      Whoever invented the piano must have had a harp first then rigged it up flat with keys to push and cause hammers to strike.

    I have only heard this piece played once by a harp at a high-priced restaurant in Grand Cayman when I was a relatively young man. I thought it was stunningly beautiful and would have requested that the harper come to our table, but I really did not know an appropriate amount to tip.

    This is an original translation of Verlaine's poem, from French to English. I opted for eight syllables of iambic tetrameter, and (like Verlaine), I gave it an ABAB rhyme scheme. Thematically, and in imagery, it's pretty close to the original. If you look closely, you'll see a tribute to Coleridge. Enjoy!
    MOONLIGHT
    Your sacred soul a chosen land,
    Of music, masquerade, and dance.
    They play the lute, and kiss the hand --
    With saddened hearts, they seek romance.
    A minor key unlocks a song,
    Of love and life and lonely eyes.
    The music whispers loud and long,
    Of weeping moon and paradise.
    The moon is sad and bright and clear,
    And sings the nightingale to sleep.
    The fountains cry with joyful tears,
    While sleeping marble statues weep.

    I am always a bit biased when it comes to hearing Heloise play the harp. Not only is her playing exquisite but all the music she plays is perfectly suited to the harp. Whenever I listen to Heloise I completely in her thrall. To see her delicate fingers caressing the strings to produce magical sounds. I also think that debussy had the harp in mind when he wrote claire de lune. Thank you Heloise for your beautiful playing.

    • @iancollins407
      @iancollins407 4 роки тому +6

      Brian Gibbs What makes you think Debussy had the harp in mind? Not saying it doesn’t fit the harp, it certainly feels very natural, but as I’m sure you know it is written for the piano. Don’t you think that if he had the harp in mind he would have just written for harp?

    • @briang.4249
      @briang.4249 4 роки тому +7

      @@iancollins407 yes I am aware that Debussy wrote this for piano, Mr. Collins. For starters Claire de Lune is a beautiful and delicate piece, hence me saying that the music lends itself to the harp. There are also examples of classical music crossing over to modern music. As example take Vivaldi's 4 seasons, predominantly written for the violin. Now go one step further, there is a young lady in France called Tina S. Her instrument is the electric guitar. She is what I would call a modern virtuoso playing guitar. My favourite composer is Vivaldi so when I came across Tina on UA-cam, I thought that it would be sacrilegious for her to play Vivaldi's 4 seasons. How wrong I was. That young lady blew me away with her amazing talent.

    Perhaps THE most beautiful pieces of music ever put to paper. And played masterfully by Miss Héloïse, so lovely. I honestly sat here thinking [oddly] that if we as a species were/are ever visited by "aliens", we need simply to play this for them to plead our case that we are capable of such beauty, enough to mercifully overlook our glaring faults.

    I discovered this channel a few months ago when listening to clair de lune and then having as a suggestion your video of deux arabesque, since then I have followed your latest videos and admired this type of music more, but seeing this now, is just wow... thanks for your harp. Greetings from Peru and stay safe.

    I think Debussy would be moved to rear the renditions of his music that you've done. He's one of my favorite composers and honestly I hadn't heard many of his compositions on harp until I came across your channel. I think your work is the perfect expression of his music and you should be proud of yourself for bringing this dimension to it.

    I love watching the bass strings vibrate long after the note is played. It resonates. That is the difference between a stringed instrument (piano) and an electronic piano. Played with absolute grace.

    • @BirdYoumans
      @BirdYoumans 2 роки тому

      @@Music-pc2we Oh my. I don't think I could name just one. Beethoven's Egmont, and his 5th would be up there as a great example of theme and variation, Mozart has several I love Including Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and symphony 40, Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake and Serenade for strings, Stravinsky's Firebird and Rite of Spring, Any Debussy of course is hard to beat. Mendelssohn's Italian symphony. I'd hate to have to pick just one.
