There's just no reason for it realistically, especially in the US. Provided it is a different story south of the American border. Rarely do local police agencies tackle menacing and vengeful criminal organizations like cartels that would actually go out of their way to spite and ruin the private lives of officers involved. Most organized crime groups stray away from engaging or antagonizing any law enforcement because it's counter-productive to what they want to accomplish; that being a low profile of their criminal enterprise that does not attract or garner police attention so their scheme remains profitable and sustainable. Going after police officers or agents, or their families, would just bring the heat on more and throw a wrench in the fine-tuned machinery. Also, from my understanding, some specialist police units in Europe use balaclavas as a psychological tool more so than an identity protection measure. There's something terrifying about heavily armed government men with their faces obstructed coming after you in the early hours of the day.
