    I just ordered my Sawstop 3.0 HP 230v 36” with T Glide, dust arm kit and industrial mobile base. I am keeping my Dewalt 10” contractor saw and awesome rolling base. It took me awhile to understand that a table saw is the core tool of any shop so Im killing it in the core department. Nice video sir.

      Thank you for the kind words on the show Jonny. I appreciate it. I can say with the utmost certainty that you are going to love this saw. I have been using mine steadily for ages and I have not had a single problem with it. It is a solid piece of machinery that hasn't let me down. If you have any questions along the way, please don't hesitate to ask. I'd be more than happy to help if I can. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

I've had mine for quite a while now and I absolutely love it to this day. Worth every penny as far as I am concerned.

    Hi Kenny. Just want to thank you for doing this video when you got your Saw Stop. I got mine together...finally. Took almost all day and help from my 17 year old grandson a couple of times to lift it. As you said the engineering and instructions are amazing. Still, as the Brit's say, a lot of "fiddley " stuff. It was a lot easier since I had watched your video, so I kind of knew what to do. Thanks again.

    I just purchased this saw last week! It Will be here next week. Feb 1st 2019 this saw will go up $200 I was told. I chose to pull the trigger and put the 200 bucks towards the mobile base. Can’t wait to get it. Nice video. Thanks.

    Hi Kenny, glad I watched this video.. I am in the midst of assembling my saw.. the extension wings were kicking my butt until I watched. I too am working by myself and couldn't for the life of me start the extension wing bolts. Luckily, I had a drafting chair that I use for my scroll saw. It happens to raise up just far enough to place the wings on the seat and mate to the side of the saw. Almost in business now. Thanks!

    I assembled a 3 HP PCS today, with the same base.
    I also assembled an industrial 3 HP, using the industrial
    base. That base you used, took me 1.5 hours. The
    Industrial, 15 minutes, and I installed it AFTER the
    saw was assembled. (We have a forklift at work.)
    OK, attaching and leveling out the wings. Get a dead
    blow hammer! They are $3 at Harbor Fright! I have a
    workbench at the shop, which is just at the right height,
    to put the wing in place, and slide the main body to it.
    Put in the 2 outboard bolts, then the 2 center bolts. Do
    NOT tighten them down, yet. Snug up one of the outboard
    bolts, just enough so the wing will stay in position, but you
    can "assist" it with the dead blow. Your straight edge should
    be hanging on the wall, for this step. Align the wing, front to
    back, with the main table. (Dead blow!) Align the height, at
    THAT bolt. You can get it down to less than .001, just by feel.
    Tighten THAT bolt, good and tight. Now, hit the next bolt,
    aligning it, at the table top, by feel. Tighten it down. Rinse
    and repeat. Yes, you can straighten out slight bends with
    this method. I've assembled quite a few SawStop units, and
    have NEVER seen that join perfect, without "massaging" the
    alignment.
    Once you have the rails on, (main table bolts) use your
    straight edge to adjust the angle of the wings to the
    table. You'll need to lift or lower, while tightening those
    outer (wing) bolts. Most of these, are spot on, from Taiwan.
    Sorry to get long-winded here, but I build these for a living.
    steve

    Thanks Kenny. Actually I haven't even started. The saw is still in the bed of my pickup waiting for some help to lift it off. If I can't figure it out I'll let you know.

      When I first looked at the assembly instructions, they did look a little overwhelming, but then again so does every tool's assembly instructions. Once I got into it and followed along step by step, it became apparent very quickly that it was a simple venture. All parts are clearly labeled and all hardware is also clearly labelled on a colour coded card that makes for an easy installation. If you have any issues at all, feel free to send me a message and I would be more than happy to help you if I can.

    Hi Kenny great video as usual from you. That looks like one cracking saw to do your projects on, I've seen somewhere on UA-cam someone demonstrating the stop on that saw, using his own finger!!! it obviously worked and didn't leave a mark, but it did wreck the safety feature of the saw but who cares about the damage and the cost of the repair, when it's just made sure you still had 10 fingers.
    Have some fun doing cuts on the saw Kenny I'm really jealous now, mind you I'll take your old Table Saw over my crappy Sip one any day.
    Take Care,
    Barry from England.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  9 років тому

      Barry Roberts Thanks Barry. The guy that did the video with his finger was the inventor of the product. He obviously has some serious faith in his invention. The saw is engineered to take the abuse of a sudden stop like that. The brake mechanism and the blade would be the only things ruined or damaged. The brake costs $91 and the blade cost obviously varies. If you tripped the blade due to skin contact, you can send your brake into Sawstop and they will replace it free of charge. The brake holds data that they can remove for their research and they can tell if it tripped due to contact with skin. I've been working on the saw for a couple of weeks now and it seems like a very solid and well built machine. Thanks again for dropping me a comment.

    Kenny, nice job once again on the video. You do such a good job of explaining each detail along the way. I have been thinking about upgrading my Ridgid saw to a Saw Stop, debating if I need the 3hp saw or if the 1.5hp would meet my needs, as the Ridgid has done okay for the past year. Moving the saw to my basement shop is going to be my biggest challenge, that is after paying for the saw. Any advice on the motor size? Thank you once again.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  8 років тому

      +Mike Ribelin
      Thanks for contacting me Mike. I had the same dilemma when purchasing my saw. I hemmed and hawed about the HP of the motor. My final decision was obviously the 3HP. I am hoping, that this will be the last table saw that I ever purchase and I thought, go big or go home. Although my lower HP table saw has served me well for years and I have never needed a 3HP, I really don't know how my woodworking will evolve over the coming years. If this is potentially the last saw that I will purchase, I would hate for my woodworking to evolve to the state that I require 3HP and I don't have it and therefore would be forced to purchase a new saw. Although I may not be utilizing the 3HP at the moment, it's nice to know that it is available if and when my woodworking style evolves and requires it. Better to be looking at it, then looking for it. I hope this helps.

    I'm just about to buy this Kenny so your video will help me. Thanks. I'm curious to know if you had to align the blade parallel to the slots or was it good enough straight out of the box? Did you check this with a dial indicator or combination square or didn't you bother.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  6 років тому

      Hi John, thanks for contacting me. First off, you are going to love this saw. I've had mine for quite a while and I absolutely love it and don't regret the purchase a bit. As for aligning the blade, I am a bit of a perfectionist this way and will spend hours getting a tool calibrated to do exactly what it should. I used a dial indicator and I'm pleased to say that this saw was next to perfect right out of the box. Maybe I lucked out or maybe that is the standard of their quality control but either way, after checking it, there was no adjustment necessary. I did have to adjust the stops for the 45 and 90 degree bevels of the blade but it was only a minor tweak. Congrats on the new saw and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed mine. Thanks for tuning in.

    • @WasimBarri
      @WasimBarri 6 років тому

      Kenny, mine was out .010" which according to Sawstop is just within tolerance but I wasn't happy so followed the manual and their supporting video and had it adjusted to under 0.001" in 30 minutes. In fact it was practically zero. The use of micro adjusting screws instead of using a dead blow hammer made all the difference. I adjusted the stops so I could get beyond 45 and 90 so I can use my digital cube. I never use a table saw's scale. The fence was bang on parallel to the slots. It even had a slight toe out at the end to prevent binding and kick back. Anyway you were right, a brilliant, accurate saw. I am excited!

    Great video, thanks for sharing. If I may ask, regarding adjusting the distance between the tube and rail (starting on 18:10), I get the impression that just locking the fences adjusts the distance? How do you know the tube is not too far out (away from the rail) ? The installation manual wants us to leave a 1/16" gap between the fence and the rail. I'm not sure how to do that.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  6 років тому +1

      The rail should be adjustable from front to back by loosening the mounting bolts and sliding the rail to the position that you need it to me. In order to get the 1/16" gap, you can cut a small piece of stock as a spacer and then tighten the rail in place with the fence and spacer. Then the spacer can be remove. I hope this helps.

    And now to make more zero clearance plates. :-P

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  9 років тому

      Josh Olson I like the way you think. I'm not sure if it is possible with this saw though. The one cool thing about the Sawstop, is its geometry. The factory zero clearance insert works on any angle of bevel that the blade can be tilted to. Normally, the insert requires a wider hole in the throat plate to accommodate the tilt of the blade, but that is not the case with the Sawstop. It's quite cool.

    • @JoshOlsonDev
      @JoshOlsonDev 9 років тому

      kennyearrings1 So, you piqued my interested enough to Google around about the geometry; I couldn't find anything but saw a lot of aftermarket ZC plates for SawStops. Maybe they're just trying to capitalize on uninformed customers? Video idea: show us how the geometry works. Semi-related note: SawStop makes it really hard to search for anything about their products -- damn near everything just talks about the safety mechanism! "Yes, yes, I know... but what else does the product offer!?"

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  9 років тому

      The only reason that I'm not sure if it is possible for the Sawstop, is due to the way that the zero clearance insert secures to the throat opening. There are no screws or hold downs, but rather a lever type clamps that holds it in place. I'm not sure if showing the geometry of the saw would work for a video idea because, quite simply, I don't really understand it either. All I know, is that the blade tilts to any angle, while shifting on the trunions to allow the blade to fit perfectly through a zero clearance insert at any angle. As far as what the saw offers? It is a cabinet saw. It is engineered to be a little more beefy than most because it needs to take the abuse of that brake mechanism kicking in. The forces on that must be difficult and would definitely not do well on a normal saw. The fit and finish are also something that I was impressed with. The blade tilt and blade elevation are all gas shock assisted, making it very smooth in operation and I have had several weeks to work on the saw now and it seems that their dust collection does exactly what it claims. It collects almost all of the dust. I haven't had a chance to really test the over arm collection yet as it doesn't allow itself to the type of work I am doing lately but I will be testing it out soon, you can bet on it. The fence is extremely sturdy and functions flawlessly. Bottom line, is that it is a very impressive unit thus far, but for the price, I would expect it to be. Main feature still remains as the safety system that it houses.

    • @JoshOlsonDev
      @JoshOlsonDev 9 років тому

      kennyearrings1 The aftermarket ones I saw had no moving parts (no lever type clamps); they could be fabricated with wood/MDF, albeit more work because evidently the SawStop has a lot of things to clear so it'd rest flush. So, a router with a few bits would be required. The most prolific one I see is made by Infinity Tools; it looks like people are using it for different kerf widths and dados -- not just different angles on a standard blade. So, I guess I can buy into the geometry just being cleverly designed. :-) ... Regarding what the saw offers, I was only really curious about how that ZC mechanism works but I appreciate you taking the time to inform me; always good to know what I'm missing out on -- I just got the Ridgid R4512 a month or so ago (got ~25% off w/Harbor Freight coupon and an overly eager manager). I haven't used it yet though -- been shopping around for deals for my first workshop. :-) By the way, you convinced me to get an Excalibur EX-30. That's still sitting in its box, too.
