  • Hello welcome to Nostalgic Ape. - Today we discuss some of my concepts for Jak II mods I would like to create (at least in theory, it'd probably be a lot of headache, but some of them do seem achievable).
    This is the first of my three videos which are celebrating Jak II's 20th Anniversary. The next video launches on the 14th (Jak II's 20th Birthday!)

    I'd like to see the levels from Daxter modded into to Jak II. Daxter gave us a new look at the City. Bars, Hotels, Subway, Fishery etc...

      Now that is an intriguing idea to say the least! Perhaps this could be possible as custom levels worked into Jak II but might require some remodeling to make the art style look like Jak II. However you've given me ideas.

    I’ve always wanted to see a mod what livens the threat of the metal head invasion towards the end of the game. They only had the three types (scorp, invisible, and ape-type) in the city, and missed the opportunity to add more dangerous varieties in the invasion;
    I saw a mod that increased the amount of KG in the city by seven-fold, I’d like to see the same for the metal heads; at the same time, increasing interactivity between the KG vs the Metal-heads. Making them more aggressive towards eachother

    • @NostalgicApe
      @NostalgicApe  9 місяців тому +2

      That would be really cool to see. From my (limited) understanding this kind of thing would probably require removing the civilians from the city for memory.
      Sorry for the late reply. It's been a swamped month.

    Im so glad that the community of gamers are getting better than the big company handling games... i mean look at the emulators preserving games or the openGOAL project doing the impossible... i wish every game will have somthing like that in the future

      I think yeah, any passionate group of fans seem to allow this to happen… and I mean as you’ve pointed out there’s a net ton of great emulators for those games that potentially didn’t get a second life or as much of one…

    The idea of using the terminals and the garage to upgrade/store vehicles is something I also really want. What if it worked like Crackdown where parking the vehicle in the garage unlocks that type/color to spawn at any time? I say that, because being limited to one might not be enough. Though there aren't many vehicle variations in Jak 2. Custom skins would help a lot, but it would still be cool nonetheless _(if someone is able to import a new model in the form of the original Zoomer, that would be amazing)._ Maybe instead of storing the vehicle, you bought them? The problem is what you'd pay with aside from skull gems.
    Upgrades would be cool, but as I said, the way you'd unlock those upgrades would require a lot in itself I think. One idea for an upgrade would allow you to switch the zoomer from it's normal mode, to the racing version you use on the track and against Errol through the city. I have no idea how feasible this kind of mod would be, or how much work it would take, but it's something I'd love to see. Well, that and bringing the cars from Jak 3 into Jak 2-- which is still a pipe dream, but I can hope.

      Yeah so there are huge limitations for the time being. But don’t think this should get in the way of any concepting. Especially some of the finer details. I.e. love your Skull Gem question… I think since Skull Gems are an unlimited resource post game it wouldn’t be game breaking to let the Skull Gems be the currency … also means that during a standard non-Hero Mode playthrough you would have to chose between Dark Upgrades and Vehicle Upgrades.

    I have so many Ideas. A bigger Haven City with more Places to visit, more vehicles, more NPC's, more Weapons. Jak 3 is gonna be even bigger with the Cars. I can't wait for full mod support.

    I have an idea for a tweak that could be implemented: civilian or ex-Crimson guard NPCs. Essentially either off-duty or retired Crimson guards (male and female) that have the guard tattoos (like Torn) and the muscular builds, except they are in civilian attire. I imagine that they could be armed with a pistol or something as well. Then, depending on a randomizer, they could during an alert either flee (albeit in a more controlled manner, potentially just run off a slight distance and then stop and look) from Jak or attack him (like the Wastelanders).
    Also, I thought about Ashelin-like Crimson guards except in the usual full-body uniform. Implementing kids in the game could also be fun.

    one of myy biggest dream of the past decade is a mod that takes the Jak 3 map and adds the islands from the first game giving the player the ability to traverse freely from the waste land to haven city and to the Original Island as well as misty island from the first game. Maybe add some custom levels tied to the new areas. that would be fire in my opinion.

    I love the idea of a prequel to Jak 2, even though Daxter is technically the prequel to it since it tells what happened to Daxter a couple years before 2. But the idea of a prequel explaining Damos being overthrown, Torn’s backstory, Krew’s alliance with the Metalheads, etc., would be amazing! Even though it isn’t canon seeing a fan theories come to life would be pretty interesting.
    I love the Jak trilogy as a whole, but also for the world of it, yet there’s so many questions that are unanswered (aside from the Jak being Mar spiel), which draws me more into it.
    How did Krew form an alliance with the Metalheads, or what is their origin (other than being an ancient enemy of the Precursors. If so, then why weren’t they in Jak 1?)? Why is Samos the only surviving Sage? If Mar founded Haven City, what happened to him? What happened to the other parts of the world over the last 500 years? I could go on but those are some of the things I’ve always questioned, since a lot of things were left unanswered or never went beyond what was written

    • @NostalgicApe

    I would love the secret KG underground base mod done by....... whoever wants to do it. And has time.
    As for the difficulty balance mods, those will be done no matter what. With Jak 2 I would simply add health and ammo crates at critical points (in the hub before mission starters). Jak 3 is actually easier, just nerf all the guns and Light Jak heal. No custom anything, just change some numbers.

    • @NostalgicApe

      I hope to work on these, at this stage I am not however.
      I think with the difficulty mods, tweakable options should be encouraged. Like your take though.

      @Mk_Otaid 10 місяців тому

      Pretty sure all kinds of concepts are thought about while the game is in pre-production and in development. It's a deadline and budget thing mostly and you gotta be clever on how much stuff you'll ultimately implement for your end product. If the process takes forever (because you wanna add ALL the cool stuff) you are simply going to run out of money.
      Your game's concepts may be relevant in the market today, but what about 1, 2 or more years from now? Where the Jak & Daxter franchise is concerned, Naughty Dog just naturally evolved out of that style of game towards the likes of Uncharted and TLOU. If management and/or direction changes in the company... maaaaybe then we'd have a chance of seeing this IP return.
      The gaming community itself though? If modding is a possibility and sky's the limit (such as it is now with OpenGOAL) - we've got all the time in the world to make up and implement new stuff.

      Once Jak 3 openGOAL is done with decompiling with the team, I would love a group of modders to completely remake the lost frontier using Jak 3’s engine too. The Plane combat and flying could reuse assets from the mission “Destroy War Factory Defences” and on foot combat and movement would be 1 to 1 of Jak 3. Keep the gun mods the same as they are in The Lost Frontier (the lobber could just be a reskin of the Plasmite RPG) but remove the gun staff and replace that as the morph gun. The modders could fix many issues of the plot, and also fix all character dialogue, for example make daxter feel like daxter being the one who always has the first word in a convo or buts into a convo to say something smartass like, or going off subject about girls or how he’s scared of doing something but doesn’t want to admit it and make Jak feel like Jak being closed off doesn’t say much but eager to fight and say something badass. They should remove the powers you get in TLF and simplify it to just dark and light Jak again or have both and coloured eco you get from vents like TPL that help with puzzles like the jet pack boost jump thingy that’s in TLF but to activate it you don’t select the ability you just press L1 + X when active with yellow eco and Dark/Light eco you get to use for combat and puzzles. Collectables are scrap, metal head skull gems and Orbs. I think if they did this The Lost Frontier would be a better game.
