Hey, Chef Johnny. Just got done making and eating carne guissada. I followed your instructions, but I did change a couple of things.
1st, I used my new Instant Pot and used the slow cook option.
2nd, I browned the meat before placing it in the Pot.
A couple of things that I will do next time is to cut the meat and the bell pepper a bit smaller and add more chili. I will most likely use a can of Rotel Hot instead of the tomato paste, just to get it spicier. The flour idea was great, it thickened it perfectly.
Overall, it came out delicious, and it was extremely easy to make.
Greatly appreciate your video. Thank you.

Thanks so much for this great recipe. Put it together last night and it came out great. For a different twist, I added 1 pound of fresh chorizo. Your one badass Mexican lol My dad was a single father off 3 girls and he would cook for us and make fresh tortillas. The kitchen was small so he would ask us to set the table or do something else so we wouldnt be in the way. But we would still sneek into the kitchen and steal a tortilla off the grittle. I would have to cool it down just like you did. Ahh the good old days. Now my Dad is 72 yrs old and has Parkinsons, now its my turn to take care of him. Thank your for the recipe. Will be preparing it for the Fam. God Bless and Be well. ❤

Thumbs up Johnny. Looks like an easy way to make carne guisada. I know what you mean on the Knorrs. I use a lot of Caldo de Pollo powder in my cooking and can't tell you how many times I have over salted with it. I now just use the Knorrs Caldo de Pollo in place of salt in a lot of recipes. Sure you can skip the bay leaves. But what they add to the dish is a deep underlying flavor. Early on it is a stronger flavor as the leaves steep in the sauce they change they mellow and and give a nice earthy flavor. Thanks for watching and the commdent

My sons are getting this next Christmas when they visit . I am making refried beans and thankfully we have great fresh local tortillas since I live in a Texas barrio. I'm serving ours as burritos with melted cheddar on top and the guisada gravy My daughter is on keto so I'm looking for a thickener alternative to make her a keto batch to eat with salad. Anyone know what to use in place of flour for her?

Question. While its stewing in the crock pot do you open it up and stir it from time to time or do you just let it sit as is all night during the cooking process?

    • @TexasStyleCuisine

Usually it is not opened. I will stir it the next morning. If cooking during the day I will smoke it now and then

What can I substitute for the tomato buillon w/ chicken? I live in Indiana and I’ve been unable to find the tomato bouillon w/ chicken here. Can I use a regular Knorr brand chicken bouillon cube? If so, how many should I use?

Dang you sure know how to hurt a guy. I'm a displaced Texan in LA and these boys out here hadn't figured out how to make good Tex-Mex. When we lived in the Corpus are (Portland) we had a little place called Fiesta and it was all homemade stuff. They had the best Carne Guisada in town and the morning Taco's were like yours. I am headed home for a couple of weeks to Houston and I will have some of that good food that I have seen you cook. Glad I found you. Now do a really good Chicken Fried Steak or tell me where to find your recipe. Thanks for the Show. Jim.
