@NativeFarang Yes if you want to live like a pauper in bkk, you can... lolol. But that's not a quality lifestyle. You might be poor and fine with that, but remember the average Thai worker is making around 25k to 30k usd. But they eat out ALL the time, so there goes a quarter of their salary...
@@taccntb4345 I recommend that you check your facts, an average Thai worker makes no where near 30k USD.. that's a higher wage than the average in the UK which is classed as one of the most wealthiest 😂 Eating out isn't that expensive, a meal can cost $1-1.50 on the streets. Sometimes it costs more to cook, but it's also part of culture to eat out. Also Bangkok is a capital city, of course it's going to be more expensive than most of Thailand, anyone would be a fool to think otherwise. Try living in London or Paris for cheap..

I was working in Chonburi for 14 years. I was still hitting the malls, restaurants and “fashion conscious”. Now that I am retired in the countryside of Isaan, no temptation to be “fashion conscious”, having the latest gadgets or visiting the nearest mall (40 minutes away). It’s nice to be away from the materialistic rat race and enjoy nature and work on my tropical garden. ( plus I am now antisocial 555) I agree with you two, you’re not poor but have proven that you don’t need to live a consumer life gathering unnecessary items advertised on billboards, the internet and TV. ( Surprised your grocery bill once a month is only 2000-3000 with kids. That’s amazing) You’re showing the young generation how to live reasonably. Good realistic video about “normal Thais”. Many valid points were made. -btw No family members or Thai neighbors to watch the kids for a few hours each day?

And I actually have more peace and feel much lighter breaking the chains of being addicted to status and consumerism. I do treat myself once in a while but for example if I buy new artical of clothing, I give away a artical of clothing (I remember giving away to goodwill bags of clothes I rarely ever wore By the way, I'm 58 going on 59. As a single I need around 750 euros/30,000 baht a month, my car is 25 years old and I live rent-free. I am retired and my German pension goes into my Thai account without any deductions. some chickens and cats enrich my life. I also get some money a month from my ex so that I can take care of his property and animals since he doesn't live in Thailand. My life is good, even with private health insurance.

Live small and dream big is the way to go. Love Thailand. We live in Rayong and our electricity bill is 800THB per month. The wife and daughters food spend per month 4,000 per month. Daughter 6, goes to a dual language school is around 50k per year. My wife loves the local food markets. My budget is different although I don't drink or smoke. People here on a retirement need to bring in 66,000 per month to maintain our visa status. Plus I need private health insurance. Owning your own property and car is a massive saving. I'm a massive minimalist don't own a pair of shoes, trainers, socks, trousers, jacket, tie or suit. Stay strong first year is not easy. Great content

You are dong so well. I have been living with my Thai in laws 8 people in a small Thai house in a rural villiage 30 kms from Kalasin for the last 5 years. Before this I ran a business in Bangkok for 13 years ...even so the transition to rural Thai life was hard. Big respect to you for following your dreams particularly with two young kids, good luck to you both.

I have a very decent retirement income and want to retire (for around 6 a 8 months pa) to the North, Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai, whilst retaining my U.K. home and roots, and your lifestyle shows this is perfectly realistic. You are both quite right. You could even live outside of Pattaya for 20K easily. One bed condo and eating healthy Thai food. If you want to eat in western type restaurants and drink in soi 6 every night then you will be back in the UK pretty quickly.

We live up in Issan in a village. Have our own house which is paid for. Easily can live for 4-5K per week. However if we go on a road trip, holidays, buy stuff outside the households, then we spend more. Pickup is 15 years old with very low kms as I spent alot of time abroad in the UK and its really cheap to insure and tax. So can live very cheap. UK full pension is £800 pm which is double what we spend... So rather than freezing in the UK with high bills, council tax, etc, sell everything and come and retire in Thailand!

Me and the wife are planning for 30K a month, but will probably be less than that. We just feel its better to plan for more than what you need. But then again we have some time left before we can move, as we are waiting for my wife and stepson to get citizenship in Norway first. Just so he can choose where he wants to live.
Medicine.. I take 1 ea 2 x a day = in US 120 for 60 days$1069.50 USD for two months. Same bought here 120 for 60 days @ $424.00 USD (14,000 Thai baht). for two months. This is one heart medicine…

A bit of everything really, we have banana trees, mango, rambutan, avocado etc and different vegetables and herbs. Just planting things as we go along and seeing what does well 😊
Hi I live in Jomtien and me and my partner live off 24,000b per month. Out of that we pay rent, electricity, water, gasoline (for 2 motorcycles), laundry and all our toiletries and food. We cook at home most of the time but enjoy a meal out 1 or 2 times a month. Neither of us drink or smoke. It's still a great life and far better than the UK.
This month was only 1300 so we can cut down when we need to 😅 We just have the aircon and TV on most of the time for the kids 😅 But we don't live on much at all and we're happy with that!

Good video! Live on local produce, cook at home as much as possible, and keeping a vege garden will bring your cost down, and most of all, it is a healthy lifestyle. The occasional visit to a nice restaurant is a nice treat. Our biggest expense is utility cost during the hotter months and prescription medications, the rest of the costs are very much manageable.
Exactly! That's how we're trying to do it and we're more than happy with that 😊 Obviously there are lots of variables to each individual but on the whole Thailand is a very affordable place to live 🙏

Pay only 30 baht. All necessary vaccines for children according to age are free. And finding a doctor at a clinic in the case of ordinary illness You can walk in when the doctor's clinic is open. The cost of medicines and doctor's visits is higher than in public hospitals, but compared to the UK, it's just under £30 per for doctor visit and medicine. As for medicines that are necessary for use within the home, such as paracetamol, diarrhea medicine, dysentery, constipation, cough medicine, medicine for children, you can buy them at the pharmacy. Because there will be a pharmacist controlling every store.
Minimum wage in Thailand is about 10k Baut. We live very cheap. Street food meals about 60 to 100 baut per meal. Home is paid for, so no rent. We paid about a million baut for our home in Isaan on half Rai. We have a pond for fish and a lot of chickens and ducks. Expensive part is that 800k you got to keep in the bank for visa and medical insurance. You are doing very good living the dream life. Good Luck

Can you get the provincial authority to have the driveway paved so that you don’t have through the muddy path each time it rains. The village chief should be informed and it’s his duty to improve the condition of the village. Happen to my Thai friend’s village in Laem Thong many years ago. The path leading to the village was muddy when rain & dusty when dry. It’s all pave up now. I am from Singapore.
I guess it's something we could look into, perhaps in the future. For now it doesn't bother us too much, there's only 4 or 5 houses on our road and we're the last house so it isn't too busy 😊

Hey... I'll be back in Thailand at the end of November for just over a month (from a small village near Preston but lived in Aus tor 20+ years)... In my home town UK people live on tight budgets, rarely eat out, etc. - I worked 60hr weeks mon-sat for 160 quid back in '99 but tripled my income when I moved to Sydney, although scary and I was literally broke by the time I earned my 1st wage... Now 24 years on, I bought a small 2 bed unit here, and a 1 bed condo in Jomtien... have some savings but not enough.... I agree Thailand can be cheap to live, especially outside of tourism areas, although as per a couple of other comments there are caveats.... health is a big one... insurance, especially with underlying medical conditions which happen to the best of us, alongside medicine costs... I only get to spend up to around 3-5 weeks in my place there at a time, 3-4 times a year but while there I'm usually on a budget / careful to spend but I do cook at home a bit... not having transport I rely a bit too much on 7elevens or the markets within walking distance which have premium prices - I did have ebike plans but tore my rotator cuff setting up the brakes (now needs surgery which I can't afford!)... pad krapao, khao pad, khao man gai, etc just outside my condo is 80+ baht so maybe double more local places but it's convenient if I didn't find time to cook... lazada is dangerous for spending but again much easier than finding stuff locally.. I'd love to be there more but tbh I would need more cash just to cover my health costs.... happy with Thai. or Isaan food most days - Pet mak mak! Would be nice to meet while over there from late Nov to end of Dec you visit the Pattaya/Jomtien area - not sure I could drive to your place lol...

Health insurance and medicine costs definitely seems to be a huge bill for many people, perhaps that will come to us in time, but hopefully not in the near future 🤞 our insurance is cheap enough for now 🙏 As long as you're happy and comfortable and not living beyond your means then you should spend your money how you see fit 😊 This is just how much it costs us and that if you want to live cheaply in Thailand then it can definitely be done 😊 Let us know when you're around and we'll see if we can arrange to meet up somewhere, sounds good 😁🙏

What you have to bear in mind is that Thai workers spend 10-12 hours a day 6 days a week at work when they get home they are knackered and want to eat and sleep until going back to work the following day . They also probably are going back to a family . Most Western men who retire in Thailand A/ choose a tourist destination to retire too B/ arrive single C/ have more time to fill . To expect Westerners to live like Thai's is nice on paper but unrealistic IMHO.

I've been thinking about moving to Thailand with my Thai wife and child. We have a house over there which is a start only thing that's been stopping us is getting a income while we are there. I think its fantastic that your living off the farm and doing well for yourselves. Its very inspiring. Damn that's so true. I'm very, very lucky... I work remotely for a uk company, and I get about 150k bhat if I converted my monthly wage. Which I know is extremely a lot compared to others. I'm based in bkk, so bills are sightly more, but I try and pay as little as I can for things for my own budget. My condo, which has a modern pool, gym, etc, is 9000 bhat. Could I get a bigger one? Definitely, but I don't need a bigger one.

here in New Zealand i run a fridge, a chest freezer, a laptop and 1 light and per month(no heater, no aircon) my electricity is $200nzd plus per month($4500THB roughly) if i was running aircon my bill would be equivalent of 10,000thb a month. its crazy

Considering the ever increasing waist lines of many who move to Thailand to live, I think people eat waaaaayyyyyy too much. It not only costs more money, it’s very unhealthy. I’ve trained myself in the US over the past 22 months to eat one-big-meal-per-day consisting of raw, multi-vegetable salads with berries and 16 oz (5kg) of protein (beef, eggs, salmon, sardines, herring, chicken, pork) I use extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I also eat nuts to satiate hunger. I rarely consume sugar, rice, bread, pasta, potatoes, beans, alcohol. I also walk 8 miles (13k) every other day. I was obese and on 7 medications. I lost 50 lbs. had the best blood test results ever and got off my 7 medications

There seems to be a spurt of Jonny foreigners all doing "Cost Of Life In Thailand Aint Cheap" vlogs of recent, and it really has started to get my goat!.. I've not watched any because me and my autistic mind are likely to end up going into RANTPAGE!....I wonder has anyone told these folk how much life is now costing back home.??.. Quick headsup "COST OF LIFE IN UK - IT AIN'T CHEAP" 🤣🤣🤣 Anyway. after such a pleasing video I thought I'd leave a positive comment to confirm the costs you both mention when living REAL THAI LIFE are TRUE me and my ex-wife lived at ground level in a small section of an old style Thai House up on stilts and grandma lived upstairs with walls of wooden slats and acorrugated roofing. G/mama had no aircon, her electric items were just TV , Radio and Fridge with lights. Downstairs we had 2 rooms with concrete and plastered walls each room also had old style wooden windows (no glass panes) . the electric powered items in our rooms was the air-con and 2 standing Fans. There was the PC computer, two phones, iron, fridge, lighting and my gadgets from UK. we had no children expense (phew) our cooking was done outside, mostly on BBQ grill and a gas stove top using bottled gas that lasted months and months, even with grandma cooking sticky rice 24/7. One rickety old Datsun flatbed was our transport and here is what it all costed roughly every two weeks we did shopping at tesco lotus and one of those shopping trips was the big one. To begin Costing :MEALS We ate out most nights at the walking street or the local night market in Pa Sang. either 60 baht meals or just buy a mix of grilled meats 10-15 baht and a pouch of rice from different street food stall to eat at table. 5 out of 7 mornings we ate khao mon gai at our favourite restaurant or moo grob/khao ka moo/ khao moo daeng at restaraunt aunty big meals on big plates for 30 baht each plus drink 20 baht. :SHOPPING 1st of our shopping big we usually spend 2000-2500 baht. 2nd of our shoppping big we usuall spent around 1000-1300 baht laundry powders, and I insisted on luxury powders and liquids with super fresh 24 hour scents and luxury conditioners (180-240baht). my ex still insisted on buying her low cost (40 baht 80 baht) liquid in a bag 3-4 kilos of pork and chicken wings. Sometimes we would get whole fish to grill at home with steak and salmon for her sushi ( 240-380 baht) crisps, chocolate, my liquor for 7 nights black cock (60-80 baht) per 1/4 ltr bottle. cans of tuna, 4-5 cans to snack on. big mix of noodles for snacking on. crispy chicken skin small bag (55 baht) pineapples, apples, yoghurts candy or clothing for 2 neices (80-300 baht PHONE 300 baht each unlimited data, calls, texts including wifi at home (600 baht) ELECTRIC 2500 baht per month could be less if i wasn't awake every night gaming until 6-7 am SOCIALISING WEEKENDS Usually a family gathering at the uncles home 500 baht snake and ox meat my special request red and white whiskey 400 baht TRANSPORT petrol/deisel 300 baht per week wife travel to local work some mornings and if i wanted a day out to go see anywhere I find on maps then sometimes spend more on petrol (100-200 baht) CLOTHING 400-800 baht per month buying either thai fisherman farmer trousers or T-shirts from walking street night market (( As you can see from this list of costs on average shopping and other monthly expenses Thailand is NOT EXPENSIVE, and most of the expenses of higher cost are my items and not really necessary so costs could be even lower. Hopefully it gives anyone reading an idea of how affordable Thailand REALLY is and not once did I have any type of Food poisoning and I also ate foods that would be a straight NO back in UK. Though most offal is not on sale anymore like it used to be for our elderly relatives and previoiuos generations!)) However, Those videos saying that it IS EXPENSIVE, well, that's only if you are too above yourself to eat at streetfood carts or PROPER OG THAI RESTAURANTS that look "dodgy" according to all the stereotyped reports and heresy from a mate who has a mate who knows someone who ate a bad meal in INDIA!! ffs.. SO you eat at western style restaurants mostly, when you say you eat THAI FOOD thats only when you queue from 4 am to eat an 800 baht meal at the most famous Bangkok Street cart by celebrity woman chef (lucky if you can even get a table there ACTUALLY) but hey, realistically they know it's not even about the food it's about the instgram pose to say they have been there. Or maybe they can only eat KFC, PIZZA HUT, WENDYS BIG KAHUNA and pay 1200 bAHT FOR 1 MAIN COURSE.. Please forgive the lengthy comment, ADHD and Autism can be a nightmare sometimes lol, and I hope to see someone learn from this video and get their butts out to thailand ASAP. It really is one awesome country to visit and the people are the greatest most welcoming beings I have ever met, the experiences to be had you won't ever forget. I totally agree, we've seen so many videos of people doing cost of living videos in Thailand who aren't really living here, they're either on a really long trip with no intention of staying or come for a few weeks and did a video. Don't get me wrong, everyone has their own experiences and this is ours. People may have come and that's what they actually spend but that doesn't mean you can't live on the cheap in Thailand. Living on the cheap doesn't mean living poor either, I feel we live quite comfortably here. We're able to buy what we want when we want, looking back to when we were living back in England, we couldn't do that. We had to budget and carefully think through each purchase. When I say we buy what we want, I don't mean buying nice fancy cars or expensive equipment, I mean meals and supplies ect.. I intend to create a budget of 2000 pounds, which should be straightforward. I don't experience stress about my limited drinking habits. However, being a Thai citizen adds a unique aspect to it.
For what it's worth, during Covid when travel was restricted, alcohol sales banned and many places closed, my wife and I were living very comfortably on around 22,000 baht/month. But as you said, that can easily be doubled if you are on a constant holiday by eating out often, drinking at "farang" bars and travelling a lot.
Exactly that, well said! Everyone has their own set of circumstances which can vary massively, but on the whole Thailand is still a very affordable country to live in 😊
Please do a price breakdown on how much is total cost to buy the house, farm and 2 cars? We need an example for a regular Joe coming to Thailand without a place to stay and a vehicle for transportation.
I'm not sure we could do such a video as the cost of a car and house build can vary massively, and like we said ours were already here to take over for us so there weren't any costs as such! There's probably lots of videos on UA-cam that will show costs of vehicles and house builds etc 😊🙏
We're in Chachoengsao province, an hour or so from Bangkok and we can live pretty cheap here 😃🙏 But I agree, Phuket and other places can be much more expensive in comparison!

I did say I'd got a rooster for you, but since you've up'd your hen stock, well I've got 4 more younger roosters that you can take as well, for the same price, yes all 5 are free, the only down side is you have to collect them, and we're about 2 hours away. My only stipulation is that you can't turn them into KFC for 2 years at a minimum, but fertilised eggs on Lazada cost about 240 baht a dozen, way more than you're making on omlettes.

Nice video guys! I was one of those who made a video saying you need 40k + visa + insurance + entertainment to live well. Agree if you can live like a Thai it's easily doable on far less :) I find telling a Western person who is not well versed in loving Thai food to live like a Thai, is like telling my Thai wife to live off a diet of blue cheese, she could not do it :) Lots of people I know, when they are told Thailand is so cheap, believe and even expect that they could have a like for like existence for pennies on the dollar in Thailand vs the UK for example, when you simply can't, if anything Thailand is more expensive if you want the same things here as there.

ha isn't that true about the cost of western things being MORE EXPENSIVE! discovered that when treating myself the first time shopping at the big mall in chiang rai. There's a huge import supermarket thats got a mix of all foreign foods; japan, china, malaysia, indian, spanish, greek, polish, english and lots of american goods. We originally went to get my ex some cheese as a treat because she finished all the cheese i brought from UK. Well, I Nearly keeled over with heart failure! and thats just seeing the cost of package cheese like babybel or kraft slices. Finding the proper stuff nearly sent me to my GRAVE !! over £10 most cheeses for under 200gm. pizza hut, kfc, import foods were all once a month luxury eating out and the monthly big shop treats, gladly my ex would make sure that i didn't go crazy. But after the 2nd time there, I just left it all alone and treated myself with Thai products on every shopping trip.

But like we said in the video, of course you have to sort out visas first and foremost to even get into the country you'd be pretty stupid if you didn't already have that calculated before hand. Also visa isn't living cost.. 🤷🏼♂️ this video is about how much it costs to live in Thailand day to day.. all other costs such as insurances and visa's varies on people's circumstances. We can't advise a pensioner or retiree on how much their medical costs and visa costs are as it's different for us but we can tell you how much we pay for gas/electric/food ect... Cost of living as the title suggests.

No Internet, just cafes, rarely eating out just chilling... I doubt that's changed massively since then. Although when we return next year, I plan on having a monthly budget of 45k a month keeping are family. I'm sure some months we won't get near that. Thank you so much 🙏 No, I don't think a huge amount will have changed since then, we show that you can live a comfortable life on around 15k a month, so 45k will be more than enough I'm sure! But obviously it's better to budget for more than less, you never know when you'll need it 😊 And we're going to put the girls into local government Thai schools, until they're old enough to decide what route they want to go down etc and we will set aside money for this 😊 And our health insurance isn't so bad as we're still younger than 30 and in good health so it's a bit cheaper for us 🙏
Thai's are very good and living on very little and are content with how they live, I think that's the key. But everyone is different and has different wants/needs 🙂
Dear Rich Farang. Still looking damp where you are - hope it dries up for our visit in December? If I were honest not sure I would like to live all the time like a normal Thai - I like going for a beer or having a pizza (yes I know should eat Thai food - don't tell anyone) which can cost a days wages for a thai worker - 400 baht +. The good news is managed to find Camilla's chocolate ( it is terry's orange??)
I'm sure by December it will be dry again, but yes we've still been getting lots of downpours! Hey don't worry, we get a pizza here and there for our western fix, we're not afraid to treat ourselves once in a while 😁 And Camila says yes that's perfect, thanks so much 🙏

Hi @jcl It depends on your drinking habit and farang food needs really , I see guys here on UA-cam eating 400baht burger and chips, or chasing pizza , steaks etc , if that’s what you need to survive along with beer every day then your 90k estimate might be closer than you think , but if you like to eat local food you can live very reasonably, my lunch is 55 thb that’s pad krapow gai/moo etc with an egg and a bowl of broth , it’s excellent, dinner for the two of us is around 250 - 300 thb at the market stalls , last night was a proper sit down restaurant and cost 622 thb for two meals and a Tom yum gong to share, so it depends on your tastes and addictions what you spend , I spend around 20-30k thb per month that includes paying my mil electric and water bill , we only eat in the house about once or twice a month , no alcohol or cigarettes or western food , it’s your decision how much it costs to live here Regards Davy

Eating out isn't that expensive, a meal can cost $1-1.50 on the streets. Sometimes it costs more to cook, but it's also part of culture to eat out.
Also Bangkok is a capital city, of course it's going to be more expensive than most of Thailand, anyone would be a fool to think otherwise. Try living in London or Paris for cheap..

I was working in Chonburi for 14 years. I was still hitting the malls, restaurants and “fashion conscious”. Now that I am retired in the countryside of Isaan, no temptation to be “fashion conscious”, having the latest gadgets or visiting the nearest mall (40 minutes away). It’s nice to be away from the materialistic rat race and enjoy nature and work on my tropical garden. ( plus I am now antisocial 555) I agree with you two, you’re not poor but have proven that you don’t need to live a consumer life gathering unnecessary items advertised on billboards, the internet and TV. ( Surprised your grocery bill once a month is only 2000-3000 with kids. That’s amazing) You’re showing the young generation how to live reasonably. Good realistic video about “normal Thais”. Many valid points were made.

As a single I need around 750 euros/30,000 baht a month, my car is 25 years old and I live rent-free. I am retired and my German pension goes into my Thai account without any deductions. some chickens and cats enrich my life. I also get some money a month from my ex so that I can take care of his property and animals since he doesn't live in Thailand. My life is good, even with private health insurance.
I have my pants down daily so my budget goes out the window, enjoyed listening to your perspective on the topic :)

We live in Rayong and our electricity bill is 800THB per month. The wife and daughters food spend per month 4,000 per month. Daughter 6, goes to a dual language school is around 50k per year. My wife loves the local food markets.
My budget is different although I don't drink or smoke. People here on a retirement need to bring in 66,000 per month to maintain our visa status. Plus I need private health insurance.
Owning your own property and car is a massive saving.
I'm a massive minimalist don't own a pair of shoes, trainers, socks, trousers, jacket, tie or suit.

Before this I ran a business in Bangkok for 13 years ...even so the transition to rural Thai life was hard. You are both quite right. You could even live outside of Pattaya for 20K easily. One bed condo and eating healthy Thai food. If you want to eat in western type restaurants and drink in soi 6 every night then you will be back in the UK pretty quickly.

It's very varied across the country I think, but it definitely isn't anywhere near the 50k that some people are claiming is budget 😅
We’ve 2 bedroom house and 1 bedroom mini house … air conditioning in 1 bedroom (2 bedroom house on 24/7 @ 26c electric 3300 baht @ $100 USD
Our aircon isn't on 24/7 so that definitely saves a lot 😅
We live up in Issan in a village. Have our own house which is paid for. Easily can live for 4-5K per week. However if we go on a road trip, holidays, buy stuff outside the households, then we spend more. Pickup is 15 years old with very low kms as I spent alot of time abroad in the UK and its really cheap to insure and tax. So can live very cheap. UK full pension is £800 pm which is double what we spend... So rather than freezing in the UK with high bills, council tax, etc, sell everything and come and retire in Thailand!
You have it sussed and are very much living the life, good for you! You can see living in Thailand for how it really is 😊🙏 Our last gas/electricity bill in England was around £3k so we definitely do not miss that! 🤣

We just feel its better to plan for more than what you need. But then again we have some time left before we can move, as we are waiting for my wife and stepson to get citizenship in Norway first. Just so he can choose where he wants to live.

Medicine.. I take 1 ea 2 x a day = in US 120 for 60 days$1069.50 USD for two months. Same bought here 120 for 60 days @ $424.00 USD (14,000 Thai baht). for two months. This is one heart medicine…

A bit of everything really, we have banana trees, mango, rambutan, avocado etc and different vegetables and herbs. Just planting things as we go along and seeing what does well 😊
Hi I live in Jomtien and me and my partner live off 24,000b per month. Out of that we pay rent, electricity, water, gasoline (for 2 motorcycles), laundry and all our toiletries and food. We cook at home most of the time but enjoy a meal out 1 or 2 times a month. Neither of us drink or smoke. It's still a great life and far better than the UK.

Good video! Live on local produce, cook at home as much as possible, and keeping a vege garden will bring your cost down, and most of all, it is a healthy lifestyle. The occasional visit to a nice restaurant is a nice treat. Our biggest expense is utility cost during the hotter months and prescription medications, the rest of the costs are very much manageable.

Medicine costs, medical expenses Let you go see a doctor at the district hospital or sub-district hospital. The cost will be very low. And for Thai nationals, it's free. Pay only 30 baht. All necessary vaccines for children according to age are free. And finding a doctor at a clinic in the case of ordinary illness You can walk in when the doctor's clinic is open. The cost of medicines and doctor's visits is higher than in public hospitals, but compared to the UK, it's just under £30 per for doctor visit and medicine. As for medicines that are necessary for use within the home, such as paracetamol, diarrhea medicine, dysentery, constipation, cough medicine, medicine for children, you can buy them at the pharmacy. Because there will be a pharmacist controlling every store.
Minimum wage in Thailand is about 10k Baut. We live very cheap. Street food meals about 60 to 100 baut per meal. Home is paid for, so no rent. We paid about a million baut for our home in Isaan on half Rai. We have a pond for fish and a lot of chickens and ducks. Expensive part is that 800k you got to keep in the bank for visa and medical insurance. You are doing very good living the dream life. Good Luck

Can you get the provincial authority to have the driveway paved so that you don’t have through the muddy path each time it rains.
The village chief should be informed and it’s his duty to improve the condition of the village.
Happen to my Thai friend’s village in Laem Thong many years ago.
The path leading to the village was muddy when rain & dusty when dry. It’s all pave up now.

I guess it's something we could look into, perhaps in the future. For now it doesn't bother us too much, there's only 4 or 5 houses on our road and we're the last house so it isn't too busy 😊

Hey... I'll be back in Thailand at the end of November for just over a month (from a small village near Preston but lived in Aus tor 20+ years)... In my home town UK people live on tight budgets, rarely eat out, etc. - I worked 60hr weeks mon-sat for 160 quid back in '99 but tripled my income when I moved to Sydney, although scary and I was literally broke by the time I earned my 1st wage... Now 24 years on, I bought a small 2 bed unit here, and a 1 bed condo in Jomtien... have some savings but not enough.... I agree Thailand can be cheap to live, especially outside of tourism areas, although as per a couple of other comments there are caveats.... health is a big one... insurance, especially with underlying medical conditions which happen to the best of us, alongside medicine costs... I only get to spend up to around 3-5 weeks in my place there at a time, 3-4 times a year but while there I'm usually on a budget / careful to spend but I do cook at home a bit... not having transport I rely a bit too much on 7elevens or the markets within walking distance which have premium prices - I did have ebike plans but tore my rotator cuff setting up the brakes (now needs surgery which I can't afford!)... pad krapao, khao pad, khao man gai, etc just outside my condo is 80+ baht so maybe double more local places but it's convenient if I didn't find time to cook... lazada is dangerous for spending but again much easier than finding stuff locally.. I'd love to be there more but tbh I would need more cash just to cover my health costs.... happy with Thai. or Isaan food most days - Pet mak mak! Would be nice to meet while over there from late Nov to end of Dec you visit the Pattaya/Jomtien area - not sure I could drive to your place lol...

Health insurance and medicine costs definitely seems to be a huge bill for many people, perhaps that will come to us in time, but hopefully not in the near future 🤞 our insurance is cheap enough for now 🙏 As long as you're happy and comfortable and not living beyond your means then you should spend your money how you see fit 😊 This is just how much it costs us and that if you want to live cheaply in Thailand then it can definitely be done 😊 Let us know when you're around and we'll see if we can arrange to meet up somewhere, sounds good 😁🙏

What you have to bear in mind is that Thai workers spend 10-12 hours a day 6 days a week at work when they get home they are knackered and want to eat and sleep until going back to work the following day . They also probably are going back to a family . Most Western men who retire in Thailand A/ choose a tourist destination to retire too B/ arrive single C/ have more time to fill . To expect Westerners to live like Thai's is nice on paper but unrealistic IMHO.

I've been thinking about moving to Thailand with my Thai wife and child. We have a house over there which is a start only thing that's been stopping us is getting a income while we are there. I think its fantastic that your living off the farm and doing well for yourselves. Its very inspiring. Which I know is extremely a lot compared to others. I'm based in bkk, so bills are sightly more, but I try and pay as little as I can for things for my own budget. My condo, which has a modern pool, gym, etc, is 9000 bhat. Could I get a bigger one? Definitely, but I don't need a bigger one.

Considering the ever increasing waist lines of many who move to Thailand to live, I think people eat waaaaayyyyyy too much. It not only costs more money, it’s very unhealthy. I’ve trained myself in the US over the past 22 months to eat one-big-meal-per-day consisting of raw, multi-vegetable salads with berries and 16 oz (5kg) of protein (beef, eggs, salmon, sardines, herring, chicken, pork) I use extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I also eat nuts to satiate hunger. I rarely consume sugar, rice, bread, pasta, potatoes, beans, alcohol. I also walk 8 miles (13k) every other day. I was obese and on 7 medications. I lost 50 lbs. had the best blood test results ever and got off my 7 medications
Healthy eating can definitely be done cheaply in Thailand, it's up to the individual at the end of the day 😊

Anyway. after such a pleasing video I thought I'd leave a positive comment to confirm the costs you both mention when living REAL THAI LIFE are TRUE
me and my ex-wife lived at ground level in a small section of an old style Thai House up on stilts and grandma lived upstairs with walls of wooden slats and acorrugated roofing. G/mama had no aircon, her electric items were just TV , Radio and Fridge with lights.
Downstairs we had 2 rooms with concrete and plastered walls each room also had old style wooden windows (no glass panes) . the electric powered items in our rooms was the air-con and 2 standing Fans. There was the PC computer, two phones, iron, fridge, lighting and my gadgets from UK. we had no children expense (phew)
our cooking was done outside, mostly on BBQ grill and a gas stove top using bottled gas that lasted months and months, even with grandma cooking sticky rice 24/7. One rickety old Datsun flatbed was our transport and here is what it all costed roughly
every two weeks we did shopping at tesco lotus and one of those shopping trips was the big one.
To begin Costing
:MEALS
We ate out most nights at the walking street or the local night market in Pa Sang. either 60 baht meals or just buy a mix of grilled meats 10-15 baht and a pouch of rice from different street food stall to eat at table.
5 out of 7 mornings we ate khao mon gai at our favourite restaurant or moo grob/khao ka moo/ khao moo daeng at restaraunt aunty big meals on big plates for 30 baht each plus drink 20 baht.
:SHOPPING
1st of our shopping big we usually spend 2000-2500 baht.
2nd of our shoppping big we usuall spent around 1000-1300 baht
laundry powders, and I insisted on luxury powders and liquids with super fresh 24 hour scents and luxury conditioners (180-240baht). my ex still insisted on buying her low cost (40 baht 80 baht) liquid in a bag
3-4 kilos of pork and chicken wings. Sometimes we would get whole fish to grill at home with steak and salmon for her sushi ( 240-380 baht)
crisps, chocolate, my liquor for 7 nights black cock (60-80 baht) per 1/4 ltr bottle.
cans of tuna, 4-5 cans to snack on.
big mix of noodles for snacking on.
crispy chicken skin small bag (55 baht)
pineapples, apples, yoghurts
candy or clothing for 2 neices (80-300 baht
PHONE
300 baht each unlimited data, calls, texts including wifi at home (600 baht)
ELECTRIC
2500 baht per month could be less if i wasn't awake every night gaming until 6-7 am
SOCIALISING WEEKENDS
Usually a family gathering at the uncles home
500 baht snake and ox meat my special request
red and white whiskey 400 baht
TRANSPORT
petrol/deisel 300 baht per week wife travel to local work some mornings and if i wanted a day out to go see anywhere I find on maps then sometimes spend more on petrol (100-200 baht)
CLOTHING
400-800 baht per month buying either thai fisherman farmer trousers or T-shirts from walking street night market
(( As you can see from this list of costs on average shopping and other monthly expenses Thailand is NOT EXPENSIVE, and most of the expenses of higher cost are my items and not really necessary so costs could be even lower. Hopefully it gives anyone reading an idea of how affordable Thailand REALLY is and not once did I have any type of Food poisoning and I also ate foods that would be a straight NO back in UK. Though most offal is not on sale anymore like it used to be for our elderly relatives and previoiuos generations!))
However, Those videos saying that it IS EXPENSIVE, well, that's only if you are too above yourself to eat at streetfood carts or PROPER OG THAI RESTAURANTS that look "dodgy" according to all the stereotyped reports and heresy from a mate who has a mate who knows someone who ate a bad meal in INDIA!! ffs.. SO you eat at western style restaurants mostly, when you say you eat THAI FOOD thats only when you queue from 4 am to eat an 800 baht meal at the most famous Bangkok Street cart by celebrity woman chef (lucky if you can even get a table there ACTUALLY) but hey, realistically they know it's not even about the food it's about the instgram pose to say they have been there.
Or maybe they can only eat KFC, PIZZA HUT, WENDYS BIG KAHUNA and pay 1200 bAHT FOR 1 MAIN COURSE..
Please forgive the lengthy comment, ADHD and Autism can be a nightmare sometimes lol, and I hope to see someone learn from this video and get their butts out to thailand ASAP. I totally agree, we've seen so many videos of people doing cost of living videos in Thailand who aren't really living here, they're either on a really long trip with no intention of staying or come for a few weeks and did a video. Don't get me wrong, everyone has their own experiences and this is ours. People may have come and that's what they actually spend but that doesn't mean you can't live on the cheap in Thailand. Living on the cheap doesn't mean living poor either, I feel we live quite comfortably here. We're able to buy what we want when we want, looking back to when we were living back in England, we couldn't do that. We had to budget and carefully think through each purchase. When I say we buy what we want, I don't mean buying nice fancy cars or expensive equipment, I mean meals and supplies ect..

Good honest blog - loved it. You might not believe this, but where I live (Buriram) most of the farang are living on pennies. Forget what some Farang tell you, most are on overstay or are on fake visas, but they still talk in telephone numbers 🤔 I am still amazed how reasonable the cost of living is here, which is great and I still don't understand how the locals can afford their luxuries (big pick-up trucks / iPhones etc.), hey ho, that's Thailand for you 😃

I intend to create a budget of 2000 pounds, which should be straightforward. I don't experience stress about my limited drinking habits. However, being a Thai citizen adds a unique aspect to it.
For what it's worth, during Covid when travel was restricted, alcohol sales banned and many places closed, my wife and I were living very comfortably on around 22,000 baht/month. But as you said, that can easily be doubled if you are on a constant holiday by eating out often, drinking at "farang" bars and travelling a lot.

Please do a price breakdown on how much is total cost to buy the house, farm and 2 cars? We need an example for a regular Joe coming to Thailand without a place to stay and a vehicle for transportation.
I'm not sure we could do such a video as the cost of a car and house build can vary massively, and like we said ours were already here to take over for us so there weren't any costs as such! There's probably lots of videos on UA-cam that will show costs of vehicles and house builds etc 😊🙏

If you are in Essan you don’t have to spend alot as compare to if you are in BK or Phuket.
We're in Chachoengsao province, an hour or so from Bangkok and we can live pretty cheap here 😃🙏 But I agree, Phuket and other places can be much more expensive in comparison!

I did say I'd got a rooster for you, but since you've up'd your hen stock, well I've got 4 more younger roosters that you can take as well, for the same price, yes all 5 are free, the only down side is you have to collect them, and we're about 2 hours away. My only stipulation is that you can't turn them into KFC for 2 years at a minimum, but fertilised eggs on Lazada cost about 240 baht a dozen, way more than you're making on omlettes.

Nice video guys! I was one of those who made a video saying you need 40k + visa + insurance + entertainment to live well. Agree if you can live like a Thai it's easily doable on far less :) I find telling a Western person who is not well versed in loving Thai food to live like a Thai, is like telling my Thai wife to live off a diet of blue cheese, she could not do it :) Lots of people I know, when they are told Thailand is so cheap, believe and even expect that they could have a like for like existence for pennies on the dollar in Thailand vs the UK for example, when you simply can't, if anything Thailand is more expensive if you want the same things here as there.

ha isn't that true about the cost of western things being MORE EXPENSIVE! discovered that when treating myself the first time shopping at the big mall in chiang rai.
There's a huge import supermarket thats got a mix of all foreign foods; japan, china, malaysia, indian, spanish, greek, polish, english and lots of american goods. We originally went to get my ex some cheese as a treat because she finished all the cheese i brought from UK.
Well, I Nearly keeled over with heart failure! and thats just seeing the cost of package cheese like babybel or kraft slices. Finding the proper stuff nearly sent me to my GRAVE !! over £10 most cheeses for under 200gm.
pizza hut, kfc, import foods were all once a month luxury eating out and the monthly big shop treats, gladly my ex would make sure that i didn't go crazy. But after the 2nd time there, I just left it all alone and treated myself with Thai products on every shopping trip.
Requirements for longstay Visa is 800.000 in bank and atleast 65.000/monthly income...

But like we said in the video, of course you have to sort out visas first and foremost to even get into the country you'd be pretty stupid if you didn't already have that calculated before hand. Also visa isn't living cost.. 🤷🏼♂️ this video is about how much it costs to live in Thailand day to day.. all other costs such as insurances and visa's varies on people's circumstances. We can't advise a pensioner or retiree on how much their medical costs and visa costs are as it's different for us but we can tell you how much we pay for gas/electric/food ect... Cost of living as the title suggests.

In 2011 I stayed in issan, many years ago I know.
I checked my wallet after staying 1 month and 7000baht had gone keeping 3 people. No rent of course. Just electric bill 1000. No Internet, just cafes, rarely eating out just chilling... I doubt that's changed massively since then.
Although when we return next year, I plan on having a monthly budget of 45k a month keeping are family. I'm sure some months we won't get near that.

Thank you so much 🙏 No, I don't think a huge amount will have changed since then, we show that you can live a comfortable life on around 15k a month, so 45k will be more than enough I'm sure! But obviously it's better to budget for more than less, you never know when you'll need it 😊 And we're going to put the girls into local government Thai schools, until they're old enough to decide what route they want to go down etc and we will set aside money for this 😊 And our health insurance isn't so bad as we're still younger than 30 and in good health so it's a bit cheaper for us 🙏

If I were honest not sure I would like to live all the time like a normal Thai - I like going for a beer or having a pizza (yes I know should eat Thai food - don't tell anyone) which can cost a days wages for a thai worker - 400 baht +. It depends on your drinking habit and farang food needs really , I see guys here on UA-cam eating 400baht burger and chips, or chasing pizza , steaks etc , if that’s what you need to survive along with beer every day then your 90k estimate might be closer than you think , but if you like to eat local food you can live very reasonably, my lunch is 55 thb that’s pad krapow gai/moo etc with an egg and a bowl of broth , it’s excellent, dinner for the two of us is around 250 - 300 thb at the market stalls , last night was a proper sit down restaurant and cost 622 thb for two meals and a Tom yum gong to share, so it depends on your tastes and addictions what you spend , I spend around 20-30k thb per month that includes paying my mil electric and water bill , we only eat in the house about once or twice a month , no alcohol or cigarettes or western food , it’s your decision how much it costs to live here
