Not a nervous habit; it's a safety habit. Any gun that will not stand up to my slide racking and dry firing gets sold off or trashed. I have little use or interest in fragile firearms, unless they have some really incredible historical significance to compensate for their fragile design.
@hickok45 I have been a long time watcher throughout the years. I think it's great to have watch how u and Jon (I hope I spelled his name right) changed. From the earliest of days till now. I have gotten so many items and guns per your recommendation. I hope your guys dogs are well too I know sometimes I these vids they like to chime in w approval. 😊 keep on a shooting good sir....p.s. These pm9s are awesome !! Love kahr !!
I just received a PM9 for Christmas, I took it to the range for its break in and it functioned flawlessly. It's my 4th Kahr, I have never had a malfunction with any of the 4 even during the break in. I was in law enforcement and security for over fortyfive years . I have been carrying a handgun daily for over 48. Kahrs since 1997 without a problem. I own over forty handguns including Sigs, Smiths, Rugers, Brownings, Colts and Walthers and my EDC is the Kahr P380 in Summer and P9 in winter. They are all super accurate and reliable. You don't even realize you are carrying them! Guess I will have to fit the PM9 into that schedule as well now!wish Kahr had been around when I started in LE I could have saved a lot of money!
I realize this is a zombie thread, but my now considerable experience with both the Kahr P9 and the Kahr PM9 has been outstanding. Quality weapons, very accurate for their small size, excellent trigger, and extremely reliable once past the initial break-in. I own a lot of different pistols, and the Kahrs rank up there with my favorites. Not surprised Hickok45 likes the PM9.
keep up the good work hickok45. Your videos have always been packed with cheeky humor and accurate information. It's nice to see someone giving the skinny instead of bullshit.
I have a pm9, and love it.I too broke mine in.Even during the breakin period.I have never had a misfire.many hundreds of rounds later, still no misfires. Like Hickok,Itoo enjoy shooting the gun.I like it so much,I bought my daughter a cm9.
I have watched many of your videos and bought a Glock 27 a Glock 23 and the Kahr PM9 as the result. Good calls every time. I love them all. Thanks so much and keep up the good work.
Love all of my Kahr pistols! Most worked right out of the box, a couple needed the 200 round break in but these guns are worth every penny! I have several P series and several of the budget line and honestly they all shoot the same. My favorite piece is my MK40. Such a sexy gun!
Mr. Hickock. Thank you for this excellent review. I just ordered my PM9 and am very excited to take ownership of this firearm. In one of your other PM9 related videos you mentioned that your PM9 did not experience some of the documented malfunctions that are characteristic with other PM9s. You said that when you got your PM9 you took it completely apart and soaked it in Ballistol and that may be a reason why the firearms performed well for you. If you find the time please post a video of that process. I intend for my PM9 to be my summer EDC pocket gun and I want to make sure I am doing everything in my power to make it as dependable as possible. Thank you for making these great videos. keep it up!
@mrantihippie , big question. Watching as many videos on different guns might be the best approach, plus get to a rental range if you can and try out some actual models you think you might like.
They'd better not be junk; the PM9 is my most common pocket carry. :-) It works whenever I shoot it, which is exactly the kind of "junk" I'm always looking for in a defensive firearm. :-)
Love your range! Reminds me of days (and thousands of rounds) gone by. Enjoy your videos - very informative, entertaining, and educational. Keep up the great work!
Just a general note, many of my handgun and rifles enthusiast friends love your videos and depend on your no nonsense valuations before making any acquisitions. You're doing a great job...keep it up! Recently bought a Glock 26 and a Ruger SR556...wouldn't have had the confidence without first checking out your videos. Love these little puppies.
I have to thank you. I tried the rubberized talon grips on my pm9 and liked it but it really didn't help as much as I would have liked so I just installed the granulated talon grips and they make a huge difference. I love being able to carry a 9mm in the pocket and could shoot it ok but not as well as I wanted to now it feels so much better. Again, thank you Hickok45!
@Habiat23, Well, the main thing it does is pretty much confirm whether the gun is empty. There's this loud bang if you did not check the chamber well enough. :-)
@TheNeanderthaller , You'd better study the Glock line-up a bit more, as well as be a bit more careful about your posts. I've noticed you seem to have an attitude that won't last long around my channel.
I own a Kahr PM9 and my wife has a Kahr P380. She also owns a Glock 27. But does she carry it? No. She says its too heavy to carry. I bought her the Kahr P380 and she carries it everyday. I shot her P380 and that gun is very accurate and has no recoil. Its a great little pocket gun. My Kahr PM9 is also very accurate and a very light everyday carry gun. Especially in the Florida heat. Great video.
I just bought a Kahr PM9 and am in love with it. I love the trigger. After a quick inspection; right out of the box i put 400 rounds through it with out and failures. I like the size and feel of the gun. I opted for the black slide and night sights. Some how, I shoot the PM9 better then I shoot my CZ 75 SP01 Tac.... It must be me, but the Kahr is a fine firearm for sure. Good luck!
Hickok45 I've watched almost all of your videos and just today finally subscribed! Thank you for all of your great tapes. I bought a p9 recently for my b-day and love it! Life is good for sure
@bluem3 , It just takes some getting used to the double action trigger. I shoot so many different guns every week that I'm used to going from one totally different trigger to another, I guess.
hickok, I bought a Kahr cm40 based on ur review on the pm9. I racked the first round with the mag release but still had multiple failures to feed on every mag. I went back upstairs to the shop and bought a shield just out of spite. 0 problems with the shield.
@CelticSouthland , I think they have that in progress. As I understand, the engraved model designation (PMS) is high tech and will change back and forth from "PM9" to "PMS," depending on what day of the month it is. :-) I can now hear my female fans unsubscribing by the thousands! :-)
LOL!! You described how you MUST load the pistol by using the slide release... then right after, you loaded a mag and then gently pulled the slide back on a slingshot and it chambered a round no problemo. You seem to shoot it as well as your G26, until you tried long shots, not it's purpose... I really like the Kahrs, AFTER they are broken in... My favorite so far is the P9... but the PM9 Black Diamond I have is a keeper too. NOTE: Kahr had some bad followers... they replaced them no questions.
I just bought a PM9 yesterday. They have added night sights to them and changed the plastic end on the extended mag a bit. Being that I have a CW9 I was familiar with the break in period and the "no racking the slide" rule that Kahr has, however neither the CW9 nor the new PM9 seemed to have any issues with break in. Both functioned flawlessly. I purposely released the slide when it locked back so that I could rack it for testing and it loaded the ammo into battery fine every time.
@wcgold2 , Most people who know guns do it all the time, at least with center fire guns. That doesn't mean it's okay, though, to do it with other people's guns or guns we pick up in a gun shop or at a gun show.
I love your Glock videos but it sure is nice to see you broadening your horizons.I think you make wonderful non biased reviews. I sure hope some companies send you some firearms to check out!
@byroniverson , I'll link to the magazine, but I don't know that they will be online. Some magazines put their articles online, but I guess most don't.
Have one. Like it. It's probably one of the most convenient carry pieces out there. With an inside the waistband holster you really do forget your wearing it
The PM9 has definitely peaked my interest as of late especially the later models with that funky laser built in. Looks like a reliable little guy lol great vid even for an older one.
I own the Kahr PM( and my wife owns the Kahr P380. The PM9 loaded with 6 rounds in a leather pocket holster weighs about 22 ounces in jean shorts. Its a little too heavy for me. A true pocket gun with light weight is the Kahr P380. I am a big guy and I can feel the 9 but not the 380. Both guns are very accurate and shoot well. The P380 has almost no recoil and very accurate.
I watch gun videos for their seriousness, experience and opinion. It was such a delight and surprise to experience your humor that is in this video. The IRS - too large- too small - just right. I found myself cracking up more than a few times.
@hickok45 Your a great marksman. I am a pistol virgin so I guess I am easily impressed. I am a 23 year old father & I have been considering getting a concealed handgun license here in Texas. I can't tell you how badly I want to learn gun safety & how to shoot a pistol. God forbid I ever am in a situation where I have to defend myself & those I love with lethal force. I just hope adrenalin pumping doesn't cause me to make a deadly mistake, I guess thats where training comes in.
Yup, that's my daily carry. I carry it in my pocket and you can't tell what it is. With time the problem of dropping the slide by racking it gets better. Remember that these little pistols were designed to digest +P+ ammo at first but people had a hard time chambering them. So the only change they did was to reduce the mainspring a bit. It will digest +P all day long. Interesting FAQ: The guy who founded Kahr is the son of Rev Moon LOL!!
@tazo300 , I think the Glock is a better, more reliable gun; however, the PM9 is a quality little piece. If size matters, the PM9 is a fine choice. Sometimes the G26 is just too big.
I enjoyed the review, thank you. I'm new to the world of handguns. What I learned from this video was the 6 o'clock hold. I'm used to firing the M4 and I've always referred to the sighting as "lollypop" sighting. It appears to be quite similar in idea. My father in law has purchased another Kahr handgun, and since his passing, has left me his P40. I've taken your impressions on the Kahr product and am anxious to work with my "first" personal handgun. Thank you.
Purchased new a PM9 Black Diamond and it failed at 100 or so rounds . . . failure to slide, feed, or eject mag . . . just all gummed up. Took it home, cleaned it . . . called Kahr. Tech Rep asked if I had cleaned it before shooting first time. 'Nope.' They ship their pistols with a rust inhibitor that has to be cleaned . . . so, that's what that strange reddish material was spraying out on the slab side! Back to the range tomorrow to finish up the break in.
The PM9, with its lower bore axis & dual recoil spring assembly -- felt recoil will be much less than the LCR. Very smooth trigger on the PM9. The LCR is longer, wider, taller in ht. -- but only a 5 shot capacity. Revolvers are slower to reload than the KAHR semi-auto magazine with 6+1 capacity. LCR 125gr 38+P in a 1.87" barrel is a weak defensive cartridge - delivering only 188 ft lbs energy (FPE). PM9 124 gr 9mm delivers 321 FPE -- more effective stopping power. The PM9 overall -- with more rounds, faster reloads, greater stopping power, less recoil, easier to conceal carry -- is a far better self-defense handgun.
haha hickok45 you are awesome! You have a really funny and straight face sense of humor and you are a great shot! The way you can hit those small orange circle plates 15-20 yards away like that is badass :) keep making great vids!
Ol' Hickok45 must be a total deadeye using a standard sized gun! I've got my PM9 on order from Cheaper Than Dirt and I can't wait to take it to the range. Every time I see you out on that apparent back yard range of yours I drool a bit! :)
Your Kahr seems to be a lot more accurate than mine... :P FYI: The only complaint I had with my CM9 is that the edges around the ejection port on the slide were VERY sharp, almost dangerous! Well, I had a local gunsmith "de-horn" the gun, and he also polished a couple other contact points. HUGE improvement and I'm very happy with it now! :)
For everyday carry the Khar PM9 is my choice . I've carried it over two years . I do at times carry a Kimber ultra or a Glock . 90% PM9 with an extra mag . Great stuff :)
Great video has usual. Nice to see you out actually shooting while giving your thoughts on these guns. Much rather watch this than some guy sitting at a desk cursing and calling himself names constantly...
I love the way Hickok says NOT to slingshot .. . Then turns right around and does it ! My Karh 9mm will feed and EMPTY case from the slide forward or locked position, as slow or as fast I do it.
Totally different feel due to the fact that one is a revolver with a larger grip. It would be hard to quantify the difference. Not a lot of difference, though, I suppose. At least nothing dramatic.
Hickok could I make a request? I would like to hear either the price you picked up the guns for or the MSRP. I think that is about the only thin missing in your reviews. Keep up the great work and best wishes to you. Also with you having over a million subscribers now I wanted to congratulate you.
most of the guns are sent to him via buds, or other manufacturers. some hey sends a "check" for others he sends back afterwards for e-gunner actions for charity.
After a few hundred rounds through mine it became 100 percent reliable and it shoots great. It sure scared me though. Thought I'd been had in the trade. I'm sure the other guy thought I'd been had too!
Bought this as a result of this vid....This thing is quickly becoming my primary carry gun, 'specially when it gets hot down here (Houston). Thing disappears under all my clothing, I can even carry it wearing athletic shorts and a t-shirt without getting a second look. Love my G27, but this thing is lightweight, highly concealable and a sweet shooter!
After browsing the kahr message board I notice a lot of complaints of broken followers. The issue is a defect or design flaw. On some of the cm and pm pistols the magazine follower contacts the feed ramp. Eventually they break since their plastic. It''s not all of the guns. A minority I'm sure. After 2 tests I confirmed mine was contacting the feed ramp and also by the mark left on the follower. So I know my magazine will fail at some point. I called kahr and they told me no it's not touching. He said it's designed to be the thickness of half a cigarette paper away from it. Obvious lie. I assured him it was touching. He then said if it is touching it would of broke by now. Lies. After researching this I found it could break after 6 shots or 1000. It will keep breaking until it is properly fixed. I was told if it breaks they will send me a new follower. After it breaks twice I can send it in. I asked if I could send it in since it is clearly defective and under warranty and was told no. This is an on going problem that kahr is very aware off but refuses to fix. I will not trust my life to that gun and will not buy another. I strongly advise against buying one and urge you to check your gun for feed ramp follower clearance if you do. Please google it and see for yourself. Type in "kahr follower broke"
Hickok...you don't always need to come up with excuses man. We all know you are a very, very good shooter. Just sayin'. Keep the vids coming, I love them.
@Makingnewnamesisdumb I gotta tell ya, I was infantry in the invasion of 2003 (Iraq) and also deployed to Ramadi 2005. We never ever dropped our empty M-4 mags. Ever. They always went into the cargo pocket.
I bought mine used and love it. I'm nowhere near as good a shooter as most, but I was making a coke can dance at about a dozen yards. Wow, definitely a keeper. The only thing I'd change on mine is mebbe "black out" the stainless steel slide sometime.
i know in one of these kahr videos(380?) you mentioned the break in and that you had no failures maybe due to you cleaning it also like the manual recommends. just like to through out there that i bought a kahr k9 recently cleaned and lubed it a week before my trip for the 200 rnd break in period, no failures. it would seem that cleaning and lubing a kahr right out the box leads to a 0 problem gun. anyway great review, i hope to pick a pm9 up some day.
Thank you sir for all of your great videos. This is pretty much the only gun I carry in the summer. I like shorts and T-shirts. After about 1000 rounds, I've never had a problem. It's getting colder now in MA, so I will be carrying my Ruger SP101 .357 Magnum. I guess the cold is ok.
Those are nice little guns. I think I like the .380 better because it's smaller and I could see it fitting a pocket better. I'm just not sure it would fit my hands. The 9mm I think might be a little too big for a pocket, but a little too small for a holster. On second thought maybe a it's perfect for holster carry on a female.
@hickok45 im looking at the all stainless steel version and i cant wait to get it. the mk9 elite because i want to go all out. I hear the mk9 elite shoots like a cadillac drive, very smooth. im buying for ccw and just like you said, i do wish glock made the 26 in single stack, thats one of the feature that sells me on kahr. great review as always, no rambling about things i dont care about and you test it out at the same time.
Just got this baby and use it as my CCW. Broke it in with about 200 rounds but the accuracy of it has been having me question my own accuracy lol. I am going to keep on shooting to see if it get better. The double action may be throwing me off.
Just got one at the gun show this morning, my first concealed carry
Not a nervous habit; it's a safety habit. Any gun that will not stand up to my slide racking and dry firing gets sold off or trashed. I have little use or interest in fragile firearms, unless they have some really incredible historical significance to compensate for their fragile design.

what i like most about the kahr is the great trigger, very smooth
I've carried a kahr pm9 for five years. I absolutely love it. it's a great gun.

+Mark Collier The #4 Pachmayr grip sleeve is a great addition too, if one does not prefer the sandpaper feel... both very good.

A well thought out comment!
He also said "either that or you have to really slingshot it". Which he did.

@mrantihippie , They have a pretty good reputation. I bought one recently.
Amazing how accurate you are with a subcompact! Thanks for the video.
I have been thinking about one of these.. they are obviously good shooters
Thanks for the video

I was watching hickok channel (Legal pocket guns) and liked the PM9 so I searched it and I indeed right back at hickok's channel, he has every gun.
@yakyakyak69 , Sounds very "tactical," but I go ahead and drop them anyway.
I still have it and still like it a lot.
I own the Kahr PM( and my wife owns the Kahr P380. The PM9 loaded with 6 rounds in a leather pocket holster weighs about 22 ounces in jean shorts. Its a little too heavy for me. My dad carries this gun everywhere he's had it all my life
The PM9 is the firearm I have chosen as my EDC.
Very compact and concealable.
Just be sure to shoot at least 200 rounds through it to break it in.
Have a Mk9 and love it.
Me too
I like your comments about the Kahr's slide release. I have the same discomfort with my LCP. It took some time to get use to that.
Yup, that's my daily carry. I carry it in my pocket and you can't tell what it is. With time the problem of dropping the slide by racking it gets better. Thanks for sharing.
Hickok, you rock!!!!!!!! Love your videos!!!!!!!Steve
@keltingr , That's what I've done.

They ship their pistols with a rust inhibitor that has to be cleaned . . . so, that's what that strange reddish material was spraying out on the slab side! Back to the range tomorrow to finish up the break in.
Thanks for the demo on this gun. You have one heck of a great place to shoot there. Thanks for all your effort.
Just got my Kahr CW9 today and love it small and just right to carry !
Crazy how much your video quality has gone up since this! Nevertheless this one’s great
haha hickok45 you are awesome! You have a really funny and straight face sense of humor and you are a great shot! The way you can hit those small orange circle plates 15-20 yards away like that is badass :) keep making great vids!
Awesome. I carry a PM9 on an everyday basis. I love this little gun and would not trade it for nothing!
it cracks me up when he says I have a lot of excuses to miss then he starts shooting and never misses
Ol' Hickok45 must be a total deadeye using a standard sized gun! I've got my PM9 on order from Cheaper Than Dirt and I can't wait to take it to the range. Every time I see you out on that apparent back yard range of yours I drool a bit! :)
most awesome intro ever, * those guns on the table * "Hey hickock45 here!", u looked like some kind of terminator
Your Kahr seems to be a lot more accurate than mine... :P
FYI: The only complaint I had with my CM9 is that the edges around the ejection port on the slide were VERY sharp, almost dangerous! Well, I had a local gunsmith "de-horn" the gun, and he also polished a couple other contact points. HUGE improvement and I'm very happy with it now! :)
Great shooting I have the PM40 and love the way it feels in the hand to,once again awesome shooting
@jones1inc , Probalby, but I don't think about it.
Wolf The PM9 runs about $750 new but I've seen them in the mid $400 range used.
most of the guns are sent to him via buds, or other manufacturers. some hey sends a "check" for others he sends back afterwards for e-gunner actions for charity.
I love my PM9 and am very glad to see you do this video... Keep up the good work...!
I just got a PM9. Man, I've been wanting one for a long time. It's such a nice piece. I can't put it down. I would like to shorten the trigger length.
@champion221elite , Is that a powder?
"IRS or homeland security flying over." Hillarious :)
I like it. Kahr did it right with this one. "Its just right" says Mr. Glock.
Hickok...you don't always need to come up with excuses man. We all know you are a very, very good shooter. Just sayin'. Keep the vids coming, I love them.
Hickok. First off, you are the man. Secondly, can you do a video on the Kahr CM9?
@Makingnewnamesisdumb I gotta tell ya, I was infantry in the invasion of 2003 (Iraq) and also deployed to Ramadi 2005. We never ever dropped our empty M-4 mags. Ever. They always went into the cargo pocket.
Thanks for this... the PM9 is on my short list for next handgun.
@mnpyton, Yes, that's a keeper. I like it a lot - wish Glock made one exactly that size.
@buckster7777 , It's doing fine - still has not malfunctioned. Great for this hot weather, if you know what I mean. :-)
I bought mine used and love it. I'm nowhere near as good a shooter as most, but I was making a coke can dance at about a dozen yards. Wow, definitely a keeper. The only thing I'd change on mine is mebbe "black out" the stainless steel slide sometime.
I really like my Kahr P380 and my Kahr CW9, but now I what that Kahr PM9 With the 3" Barrel!
i know in one of these kahr videos(380?) you mentioned the break in and that you had no failures maybe due to you cleaning it also like the manual recommends. just like to through out there that i bought a kahr k9 recently cleaned and lubed it a week before my trip for the 200 rnd break in period, no failures. it would seem that cleaning and lubing a kahr right out the box leads to a 0 problem gun. anyway great review, i hope to pick a pm9 up some day.
@hickok45
im looking at the all stainless steel version and i cant wait to get it. the mk9 elite because i want to go all out.
Eric Losh it’s funny looking back at this comment since the glock 43 is out
i love how he has all these excuses then goes and hits every single shot from the first mag
@hickok45 i noticed you shoot this one WAY better then the ruger and kel tec
Just got this baby and use it as my CCW. Broke it in with about 200 rounds but the accuracy of it has been having me question my own accuracy lol. I am going to keep on shooting to see if it get better. The double action may be throwing me off.
