How To Lower Blood Pressure Naturally and Quickly At Home

  • If you want to lower your high blood pressure/hypertension quickly and naturally at home - then we will chat about the best ways to do this! The very first thing to reduce is your SALT intake. Salt makes your body hold onto water If you have too much salt in your diet, the extra water in your blood means there is extra pressure on your blood vessel walls, raising your blood pressure. cooking.
    2) Weight loss - For a lot of us - me included - we’ve gained some weight over the last 2 years. Busier working lives, less time for exercise and slowly the weight can creep up. Being overweight or obese increases your chance of having high blood pressure.
    3) Exercise Regularly - being active and taking regular exercise lowers blood pressure by keeping your heart and blood vessels in good condition and added bonus of losing wieght.
Aim to do moderate intensity exercise - anything that gets you out of breath- brisk walking, cycling, jogging, swimming or other sports you enjoy at least 3 times per week. [Aim to build this up to 150 minutes per week in a couple of separate days.](www.bhf.org.uk/informationsup...)
    4) Eat a healthy balanced diet
    - Its too simplistic to just cut out salt but ignore diet
    - Aim for a mediterrean diet - no strict - must eat this but - balance of lots of fruit and veg, whole grain, legumes, nuts, seeds, fish, low fat dairy - using extra virgin olive oil for cooking.
    - Reduce your saturated fats - these are fats in sausages/burgers/bacon/butter/cheddar cheese
    - Atleast 5 fruit and veg per day
    5) Reduce Stress Levels- So when you are stressed you release hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. These work part of a response you might have heard - “fight or flight” - the tigers are long gone coz we destroyed their habitats - but the response still increases your heart rate and blood pressure to make you ready to fight or run!
    - Get into meditation - studies have shown meditation and mindfulness is a great way to help reduce your stress. Aim to do it twice daily - morning and evening - 10 minutes just focusing on breathing.
    - Exercise is another great method to help burn that physical stress off.
    - Also doing things you love - video games/friends etc - things that recharge your batteries and make you feel happy can release good hormones that can relax your blood vessels.
    6) Limit your alcohol intake
People who drink alcohol tend to have high blood pressure - it is also high in calories so makes you put on wt =, in turn, can make you inc bp even more. We should aim to drink within healthy limits of 14 units per week.
    7) Reduce your Caffeine intake - You get caffeine in tea/coffee/energy drinks and soft drinks - but it can cause your blood vessels to constrict - meaning - narrowing - this in turn can increase BP.
    8) Stop Smoking
Lifestyle factors or tablets? The age-old question of whether you should start tablets or try to change your lifestyle to help you reduce your blood pressure. I will explain what I tell my patients in the hope that it helps you! Good luck with your journey.

Is there anything one could do when their pressure is high and they feel crummy (the headache in particular)?
Is there anything we can do "in the moment" to help our pressure come down, or at least help us feel better?

this is very depressing... I have been diagnosed with high PB for a couple of month now (150/100). Before that I used to be slightly overweight, trained regularly, did not smoke or drink. Since two months back I have increased my training (running 3 times a week one hour), I have almost completely removed carbs and lost 6 kg, I am not eating any processed food, I am eating all the recommended stuff (flax seed, avocado, salmon, hibiscus tea and so on), I sleep at least 8 hours, even tried accupunture. During the 2 first weeks of changes of my lifestyle, my BP got down to almost 120/75. But then it got back to 145/95 (ish) and seems stuck there. I can make it go down a little by doing breathing exercises before it take my BP, but this feels like cheating as it is not sustainable. At that point I am thinking of quiting all those changes and just not bother, take a pill, because obviously something is not working out right.

Hi. Just wondering how you're getting on three months later? I hope your BP has improved? I ask as I have just found I have high BP for the first time in my life - 151/92 and its freaked me out. I am blending fresh beets with an apple and some ginger daily in the hope that it will help and taking regular exercise. Would be interested to hear how you're getting on. All the best.

I'm 31 and started having BP issues when I was pregnant between late 2020 and 2021. I was given medication then, but discontinued a few months after giving birth, with my Doctor's approval of course. Since then I have been fine but I sometimes feel my BP going up, usually headache or dizziness. The thought of taking medication for the rest of my life freaks me out, but I will if I have to. Honestly, I have not been very active, gained some weight especially around my waist, I do not eat clean at all, and I am constantly stressing over things. I want to change all that because my baby needs his mum to be around a lot longer.

Hi, Dr. Khalid. I'm 65, and I just had a doctor's appointment (kinda felt that I may be dealing with a blood pressure issue, because of hearing pulsating squeeking sound in my ears while trying to sleep (BTW, my sleep has been horrible for 20+ year - averaging 3 hrs/24 hrs), and I becoming out of breath easily now over the past 5-6 months with some sporadic radiating pain in my chest), and after a run of 6 pressure tests, my BP came back at 185/119🫣. I have a very strong aversion to taking blood pressure medication, so I'd like to get this under control using plant-based food/supplements, by losing 20-30 pounds, and trying to exercise (Exercise has been a real problem for me, because of 20+ years of widespread body pain, extreme pain from nerve damage in my T5?/upper-middle back (I am on nasty meds for that 18+ yrs), and extreme pain in my toes when walking and even some when just laying a certain way). I understand that I could blow up at any time, so, if I found some way to exercise, what exercises would be safest at this point? I'm going back on Keto, because it seemed the best for me for losing weight, and I did have less of the widespread pain when I was on it. I'm going to be taking garlic oil, omega 3, and primrose oils, and ashwagandha, gaba, and L-Citrulline supplements. I would really appreciate your take on things, as I have very little confidence in my family doctor, and it's pretty near impossible to get a different one here, and my husband isn't keen on losing me yet. Thank you so much.

I have struggled with anxiety and panic attacks since I was 16 years old due to ptsd as a child. I try to reduce my anxiety as much as possible but it has never and I dont think will ever go away completely. I believe maybe it is contributing to my higher blood pressure? I do not go outside alot and it could possibly be that too. My question is if I can get it to normal levels again after diet and exercise for afew months or year.. can it stay normal forever then? is elevated/high blood pressure irreversible?

Someone that does not have high blood pressure sodium limits 2000 mg.

He's cut out coffee completely as off 4 months ago it took me ages to convince him these energy drinks he feels he needs because hes fatigued is making his problem worse. He barely eats bacon anymore maybe 1 a fortnight now he's drinking pomegranate juice and beetroot juice I've got him of deb potatoes and onto proper potatoes he eats greens he's taking L arginine, and hibiscus we tried vitamin d and magnesium both didn't help one bit we now have him booked into the dentist tomorrow as he's had black teeth for years which I'm wondering if it's causing his blood pressure to stay high. The Doc wanna put me on generic blood pressure medicine but I just don't like taking anything if it's not natural. I'm trying to figure out a way to lower without the medication. I'm 45 and I know I have to keep my blood in check. Also my head has been hurting for over a week. It feels like when I had covid but I had 2 covid test already and they both came back negative. Generally speaking, it takes time, and medications help lower your BP. Once you have progressed in weight loss/lifestyle measures and salt intake. Keep a diary of your BP and speak to your doctor. If it is in a good zone then the chance of it staying there once you stop meds is higher.

first get out of bed, my Grandmother died this way. I live near a medivac helicopter airport and nearly every morning, early (7am ish) they are up & flying transporting people
100 miles to a cardiac hospital.
