    You can find plenty of demos of the sounds online, but not so much talk about the features. Which is why we did it like this. In fact there's a 53 video playlist of integera sounds to my right as I type. You should be able to find what you are looking for there.

    After 18 years I still use my old JV1080, buying an Integra, you really can`t go wrong. You can get some allround sound software like Steinberg Halion. That will do aswell. It`s just easy to have 1 sound source for your quick mockups and in this case, you prabably can use alot of sounds for the actual finished product. And no, the orchestral sounds can`t compete with high end software libraries if you seek realism. No synth can. It`s just great to have a VAST library of all types of instruments. Thats why you buy a machine like this..

    Thanks for this Nick! Brilliant! Having never had access to the older Roland modules & SRX cards this would be a Godsend! Everything in one place, with iPad and VST integration - Wonderful! Gareth did a great job of demonstration the sounds - very impressive and high quality IMHO!
    This is the 1st Roland product I have been excited about since they killed the VS2000CD 6months after I bought mine! Time to start saving my pennies!

    On the other hand I have a Roland JD 800 and a JP 8080 that work the same today as they did back in the 90's. Both units are covered with knobs and slider and do not need any type of computer to assist with programming. The Roland Fantom G has a built in screen so I love that unit. These are what I call stand alone synths, they never need a computer to keep them going for years and years and years. I will have to see if the Integra 7 is easy to program from the front panel before I purchase.

    As background information. You now can have a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) with a 8 channel interface and then have a mix wich has a 5.1 and a stereo output all in one workspace. And this will allow you to switch between stereo and 5.1 on the fly. So working in a "space" is now possible. So this synthesizer gives you 'per voice' the possibility to give it a place in the surround stage. But allso give you the possibility to move the channel within this space. And it is an all in one solution.

    My best example of this, comes from Korg. I used to have a MicroSampler, which is solely reliant on its software-editor to move or backup its sounds. Where as other samplers have SD or CF type cards, tapes, floppy discs etc, depending on their age.
    From October 2010 to May 2011, any1 with an updated Mac, and a lot of people with updated windows (though this was more intermittent), didn't have a functioning USB-driver for Korg products, rendering a lot of necessary editors unfunctional.

    Cool video. So, question. Can you use this as a sound module and audio interface simultaneously?!

  • @MarctheDarc
    @MarctheDarc 12 років тому

    Regardless of your feelings towards the Gaia. This module is indeed a hybrid. All the SRX sounds are PCM waves sent through subtractive synthesis engine, like many romplers of the past 20 odd years, which is also their natural origin. And this will also be true for quite a few of the other sounds.
    SuperNatural sounds however, are made using advanced modelling of all mechanical and electric parts that make up the instrument it's mimicking, and each is individually tweakable. Check V-Piano specs.

    • @xp50player
      @xp50player 6 років тому

      Marc the Darc - no v-piano sounds in this. The first lesser product to have that technology is the RD-2000. It is a separate engine from Supernatural, with its own polyphony in that unit.

    They actually developed a technology in the early 90's (roland did) that uses some kind of phasing or acoustical phenomena to simulate sounds out of the speakers. The units that did it were really expensive. NIN used em here and there. You only really hear it in a proper monitoring situation (two speakers, not phones etc. It does work though. Whether or not Roland uses that same tech in the integra, I'm not 100% sure

    Are there any videos anywhere (I’ve looked on UA-cam) of how you layer 3 or 4 sounds together on an Integra ? Then how do you save the layer once you’ve created it? Say I had a gig with my band and I wanted to create layered sounds for 16 or 17 songs, and also just use single sounds… is there like a LIVE SET mode where I can access these? Do I have to use an iPad or computer because I don’t want to do that really, I’d like to do it on the Integra itself..

    I must confess to be on mattsynths side in this. It's become commonplace to have direct usability replaced with computer-integration and plugin-editors, which will all eventually fall prey to lack of support while computersystems are updated.
    So many current synths are more or less useless without an editor (save for their presets), 5 or 10 years into the future you'll be forced to maintain an old computer seperate of your main rig, only to edit your synths from this era.

    The Gaias main synth engine doesn't use sampled waveforms. That's only the 15-part GM engine which is hidden inside.
    Feel free to actually look closer at their list of specs, and you will notice that the "Sound Generator Section" bit you're refering to has 2 clearly seperated sets of specs, accounting for the main part (which is true DSP VA) and 15 GM parts respectively.
    The heart of all SuperNatural sounds has always been several types of DSP-based advanced modelling. But expect both in this.

So, if you can only load four of the cards, you cannot use ANY sound from ANY card in a 16 part multitimbral setup. The Apple iPad is changing so rapidly these days I know Roland will not be able to keep up with it and then there is that constant upgrading issue. It seems like a workhorse, but complicated. It is just so much simpler to click on a vsti, vs. a hardware module.
    I really think they could've made this all vsti, but they would have a hard time justifying more than $250 price tag for a vsti.

      you can't compare a vst with a physical sound module. Hardware is where you find character. It's like mixing itb vs an ssl big board. The second will give you a texture produced by eletrical alteration that the first can't produce. Plus your vst will be obsolete in five years maximum not this hardware module it's a legacy module with new sounds and consistency in the editing with better midi timing than any vst.

      Sadly, the iPad app is no longer. Roland couldn't be bothered to support it when Apple apps went from 32-bit to 64-bit some years back. This frustrated me when I purchased the Jupiter 80 for a second time and had some time prior deleted the app from my iPad 2. You can find the original app file online and load it into an iPad, but it will not register with Apple, so the software is bricked. A great shame, because the app's GUI was way better than using the synth display.

    Even though Roland quotes " plus all 12 titles from the SRX Expansion libraries" there were really 15 SRX expansion libraries. SRX-97, SRX-98, and SRX-99 were left out of this unit. Shame really, would have been nice to have the complete set of sounds from the set.

    Why not make a 3u module with a slide out/flip over touch screen - no need for iPad then....

    Very cool and would be great to have all that power and more sounds plus drum kits of all
    types to use with my Jupiter 80.
    Since its midi I guess you could use it with the Kronos aswell, not sure if all the feature of the supernatural could be used. You can use it with just a midi controller keyboard Roland makes a nice one to go with it looks like. I would use it with my Jupiter 80.
    Wow this is coooool stuff Thanks for nice demo. I will have to order me up one.

    This module is great but i cannot understand why they did not make ALL sounds from ALL cards available simultaneously. Having only four memory slots simply means that you are not free to use ANY combination of its many gorgeous sounds at once (16 parts, remember?) - it's 2012 for God's sake, memory is cheap and this is marketed as a high-end module.

      synthlab they probably could have but by only allowing 4 at a time makes you think you have options

    I wish roland could build a module with V-Synth GT engine (instead JP-80 engine) and 12 "real" (simultaneous) SRX cards with D-50 Structures & JD-990 Effects engine! With lots of user editing area (because most of roland sounds does not sound right) Then me (and others) would call that module as an "ultimate" instrument...

    Can you please tell me exactly WHICH SRX boards are on the Integra 7? It just says 'the popular SRX boards". Does that mean that the SRX boards are popular, (and ALL of them are included) or does it mean that only the MOST popular SRX boards are included?

    This video is confusing me. Moral of the story, never ask a product rep about a music product, they are incapable of giving straight answers.
