      I think part of the reason Kyrgios makes so many great plays is the fact the he presents as though it really doesn't matter to him so he can swing away freely without concern for the outcome. That can also work against him when it comes to battling someone with the heart that Federer consistently expresses. When facing a man of solid character a renegade tends to be put off their rhythm when faced with the question - who wants it more.

    When Kyrgios is in the zone the only thing you can do is get him to make unforced errors and get him frustrated. Cause when he is feeling it, his normal balls all hit like incredible serves themselves. And ironically, his own service it's like a machine. When he is feeling it, he returns an incredibly good serve with a return that's even faster and more dangerous.
    With Federer he doesn't have to complete at his peak feeling it, he can be mediocre and return most balls that aren't the dangerous ones. And after a while Kyrgios will get mad, take more risks, hate himself for it and instead of being content with playing longer rally's he goes ahead and still does his second serves like first ones, and doesn't block fast serves, but does the flick of the wrist.

    We will probably never see another beautiful single-handed backhand again. Roger said himself that if he had to learn tennis again he'd probably use a double-handed backhand.

    • @terrenceolivido741
      @terrenceolivido741 Місяць тому +2

      100% not true. the limitation of the backhand before was getting the weight and inertia of the wooden racket moving in time to contact the ball in front. i would more say that both styles will be used by the same player in the future depending on the situation. Federer proved that the one-handed backhand can do everything that the two can and it offers more reach and less energy consumption.

    • @abcxyz123
      @abcxyz123 Місяць тому +3

      @terrenceolivido741 100% true that Fed said that. I disagree that the one-handed backhand can do exactly what a double-handed backhand can on a consistent basis for individual players, same for the other way around. But I still believe one can be a top 5 player with a single handed backhand in the future. Anyway that's not what the og post was about.

    • @pinhe4d321
      @pinhe4d321 Місяць тому

      @@terrenceolivido741 Why are there only a few players in the first hundred with one handed backhand then, if it "can do everything that the two can and it offers more reach and less energy consumption." and causes wrist injuries?

    • @terrenceolivido741
      @terrenceolivido741 Місяць тому

      @@pinhe4d321 ok ...., the truth is the one-handed backhand will require 3 times more training time to master than the two. it is true that if you are young your body can withstand the extra work and stress of the two-hander . Federer proved what the one-hander can do in modern tennis. i have no problem using combinations of the two. what about a right handed and left handed forehand for that matter ( switch hands ) Monica Seles used a reverse grip on her backhand. she hit two handed from both sides. my main point is the one-hand backhand - while hardest to master - results in the most beautiful body positions. you can snear at that if you want. as far as you and your peers - you could ask - " if being smart were an advantage, how come me and my buddies out-reproduce everyone ? same point - though you will probably not be able to understand it.

    • @cldpt
      @cldpt Місяць тому

      @@terrenceolivido741 I think you guys both have good points but that this discussion is a lot more technical than even you guys got into. Let's agree that some sports simply have space for multiple styles. I personally LOVE me some reverse backhand penhold in table tennis, but that doesn't mean it is better than shakehand. Consistency probably is the most important trait of any sport. And a smidge of luck

    Guys like Karlovic and Isner were also hard to break on the fast surfaces and they also played a lot of tiebreakers.
    Most people think Kyrgios is a great talent, but playing umorthodox tennis doesn't mean that you are incredibly talented.
    In most cases it means that you don't have enough talent to win by "normal" tennis.

    Kyrgios played amazing but he was getting too nervous or playing with pressure. He was leading 8-5 in the tie breaker 💀

    at 4:16 the point should have gone to federer because before the second bounce Nick was already touching the net. And that was game point for Nick. Strange they didn't call it

      He touched the "doubles" side of the net. Rules say this doesn't make you lose the point in a singles match.
