This tutorial was incredibly well made and very easy to follow. I can't tell you how many different animation tutorials I've followed where I couldn't understand the how or the why someone was doing something in a frame, now I get it with the awesome breakdown you did and continuing to use the same terminology throughout. Great work, just for this you've earned my sub and bell!
Thanks so much! Since I don't have a huge time budget for these videos, I'm committed to recording them in one rolling take and without much of a script. This one took me a couple of sessions, as I wasn't happy with the first run, but I'm really glad people are responding well. It's very difficult to tell if I've missed anything or been inconsistent with my explanations, or too brief, during the recording. It's never perfect, but I'm really happy that the effort is being noticed.
@@AdamCYounis Totally agree w/ Night Basillisk - pixel art is a deep enough topic. Animation, yeah, is bonkers - often seems like magic there are so many overlapping disciplines and integrated stylistic approaches. Better to hear all the details and see it come to life. Insanely valuable.
I can only second your opinion. Adams entire Pixel Art Class is - in my humble opinion - the best series on its topic on youtube by a big margin. I can only say thank you!
Hi, I'm watching this three years in the future. I just wanted to say thank you. I'm trying to make a game of my own and pixel art has always been where my games have failed because I always told myself that I can't do art and couldn't find someone to help. This time, though, I'm determined to see it through and that means doing the art myself. I'm not great at it, but I've already learned a lot from videos like this. :)
Well, he is hoping you'll join his Patreon and give him money for his effort, let's not pretend he's 100% charitable. . . which he shouldn't be. If you're good at something, never do it for free.
I truly appreciate these longer almost-hour-long animation tutorials! It’s a great balance between those that pile loads of info in no time and are difficult to retain, and others that just go on for too long without giving enough of value. 🙏 I hope you keep em comin!
Man, I wish I’d seen this video before I did my attack animations. Oh well, at least I haven’t fully coloured and detailed them yet. So I won’t lose too much work. But I can definitely make them look better.
Really love how you go more in-depth than just pixel art (and most pixel art tutorials thus), and go into also all the game mechanics like cancels and inputs etc. One of the best PA channel out there!
I only found your videos yesterday, I just wanted to say I find your method of video production outstanding. Clear concise information presented in a digestible manor. Thank you
You have been one of the biggest inspirations for me to begin developing my own game! Ive never done coding before, but I used to do pixel art portraits and stuff when I was younger and I always enjoyed pixel art. Now here I am trying to learn how to code/use GMS so I can make my own metroidvania, and Ive used many of your animation tutorials as a guide!
My man you are a gift , you helped us so much to understand everything deeply from its origin, not typical 10 minutes UA-cam tutorials, in depth, clear , easy to understand, thank you
I have no idea how UA-cam knew I was getting into pixel art and therefore decided to recommend your content (over, say, anyone else's -- algorithm schmalgorithm), but I'm so _so_ happy I found you. I've been binging your vids and your gentle yet interdisciplinary and might I add noticably experienced approach is a total joy to watch. In this particular case, I've watched this and that explanation on animation techniques throughout the years, but I finally feel like it's all coming together in this one video. Stunning! The trick of tracking different body parts with different colours will help me so much. Thanks! Keep 'em coming, please. :)
This video is absolutely awesome. I'm just now getting into animations and seeing your method was at the same time mind blowing and it makes complete sense. It makes animations like this seem less daunting. Thank you!
What I'm doing isn't pixel art but I have no training at all in animation and after months of watching videos and reading about it, this is hands down the biggest help I've had so far. And a lot of your other videos look just as helpful. Thank you for making these.
This stuff was incredibly useful my guy thank you so much. Lots of the small ideas felt like common sense, something i might inherently understand but only subconsciously. The simple way you describe everything is really gonna help me organize my own work pipeline so i'm very grateful

I recently just got interested with pixel art because of Faketown and their create-to-own feature. So I'm really thankful that you made these videos. I've been watching a lot to learn and utilize it on the OG metaverse.

I'm extremely happy to have find you the same week i started making my own sprites on aseprite. I had no drawing or painting experience, only color theory i knew was from Color Theory classes in advertising college but mainly as a writer. But in two weeks i've been studying your tutorials and it helped me improve in ways i didn't imagine possible. Of course i don't have even 5% of your capacity but my sprites now seems like what they should instead of color blob squares. And i just wanna say, Thank you! You're an incredible artist.
I don't do pixel art, I dread having to animate anything but you just got a great vibe man. Dude i just found your channel in the last couple of days and i’m addicted. This video especially has been like watching magic. Is it your full time job? You’re just so incredibly good. I’m an aspiring game dev from a background of coding. Hope to make some little metroidvanias someday. You’ve helped find a good place to start. Perhaps the best vídeo I've never seen about animation, 2D development with sprites and I wanted to thank you for your effort in each video that you have done. I'm a new solo developer in Spain but I hope done my second short isometric game soon, I'll put you in my credits sure. Likes and suscribed to you, nice job from your new fan😁

I want to make mine but I just can't figure it out which size I have to use to my project (it would be a gif, actually but I would like to try these attack animation). Hope you can help me with that and congrats, I've been watching your videos a few days ago, thank you for taking the time to make this incredible tutorials. ♥
