  • Hey Hub motor owners... Did you ever experience a cut off due to motor overheating.... If you are a racer or use your ebike in high speeds in warm climate... Then you know what I'm talking about... Ferrofluid AKA statorade is the cure... Take a look at how its installed by the team over at Powerful Lithium...

If there was an award for best bike customer service and ebike shop "V" would win the Oscar award 👏🏽

V is showing his experience 😁
Statorade is sometimes applied by simply injecting it through a drilled hole (or a special screw hole) in the motor cover plate, but V's technique is far better. Geared hub motors have an air gap between the rotating magnet shell and the motor casing, so Statorade does not work well with them. Fun Fact: A motor's "nominal" rating is the power level at which it will never overheat. In scientific terms, it's where the heat produced internally reaches equilibrium with the thermal dissipation rate, so Statorade technically increases the motor's nominal power rating. It does NOT increase the peak power rating though, so don't get any crazy ideas!
I'm really shocked the motor had no O-ring seal, so using high temp sealant is a wise choice. Hall sensors are used by the controller to determine what position the magnets are in relation to the stator windings, and that's how the controller knows when to energize each of the three groups of coils. Losing a hall sensor will cause the controller to error-out or go into limp mode, so dual sensors can keep your ride from being interrupted. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the comment… 🙌💯🙌Always look forward to yours…
The hole in the cover always confused me… I think the probability metal shavings entering the motor is high and if this happens what kind of negative impact could this have… “V’s” method seems the most precise… I know Ferrofluid used to suggest that but have since changed the install method…
I’d love to hear your opinion…

I have found an insurance company for my bombers, just in case they get stolen, burn up or we hit a person or car. Makes sense with high powered ebikes

Do you add statorade on a geared hub motor or only for direct drive hubs?

    • @mr.e_from_nyc

I’m hearing you can… but being that these high powered hub motors are mostly gear less it’s not talked about as often… 🙌💯🙌

I heard statorade/ferrofluid needs to be changed eventually as it hardens over time. Do you know at what mileage roughly does this need to be replaced, and how hard is the process of scraping off the old residue before reinserting statorade/ferrofluid again? My ride is a long-distance car replacement. I pack a lot of miles on it. Thanks.

      Two words… Wear And Tear… well that’s 3 words lol 😝
They usually say that should be changed yearly depending on how often the bike is in use. If it’s not every day for commute or a crazy amount of miles, it can be done in 2 years. You know that’s an excellent topic for a video… 🙌💯🙌 Thanks for bringing this up… 💪
