O Christmas Tree - Easy harp solo arr. Tamsin Dearnley
Get the sheet music here: tamsindearnley.co.uk/sheetmusic/?id=o-christmas-tree
(There is also an intermediate-level solo available for more confident players, which you can see on UA-cam here: ua-cam.com/video/uW9QtklJqcI/v-deo.html!)
This lovely German folk song was not originally associated with Christmas as it predates the tradition (popularised in the 19th century) of decorating fir trees for the festive season.
The first known lyrics used the symbolism of the evergreen fir to represent a faithful lover. As the custom of decorating trees spread in popularity, new lyrics were written and the song began to be associated with Christmas. It is now a popular seasonal favourite!

Christmas Carol Medley on the Harp - Tamsin Dearnley
Переглядів 1,3 тис.21 день тому
Ok, so who doesn't (even secretly) love a fun, feel-good Christmas medley?! This arrangement strings together a number of my favourite traditional carols into a lively, up-tempo concert piece. I had a LOT of fun arranging this - it's amazing how many carols will fit to the same left hand riff...! 🎄✨🤩 Carols (and quotes/ allusions) include: 00:06 (and throughout!) - Britten's 'Ceremony of Carols...

Sheet music available here: tamsindearnley.co.uk/sheetmusic/?id=god-rest-you-merry-gentlemen The origin of the melody we now associate with this old English carol is unclear. The earliest published version of it appeared in the early 19th century, entitled 'The Christmas Carol, Varied as a Rondo, for the Piano Forte' by Samuel Wesley (son of Charles Wesley, the famous Methodist minister). It is...

This exquisite carol can be traced back as far as the early 1400s, and may well be older still. It was popular throughout Europe during the Middle Ages and has lost none of its beauty since. Get the sheet music here: tamsindearnley.co.uk/sheetmusic/?id=in-dulci-jubilo The title means 'In Sweet Rejoicing', which is a very fitting title for such a joyful tune! Get the sheet music here! tamsindearnley.co.uk/sheetmusic/?id=lazy-day-waltz If there was ever a piece inspired by a perfect English Summer's day, this is it! A gentle lilting waltz that brings to mind garden parties, warm sunshine - and of course, afternoon tea...! Filmed in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside on one of those hot, still, slightly muggy days that tells you a storm is near (and ...
Amazing Grace - Celtic Lever Harp solo (sheet music available!)
Переглядів 1,2 тис.7 місяців тому
I have resisted arranging this tune for such a long time, mostly this is because there are already so many beautiful harp versions out there! I've also never been able to decide the best way to present this well-loved but very well-known melody - can I really add anything to it? Does it NEED re-arranging yet again? It still changes a lot when I play it, and I'm sure the arrangement will continu...
Celtic harp solo - Danny Boy ('Londonderry Air')
Переглядів 2,8 тис.11 місяців тому
This beautiful air from County Londonderry was first written down in 1855 after being collected by folk music historian Jane Ross (1810-1879). It became popularly known as 'Danny Boy' after Frederic Edward Weatherly's 1910 poem of this name was set to the tune in 1913. I have resisted making an arrangement of this much-loved tune for a long time as there are already so many beautiful versions o...

Now most commonly referred to as 'Ye banks and Braes (o' Bonny Doon)' after a line from the poem Robert Burns set to this tune, this lilting melody's original title is 'The Caledonian Hunt's Delight'. I have known this piece for many, many years, but only recently thought about committing an arrangement to paper. Sheet music available for purchase here: tamsindearnley.co.uk/sheetmusic/?id=ye-ba...
Jingle Bells - jazz Celtic lever harp solo (sheet music available!)

I always said I'd never do an arrangement of Jingle Bells - not because I don't like it, but because there are already so many great arrangements already out there. HOWEVER, I can't resist a good, fun, slightly cheesy Christmas solo (Santa hat - check; gently falling snow - check; CHRISTMAS SPARKLES - double check!!), so here is my take on this Christmas classic! Sheet music can be found here: ...
Huron Carol - beautiful easy Celtic lever harp solo (sheet music available!)
Переглядів 2,4 тис.Рік тому
This delightful carol was written by Jesuit missionary Jean de Brébeuf in 1642 whilst living at Sainte-Marie-au-pays-des-Hurons, a French Jesuit settlement near modern-day Midland, Ontario. The melody is (pretty loosely!) based on an old French melody 'Une jeune Pucelle' (A young Maid - you can listen to this here: ua-cam.com/video/IzkQVb9zXaY/v-deo.html if you're interested in the comparison)....

山の向こうへ続く道 - Joe Hisaishi-style original composition for harp
Переглядів 658Рік тому
A lot of harp players (myself included!) LOVE the gorgeous work of Joe Hisaishi, who composed much of the music for former Studio Ghibli Director Hayao Miyazaki's beautiful animated films. He just has a magical way of capturing a feeling that is so hard to express in words - both nostalgic and exciting; sad and happy; cosy and yet mysterious all at the same time...! However, partly because of t...

Beautgful! You are still my harp teacher🥰 I keep playing the lever harp and enjoying it❣️ Wishing you and your family Merrry Chrisgmas🌲☃️
Nice! Merry Christmas, Tamsin!♥️🌲🎼🎵🎶
Thank you, Tamsin! May your Christmas be merry and bright!❤️🌲🎼🎵🎶
Thanks for putting together the Christmas playlist! :)
Sweet and pretty! Seems like it would be relatively fast to learn for those of us that haven't pulled out the xmas music yet!!😱 Thanks. Have a lovely holiday season.
Oh, how festive! I had a super fun Christmas medley a few years ago that I started to work on (I knew it would take quite a while bc it was a harder level), but then had to sell my pedal harp. This one seems like a fun, more playable, version for the lever harp, and I look forward to starting to practice it. Thanks, Tamsin!
You do things with so much heart and goodness. The songs you choose, the way you arrange and play them, and your thoughtful words and descriptions to each song you post. I think these are the reasons I look to use for inspiration as I strive to create good music. Thank you again!
Gorgeous! 🎄
I need another harp player for this duet. ;)
This one is really cool sounding. I have a ring light - love the way you use that in the video. :) I need some fancy microphones to record harp music. LOL.
Muy hermosa su interpretación, bella melodía, bendiciones infinitas para usted y sus seres amados 🙏♾️
Tamsin, this was really beautiful. Happy music for Christmas. It was a joy to listen to it. ❤
A joy in every way - thank you!
Gorgeous as always. And very interesting to read about the harps and mics you used. Thank you.
This has been ringing though my mind and humming through my heart morning, noon and night since the festival!
Beautiful, this is my favourite piece to practice at the moment ❤
Oh, I'm so happy to hear that - I hope it's going well! Feel free to let me know how you're finding it if you have a moment (which bits you think work best/bits that you find awkward, if any/etc) - always useful to know how these things are for other people to play! And, of course, I'm always delighted to watch if you ever fancy sharing your work...! ;)
How absolutely wonderful! Thank you, Tamsin! ☃🎄🎶
Thank you so much for watching, Nadia! 🥰❤️✨
Beautiful and festive, thanks so much for this one! ❤
Thank you so much, Ralf - I'm so pleased you enjoyed my it! 🥰😍🎶
That was fun, bright and lovely. You had me confused with the harp. It didn't look like yours yet it had the Tamsin sound! Have a wonderful vacation and time with the baby. Thanks for getting this out to us. It was worth all the work!💜💕💜
Thank you so much! And haha, yes, I hope it doesn't feel too much like cheating, but it was fun to do!🤩 (Also, that'll teach me not to try rush these things in future - and to double check my settings before hitting 'record'...! 😆)
What a wonderful medley! And so sensitively and beautifully played. I love the arrangement of the carols and the transitions and the ending. 😊
Thank you so much - I love all these carols! I didn't exactly sit down to write a medley, but I was just being silly and seeing how many carols I could fit to the same left hand pattern - and my husband kept looking up and smiling and saying 'oh, that's really fun!' so I got it into better shape and wrote it down. It is fun to play, if I do say so myself! 🎄🤩
nice
Thank you! 🥰
Lovely! The 'Joy to the World' closing is great! Also the Sussex Carol.
Ahhh, thank you! I couldn’t resist a little reprise there - glad you enjoyed it! 🥰✨🎄
Magnifique !Thank you very much I love it ❤ Can I ask which microphone do you use?
Thank you! And yes, of course- this was recorded with a matched pair of Rode NT5s. I’m pretty sure I had them just in a standard XY position, about 60cm ish to the right hand side of the harp (as close as I could get them without them getting in the way). There is a small amount of EQ and reverb added, just to clean it up and make up for the very dead room I used. Just for clarity, this wasn’t actually recorded on the harp you see here, I’m afraid - please see the description for the story…! 😆
@TamsinDearnley Thank you very much for the details!!
You’re very welcome, I hope it was useful! 😊
Love it!
Thank you! 🥰
Ooohhh I just love this ❤😍. Well done Tamsin!
Thank you so much! 🤩🎄🎶
Joyous! Thanks Tamsin!
Thank you - joyous was what I was going for, so yay! 🥰✨🎶🎄
Beautiful thank you! Wishing you and your family a very merry Christmas 🎄🕯️
Thank you, and the same to you! 😍

Dear Tamsin, A very beautiful medley as Christmas approaches. Bravo for this beautiful interpretation which offers a moment of dream and magic. Musically, Phil 🎶✨🎄
Dear Phil, Thank you so much for watching - I’m very happy that you enjoyed it! 🤩✨🎶
So beautiful!
Thank you so much! 🤩
Thank you for sharing this video. The music and your interpretation are certainly superb, and they are supported by your class and elegance. I love all your musical choices and you offer me a great, very inspiring example. I express all my admiration for what you show of you. Thanks and Bravo
That is so lovely of you to say, thank you so much! I’m just very happy that you enjoyed the video and the music! 🥰🎶✨❤️
I absolutely love this arrangement, but I was daunted by all the lever changes... Then I found out that you have an easier version available without the lever changes! Surprisingly, it sounds very similar to this version although obviously some of the notes are simplified. I'm playing the easier version this Christmas and planning to go for the full lever version next year! 🥰
Heeeee, I’m so glad you found the non-lever change version - I wanted to make sure this piece was as accessible as possible even for those still working on their lever confidence, so woohoo! 🤩🎶✨ you’ll have them down by next year, I’m sure of it - good luck! 😍
@TamsinDearnley thank you so much! I love your arrangements, they're so special!
@@TamsinDearnleyI uploaded a video of me playing the easier arrangement today, it's not perfect but I'm feeling more and more confident playing it for others. The part with the walking bass is so much fun to play! 😊
Super.
Very nice arrangement
Lovely
Sparkly, clear and bright. Thank you for this lovely piece. The intro sounded to me like bells.
Thanks for sharing your great talent
Beautiful carol, beautiful harp and beautiful harper! 🎶🥰🎵🎶
I am with you forever more after this beauty…Thank you ….
My soul belongs you .
That's pretty.
So beautiful ❤. Is the Ravenna a big harp. I’m planning to get it.
What is the range for this melody?
Awestruck
This is so beauriful, Tamsin!!! I know the tune from long ago, sung by Joan Baez (I think you weren’t even born then, haha). But this version is superb!
It's lovely when a video just drops into your homepage on UA-cam and is not only beautiful and in time for learning for Christmas, but also at my current level to cope with playing by ear. Just when I thought I'd watched all your content too... magic! 🪄☺
Ahh, thank you! This is one of my all-time favourite Christmas melodies, so I'm happy you found it! 🤩
@@TamsinDearnley Even though I'm slowly learning this by ear, I've also purchased the sheet music, to say thank you for the time in producing an easy version and with the vague hope that once the tune is locked in my head, I can start to slowly deduce the squiggles on the page?! Glass half full... 😉😂
This is the Ukrainian melody . 💙💛
