I handled the Kahr P9 today at a local gun store; It was very nice. They have a used one for sale and it fits my hand like a glove. I have small hands and it is nice to finally find a 9mm thats not to big and not to small and the controls are all easy to use.
Kahr triggers are great! Just picked up a used PM40 with a ton of extras cheap and the thing looks brand new and the trigger is as smooth as butter! 👍🏻
Thanks for all of your fine videos, Mr. Hickok. I have owned the all black pm9 for several years now. It is very accurate and I never have had any misfeeds. Kahr has now come out with a less expensive pm model, with the only difference being that the barrel has lands and grooves instead of the more expensive polygonal pm barrel.
@Gungrave123 , It's not the actual trigger, but it's definitely part of the "action" when you're firing a round. In every pistol I've fired, the striker-fired guns affect the way the trigger action seems to operate, in that all my striker-fired experience tells me that the trigger is going to break at a more convenient point for me.
@MarksmanCentral, No Kahr I've held feels better, or would likely shoot better, than a Glock. It's just that if you want something smaller than the Glock26 or G27, the Kahr does a pretty good job of it, at least until Glock comes forward and offers something smaller.
Only thing I can add to this is that I have had a Kahr PM9 for years, and to date I haven't had a single failure of any kind. Even during the break-in period I was told to expect it to be unreliable until 100-200rnds, but never a problem once. I don't shoot it as accurately as my big 9mms like my Beretta 92FS Brigadier, but I love how it always just works which makes me feel safe and the form factor is really nice and tiny so is comfortable to wear while still firing a "good enough" caliber to get the job done.
Superb camera work by John as always. I especially liked the panoramic shots when all four were flat on the table. I like my Ruger LCP especially to carry in hot weather and it is always fun to watch it hit the gong with a bullet. I think of mine as strictly a 5 yard or less weapon.
Thanks for the review. I have just received my CCW and prefer to pocket carry initially. The LC9 has been the prime contender for the part. A friend of mine has several hand guns and this is one of them. This has been a good video. You do great work!
I just went through a similar comparison and i did pick the PM9, even though it is more costly. Just felt it was a better overall product, although the LC9 is good too. If cost is a concern on the PM9, get the CM9, the cheaper brother.
I have a ruger 22. rifle that my Great Grandpa gifted to me before he passed away :( You would have liked him Hickok he was a Competition shooter as well.He left me and my Dad a great collection of firearms.
I watched all of your Ruger LC9 videos and ended up purchasing one today based on your reviews, comments, as well as some of the comments of your viewers in regards to their LC9. Thank you for taking the time to help educate fellow shooters and thank you for your non biased reviews. Keep up the great work!
Just picked up the LC9S it doesn't have the long trigger pull and it's very smooth. I was able to compare both the LC9 and the LC9S at the shop and I immediately took to the LC9S with my big paws. The Striker fire is a big improvement over the hammer fire in my opinion and makes the LC9S so much more comfortable to handle then the LC9.
I had the cm9 and sold it to pay a power bill. I loved it's carry capability and can't believe how accurate these micro guns are. Now that I have caught up on bills my next purchase will be a cm40. I can't get over my bias to own a .380 I just don't like or trust the caliber to save a life.
Good vid. Love looking back through some of Hickok's older video's & learning while I'm there. Much appreciation for Hickok45 & his son, John! Keep up the great job!
Great video, as usual. That said I would have liked to have heard your thoughts on the feel of each gun. For instance, felt recoil, pushy vs. snappy, general comfort, etc. If you have any thoughts I would love to read them. Thanks for the channel!
There is also a Ruger factory 9 rd mag for the LC9. It doesn't come with the gun at original purchase, but can be purchased separately from Ruger. Not only gives you additional rounds, but also provides a longer grip to grab, which I like. (There is an X-grip product that fills the gap between the gun butt and bottom of the longer mag much like you find with many extended mags for other guns). When I carry my LC9, I carry 9+1.
This wife LOVES your videos, Hickok! We just bought our husband/wife carry guns~the S&W M&P .40c for him, and the LC9 for me. Luckily, both are comfortable for me to shoot. But, the LC9 goes better with my wardrobe :)
@GoldenRing1989 , I've never really worn a watch much in my life. I've carried a pocket watch at times, and now I just use my cell phone for a time piece. Either that or I just use the position of the sun. :-)
I made my first handgun purchase today. The Khar 9mm got my attention. It's been a while since I watched your videos. As a foreigner from the country of California I love your sarcasm.. 😂😂😂 I'll try not to worry about those holsters that hide in the pocket...
I really appreciate all your videos! Really like all the comparisons. I've got a SCCY CPX-2 ordered and on the way. As far as I've seen, you haven't reviewed this new American made 10 shot 9mm. Would love to see you review it!
Very helpful. Bought the Kahr because, THAT'S ALL THEY HAD LEFT in that config and even IT was on consignment. Will be my brides first gun. I'm concerned the recoil might be too much for her. I'm finding that the slide is hard to rack. Strong spring. I'll train her to carry the DAO with one in the pipe but, I'd like her to always rack to clear when handling so, I'm afraid it might not get carried and be a waste of dough. This was helpful though. Thanks
For those who don't like the trigger, you could modify the trigger post very easily so that it breaks much earlier and functions smoother. Just throwing that out there and people actually sell the parts online to do this.
Hey mr. Hickock i bought a kahr pm9 about 2 months ago i have about 2,000 rounds threw it with no problems at all it is my ccw i live in mass after watchin ur videos on it and seen that it was ur ccw i had to try it out thank
I make custom fit holsters, and have the chance to handle a wide variety of pistols. Recently I made holsters for both a p9 and a p45 (same customer) . Those Khars have the smoothest trigger I have ever felt, bar none.
Not a fan of Ruger, except their .22 handguns. P85 9mm was my first handgun purchase over 30 years ago. Sold it and got a Colt M1991A1 .45, which I still own.
Hey now. I live in Massachusetts. We have 400k people with Carry Permits. Which means concealed. Even though there is NO law banning open carry, it is strongly advised that you don't open carry. If someone gets "scared" and calls the cops, you'll probably have your license taken away and maybe arrested for "brandishing". But we can carry anywhere at anytime. Except schools and federal buildings.
I bought my Ruger LC9 for $370 MSRP on the Kahr PM9 is $786 I think the appropriate title should be; "2 Ruger LC9s, or 1 Kahr PM9" You would even have $46 left over and could get another magazine since both guns only ship with one, and a box of 50 9mm bullets. Seems like a really easy choice for me. Love all the videos Hickok45, thank you for sharing your knowledge with the gun community and beyond. Please keep up the good work. Thanks again.
people are obsessed with ruger because ruger is one of the best gun manufacturers ever. period. my absolute favorite gun is the new model blackhawk. so many people like ruger because a lot of people have good taste.
I just purchased the LC9 this morning for a great price. Shot 100 rounds with no misfires/misloads. It's a really enjoyable subcompact. Btw, my decision to buy was very much based on your review of the firearm. Thanks for the help!
I purchased the LC9 and hope to modify the trigger pull with the Galloway 35% shorter stroke trigger bar. I think the Kahr is a fine gun, but expensive and I like to have the thumb safety on my pistols.
What a good video! I did not see this untill I already bought my LC9. You confermed to me that I made a good choice.I want you to no that people like you that make good down to earth videos such as this one are a great help to people like me with limited knowledge on the subject. Life is good! Toby from Indiana.
Carry with confidence if you do get the LC9. I have been carrying mine since February and absolutely love it. It's the perfect compromise between size and power. I forget it's there and when I remember, I don't feel underpowered, especially with a spare mag in my back pocket. The thumb safety hasn't been engaged since the day I got it, on purpose or on accident. You own't even notice it's there. The LCI actually has came in handy though and I removed the mag d/c safety myself. Love it though!
Amazing that you shot the gong from so far away. I have the LC9 w/ crimson trace laser grips but have not shot it yet. I think I'll get out to the range to give it a go. Thanx for sharing.
Get the Galloway transfer bar and hammer for the Ruger. That will fix the trigger right up.Breaks further forward and resets further back.Good video.I'm looking at the LC9 for carry.I'm not wild about how "lawyered up" it is though (safeties).
i got my lc9 today, took it out to break it in, about 100 rounds or so, i def understand the trigger pull issue but since this is going to be my everyday carry, i will fine tune my finger for that on the range, i love the videos keep up the great work
Thanks for pointing out the Ruger's trigger breaks further back than the Kahr. Like you I prefer the Karh's trigger and find it to be a bit more compact then the Ruger LC9.
Foreign countries, like California and Massachusetts. Haha. I thought those might be coming. I love it, as usual, sir. And very nice review/comparison of the guns.
Hickok, You probably already know this, but Kahr recently released the CM9 which is the lower end model of the PM9, kind of like the CW9 and it is about the same price as the Ruger LC9 or cheaper. I still have my heart set on a blackened Kahr PM9 though. Hopefully I will be getting it soon. Great video by the way. A fair comparison. You had me thinking about the LC9 for a minute, but I remembered the CM9 is out there now
Random post; you may have heard similar comments before so ignore it if it's old news: I recommend a Panasonic HDC-TM900k with a shotgun microphone for your reviews. These look very nice but the panasonic is pretty incredible. You can find youtube samples of the quality. Happy shooting.
What do you have on the grip of your PM9? looks like foam tape of some sort? Also, how would you compare this to the CW9 entry level from Kahr? Thanks for the great vids.
I have a Ruger LC9 and carry it in my pocket. My mags have the mag finger extension, and it catches when the pistol is being removed from my pocket. I prefer pocket carry because it's more comfortable and more concealable. The LCP, although a .380 caliber, is easier to remove from the pocket even with the mag finger extension.
Hickok45, I'd like to see a comparison between the small .380s and a SIG P232 if you ever have the chance to do something like that. Thanks for all the videos, it's all very informative stuff.
Shield is a FANTASTIC gun IF you can get it. 6 month wait right now at most gun stores. Or pay over list at Gun Broker. I ended up getting the 9c and love this weapon!
Nice vid! I was interested in a ruger since I own a couple rugers and they have always done right by me. I also have a kahr cw45 which is the more inexpensive version of the kahr p45 pistol. The cw45 is about the same size as the pm9, and I love it. I might have to go pick up the pm9 though because I am really diggin' these little toys. Thanks for the great vids!
You know what they say about big hands and big feet- big gloves, big shoes. Thanks for the comparo. I am looking for a pocket 9 close to LCP size, the Kahr is close.
I just shot my LC9 for the first time today at the range. That's the first thing I noticed about it, the long trigger pull. The debate is, that's good for in self defense purposes, you won't be shooting multiple shots and innocents by having a hair trigger after the first shot such as SA after DA. However, the trigger pull seemed to go forever, hence, cutting down on accuracy. I like the idea of 7 shots instead of 6, and not having the slide lock after racking it like the PM9.
I really can't compare, because I only have the LC9 at the moment. But I do know that the LC9 is an awesome CCW! I also use the the De Sãntis leather IWB holster for sub-compact carry. I have yet find a more comfortable holster for the LC9. Although I'm not a fan of leather holsters, I guess this one is growing on me. Thanks Hickok, and keep up the great work and support for our constitutional rights!!!
Just to set the record straight, folks from Massachusetts can carry concealed! (I live there and have a permit for it.) Love the video! Looking at getting myself an LC9 pretty soon.
when you picked up the P-380, my lord, you made it look like a diddy litle gun. it was so funny. i think that may have moved me from the P-380 onto the PM9
plan on getting a lc9s. shot one a month ago and loved the gun and on another note I shot the lcp 380 and did not like it to much but still a good handgun nonetheless.
Hello Ruger. Just bought the LC9. After doing a lot of research including watching all of Hickok45's videos on this pistol. My friend has the pm9 and although it's a great gun I didn't like the sights and the trigger on it. Love the sights on the lc9 and the trigger (for my taste, is better than the Kahr. I have large hands...Not monster hands like Mr. Hickok.
I handled the Kahr P9 today at a local gun store; It was very nice. They have a used one for sale and it fits my hand like a glove. I have small hands and it is nice to finally find a 9mm thats not to big and not to small and the controls are all easy to use.

"Most people have an average sized hand" haha he's the best, love his commentary
Hickok's videos are so addictive.
I really want the PM9. It just looks like a great quality firearm. Thanks Hickok45 for your videos. They are amazing for research before purchase.
Only thing I can add to this is that I have had a Kahr PM9 for years, and to date I haven't had a single failure of any kind. +DumbDuck44 Ditto, I love my Kahr PM9
Same here. Had it forever and still like new
Great comparison demonstration.
Superb camera work by John as always. I especially liked the panoramic shots when all four were flat on the table. I like my Ruger LCP especially to carry in hot weather and it is always fun to watch it hit the gong with a bullet. I think of mine as strictly a 5 yard or less weapon.

I always enjoy your informative videos. You have helped me make another informed selection. Thanks for all of your detailed information and humor.

dam it i just bought a new lc9 today not knowing about the lc9s existance.
By far, hickock45 is my favorite on UA-cam
I had the cm9 and sold it to pay a power bill. I loved it's carry capability and can't believe how accurate these micro guns are. Now that I have caught up on bills my next purchase will be a cm40. I can't get over my bias to own a .380 I just don't like or trust the caliber to save a life.
My LCP naturally led me to the LC9. Both awesome guns that I regulary carry off-duty during summer months when wearing shorts are more common.
I love my PM9!! i stopped counting rounds at 750 rounds and i have had no problems at all!! (knock on wood of course!!!) Great carry gun
Awesome demonstration on both compact handguns.
Good vid. Love looking back through some of Hickok's older video's & learning while I'm there. Much appreciation for Hickok45 & his son, John! Keep up the great job!
I think we need to see more Kahr pistols on here.
Great video, as usual. That said I would have liked to have heard your thoughts on the feel of each gun. For instance, felt recoil, pushy vs. snappy, general comfort, etc. If you have any thoughts I would love to read them. Thanks for the channel!

That deadpan humor really got me LOL
@EyeSmart , I've not experienced any misfires or malfunctions with this one yet.
I really appreciate all your videos! Really like all the comparisons. I've got a SCCY CPX-2 ordered and on the way. As far as I've seen, you haven't reviewed this new American made 10 shot 9mm. Would love to see you review it!
A secret to that trigger, loop your finger in to the second knuckle when firing. A steel guiderod helps too.
i really appreciate these comparison videos, thanks hickok :)
Very helpful. Bought the Kahr because, THAT'S ALL THEY HAD LEFT in that config and even IT was on consignment. Will be my brides first gun. I'm concerned the recoil might be too much for her. hickok have you had a chance to shoot the new kimber solo yet,it would fit in nicely whith these guns here.
We can carry in Massachusetts with a license and the Kahr is Mass compliant.
Hey mr. Hickock i bought a kahr pm9 about 2 months ago i have about 2,000 rounds threw it with no problems at all it is my ccw i live in mass after watchin ur videos on it and seen that it was ur ccw i had to try it out thank
How would you compare the LC9 to a M&P Shield 9mm? Is there a big difference between the two?
I make custom fit holsters, and have the chance to handle a wide variety of pistols. Recently I made holsters for both a p9 and a p45 (same customer) . Those Khars have the smoothest trigger I have ever felt, bar none.

Sounds accurate, fellow Masshole here.
Nice Comparison Hickok...Kahr just recently came out with the CM9 at about $425-$450, a low cost PM9.
I bought my Ruger LC9 for $370
MSRP on the Kahr PM9 is $786
I think the appropriate title should be; "2 Ruger LC9s, or 1 Kahr PM9"
You would even have $46 left over and could get another magazine since both guns only ship with one, and a box of 50 9mm bullets.
Seems like a really easy choice for me.
Love all the videos Hickok45, thank you for sharing your knowledge with the gun community and beyond.
Please keep up the good work.
Thanks again.
I enjoy your reviews, very real world and subjective. I was considering a PF9 or LC9 and wathched your video. I'm now considering the PM9.
people are obsessed with ruger because ruger is one of the best gun manufacturers ever. period. my absolute favorite gun is the new model blackhawk. so many people like ruger because a lot of people have good taste.

Honest and unbiased review. Great job.
I purchased the LC9 and hope to modify the trigger pull with the Galloway 35% shorter stroke trigger bar. I think the Kahr is a fine gun, but expensive and I like to have the thumb safety on my pistols.
Got to admit, I was genuinely surprised how badly the Kahr was printing through the pocket, in the pocket holster. Mostly the completely square slide.
i love how fair hickok is with each gun
Great video, as always, excellent comparison and you answered all my questions. Off to buy my new LC9 for daily carry. Thanks, Rob
What a good video! I did not see this untill I already bought my LC9. You confermed to me that I made a good choice.I want you to no that people like you that make good down to earth videos such as this one are a great help to people like me with limited knowledge on the subject. Life is good! Toby from Indiana.
My dad's carry gun is a Kahr PM9. Amazing guns. World's thinnest 9mm.
i'm from NH and i love the fact so many manufacturers are based right around here. Sig, Ruger, S&W, even kahr. gotta love New England :D
EXCEPT FOR MA lol
Glad to see you put some rounds on the gong. Proof that you can get out there even with a "pocket" gun.
Agree. I just couldn't get used to that 99 mile long, and hard and gritty pull.
Thank you for your fun and informative videos.
Thanx for sharing.
last PM shot at 16+ minutes, impressive, dead center. Thanks Hickock
No video is complete without the gong ringing. Too cool!
"Most people have an average sized hand"
I almost lost my shit
I did, hahha
You can`t compare a pm9 to a lc9 because the ruger lc9 is crap. I bought and sold it as fast as i could. Kahr all the way
Like comparing a Fiero (LC9) to a Ferrari (PM9).
ruger got the 45s beat. I fired a kahr 45 one time, and handed it back to the owner.. that's all it took for me to stay with my rugers....
Good call. Kahr is so much better

Random post; you may have heard similar comments before so ignore it if it's old news:
I recommend a Panasonic HDC-TM900k with a shotgun microphone for your reviews.
I guess I go with the ruger I like the thump safety and the Xtra bullet. and yes is a ruger.
Every time you say "you have homework to do," I seriously feel like I am obligated to go through every video you have lol. Love your channel.
You can buy a PM9 with a thumb safety if you want. The MA compliant model.
You know what they say about big hands and big feet-
big gloves, big shoes.
Thanks for the comparo. I am looking for a pocket 9 close to LCP size, the Kahr is close.
@MarksmanCentral The cw9 is essentially the same thing as the pm9 but about $150 cheaper. Something to consider.
hickok how about a vid on the kimber solo
I just shot my LC9 for the first time today at the range. That's the first thing I noticed about it, the long trigger pull. The debate is, that's good for in self defense purposes, you won't be shooting multiple shots and innocents by having a hair trigger after the first shot such as SA after DA. However, the trigger pull seemed to go forever, hence, cutting down on accuracy. I like the idea of 7 shots instead of 6, and not having the slide lock after racking it like the PM9.
Another great Vid sir...and John's camera work gets better every time.
I love the PF9,LC9 and PM9 all very good pistols.
LOVE the LC9....great pistol!
Fantastic video hickok. Keep em coming.
I love your videos man so knowledgable and your on property range is goals especially for a coloradan
Just to set the record straight, folks from Massachusetts can carry concealed! (I live there and have a permit for it.) Love the video! Looking at getting myself an LC9 pretty soon.
Man, wish I could rip through the targets like that with a sub-compact.
Great videos! this is a great series of videos. any chance of revolver comparisons? yea, i'm an old guy getting back into wheelguns. thanks Hickok 45
when you picked up the P-380, my lord, you made it look like a diddy litle gun. it was so funny.
i think that may have moved me from the P-380 onto the PM9
CC in MA with a LTC Class A. Actually MA isn't too bad just limited mags size and trigger pull.
plan on getting a lc9s. shot one a month ago and loved the gun and on another note I shot the lcp 380 and did not like it to much but still a good handgun nonetheless.
Got the wife the LC9 with laser. Fits her well but haven't shot it yet, waiting for better weather. Thanks Hickok good review.
Put a Pachmayr grip on the LC9. You'll love it, especially if you have larger hands
Hickok.
Just what I was looking for - super video! Thanks for your very thorough insightful work!
