im in the UK and bought a stadium 2 for one room and a strata 3 for the smaller room, this new sub looks just like the strata3. its a great sounding sub indeed! before I bought these I remember the founder of REL doing a demo at the Bristol hifi show of his various units, stadium, stentor and strata. this was at a time when folk didn't really use subs on their systems.
Best Rel that i have had was a Strata 3 subwoofer , Beter than the t5x that i now have . It had a expansive efortless sound that was way more musical with music
Interesting review. Can I suggest that perhaps as part of this review that you consider playing some music with the daniel hertz system you now have to demo how it sounds with and without the REL sub in play. Sure the sound quality oin youtube is not perfect but it will give us a chance to better understanding the points you made in this review.
Forget the Kef KC-62 I've been contemplating as a minimalist decor friendly solution. At 18.5 in high the Rel 98 would be the perfect side table I've been looking for. If I'm lucky my girlfriend won't notice that yet another piece of dreaded audio gear has entered the house.
My REL T7/i provides tuneful, tight bass for my vintage (looking) Heresy 4 and LS3/5As. I'm never going back to the woolly sound of the '70s when I couldn't hear vocals clearly and records had no bass or treble unless I cranked up the tone controls 😅.
I’m guessing instead of 1 S510 I’d be better off with two of these with my Dynaudio heritage special which I bought after your review. It’s my second system but I actually listen to it more because I hang out in that room more😊. Keep up the great reviews.
With a pair of Townshend Maximum Supertweeters and pair Rel classic 98 subwoofers dial in. You'll looking mighty unkempt and mighty dishevelled as you'll abandoned all meanings of life just listen to your system 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The driver orientation doesn’t matter at all, I run three different systems with six different subs, half of them fire down, half forward, orientation isn’t the difference maker. I live in an upstairs apartment. Not a single noise complaint in a dozen years living here.
damn, I have a pair of s510's and love them. But if these were available I would've bought a pair of these. Love the wood cabinet and I'm sure they're more than enough for the music I listen to.
Has anyone heard of BK Electronic Subs, they are based in England and used to make subs for Rel. I wonder if their subs sound like this new old Rel. BK Subs are quite a bit cheaper too and have the same high level inputs.
A subwoofer made to pair with vintage component aesthetics but doesn’t have speaker level inputs (since pretty much every vintage receiver does not have a sub out) seems like a miss.
This REL sub has indeed high level input. Just on the subwoofer side there is a neutrik speaker connection. On the other side u have to connect bare cable to the b speaker connection on ur amp.
@@JR-ho5qm Yes that would be better, but remember, the whole modern floor vibrates like a subwoofer. But in all, I think Steve's system is incorrectly set up anyway
@@Campbell1. It depends of what kind of wooden floor. It your floor is made of solid wood it is not a problem. There is no vibration at all in that kind of situation.

Just ignore Re's AVR setup. Plus PEQ is recommended with a subwoofer.
Nice to see them branch out from piano black.

I own 2x Storm 3 . 😊
How does the Classic 98 compare to the T/9x red?
I wondered this question, too!

Seems like a great option! Thanks for the review!
"Here's your crossover" (kitteh crosses over in front of camera) 😂
Lol
I do sense a vintage vibe here. I like the look a lot. Great take.
Do you have a list of your subwoofer demo tracks?
Check out the intro to Edge of Tomorrow

For a high WAF sub this might be perfect. It seems like it could actually work as a side table…
Great review. Wondering what it would be like to move to this from my my T7/x. And Sissy is precious ❤️
Don't do it.
@@darpanbhuyan1909 Lol…Would only if I could try it first! Still love the t7/x 👍🏼

That's not a sub it's bass module. 8" ? Waste of time.
19 years! Cute 😊
He's an oldie!
Would you recommend these for Fleetwood Devilles?
Might be what I need for my Sourcepoint 10s
I think this would be a fantastic choice for those speakers!
Love my REL T5X

I wonder if a pair of these would match my JBL L100 Classics. The wildcard is my Naim amplification, would the subs sound slow with that prat?

Fantastic. Just what Inwa looking for my Klipsch La Scala’s in walnut veneer. Now, the question is whether to get a single one or a pair? 😁
That's what I thought: finally a nice sub for the La Scala's!
Pair in Stereo. High level from the speaker terminals
Finally, a throwback to the real REL’s. When does the new Studio and Stentor come out?
Cat proof speakers are the best. 6:10 to say the name of the master of the domain.
Wonderful Cissy
Well said…currently working with a Sunfire true subwoofer jr. How do these compare with the Kef kc62s?
I love your videos....thanks
How do you feel about downward firing subs on suspended floors ie second story room.

You could try setting it on a solid piece of granite
I've got a classic (Q100 which cost £500 in 19)98. Not sure if it still works as I havent used it for years
If possible review KEF reference 1 bookshelf what kind of upgrade over R 3
Here in Australia this REL Classic 98 retails for$2,699 aud

Bummer, I thought you were keeping the Heresy. You through out the boxes.
Thanks for sharing
Bravo, Rel!!!
This sounds a lot like someone who doesn’t know much about subs talking about a sub
Does that work on carpet. Seems like that would kill the sound.
I would set it on a nice solid piece of Granite. 👍🏻
I love this sub but dual JBL L10cs in walnut come in cheaper; 2 for the price of 1.
Hi, Sissy. Nice to see you.
Why it is so big.
If this was a question....larger subs dig deeper in general.
hahahahaha. It's freaking tiny. What you talking about?
On the smaller side ,as subs go
@@jerryjohnson4625 Yes it is. Mid sized.

@@Anacridhaze No problem, best thing is that REL supplies that cable and according to their page it's 10m or 33'6" long
🎯👏👍🙏❤
Here we go. There should be a promotion label requirement in the title.
A down firing sub onto a wooden floor! When will people learn?
What are you talking about
You could set it on a solid chunk of granite

That " a little bit wolly " works a bit with speakers like the 3th harmonic in tube amps , is distortion , is not really accurate ,...but who cares
Prrrrrrrrrrrr 😂
Probably made by BK haha
Niche customer, not a fan of the wood veneer.
AMMMAZING!..
