I lived overseas for 2.5 decades. I first went to Thailand in 98. For the next 18 years I went to Thailand every year and sometimes twice. I reckon I've been there 23 times, always for at least 3 weeks. I loved walking out of the airport and getting that first smell of Thailand. The feeling that I always had was of being free, as if I had just walked out of prison. It's an amazing country . I've known at least a half-dozen friends and colleagues who have retired there (a few in Chiang Mai) and are very happy they did so.
Moved here a few months ago partly due to watching every video in your channel. Agree with most of your content and it has been the best decision I’ve made. First time in a long time I’ve been happy
I love the fact that your video is always brief and straightforward. I am glad to hear that Thailand " enables you to be a person you want to be". You are right that we never know what is going to happen. As much as we want to plan, it is also good to enjoy the moment and go with the flow.

Thank you for making your videos! I'm 31 and I've been wanting to leave the US for a long time due to the unrest and the way it's going. but held back by family and friends and a fear of taking that leap of faith to a better free life than 9 to 5 living in my car due to inflation and cost of living. Maybe secure a job as Eng teacher first before you go? So, you could use it as a launching pad. I'm Thai but been living in US for the last 30 years. Lately, I've been going back to visit every year and will move back to stay after retirement. Much slower pace of life there, compared to the US.
Came across this video and wanted to thank you. I'm leaving the Netherlands for Thailand this December. I'm so fed up with the West and its woke bs. You can get a tourist visa and get it renewed every 2 months or so. If you want something more stable you can get a retirement visa, it costs $35-40,000 in a Thai bank or $3,000/month income. What I do is use a visa agency and it takes care of everything for about $700 a year. They also do the 90 day report, which is a pain in the ass

I've been going to Thailand for 22 years (1996 - 2018). Always thought I should and could live there. But what to do there? That has always been my problem. I didn't have the balls and/or knowledge to stay there. In 2018 I got absolutely fed up with being the tourist in Pattaya and other red light districts (Oh yes, that's where I easily end up, unattended! 55555). Even when I had a great time, and zero problems with girls or thais in general. Love the people! I just got fed up being a tourist. Love your channel, Brett. Followed for more than three years now, I think. Keep it up, and I wish you lots of good luck. Cheers!
I can’t disagree with you Brett. As a Thai living in California for 40 years I understand how you felt before moving to Thailand. The high stress of living in the West takes so much life from you daily; but in Thailand you feel much freer. I hope you and your nomad community survives and thrives in Thailand and become self sufficient and prosperous real soon! Cheers.
@jimjanlekha891- I am a Thai-American who has lived in SoCal for 53 years since the age of 2. I'm planning to move to Thailand for retirement. I love and appreciate my adopted country for the opportunities that it has afforded me but Thailand has the lifestyle I am looking for in the second half of my life. Thailand has a sense of community and more concern for one another compared to the US. Unfortunately, the US is becoming more and more divisive and increasingly unsafe. I'm glad I never gave up my Thai citizenship after becoming a US citizen!
@@jimjanlekha891- I'm in the Inland Empire near Ontario. I'm planning to retire early before the age of 60 because I'm done with the "high-stress living in the West that takes from your life daily!" I'm in search of a much calmer and more peaceful existence in a village-like community. We live in California, a state with approximately 40 million people but I often feel lonely. I live in a nice community but I hardly know my neighbors and they have not made any effort to know me. The cost of living here has risen where cost of food has doubled! Crime has also risen. Every day you see grab-and-dash shoplifting on TV and in Northern California, you see thieves break into cars with impunity! Our government is more concerned about impeaching one another than passing sensible laws to benefit Americans. Every month there is a mass shooting somewhere in the country but no one is doing anything about it. Last Memorial Day 2023, I was involved in a mass shooting scare at Ontario Mills Shopping Mall. While I was hiding in a storeroom at a retail store inside the mall waiting to possibly be shot and killed by a gunman, I solidified my decision to move to Thailand to live out the rest of my life if I survive this incident. Fortunately, it was a false alarm but I realized that this was the NEW NORMAL in the US. You are no longer safe anywhere; not at church, school, theaters, malls, airports, grocery stores, concerts..etc. Since I left Thailand at the age of 2, I've been back 6 times, my most recent visit was for one month last April 2023. That last trip really opened my eyes to the possibility of living there permanently! I was amazed at how modern Thailand has become and how much cheaper things cost compared to the US. The most amazing thing was how Thai people were so genuine and nice! I was impressed by how everyone wanted to take care of me and how complete strangers treated me like family! Thai people enjoy giving but don't want anything in return! Everyone seemed happy even though they were poor and didn't have much. I felt safer in Bangkok than in SoCal! With my retirement income, I could live like a KING in Thailand. The cost of living in Thailand is 45% cheaper compared to the US! That means my $3K-$5K retirement budget in Thailand is equivalent to nearly $6K-$10K in the US. Actually, I can live comfortably in Bangkok with only $2K per month. This covers my living expenses and a monthly travel budget as well! I am returning to Thailand in November 2023 for one month. I will be scouting out sites for my eventual retirement. Although Bangkok is nice, I am looking for someplace a bit calmer like Hua Hin or Prachuap Kiri Khan or Cha Am. Sorry for the long story but these are my "notes".

Thanks for the video Brett. (Liked and Subscribed) It checks out. ~17% of adults in UK suffer from depression. That is a lot! Believe it or not, the rate in my country (USA) is about the same at ~18% The rate in Thailand is only ~2%. I went there for personal enjoyment. But I quickly loved the place because ALL the people are SO sincerely warm and friendly. The other thing that positively struck me was that this was the first non-Christian country I had ever visited. It was really enlightening (no pun intended) to have some insight into how religious indoctrination is so embedded in how we think, act, interact and view the world. Good luck!
I have heard some of that but it was concentrated in certain cities. So, hence people were taking advantage of remote work (work from home) and moved out to the rural areas. A relative is raising a few dozen chickens and working from home in healthcare. (hates even going into the city now when it is rarely required by work)
Exactly...that's what I did...I went over there for ½ a year to do "field research"....once I got home again (to Denmark) I worked for a year again and planning on the side (now knowing what actually to plan for), and I have been there for 2 years now...I always plan a year ahead but not more than that (the same goes for my investments), 1 year is within the predictable range I think, beyond that (especially in the this world's fast pace) is very uncertain.

Iv been doing it on savings, but am desperate to find remote work and continue living the good life. I don’t come from a tech background and am clueless on how to find remote work. You can be happy in the UK too, it's not fun here but build a business to get away from 20K salarys, Keep it as a hub where your fam and clients are and then travel around Europe, Middle East and Asia. I think Thailand can also be as alienating as UK and if you don't eventually get married there isn't really any legal way to remote work long term even with elite from my understanding. I like UK central location which makes it a great base. Correct me if I'm wrong tho

Wow… thanks for sharing your thoughts about Thailand… Anyway Thailand is the land of smile…has strict rules because this country is a Kingdom …People are so friendly, helpful, hardworking, and they have a lot of superstitious beliefs ….They love making merits because they believe about karma… They meditate (clear their minds at the end of the day)😊😊😊 If you are planning to move to Thailand you need to know their culture first😊 so that, you won’t have cultural shock 😊
I'm from the UK and feel the same way. In fact on a night out I saw a guy get in a heated argument with his gf and it looked like he was going to hit her so I grabbed his arm asking him to calm down but the police class this as a common assault so I got a caution also..

Mate; this video resonated with me so much. Iv always floated along miserable in the UK. Iv been in Chiang mai myself for the last 5 months and love it. Iv been doing it on savings, but am desperate to find remote work and continue living the good life. I don’t come from a tech background and am clueless on how to find remote work. I will check out your website
Good to see ya again Brett. I couldn't agree with you more!
This is one of the best videos you've ever made Brett. Theyre alwasy insightful and informative...but your presentation is spot on! Truly enjoyed it - as always! Take care
I did my gap year in Thailand. And share your sentiments exactly. Plan to teach after uni, the rest I'll figure out as I go. Greetings from South Africa.
"Gap year?" The epitome of Western privilege. I expect that Mummy and Daddy paid for it.
Nice vid.. honest, respectful and compassionate. Thanks ❤
Good video! Nice to hear some honest frank candid talk.... Yes a lot of people procrastinate and delay taking any action in the UK!
Kind encouraging energy. Bless you
Tim Cook,CEO Apple said that there are many web developers around the world come and work in Chiengmai. He made an appointment to meet Thai Prime Minister in San Francisco first week of November2023 ,APEC meeting in person and plan to set up some business office in Chiengmai soon.
Thanks for this Brett. Totally understand your choice of Chiang Mai. I stay there for two weeks a few weeks ago. It's like a big country town with many universities and subsequently many university students. People are very friendly and they have a strong sporting community including rugby union.
Great video, I know what you said but I’m stuck in Canada till 2030. All the best & thanks for showing me that I can live & be happy in another country
Canuck here leaving soon, Gunna Suk Azz here in Canada by 2030!
Lots of good advice. Thank you.
Just got laid off and that was the last straw. I’ve been wanting to move to Thailand and honestly you have the best videos out there man. I’ve lived in Shanghai for 7 years before and tried to get back in the system here. Thank God it’s not working out. Anyway I’m planning to move to Thailand summer 2024
I'm actually moving to Thailand end of next month 👍
From India here... even after so many years of life.. i still feel a lot of things exciting, I'm driven, fine simple things exciting!! I have visited Thailand many times and will definitely keep in visiting again and again... but as a tourist!! Never as a digital nomad, not my cup of tea!
Correct me if I'm wrong tho
both are ripp off countries, full of shit, psycho people, scammers, thieves, crackhead, slutz no really quality life...good places to live in this world are switzerland, montecarlo, luxembourg, some regions in italy, liechtestein, eau
Great work bro!!! Really good insights :)
Your skin is glowing .. Can you please share any tips for beautiful skin?
Yeah - Botox
YES! Please, I’d LOVE to move to Thailand :D Thanks for making this channel and the digital nomad school -I’ve just signed up and look forward to learning everything I can :D
New subscriber, I plan on moving to Chiang Mai soon, thanks for sharing, really helpful.🙏
It seems like a pipe dream, but I'm working at getting to be 100% remote and getting out of dodge (UK). I know if I can support myself this way I could take the plunge. In my forties, never too late, right?!
I really appreciate this video, Brett. Your suggestions really resonate and have been considering the transition since I first traveled to CM last November. Looking forward to checking your nomadskool resource and hope to connect with you soon
Yo Brett, after nearly a year of contemplation, planning and saving. I'm finally coming to Thailand (20th) & Chiang Mai 23rd. I work remotely as a level 2 software support. Currently been looking at a few houses in wat ket area but I also like the area of your place too. Could we connect when I touch down if there are any available spots local in your area?
Good points, like always Brett. Chiang Mai is the best city for newbies because it has the least “culture shock.” Got a chuckle when you mentioned Silicon Valley, as I’m from San Jose, California, “The Capital of Silicon Valley.” Take care. 🙏🏼
good video mate!
Do you ever have feelings of boredom or isolation? Do you ever get lonely or homesick? I've heard this can happen with certain expats.
Hi...I am looking to relocate to Chiang Mai but read a lot about the "burning season" and veey high air pollution levels around March, April and May being unbearable. How bad is it and how long does it last? Thanks
Welcome to Thailand ❤❤❤
Can you do a video regarding the transition to digital nomads, for people that didnt worked in Hi tech or the digital world. for exapmle - came from the hotels industry in their own countries.
Nice one Brett... I'll be making the move within the next 2-4 months.
Also be making content educations and inspiring others to get out of the UK and to lead a more meaningful and happier life.
Good video mate.
Try the Philippines. Moved here 10 years ago to an island called Boracay.
I just worry about what I am going to di for living in Chiangmai. I wa thinking about this for awhile
Hi Brett- great job. Hope I get to meet u in CM one day 👍
Hi again Brett- have you got an email address I can have my friend David contact you on. He would like to meet you. Lovely elderly American gentleman with a great story to share with you👍
You have a great attitude.
Is thailand not becoming a police state also? With cbdcs and such?
My god. The UK. Spot on..i left real early and never went back.
dude, just visited chiang mai last week, from HK...forgot to contact you but you're probably busy anyways...thought it would have been nice to have gone for dinner with you, but next time i guess. was my first visit, love it there!

Excellent video. Is there a 1 year VISA offered in Thailand?
Are you comfortable having your money in Thai banks Brett ? You know the score in the West with bail-ins and what not.
My life change since I have Chang 😅
I know how you feel brother , For Thai people who came to live in Australia for 28 years now I thinking to moving back to Thailand for good, What do you think of opening Western Bakery style of bread in Thailand?
If its in Bangkok? Yes
@@HolaBrazil I'm not sure where I going to open, my plan is move to Thailand first , and first 2 years I want to travel around Thailand Road to see where the best suited for me. Most of the time when I go back to Thailand I just visited where no tourists area go now I want to see tourists area
Want to do that step to move there.
Wise words Brett.
Men….Here’s the deal! 💯 1. Develops a skill- set to earn six-figure or higher income 2. Become Visible and verifiable 3. Seek out mentors and find a network of like-minded high-value men 4. Physical optimization and self defense skills!
I live in Canada. I hate the weather, the politics, cost of living. I need a change for sure.
Stop whinging - get off your backside - start planning and come over
Love your content and story. I've considered Chang Mai. Only hesitation is the annual burning season. Is the air population really bad during that time or it's bearable and people just deal with it?
Go south to PKK during that time of year ,it is like Chiengmai, cost of living much cheaper than Phuket or Samui.
Good info and your video is so nice
Beautiful
Great video...well said.
Glad you liked it!
Hi Brett, what visa are you on? I'm in a similar position and looking to make the move
Under the table 600 quid yearly visa 😂 just kidding, I'm sure everyone in Thailand is legit these days.
im trying hardest i can to get to have life in thailand, but my sh1tty background is allowing me to reach it only very sparsely and rarely :(((
ya your family and old friends always try to hold you back
sorry had to turn you off , those dam chickens in the background
I'm surrounded by them in Issan , bought the latest noise cancelling headphones. I have to wear them all day , they don't stop the noise only reduce it gonna have to F off 😮
Nice Content 👍👍
No nok kaowao this time, hurrah
I love that you dance around the UK issue with the cancel/thought police. 😅Same thing here in Canada. If it weren't for my kids, I'd be gone already.
I notice too many people want to almost shift their western life to Asia, instead of offloading all that crap, becoming more minimalist first and freeing themselves up for the move.
Chiang mai has no shortage of coffee shops. 😅
How many snakes have you encountered?
It looks like you didn’t travel a lot. I wonder how Chiangmai can be the easiest world city 😅😂 But with 12-15k for a year it is a pretty poor life, you probably need to save 20-25k minimum to have a normal life in Thailand

Any Freemasons in Thailand? Will need to find a lodge.
They don't put up with scum like that in Thailand.
@@John_Wood_ mate 😂 1. I've lived there. 2. There are lodges in Bangkok for sure. Elaborate, you neurotic fool?
what is a freemason? are you active in volunteering or its mostly meetings and get togethers?
@@darwinjina the aim of Freemasonry is the spiritual advancement of man through the use of allegory. Lots of info online.
@@jaredlandman1532 thanks. I will look it up.
Need a roomie with consistent income who loves cleaning and cooking? 😘😁
What kind of visa did you get. Is there a 1 year visa i can get just to check out Thailand for one year.
