Debussy: First Arabesque - Celtic lever harp solo
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 лип 2022
- If you'd like to try your hand at this, the sheet music is available here (go on, you know you want to - it's a lot fun to play!): tamsindearnley.co.uk/sheetmus...
I've wanted to be able to play this piece for /absolutely ages/ - I'm just such a fan of that gloriously elegant Belle Epoque sound that Debussy creates so well. (Link to sheet music below for anyone interested!).
Because of its a̶n̶n̶o̶y̶i̶n̶g̶ entirely-appropriate-and-lovely accidentals I'd always thought that it would be impossible to play on the lever harp. A lot of thought, experimentation and transposition into a more lever harp-friendly key later and I managed (finally!) to create an arrangement I was happy with.
Playing classical music on a lever harp is difficult. I am amazed at how you changed the levers without missing a single note. Way to go!
Thank you so much! It took a lot of practise, and there were a lot of times I did miss notes…! 😂
Wow Tamsin!!! I can barely play this on the piano and you make it look so easy on the harp!!!
Incredible!!
The harpist is a fairy, the music is a dream, and the performance is quite amazing! I never thought that this could be played on a lever harp. You are the greatest master of lever change, too, without doubt. I think I'll never be able to do that so smoothly. Thank you for uploading this inspirational video!
Thank you so much for watching and for your lovely words! The lever changes did take a lot of practice (and I made a lot of mistakes along the way!)😆 but I'm very pleased if you enjoyed it, thank you! 🥰
Fantastic work & brilliant result! Bravo! Debussy on lever harp: unthinkable! Thank you...
Thank you so much! It was a fun challenge... 😆
Amazing, you can play it with lever harp, thank you for sharing.
It took a bit of thinking about, but I’m glad I persevered…! Thanks so much for watching 🥰🎶✨
Amazing work ! Tricky on a celtic harp, and yet you manage to stick to the emotion ! Bravo.
Thank you so much, I"m so pleased you like it - so kind of you to say so! ☺️
Masterfully done! As beautiful as any pedal harp version I've heard!
Ahhh, so wonderful to hear, thanks so much! 😍
Wow what a magnificent interpretation dear Tamsin! All in velvet, and with absolutely incredible lever change management. Truly great art. Congratulations and thank you for this admirable listening moment 💐💐👍.

Thank you so much for such a lovely kind comment - I'm just very pleased you like it - and for a French musician to approve of my interpretation of Debussy, this makes me very happy! 🥰
@@TamsinDearnley I confirm that you are a rare artist Tamsin!! Indeed, the works of French composers are so endearing 5Satie, Ravel, Fauré etc). But beyond that, you always have a lot of respect in your arrangements and interpretations. Apart from the change in tone, but which does not upset the listening at all. Really fantastic. Congratulations again and thank you for your research which really advances the repertoire for the lever harp, I'm a fan 👍🌺.
Such graceful and fluid lever changes to achieve the impossible. Wonderful 🎶
Thanks so much, Annie! 😍
❤❤❤ this is beautiful. I never thought it could be played on a lever harp!
Thank you! It took quite a bit of figuring out (and a lot of practise!) but I’m glad I kept going…!
Pure joy ❤
Thank you! 🥰
I have never seen anyone change levers like that before. I am in awe. You are my hero! That was beautiful to hear and watch.
Thank you so much! 🥰 It took a lot of practise, but I love the piece so much I decided to persevere...! ;)
Flabbergasting! And even more so on the lever harp!! 😍
Ahhhh, thanks so much - coming from you this means a lot!
OMG!!! Genious!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Thank you so much! 🥰🎶✨
Wow, Tamsin, absolutely breathtaking. You are taking us into a dream.
This is the most soulful, gentle, closest to Debussy version of this piece I ever heard on any harp.
Oh, thank you so much! I am very honoured by these lovely words coming from you!! ❤️ 🎶✨🙏
Adding another comment because I'm so in awe! You met your challenge of playing this piece on lever harp - fantastic outcome. 🌠🌠🌠🌞🌞🌞🌠🌠🌠

Stunningly well played Tamsin, I'm in awe of your lever changes! I adore this piece and as we share the same Eos harp, I feel I should at least attempt it, having heard you make it sound so beautiful. Thank you! :)

Ahhh, thanks so much! Is there something in particular you're looking for that you can't find? I'm always looking for fun new challenges...!😆 It's a real mental challenge to arrange thing sometimes, but super satisfying when something eventually works...! 🤩
@@TamsinDearnleyhmm one I’ve been trying to find a good arrangement for is clair de lune? just a suggestion if you’re looking for inspiration!
@@TamsinDearnley hahah no worries! thanks for linking that version, i’ll have a listen 😊
@@lilylina11 Ahhh, I've had that one on my list for ages, though I have to admit I'm not sure when I'll get round to it...!
But I'm not sure I need to - do you know this gorgeous version by Anne Crosby Gaudet? ua-cam.com/video/3VjgLer8uGg/v-deo.html
sounds great and looks like a lot of work to me (meaning i would not go near it at this point in time ). Great work on your part 🙏🏼🌹
Haha, it was a lot of work but I also enjoyed it ;) (i'm not so much of a masochist to put a lot of work into a piece I can't stand! 😆).. thanks so much for watching, very pleased you liked it! 🙂
🙏😊👍
Dear Tasmin, thanks for this! I also tried on the lever harp as this Is One of my fav Pieces, yet got discouraged. Perhaps your sheets music Will help this time!!!
Oh, I do hope so - it is a beautiful piece, isn't it! Good luck - do feel free to share videos of how you get on, I'd love to see! :D
Hi, what kind of harp is this? You play beautifully.
Thank you so much! 🥰 This is a Teifi Eos model with 36 strings :)
hey i love this piece but i was wondering how you began putting together triplets over eighth notes (bar 6 etc) ?
Thank you so much for watching! I just made sure to play it really slowly until I had the two parts properly in sync against each other.
I find it helpful to practise short sets of 2 against 3 and 3 against 2 polyrhythms first to make sure that my brain is warmed up before going for the full bar.
This video I think is really helpful: ua-cam.com/video/0Y_cXA-Uglc/v-deo.html :)
Do you use bow brand strings?
This is so beautiful Tamsin! I don’t suppose you’re back in Edinburgh and offering lessons again..? Hug x
Thank you! i'm afraid i'm not in Edinburgh any more, but I do do online lessons if you're interested - you can always email me at tamsindearnly@gmail.com if you need! Hope you're well! ☺️
