Let’s just start saying Tejano. Tex Mex just makes it seem like our cuisine is Americanized Mexican food when that’s not the case. We Tejanos have a culture too that people forget about. The New Mexicans who are Hispanos like us take pride in their cuisine and nobody makes it seem like New Mexican Hispano cuisine is Americanized Mexican food

Just finished making it according to your recipe and directions. It’s fire 🔥 10/10 would recommend. I’ve tried making it before with an instant pot recipe. It didn’t turn out how I wanted it to. I followed your instructions and did it on the stove and it’s so good restaurant quality. Thank you! It’s exactly what we need for this fall weather. 💙

I never comment on anything but this recipe is so worth it! Im married to a middle easter man that is not a huge fan of mexican food. Hes super picky. And not to mention im not that good at cooking. I made this recipe for him a couple of weeks ago and he said he really liked it (i didnt believe him) but today he requested it again! So okok i believe him now lol. Im glad i finally found a mexican dish that he really enjoys! As far as my personal opinion, I love the flavor and how tender it comes out. Thank you so much for sharing!

I live in north Louisiana and there is a Mexican restaurant on almost every corner which I am so thankful for! But, only one that I know of so far that has carne guisada on the menu. I found it kinda by mistake. I had no idea what I was ordering but wanted something different from anything else I had ever ordered before. The waitress recommended it and I haven’t ordered anything else since. The cook puts a green sauce which I think is salsa verde on his carne guisada. It’s very delicious! I would like to make my own just to see what it taste like. This recipe looks easy to me. I have been cooking since I was 13 and I’m 61 now! So I do have experience. Just not with Mexican food. I don’t have an ounce of Mexican in me but I crave the food all the time! My husband swears I’m Mexican bc if my craving for the food. Thank you so much for this recipe! I’ve been wondering how to make it! Yay now I know

I lived on Pete AFB in Colorado, huge Hispanic community there. I moved from San Antonio and I got there, same response. Couldn't find it anywhere and no one ever heard of it. So I started making myself and that was in 2008. They only know carne asada.

I think it just isn't "Mexican" enough for Americans. When they go to a Mexican restaurant, they want Tex Mex (That's what most Americans think of as Mexican) really and they want things they recognize like the more popular dishes. This is a great dish that I often make but I think for most Americans, it just isn't Mexican. We're learning though!!! LOL

I learned about Carne Guisada when I was in the Air Force at Lackland AFB San Antonio. I LOVED it. Used to get a couple of them almost every morning for breakfast on a flour tortilla from Rosa's Cantina.
Problem is, that since then, I've been searching for a restaurant that serves them here in Arkansas. I just get looks like I've got three heads when I ask if they have them on the menu.

I'm originally from Jalisco Mexico. My wife is Filipina. I lived much of my life in Southern California. Much of the food there is from central to southern Mexico. Once you go east a little bit south of the border to Mexicali and San Luis Rio Colorado, you start seeing the northern Mexico influence. We didn't have carne guisada. I'm now 64 years old and have never tasted it. We have similar things but not this. We recently moved to San Antonio Texas where I have family in Cedar Park and San Antonio. This dish is delicious. It has that southern gravy like with a Mexican influence as well. Growing up we had a lot of Chile Con Carne, Mexican style, diced beef, not ground, no beans, that was on the side. That is about as close as I tasted to carne guisada. We used to have a catering business. Our oldest son is now a professional chef, in Spain for now. I seen other videos where they use chicken instead of beef. I also like your "better than bouillon," base, it doesn't have MSG like bouillon does. Thank you for sharing your recipe.

Hello , all I got to say is that looks Super Good & Super Yummy.
I'm originally from San Anto210, TX & both my mom & grandmother used to make Carne Guisada all the time for us & the family.
Well now that I live in Oregon ...there is NO such thing as Carne Guisada here, they look at me like I'm from another planet or something everytime I try asking looking around for Carne Guisada .
So I just gave up & decided to start watching UA-cam videos to start making it on my own.
Definitly going to try this recipe & Thanks .

We live in Harlingen, TX which is primarily Hispanic culture but for some reason no one has ever answered me when I ask what kind of meat. They just look at me like I'm crazy, so thank you for answering the question I've had for years now. When you look at recipes online, you get so many different answers so I'm glad I found your video.

When buying stew meat..generally it a combination of meat..top round..bottom round..chuck..sirloin..shoulder..its the pieces left over after steaks or roasts have been cut of a particular slab of meat...best to buy roasts and cut up yourself..then you can control the fat...chuck roast and chuck shoulder roasts have its own flavor that imo tastes good..

Just made this I just didn’t have bell peppers so I made it without it and I only had beef bouillon I currently have it cooking with the lid on imma come back and check it on an hour. 1st time making this I attempted to follow someone else’s recipe and it didn’t taste anything like I know carne guisada taste like this one so far does. While it cooks on medium ( edit I actually ended up adding 1/2 cup of water as the water was drying out fast I also lowered the heat to low) imma make my flour tortillas from scratch 😊 I have my red Mexican rice going too can’t forget the jalapeño on top of the rice as well ♥️ I’ll come back to update I’m super excited for this dish thank you for sharing ❤

I think it's the comino, garlic and onion aroma that reminds me of when my mother would cook for us. It's a very comforting aroma! I've never used beef bouillon in my recipe -- will try it to see what flavor it adds to it. I also sometimes skip the tomato sauce, or put in very little, because I prefer the brown based gravy versus the reddish gravy. It took me a long time to perfect my recipe, but I still like trying other versions. I even tried Bolner's Fiesta Carne Guisada seasoning -- it was ok -- too much of a bell pepper flavor for me and not enough garlic flavor. Subscribing to catch your videos now! Thanks!

Absolutely delicious! I had hamburger I had to use up, so I just made hamburger patties and cooked them. I then followed the rest of the recipe exactly as written. The burgers were so tender and delicious after simmering in the gravy/sauce. It totally reminded of a amazing pepper steak gravy.

Wonderful recipe! I’m vegan so I modified the meat and used no beef base from better than bouillon. Cooking time cut way down obviously and it was soooo delish! Thank you “prima”!

Thanks for making a wonderful dish so easy. I grew up in Northern Ohio with none of these dishes. I Moved to Texas in 1984. My son was 7 ears old. We did not eat anything spicey hot. By the time he was a teenager he was putting cayenne pepper on his popcorn. We were introduced to these culinary delights by neighbors in our first apartment here. I could not believe what I was missing. We did enjoy biscuits and gravy, fried chicken and other country fair as my Mom was straight off the farm in Indiana. Thanks for this, I look forward to making it.

My mom alway made this chopped pork steak meat carne guisada stuff with tomato paste or sauce . I wish I had watched her make it , it was my favorite along with her rice but she took it to her grave unfortunately with all the other great Mexican , not Tex mex but real Mexican food recipes . That girl could cook . Even her thanksgiving dinner ruled . Can’t find nothing close . Even her pies , she always made me rhubarb pie , every slice perfect. God I miss my parents . Do you know what it may be with pork steak . I haven’t watched the rice video yet but it looked like my moms . I never seen or tasted real Mexican food like hers ever especially her Spanish rice . Funny thing is my mother was Irish but learn from my farther’s mom that didn’t even speak English . Thanks for making hungry and reminiscing the good old days . I’m not that bad of a cook my self and will be enjoying your culinary skills and art . I’m going to put me on some weight .

I absolutely love carne guisada ! Hands down the best Mexican food ever !
I make mine with deer meat, and I serve it with mashed potatoes.
You can’t even tell it’s deer, and everyone here gobbles it up.
I also love to have the left overs in good home made tortillas, but I have to buy those from the nice lady down the street because I can’t make tortillas. I have tried, but they are not good lol.
    Awesome recipe.
