it's the playing that makes this board even more beautiful with 30 ossilators very impressive with this I will have the. Roland g6 I have the brass board and electric piano, cards in it and the Roland Vsynth keyboard as well Roland king of the keyboards very Roland love the genius you do keep it up.
Haha .. I actually bought mine for the solid metal chassis build and 76 note semi weighted keybed, I’ve only actually used it’s sounds a couple times in all these years .. not that they’re bad .. just I’m a Kontakt and samples guy. The Jupiter 80 as old as it’s getting is still a wonderful master midi keyboard for a DAW/studio rig, wish Roland would bring back their A80/A50 controller boards (or Yamaha with their KX76/88) Modern midi controllers suck compared to what we had in the 80/90’s 🥺
WITH THIS SYNTHESIZER MUSICAL WILL ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES, WHO IS CREATIVE, YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THIS EQUIPMENT IS SENSATIONAL, MAGNIFICENT, GIVE TO PRODUCE ALL KINDS OF STYLES ... HAVE TO LEARN TO USE !!!!! LIKED MORE ....
Thank you again, Mr. Katsunori UJIIE!! If this synth had another name it would be an instant classic without baggage. The sound is extraordinary and it is so capable a instrument. IMHO this can stand up to the Motif's, Kronos, Virus and Nords. I will add it to my studio, perhaps replacing the Virus TI. Forget about the underlying technology - does it sound like a quality instrument….certainly it does. One of the top 2 or 3 available today. Thanks again for showcasing all the new instruments. You do a service to all keyboard players out there in the world. Cheers!, Sam.
Stellar playing! The best player for any demo for synths I’ve ever heard. All the features that he highlights are relevant. That synth absolutely kills.
People are such idiots in general, especially with this new analogue fad nowadays. Claiming this sounds bad is just completely ridiculous. This is one the best sounding synths ever made. People hear more with their heads instead of their ears.
I have no problem with the sound of this instrument, and the build quality is also superb. I'd be more happy though if they removed that touchscreen LCD. I must admit that having touch screen knobs for editing on a physical instrument is a bit ridiculous. To me D-50 and JD-800 were perfect keyboard instruments in every way. I wish they would still offer D-50 and JD-800 brand new. As well as the A-80/A-50 controllers. Since Fender still makes Stratocasters with single coil pickups, I don't see a reason why Roland shouldn't still make the D-50. I understand that Roland has the "look forward ONLY" paradigm, on the other hand it is undeniable that they made some classic instruments, which I think it would be nice to still have available. I'd happily pay $1,900 for a brand new D-50 and $2,900 for a brand new JD-800, because these are my favorite Roland instruments. Unfortunately that's impossible, so I have to go on eBay and wait long years to come across a unit in good condition.
You are correct the analog fad is boring me. I used to find analog interesting but the sameness got old and I went back to modern digital sampler synths like my Yamaha Motif and find the sound creation is much more versatile and rewarding.
Agreed. Yamaha Motif series have fantastic oscillators and filters, and very deep programming parameter list. I make do with SY77/SY99 which are FM/sample-playback hybrid synthesizers. I really like those early digital synthesizers, I am not sure why people frown at those so much. That's only good news to me though, 'cause since all the frowning makes the demand low, I can find some instruments on eBay in great shape and with very reasonable prices. What's not to like about that?
***** True, but it doesn't really matter, Of course nothing will ever sound like the real JP-8, but, the JP-80 sounds great in its own way. People hate it because they're too stingy to shell out $3,500.
Roland has one in the form of the eurorack unit with 5 modules and case for $2,000. But I think it's made by some bearded guy with some weird holes in his ears. Not sure how much Roland is involved in this.
+Beatles Eternally My favorite type of screen on a synthesizer is 2x40 characters LCD like on the DX7II, D-50, M1, V50, XV-88, etc. I can deal with 60x240 dot LCD like on the A-80, S-770, SY77, or SY99 as well. But screen on the QY700 starts look a little bit pre-school with those icons and all. This is where I draw the line. So, I chose the Integra-7 as my choice if Roland synthesizer. And no, I am not planning on using iPad with it. iPad is good for Facebook or UA-cam, but for music I prefer dedicated gear.
+Beatles Eternally XV-88 is good, and frankly it looks more like Jupiter than the JP-80 (my opinion). But lately I prefer playing the A-80 connectied to Integra-7. Unfortunately, Integra-7 is most likely more software than hardware, but at least it doesn't look like a device a millennial uses to go on Facebook with.
I agree. A fantastic synth in the hands of incredible talent, and a wonderful showcase of the Jupiter-80. You have convinced me that I need one of these.
Agradeço-lhe honrado homem! Por anos que tenho visto os seus vídeos, fiz sábias escolhas antes e depois de ter visto seus vídeos, agradeço a sua dedicação e paixão pela música!
I have cheap logitech speakers with a small sub woofer yet this synth still sounds amazing. I'm not a Roland fan but in the right hands this synth could really shine. I love how bright it sounds too. This demo proves that all the negative comments were made by idiots just trying to be smart (asses).
There are already lot of synth sound inside 2.10 OS. There are already 2 free presets banks for the Jupiter 80 from Roland, full of synths livesets in every style you need... And the Tone Blender is so powerful you never get tired of this real time "morph" function. The only thing this synth need is more demo like this one.
The JP-80 has received lots of negative comments, but it is a very capable synth. As always, it's how you play or use a synth for music that counts. Another excellent demo Ujiie-san.
Roland introduced some excellent new analog sounds for the Jupiter 80 with free sound packs. And I like having the acoustic sounds available to add to live sets and registrations. Great demo!
Unlike the Kronos, this is not a workstation. So the comparison is unfair considering the same size Kronos is slightly more expensive. But impressive nevertheless. What it is: is 30 single oscillators synths for stage. Plus an "idiomatic" MIDI module. Not even Roland('s presets) have explored the depths of the types of sound one could create with it.
We can get most of the Jupiter 80 sounds in the cheaper FA series workstations now. If I recall correctly all the synth type sounds are in the FA but not all the acoustic ones are like brass and solo strings.
The only thing that spoils this beautiful instrument is the USB door. The original Roland ROM and RAM cards were so much better. But other than that, it's an amazing machine. 6 octave keyboard with velocity and aftertouch, all metal construction, very well made knobs and sliders, what's not to like? I am happy that Roland still makes the finest instruments around like the V-Piano, V-Drums, V-Accordion, RD-700nx, Integra-7, and of course the Jupiter-80.
30 years later and the original analog Jupiter 8 still sells for over 3K... 30 years from now i doubt this digital Jupiter 80 will sell for over 1K... if Roland continues to ignores the constant public demand for its analog history, it will be history.
Cool video ans cool sounds you get from the Jupiter 80. I think the Jupiter 80 and a Kronos X would be cool together along with a V-synth GT for voice effects.
That is just the problem - Jupiter 80 does not do synthesizer sounds very well. Most of the Supernatural sounds can be found on the V-synth GT. I am having a hard time getting the JP 80 sounds to sound good in a mix. It is true that some sounds need to stand out but these do not sound beneficial in the overall scheme. Also, the arpeggios are lame compared to the Kronos or the Motif. Roland should really work on that aspect.
Yes, it matters how you play. At least for the audience. But for the user/player, this keyboard like most recent Roland keyboards are often a nightmare because of ridiculous limitations put there from engineers who hardly have a clue what matters for a live performing keyboard player. For example, aftertouch is hardwired to filter in the SN synth tone. How many digital keyboards do you know with such crazy limitations? And that's just the beginning...
Yes and no. All of the raw tones in a Jupiter are available on the Integra, but you can't layer patches on the Integra like you can on the Jupiter. So it ends up sounding very different.
The only real issue with this keyboard seems to be the name, because it suggests comparisons of things that shouldn't be compared. And that seems to annoy people who like the paradigm of classic synthesis, myself included. I'm sure there's a market for a well-specified rompler such as this one, that is a good gigging all-rounder but also comes packed with a bunch of retro-ish presets and a retro-ish look. If I had a band that played something like Final Countdown on stage, I'd be in the market for such a device. Do patches sound cheesier than their original counterparts? Probably. But it has ALL of them, and then some. And in a live setting, the difference is rarely worth carrying seven keyboards instead of one.
Is the same thing possible to be done in the FA-06 with how he showed about the upper and lower parts of how massive that sound can be made? I have a roland fa 06 and I want my sounds to be fat and lush like that. They already are huge but im jus trying to see if they can have the same power as the jupiter 80
This is synth is exactly what Vangelis call, the Direct Composing Approach, it's just a layers of gorgeous rompler, sound like the classical Roland D-50, the error is to call that a Jupiter series, because he have nothing to do with the original analog gear. good powerhouse synth for live but not so impressive.
This is not a rompler for sure. You are hearing a compressed audio from youtube. If you hear it with good monitoring headphones direct from Jupiter 80 what you hear are crystal clear synth sounds full range from keyboard! There are some PCM sounds inside it , but don't be fooled, this is not a rompler. You can have up to 30 (yes, 30!) crystal clear synth oscillators at the same time.
you know at this complexity it's like using all the osc of a DX7 it's gas work, shoud we need that ? it can make also phase problem issue between the OSC, i experiment a lot with additive synth or FM synth and it's almost gaz work with less than 5 layers of sound.
Meteotrance No one is forced to use all oscillators at the same time, we all know that. Yet someone could create splits of multilayer sounds or even complex evolve sounds. It's overkill? Could be. It's a matter of personal taste and imagination. The point is, this is not a rompler as you said.
D-50 is not just a PCM player. It's a hybrid. It has square wave generator with variable pulse width (sawtooth is obtained at filter stage). The PCM section is just 76 samples sprinkled over a well featured subtractive synthesizer with ring modulator, 3 LFO's, low pass resonant filter, flexible envelopes, as well as parametric EQ, chorus, reverb, end delay. It's really a very good synthesizer the D-50. And even if you use samples as attacks or some spectral waves, they are not multisamples, so you won't get any annoying sample split points. It's all very smooth. I am a big fan of the D-50.
Have you played the Roland boutique jupiter? I know It's analog modeling but does it get close enough that you can't tell in mix? I move already spent a fortune on analog gear but I'd love to get that jupiter sound from time to time without forking over thousands of dollar.
Man analog is over rated it's a trend for people that aren't really musicians. Guys in the 80's used analogue because that's all the technology they had. Modern Analog synths are far superior. Only reason to get a JP8 is for the nostalgic sounds until you realize it's a 30 yo keyboard with the limitations of 30 years ago. The Botique is a beast but it's only 4 notes of Poly you have to chain 2 of them together to make it 8 notes. It still sounds good and like a jupiter. The King of analogs is the Arturia Matrixbrute and as much as the gear snobs want to talk about the JP8 and no analogue this Matrixbrute never even comes out their mouth and that surpasses anythign a Jupiter 8 could ever do.
@@187onasimp You seem to know absolutely nothing about music or synths why offer an opinion at all. Its not a competition there are no best or winners an ARP 2600 isnt better than a Model D and a Matrix Brute is not better than a JP 8. If you think it is then you have missed the whole point of everything
@@rossconran2333 Every synthesizer is tied up with a load of great sounds, but the ones I like more are the synths from Roland, Yamaha, Korg, Nord, Alesis and many others. No matter if It will sound either like the 80s, 90s, 2000s or nowadays, like... you know, modern music, but as a professional musician and composer, I consider myself that REALISM is not just the music, but yes, the fatness and brightness of the sounds that people never created in the real world, ever. And remember, not all synthesizers are able to create realistic sounding musical instruments, but yes, very good pads, pianos, strings, brasses and synth brasses. Keyboards and music softwares creates more of this realism with more functions and performances than any synthesizer.
These are very expensive now. There's one on eBay, brand new, for $10,000. I should've bought one when they were new for $2,500. Yes, they cut down the price from $3,500 to $2,500 just they were discontinued... That was a missed opportunity that is never likely to go come back.
The one on Ebay for 10K is someone who is fishing. You can still buy used ones for well under 3K. Thank being said, I found a new one in Japan and paid a little more because it was new. The Jupiter X is better I have heard, but I'll stick with my 80.
@328Simone Well, I think the Jupiter-80 is a great synthesizer, very high quality build, excellent 6-octave keybed, a very playable musical instrument. Recently, I've been ogling the JD-XA. I almost bought it, until I noticed a $177 tax was added. When I thought of all these people in my local government and how I don't want to give them my money, I just gave up on the purchase.
Great demo but 10:19 ~ 11:09 needs to be played on the real deal the Jupiter 8 instead of the muddy sounding 80. And the price difference between them is the reality check that says it all.
Are there any compnaies making custom sounds for the Jupiter 80 like they are making for the Kronos, just wonder. There seems to be alot of companies making custom sounds for the Kronos now. Roland needs to do the same with this Jupiter 80, is there any companies doing this. I might get into do that myself
How can this be a live synth with no nobs... Does it change patches and keep the last playing? If not, how can this be a good live synth.. This is ridiculous. In this day n age, You must have sequencer, nobs, built in sampler options; something extra for this kind a money! this is ridiculous... Thanks Ujiie, alt-least your up n up! I always like your vids... better to go with the Yammy!
You can morph parameters (Tone Blender) with knobs, D Beam or Expression pedals (2), it's powerfull. You can change or adjust volume of every "patch" you want while playing a registration (with screen or catergory button) . There are 10 patchs in a registration (1-4-4-1).
very hard to prograqmm it! It is not as blind as the Dx7 in terms of easiness of programming but it is very strange the sound /patch management. And the analog sounds of the legendary Jupiter 8 sound too modern.
it's the playing that makes this board even more beautiful with 30 ossilators very impressive with this I will have the. Roland g6 I have the brass board and electric piano, cards in it and the Roland Vsynth keyboard as well Roland king of the keyboards very Roland love the genius you do keep it up.

Tell me about it. When he played Japanese version of Final Countdown my boner went into full throb mode.
David Flanigan , i agree. But i want to know who is the "Jackie Chan" of keyboard? 😂
Ujie-san is unique Man! Read his biography - he is just a real guru of the hardware and software synthesizers :))
Just like kick ass synth plays
my dream keyboard rig is this jupiter 80 and a korg kronus... these 2 synths are very powerful and have sonic diversity and great arpeggiated sounds
You demo has been one of the best playing and showing the many sounds possible, not just synth stuff. Thanks for doing that.
The best demonstration and review of the Jupiter 80

Gorgeous sounds, a dream machine. God Bless Roland, they really know what they're doing.

Katsunori, great job!!! Please make more videos!!!!
Excellent sound and great review by UJIIE!
Nice filters and warm sounds, great synth, look good too
best demo of this jupiter 80! congratulation, once again, mister Ujiie!
Wow Jupiter has steped up there game!!!!! Great post Musictrackjp!!!!!!!!
synergy of man - instantly in love with that one
The jupiter 80 is a must have specially if you have a kronos... they work together nicely on stage or studio
works well with my mofif xf7 also
1:44 I like this guy.
It's awesome .only people like ne who are lucky enough to own one and many others like this will every know....ya don't have a a Fuck clue
Sounds like some of the music from the original movie "Blade Runner " Great Demo !! Many thanks

the buttons under the key bed are a nice touch.
Monster synth in its day, now we get same sounds on our telephones lol
Such an under rated synth, The pre-sets alone are incredible so I don't understand what's not to like about it
The JP-80 has some of the best ''dreamy fx'' trumpets in the world.
These are the Great JUPITER sounds !!
JUPITER-80 need to introduce more Synthesizer sound not Real instrument like Piano, Trumpet, Organ.
Roland introduced some excellent new analog sounds for the Jupiter 80 with free sound packs. And I like having the acoustic sounds available to add to live sets and registrations.
Great demo!
it just sounds gorgeous. give me one of these and a Prophet 12 and i'll be happy for a decade.

COOOOOOL sounds that Jupiter 80 makes. WOW

Ameretsu Shidori matrix brute is not polyphonic.
How do you know how far you are tuening those knobs below the screen, can you move them the same everytime in a song.
Is there a possibility for english subtitles for English translation...... would be very helpful & educational
Bitchin sounding instrument 👍
6:40 tomita sound:)
It has tone remain on it
yes it does and there buttons under the keyboard for that
14:29 He plays The Lick!
アナログシンセサイザーが欲しい
That's exactly what the JP-80 is.. lol
Waaaw👍👍👍🤔🤔🤔🤯🤯🤯

Who’s idea was it to stick the keyboard on backwards ?
very hard to prograqmm it! It is not as blind as the Dx7 in terms of easiness of programming but it is very strange the sound /patch management. And the analog sounds of the legendary Jupiter 8 sound too modern.
Пётр рядом, точка. Точка. Точка.
New fantom 6 is best or jupiter 80 is best
Put me in charge of Roland - you would have the Roland "Saturn" with all analog signal path, and digital hybrid if you wanted it.
I just realized the entire music instrument industry is Japanese. Korg, Roland, Yamaha, Kawai, Casio,
What does he say at 8:24? Eiga no shigoto no irai ga...something?
I didn't replay the video but it's something like "If your job is doing a movie soundtrack, this does it instantly."
