My husband and I picked a travel trailer from the beginning for all the reasons you gave. We have been full-time for over a year and a half now and still love our trailer! Thanks for sticking up for trailer trailers!
This is hands down THE BEST TT vs. 5th wheel video I've seen. Thank you! I really appreciate how you covered the actual USE of the RV as a factor (others don't mention overhead clearance and driving on rough roads). We purchased our first little TT (21') two seasons ago and have already put almost 30k on it! So naturally we're now thinking of upgrading to something a bit larger, though we want to keep it as small as possible, since our favorite camping is boondocking. This next RV will be our final, so we want to get it right. Since we'll probably have to purchase another vehicle, we've been going back and forth between a TT and a 5th wheel. Your video brought up things we hadn't considered at all and helped us decide to go with a TT. Thank you!
I would say your title should be "better for us." You will find over the years that the way you camp and enjoy the outdoors will change. Every camper we have owned was perfect for us...at that time. At this time in our lives (add your ages together plus a few), our 35 foot Solitude and RAM dually are perfect for us now. Without a doubt, our boondocking is not what it was for our pop-up, hybrid, overlander or travel trailers, but these were all very conscious for us as we evolved from Scouts sleeping on bed rolls under the stars, through tents, pop-ups, a hybrid, travel trailers of many configurations (slide in at the same time of having two of those TTs), and our 5er in 2019. Your journey has been different, but nothing wrong figuring out what fits you best now and embracing that it will change. As always, safe journeys and enjoy the latest home!
Yeah you are probably right on the title. Life changes and your rigs can change easily as well. Still like the 5ver for a few reasons as well. Thanks for watching Rob.
Yes. 5th wheels will be more likely the choice when driving fulltime statically speaking. Just the build of them alone can handle cross country full time RV'ing. Truck bed rails are not a concern unless your lifted as their truck appears. Even so, you lower it similar to a standard dually height and it handles way better. My F350 dually sits perfect with any wobble or hills at stock height made for pulling 5 wheel, and also gives so much more control verse me towing any travel trailer, especially when up to over 35 feet. But to each their own. Did they say they use a dually? If not, then that's maybe why no so happy with the 5th wheel. 5th wheel and dually are like peanut butter & jelly... Lol .. God bless.
The right RV will depend on your use. I have owned 2 campers and 2 tung pull trailers before purchasing our 5th wheel. In each case, what we had was correct for our needs at the time. I'm now 72 years old and love our 5th wheel for the way we now camp. There is a good reason that so many different RV's are made.
You two are way too adorable. I found your video very helpful. You provided great info that we don’t get from the sales people. My wife and I were considering getting a fifth wheel in retirement (although I was not fully convinced due to the cost and size) but we recently decided against it altogether. The information you provided from your lived experience over years of living in a fifth wheel and other travel trailers has really helped me to know that we made the correct decision. Thank you so much for a great video and delivering it in such a relatable way. Would love to have you two as neighbours and friends.
I'm a 5th wheeler fan mainly for their spaciousness & relative tow-sturdiness, but you made good points to consider about height clearance & heat/cooling ease. Thanks for telling us about the weight-distribution hitch that makes trailers less of a bear to tow. If I can find a trailer that has the charm of a MinniePlus 5th (only 29ft), I would definitely consider it. Love 2 only need a 3/4 ton!
I pull my 38ft crossroads paradise point m38rd (16,200lbs gross but weighs in at 15,045lbs the way we have her loaded) with my 2003 silverado 2500hd lb7 duramax ccsb srw. It's a ¾ ton and you can't feel the trailer behind you except on really ungraded roads with lots of up and down motion, no trailer will escape that. Not even with a hitch air bag. I hauled it in 38mph cross winds last time and didn't even know it was windy until we got to a truck top with flags flying, we stepped out and said "goddammit, should we keep going" I figured I hadn't even felt it yet so why not? We never had an issue. Keep an eye on your gauges, keep an eye on your weather (use the app driveweather it has wind speeds for your trip, we paid for it after the tripping just mentioned). And keep an eye on the road and you'll be completely fine with a ¾ ton truck. Especially if youre buying newer. My only regret about my truck is not getting a long bed, as a full timer, the storage would be nice but my slider hitch makes up for the tight back ins.
If you do buy a weight distribution hitch I highly recommend the Pro Pride. It is fantastic. I learned about it from the Airstream boys. It is expensive but it is the best on eliminating sway. You mentioned putting a truck bed camper on your truck and then hauling the travel trailer behind it. I am fairly certain that that would overload your rear axle.
We went from a 30' TT to a 36' 5th wheel and love it although I do agree with you about the height and losing the bed of your truck. It really does depend on your style of camping. We just did a trip from California to Chicago and back with ours and the only thing that worried me was bridges once we got off the main highways. It was never an issue thank god but it could be. The one thing the 5th wheel for sure has in it's favor is how straight they tow and how little wind affects them compared to a TT. I had the equalizer anti sway and load leveling and it worked great but I could still feel the wind and wiggle from semi trucks. I could literally hold the wheel with 2 fingers with the 5th wheel and never worry. Nice video...
Yes, they all have an upside.. But as you know by now is the smallest size is everything for getting to the best location. The 18TO Trailer truly has the best floor plan with its very large slide and it's still smaller than most. Forest River junkie construction is another topic, but we found some of the best sites, that other only dream of... it's also a true1/2 Ton truck safe pull. We up the battery power, two 30 LP tanks and tires for a greater load limit capacity. Yes, living in mountains of the north west forest and rivers a smaller foot print opens the door to 110 % more adventures. The 18TO floor plan is truly awesome and we think it's the best for our want's and need's today. We injoy your adventures, thanks for sharing!
Totally agree, I love my travel trailer. I use my truck bed for multiple things when I travel, if I’m going to the beach then I usually haul my golf cart while towing my TT, if going to the lake I have a small boat I can carry on a rack above the truck bed when towing, I wouldn’t even consider a fifth wheel.
I agree with all you say about the 5th wheel , we started out camping in a tent, then pop up camper, then a motor home ,to 5th wheel, to a 28 ft. travel trailer, and by far we liked the travel trailer so much better, so I understand all you say about the 5th wheel, enjoy your T.T. Kids, and enjoy every minute .
I agree with what you say. No doubt a 5th wheel tows better on the freeway. We did the same as you. We bought a one ton truck for our travel trailer. I would not say it tows as stabile as a 5th wheel but it is pretty close. We try to avoid freeways as there is much more to see on secondary roads. We boon dock a lot. Our camping friends with a 5 th wheel have expearance all the negatives you mentioned when following us. But yes they tend to travel 5 mph faster than we on the freeway.
Very well done video - after much research, I see your points are so valid. I would add that with the newer high end travel trailers like from Grand Design, such trailers are now more competitive in terms of features with 5th Wheels.
I too have pulled all kinds of setups. I currently have a travel trailer. It’s only 20’ long but I’m a solo camper so it’s perfect for me. It’s a 2020 Kodiak 201qb and I can take it anywhere. I have a WDH and it tows beautifully. So, you won’t get any hate from me!🤣😂
Depends on what kind of RVing you plan on doing. Boon docking is way better suited for a TT but 5th wheels and TT both have advantages and disadvantages. Higher end 5th wheels like Grand Design for example are way better suited to full time RVing in more of a Glamping type of RVing. A 3/4 or 1 ton truck with a 5th wheel is much much more stable on the road in high wind situations, or any adverse driving conditions. To each his own, RV the way you want to do it, just be safe about it. know your trucks towing capabilities and your towing experience and don't exceed it.
We have owned both and we agree with you but would add: 5th wheel is easier to hook up and unhook for us. But we have a 30ft travel trailer and love it!!!
@@AdventureEndeavor we saw how you marked your bolts and thought what a good idea!!! We might have to try and mark it and see if that is easier 😀thanks for the tips!!!
I agree with all the pros you guys talked about. But, we just sold our 25’ TT last year and bought a 35’ 5ver earlier this year. I miss my truck bed and cap. I enjoy the huge windows and living space of the 5th wheel. Great show guys!
Well done guys. Have watched many vids on this toptic and this is by far the best. Your experience pulling 5th wheel and TTs is evident. Pull a 30’ TT with Ram 2500 gasser and WDH, very comfortable tow
Excellent points guys. We have owned both and currently are in another Fiver. There is a different stress level for sure. Thanks for sharing. Paul & Magen
Wow finally the straight forward video i was looking for. Omg i thought id never find it. Thank you so much your knowledge of the different types and how you broke it down was amazing. Great video !
We have been discussing going from a fifth wheel to a trailer and have a super set up now but the biggest issue is my wife is afraid to drive my dually 5th wheel setup. We love your new Imagine bunkhouse. We don’t boondock so many of your concerns don’t apply to us. Great content as usual and wishing you both a great new year.
They all really have pros and cons. A 5th wheel might be better for you Doug if you don't boondock. We didn't want to drive a dually either, thanks for watching.
You do make some good points, however, I still like the 5th wheel better because you can turn sharp in a 5th wheel and you're limited in a TT. Bucking side winds can be better in a 5th wheel. As you probably have gathered by now. I have owned both. But you do have valid points.
Thanks for the info we’re about to start our RV life. We do have four young kids, two dogs and a cat though lol. My wife and I are still an hour 30 so we want to do it while we’re young.
Hi I agree that the sway hitch is important investment I’m pulling the 2023 rockwood 2606ws with a 2022 f150 and love it. Plus another thing I don’t like about 5th wheel is it is like pulling a parachute air drag. The one thing I don’t like about pulling my trailer. Is if someone is trying to bother you while dry camping you have to get out to get to the truck vs class a or c you can just drive off. Happy camping fellow rvers.
Great points guys...I bought a travel trailer a year ago and am considering buying a RV for the towability. I think you guys just saved me a ton on money. Thank you!
Another person in agreement. As you noted by specific examples and I will generalize, even a whole lot of national forest campgrounds are limited with ANY fifth wheel. I also noticed you have a 30 foot travel trailer. Anything over that will sharply limit the number of campsites available to you in the US and most of those, the best ones imho. So, height, "bulkiness" and length are all factors. AND, now my wife has found a TT that checks all her boxes so we are good as soon as she retires...
I get your points I've had similar experiences as you mentioned. Right now have a 42ft 5er a d darn it's big, but comfortable lol. I really want to get a smaller pull behind for a second rv. For different access and maneuverability. Like having a Truck and a car.
Agree with TT. We've had both also. Love having a WD hitch, we have hit those winds on the 395 & 14 no problem + eliminates porpoising. Your idea of having a pop up truck camper along with TT is just what I would like to do.
So, First glade y’all have found what’s working for you. This 1st issue is y’all sound more like adventure folks and boodockers. Very cool. The need for a small trailer makes perfect sense. For certain, no grounds to have done a video for a TT being better than a 5th.
You guys are soooo right. I can't agree more on the clearance either. Oh and when you do purchase a weight distribution hitch, there are some wonderful ones out there with sway control built in. Thanks for the vid.
We have owned both BUT I very much liked the ease of hooking up the fifth-wheel better! We downsized from a Solitude 377MBS to the Imagine 22MLE and like it for all the reasons you mentioned but hate the hookup process.
We can agree with you on that one. 5th wheels are easy to hitchup. Do you happen to have a backup camera? If so add a white line where your coupler is, makes it very easy to hitch up.
@@AdventureEndeavor I drive a 2020 GMC Denali with all the cameras. The problem is unhooking when the truck/trailer is on a downward slope. Its hard to get the ball to release.
@@RVLifeWithTheMuirs I know it's been awhile since your comment, but I have seen people carry a couple 2x4 scrap pieces and drive their back truck wheels up on them to help with this problem when hauling their boats so might be helpful with your TT as well. Just a thought.
Ive had a TT and then 2 different 5th Wheels, and now another TT. From that experience which is pretty dang close to all of yours i will always prefer my TT over a 5er.
I'm a bit late to this one....However, I have to say drive a GMC 3500 turbo diesel every day. Its my haul vehicle and my grocery getter. Back and forth to work every day! I don't understand the problem, I guess its just preference....
A very nice thoughtful video with excellent points. I am on the front end of this deciding what size trailer and what size vehicle I want to tow it. I am leaning towards the smaller and more maneuverable trailers that can be pulled by an SUV. I will probably try to stay at 5000lbs or less. I like the idea of basing and then using an easily drivable SUV to see the local sites. The Mercedes GLE’s can tow up to 7200-7700 and that gives a lot of options below those numbers. I would be interested in what you liked about the shorter Nash versus the others including the 30 footer you have now.
We are in our 60s and really liked the idea of no stairs inside and we would have to gotten a bigger truck. We have an Imagine 2670 and it is great for us. We have an F150 with tow and trailer packages. A weight distribution hitch and 2 sway control bars make towing very stable except in higher wind conditions. Thanks for a good video with caveats that it works best for you!
Those junk flimsy Anderson hitches eat up a lot of bed space. The standard kingpin takes quite a bit as well. But if you go with a Gen-Y you still have a lot of space while hitched and a few seconds to pull the ball and you have a clear bed. Plus the fact that the ride is Way Better with the Gen-Y!!👍
True indeed. We decided a TT is the best option for us for now. Who knows, maybe we'll get another 5th wheel down the line. 😆 Glad you like your setup!! Thanks for watching Robert!
I had a smallish 5th wheel 30 ft…it alleviated most of your problems. That being said we have a 26ft Minilite travel trailer and we love it. Weight distribution hitch makes me feel so confident towing, it’s like the trailer is locked down on the ball and it stops sway. (Definitely get that hitch). Good luck it’s nice to see someone who doesn’t have a 40 ft 5th wheel on utube.
4 campers in 3 years? 😮 I’m on my 4th year in the same camper. Been thinking about getting a fifth wheel or toy hauler TT. I have a F250 7.3L gasser so it pulls my 4500 lb TT easily
@@AdventureEndeavor same here. now we will fultime in a grand design 315rlts travel trailer. same as a 5th wheel with no stairs. I love my capped 2500 cummins, love that it is white. same as yours but a 2020.
Great points! We have never own a fifth wheel. We thought it would be great for the extra storage and high ceilings, but the fifth wheel takes up too much room in the truck bed and the matter of clearance while towing are deal breakers.
@AdventureEndeavor Totally helpful... looking at the New 2024 Grand Design, Imagine XLS 23LDE now to purchase. Your feedback on 5th wheel vs tow behind was just what we needed to pick a direction. Have been back and forth on it, but the points you both made helped solve that issue. Thank you!
Good video! Had a bumper pull for over 20 years, just bought a 5th wheel. I really like my 5th wheel floor plan, but towing has been way worse than my bumper pull. why? it can be much more complicated to adjust a 5th wheel for a better tow/ride than a bumper pull. If the 5th wheel is not level, you will have a terrible ride - bucking and surging where ever there are non optimal road conditions; to correct that, you have to determine if there is room to raise or lower the 5W hitch and still have sufficient truck bed rail clearance. if you can't adjust the hitch, you have to raise the trailer, which requires a change or upgrade in the suspension and/or larger wheels/tires, which are more $$$. then when you still have bucking and surging, you look to replace the kingpin... more $$$. with a bumper pull and a quality weight distribution hitch, it is EASY to adjust the WD or ball height without spending more $$$; once set, hardly knew the trailer was back there, especially when towing with a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. note: more manufacturers are coming out with "flat" 5th wheel floor plans - same floor plan in either a bumper pull or 5th wheel.
Yeah layout is super important! Being able to use your rig with the slide in is key also. We really loved the layout of our 2910bh. Checkout our walk through video! ua-cam.com/video/a_GuWX4v1zU/v-deo.html
I all ways wanted to know they say fifth wheels have taller celling. Have you thought of putting a camera on the front of the trailer so you can watch where hitch is going?
you do not lose your truck bed with a fifth wheel. you would be amazed how much i can put in there while towing. in 20 years my 5er has never touched my truck bed. tip over? fix your contact area on your hitch, supseion on the trailer. as to over head my 5er is 12f 6 in high. never hut anything. but then i have been a class A driver for 40 years , so i kinda know what and how to drive. a fith wheel does not need a “fix” for safe towing. and in a panic stop the tt will try to pass you up or push you to the side of the rd. do to lifting up your rear end. a 5er adds weight to your trucks braking ability. snd does not need a “ fiz” to tow safely. but good on you for starting with a 3/4 ton. as 1.2 ton trucks are not ment for towing, or loading up.
I just trade in my Durango for the new F350. My current trailer is Winnebago Micro Minnie 2100BH which weight approximately 4500lbs and 500lb hitch weight. I assume probably I don't need the WDH anymore so that's great thing. But I do plan to get bigger travel trailer or fifth wheel in future. When considering hitching, is fifth wheel easier or travel trailer is easier? I have never done fifth wheel hitching before.
Personally I think they are the same. Just depends on the type of camping you plan on doing. We obviously went back to a TT and love it. But to each is own.
I’m now so confused! I just watched your video on shh 5th wheels are better. Help! We want to boondock a ton so feel like big water tanks would be great…but now the tree clearance is worrying me
Meh, can’t pull a second trailer behind a travel trailer. I have my bed fully loaded when I’m hooked to my 5er, just can’t have anything above to top of the bed rails. I put bigger stuff in the second trailer. I’ve never had clearance problems with bed rails hitting the 5er, make sure your pin box is on it lowest bolt holes.
That's a good point. How many states can you legally pull a second trailer? Length restrictions ect. Also our pin was adjusted correctly, thanks for the great comment.
Do you boondock? Go deep off grid? We have ran into SO MANY issues with our old 5th wheel. 5vers are great for having space going from RV park to RV park, just our .02. thanks for watching.
You have excessive weight with all that stuff in your flatbed, and a dangerous load capacity and safety issue to stick a truck camper on the back k of your truck while towing a travel trailer. All bad ideas. Also, you wouldn’t hit your bed rails if you had proper clearance.
I just watched an interesting video on weight distribution hitches. As I know you are thinking of installing one, I thought I would share this video with you. Perhaps you might want to consider upgrades to your frame's tongue prior since you boondock and do some off road camping with your rig. Thank you for all your content. I really enjoy your channel. Here is the video I am referring to: ua-cam.com/video/fHk5oThyHL8/v-deo.html
Wait a second… just my opinion. Your gonna have a bed camper and tow a TT behind it? Wouldn’t that be a lot of tongue weight??? I mean a lot!! What is your cargo capacity on your door sticker?
That's the plan Steve! I THINK we should be ok. Obviously we will confirm, our tongue weight is 720lbs and a four wheel camper weights 1k or less depending on the model. About 1k less than our carbons pin weight. 🤷♂️
@@AdventureEndeavor yeah a bed camper and a TT behind is going overload just about any truck properly outfitted or not… sorry man just not a big fan of that idea. I love my 5ver!!!
@@AdventureEndeavor When I was looking, the 3/4 ton Cummins trucks did not have great payload (~1800 lbs. in some cases). It pushed me to a 1 ton with 3,983 lbs of payload. What did you decide for yours?
I think our payload is around 2400 lb. We have not bought a camper yet. Strictly due to the cost. I think we will have enough room with the bumper pull on our cargo capacity
@@AdventureEndeavor I own a Jeep Wrangler and hit the trails a lot. One thing folks always do in the spring is trail maintenance to keep, the trails clear for vehicles. I see no reason why there would be a problem to clear the trees out above an RV. I’m sure they would reach that high. If they could, they just can’t with the average off-road vehicle.
Thanks for watching and the great input!
One of the best RV videos on UA-cam
Thank you, we appreciate you watching!
We still love ours as well
I agree with all you say about the 5th wheel , we started out camping in a tent, then pop up camper, then a motor home ,to 5th wheel, to a 28 ft. travel trailer, and by far we liked the travel trailer so much better, so I understand all you say about the 5th wheel, enjoy your T.T. Kids, and enjoy every minute .
Yeah, just seemed like the 5th wheel was more of a hassle in general. We can tow this TT anywhere. Thanks so much for watching!
Yeah, we really like our TT
Very well done video - after much research, I see your points are so valid. I would add that with the newer high end travel trailers like from Grand Design, such trailers are now more competitive in terms of features with 5th Wheels.
I agree. Our TT feels very roomy and had arched ceilings. Idk that we need a 5th wheel again.
I too have pulled all kinds of setups. I currently have a travel trailer. It’s only 20’ long but I’m a solo camper so it’s perfect for me. It’s a 2020 Kodiak 201qb and I can take it anywhere. I have a WDH and it tows beautifully. So, you won’t get any hate from me!🤣😂
Nice sounds like a great setup. We would have loved to be smaller but with one on the way this felt perfect.
We totally agree! This video has created a lot of great discussion. Happy new year!
We have owned both and we agree with you but would add: 5th wheel is easier to hook up and unhook for us. But we have a 30ft travel trailer and love it!!!
TT seems hood for us. Have you tried marking the trailers coupler with a paint pen? With white or yellow so it's easy to see?
@@AdventureEndeavor we saw how you marked your bolts and thought what a good idea!!! We might have to try and mark it and see if that is easier 😀thanks for the tips!!!
I think it will definitely help! Especially if you have a backup camera.
I agree with all the pros you guys talked about. But, we just sold our 25’ TT last year and bought a 35’ 5ver earlier this year. I miss my truck bed and cap. I enjoy the huge windows and living space of the 5th wheel. Great show guys!
Hey they all have pros and cons Alan. Just a few things we have learnt in the past few years, thanks for watching. Congrats on your new 5ver.
truck camper trumps both, had them all. love the truck camper life and freedom
They are great we borrowed one for a month. Now we have a little one though
Well done guys. Have watched many vids on this toptic and this is by far the best. Your experience pulling 5th wheel and TTs is evident. Pull a 30’ TT with Ram 2500 gasser and WDH, very comfortable tow
Thanks Sherrie! We do feel like we have a good grasp on the subject, we appreciate watching.
Excellent points guys. We have owned both and currently are in another Fiver. There is a different stress level for sure. Thanks for sharing. Paul & Magen
We totally agree they all have pros and cons! We liked bot but definitely a TT is for us
Wow finally the straight forward video i was looking for. Omg i thought id never find it. Thank you so much your knowledge of the different types and how you broke it down was amazing. Great video !
Glad you found it helpful, don't forget to subscribe and turn on notifications!
Odd you mention having truck bed as an advantage then the next topic is a truck bed camper? I totally agree with the cost associated with a 5th wheel
Makes sense for us!
Totally agree !! I have had both and love travel trailers 100% better. Great job as always we love the show !
Thanks guys we really appreciate you watching!
Agree on your points. We've found underpasses, power lines and campgrounds to be extremely bad as well.
Yeah its just not worth the stress and headache in our opinion.
@@AdventureEndeavor agree
You do make some good points, however, I still like the 5th wheel better because you can turn sharp in a 5th wheel and you're limited in a TT. Bucking side winds can be better in a 5th wheel. As you probably have gathered by now. I have owned both. But you do have valid points.
Yeah they both have pros and cons. We actually just added a truck camper as our separate office as well. Thanks for watching and commenting.👍
We purchased a 35 ft 5th wheel as our first..WHAT A EFFIN mistake!!! Cant wait to sell it and go with a TT..Great vid
Thanks for watching!
Another excellent video - you have experience with many different rigs! so very informative.
Thanks, glad you fought helpful.
Thanks for the info we’re about to start our RV life. We do have four young kids, two dogs and a cat though lol. My wife and I are still an hour 30 so we want to do it while we’re young.
Might as well retirement is not guaranteed!

You guys made it a lot easier for me to decide
Glad you found it helpful! Dummy further to subscribe and turn on notifications!
Yeah they all have pros and cons. We are pretty happy with our TT for the time being
@@AdventureEndeavor thanks for getting back to me.!
Of course!
We had 2 travel trailers before we got the 5th wheel. We love it, but we wouldn’t boo do here much in it. Happy New year!
They all have pros and cons really! Happy New Year!
I always thought 5th wheels were better, especially because I am 6 foot 5. But you did bring up a lot of good points.
They definitely have some great pros. It really comes down to how you plan on camping.
Look for brands that have arched ceilings at your height. Outdoors RV is one that comes to mind. They also make a very, very sturdy TT.
Yeah outdoors is a great company.
Great points guys...I bought a travel trailer a year ago and am considering buying a RV for the towability. I think you guys just saved me a ton on money. Thank you!
That's great to hear! They all have pros and cons but saving money is great .
Agreed. Still love our TT
Thank you for sharing your experiences!
You are welcome thanks for watching, hopefully you enjoyed it.
I get your points I've had similar experiences as you mentioned. Right now have a 42ft 5er a d darn it's big, but comfortable lol. I really want to get a smaller pull behind for a second rv. For different access and maneuverability. Like having a Truck and a car.
Yeah thats a big rig! Having two options would be great as well, depending on the trip! Thanks Jim
Agree with TT. We've had both also. Love having a WD hitch, we have hit those winds on the 395 & 14 no problem + eliminates porpoising. Your idea of having a pop up truck camper along with TT is just what I would like to do.
We agree. We are excited to share our WDH with everyone, coming soon! We hope to get a pop up at some point!
So, First glade y’all have found what’s working for you. This 1st issue is y’all sound more like adventure folks and boodockers. Very cool. The need for a small trailer makes perfect sense. For certain, no grounds to have done a video for a TT being better than a 5th.
Yeah we boondock a lot. We felt like doing a comparison video. Many people have found it helpful
You guys are soooo right. I can't agree more on the clearance either. Oh and when you do purchase a weight distribution hitch, there are some wonderful ones out there with sway control built in. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for watching. We got a WDH , video coming soon!
I’m sold on TT’s. Good thing I didn’t pull the trigger on the fifth wheel
Same here, we have since gotten another!
Great video. Answered all my questions. Thanks for sharing
Hey thanks for watching, glad you found it helpful.
Good information and perspective. Thanks
Thanks for watching glad you found it helpful.
Great video, Thanks for taking the time!
Thanks for watching
Oh thats weird we haven't really had that issue yet!
Yeah, we are still in a TT and love it. We added a small pop up truck camper as storage and an office.
I'm a bit late to this one....However, I have to say drive a GMC 3500 turbo diesel every day. Its my haul vehicle and my grocery getter. Back and forth to work every day! I don't understand the problem, I guess its just preference....
Totally. We have our 2500 because it's paid off and don't want to upgrade at the moment. Totally preference.
@@AdventureEndeavor Ahh ...indeed, paid off is a beautiful thing..!!👍👍
Thanks!
@Sean2002FU our thoughts exactly!
The smaller the better imo. We are fulltime and you typically collect more stuff if you have the space. Layout is key, then build quality imo.
With a short wheelbase on the GLE, the smaller the trailer the better. Maybe even a pop up.
Great video guys! TT the best
We love ours
Great info and from experience. Well done.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, they all have pros and cons. We have finally found what works for us.
That's great and the key, you have to get what works for you. We have realized that a good TT makes more sense. Thanks for watching James!
Yeah the gen Y seems really nice. We had a B&W as well but still took a lot of space. Still no pop up camper with any style 5th wheel though.
Thanks for your valuable insight!
Glad. You found it helpful.
Everyone has their own a pinyin. Its 5er for us. We boondock all the time over 35 year's.
True indeed. We decided a TT is the best option for us for now. Who knows, maybe we'll get another 5th wheel down the line. 😆 Glad you like your setup!! Thanks for watching Robert!
Totally agree Robert! You 100% can boondock with a 5ver it can just get a little bit limiting at times. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the information great job
Thanks for watching.
Thank you!!
You are welcome. Glad you found it helpful. We appreciate if you had subscribed and follow along. Also, if you have any questions please let us know
Could never pull the trigger on 5th wheel for all the reasons you pointed out
We thought the same but were kind of talked into it. Now we really like the TT for obvious reasons.
Thank you very good points
Glad you found it helpful!
Thank you for sharing
We want to upgrade to a fifth wheel but height has always being my concern.
You are welcome, they all have pros and cons. We just feel like a TT fits us better.
Thank you for the great information
Thanks for watching.
I knew i saw a baby bump in the last vid! Congrats
Thanks Anthony! We did an announcement video earlier!
Get a hensley arrow hitch, hands down better than a weight distributor.
We've heard great things. Honestly, we feel like our toes fine now that we have it set up with an Anderson hitch
Always great info, Merry Christmas
Thanks Danny! Mostly our opinion but good stuff to think about.
Haha thanks for the great comment. Still working well for us
4 campers in 3 years? 😮 I’m on my 4th year in the same camper. Been thinking about getting a fifth wheel or toy hauler TT. I have a F250 7.3L gasser so it pulls my 4500 lb TT easily
Yep, it took us a little while to figure out, but we're very happy now and we believe a travel trailer is the right choice for us
I agree 100%
Great video
Thanks Mark! We thought otherwise and we're kind of talked into a 5th wheel. Now we love our TT, pros and cons. Thanks for watching.
@@AdventureEndeavor same here. now we will fultime in a grand design 315rlts travel trailer. same as a 5th wheel with no stairs. I love my capped 2500 cummins, love that it is white. same as yours but a 2020.
Sounds like a great combo! Do you have a WDH? We just installed one and are excited to share the video!
@@AdventureEndeavor Yes, our hitch weight is 1100lbs. Heavy travel trailer. 38ft.
Holds a lot of water too.
Very nice!
Nice video. What was I thinking? I was considering a $70k 5th wheel when I already have a paid for 30' TT. I think I'll save my money.
I would, they all have pros and cons but we really like our TT.
Great points! We have never own a fifth wheel. We thought it would be great for the extra storage and high ceilings, but the fifth wheel takes up too much room in the truck bed and the matter of clearance while towing are deal breakers.
Yeah we thought the same. Also the newer TTs have arched ceilings which is great!
Another great video I enjoy all your videos safe travels
Thanks mark!
Are you still in the Imagine in 2024?
Great overview...
Super good feedback!
Yup we are still in the imagine! Half you found it helpful!
@AdventureEndeavor
Totally helpful... looking at the New 2024 Grand Design, Imagine XLS 23LDE now to purchase.
They all have pros and cons. TTS seem to be more entry level in general
We know the truck camper remains #1
Hey we really enjoyed the truck camper life! Just a little small for 2 dogs and our baby that's on the way. Thanks for watching.
In your experience is travel trailer interior layout very important? Saw yours was front bedroom.
Maybe a short video on your favorite layout?
Yeah layout is super important! Being able to use your rig with the slide in is key also. We really loved the layout of our 2910bh. Checkout our walk through video!
ua-cam.com/video/a_GuWX4v1zU/v-deo.html
I all ways wanted to know they say fifth wheels have taller celling. Have you thought of putting a camera on the front of the trailer so you can watch where hitch is going?
We haven't thought about the camera idea. Might have to look into that!
you do not lose your truck bed with a fifth wheel.
you would be amazed how much i can put in there while towing.
in 20 years my 5er has never touched my truck bed.
tip over? fix your contact area on your hitch, supseion on the trailer.
as to over head my 5er is 12f 6 in high. never hut anything.
but then i have been a class A driver for 40 years , so i kinda know what and how to drive.
a fith wheel does not need a “fix” for safe towing.
and in a panic stop the tt will try to pass you up or push you to the side of the rd. do to lifting up your rear end.
a 5er adds weight to your trucks braking ability.
snd does not need a “ fiz” to tow safely.
but good on you for starting with a 3/4 ton. as 1.2 ton trucks are not ment for towing, or loading up.
To each is own, good insight, thanks for watching.
Good review and balanced perspective. But..you haven’t done the East Coast yet. Next time. HNY.
We have done new England! In our first 5ver. Thanks for watching bob!👍
Lotsta good points. I'm glad I'm going with the 2910bh.
Curious why you went with a bunk model for a couples camper though?
We were pregnant when we picked this model, still in it 2v years later and full-time
@@AdventureEndeavor Noice! I was gonna ask if maybe you had a bun in the oven or something.😁
👍😉
@@AdventureEndeavor Congratulations!!
Good info guys i have a travel trailer and wanted to know if yall got a good deal on yours and if you don't mind telling us the price you paid thanks
Thanks for watching, it's hard to say about the price it really depends where you plan on buying?
I just trade in my Durango for the new F350. My current trailer is Winnebago Micro Minnie 2100BH which weight approximately 4500lbs and 500lb hitch weight. I assume probably I don't need the WDH anymore so that's great thing. But I do plan to get bigger travel trailer or fifth wheel in future. When considering hitching, is fifth wheel easier or travel trailer is easier? I have never done fifth wheel hitching before.
Personally I think they are the same. Just depends on the type of camping you plan on doing. We obviously went back to a TT and love it. But to each is own.
How tall is your new rig? Our truck camper was 10' 4" now with our roof rack storage we're nearly 12'6". Huge increase!
Our grand design is 11'2 not too bad. Much better than our 5th wheel.
@@AdventureEndeavor interior hieght?
Interior height is 6'9“
I’m now so confused! I just watched your video on shh 5th wheels are better. Help! We want to boondock a ton so feel like big water tanks would be great…but now the tree clearance is worrying me
They all have pros and cons! I would look at outdoors RV, Nash or Artic Fox. They have large tanks in well insulated TTs.
I Like A Airstream Most Are under 10 Foot Tall
They are beautiful trailers! Our good friends have one and love it!
@@AdventureEndeavor you can pull doubles in all states with a CDL as long as lead trailer is a 5th wheel.
No length restrictions?
@@AdventureEndeavor of course, you have to comply with length restrictions just like semi trucks.
Do yourselves a favor don't waste your time get a Hensley hitch best thing I ever did twice!!
Possibly so far we have no issues with our Anderson weight distribution hitch. Although we've only towed, probably 2,000 miles. There's for the tip
Ba ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ...TT better than a 5th wheel !! Ba ha ha ha ha ha
Do you boondock? Go deep off grid? We have ran into SO MANY issues with our old 5th wheel. 5vers are great for having space going from RV park to RV park, just our .02. thanks for watching.
Sounds like you want to fill up the truck bed that you wanted for space🥴
We now have a pop up truck camper that we use as a office it works perfectly.
ua-cam.com/video/80Ibh_PpSoU/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Raised truck. Complains about contact. Come on guys.
It's raised one inch in the rear. Also having a raised truck is required to get to the boondocking locations we like to visit.
Your still young, wait about 30 years
To want a 5ver? We have had both, all rigs have pros and cons. Thanks for watching Robert.
You have excessive weight with all that stuff in your flatbed, and a dangerous load capacity and safety issue to stick a truck camper on the back k of your truck while towing a travel trailer. All bad ideas. Also, you wouldn’t hit your bed rails if you had proper clearance.
We actually just bought a pop up truck camper and are good on our weight. But the pop ups are very light, setup works well for us.
Get a Blue Ox
The Andersen was Great. Thanks for the tip though
Here is the video I am referring to:
ua-cam.com/video/fHk5oThyHL8/v-deo.html
Thanks for the link Steven we will check it out!
Copy that, obviously we will confirm all of the weights. Just our initial thought. We loved our 5ver for certain reasons as well.
Get a chainsaw!
Possibly idk if you are supposed to be cutting trees in the forest...
@@AdventureEndeavor I own a Jeep Wrangler and hit the trails a lot. One thing folks always do in the spring is trail maintenance to keep, the trails clear for vehicles.
