When this song first came out I really thought Nicole Wray could sing but it's actually Gina Thompson singing this song and her whole first album.. didn't realize she couldn't sing at all until she came out with that song "if I was ya girlfriend" song vocals sound totally different
For those who didn't know, Nicole Wray was the first artist ever signed to Missy Elliott's label The Goldmind Inc., and was expected to release a follow-up to this song's debut entitled "Elektric Blue" (2001) but it was never released because it kept getting pushed back due to Missy signing & promoting other artists under her label at the time. There were so many lost voices in the Goldmind that never got a fair shot; Nicole, Mocha, Torrey Carter, Gina Thompson, Soul Diggaz, Danja Mowf, Jessica Betts, So Def, Sider, Brianna Perry, Sharaya J, Tweet.

Nicole Wray should've been a bigger star in R&B. Her music is dope. Her debut album is a banger, from start to finish.
Both her and Lil' Mo should've made a bigger splash in R&B. I don't fault Missy at all because she put a lot of folks on through her label Goldmind, I just wish they had more exposure. Mo _still_ gets those songwriting royalty checks and airplay.

OMG ya'll she was only 17 years old when she did this song with Missy. Nicole Wray actually has a interview on here where she actually talks about this whole experience. She met Missy , Aaliyah and quite a few others. The kids at her high school thought she was lying when she told them about his until they rolled out the t.v and there she was in a whole music video looking and sounding gorgeous as ever.

She fought to be payed and received a payment of $30,000 for her work, even tho the song became a chart-topping hit.
