Cognac Review: Rémy Martin XO
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 бер 2017
- Rémy Martin XO
"XO" stands for 'extra old.' Specifically, no eau-de-vie (distilled wine) making up this spirit is less than 10 years old. In fact, Rémy Martin XO is comprised of eau-de-vie that ranges from 10yrs - 37yrs and is a blend of 400 eau-de-vie.
"Closure"
Natural cork.
"ABV"
40%
"Format"
750ml
"Price"
Expensive
"Nose" (undiluted)
Complexity abounds with notes of raising, red wine, saddle leather, dry leaves, roses and peonies.
"Palate" (undiluted)
Smooth entry of strawberries, orange spice, vanilla, dark plums and a little Canadian maple sugar.
"Finish" (undiluted)
Good length leaving cinnamon, cardamom tea, drying oak.
"General Impressions"
As one of my viewers astutely pointed out, Scotch whisky and other whisky fans are probably going to find the flavor profile of this cognac rather muted. It is less, how shall we say, spicy and vibrant than single malts and say other whiskies like bourbon. So, adjust your expectations if you want to try Cognac. It is much smoother.
That being said, it is enjoyable and is a big step up from the VSOP level. This spirit is balanced, dry, and profoundly drinkable, especially when paired with dark chocolate or a great cigar.

I just got the Remy Martin XO. I also had the Hennessy XO and out of the two, I find the Hennessy much better.
To me the Hennessy has that nutty, creamy flavour profile that I love in Cognac.
Keep up the great videos!
Well Done 😀
EXCELLENT !!! review , keep up the good work, and stay safe.
Just got Courvoisier XO and Hennessy XO. This my next bottle - nice review !
Great job Jason!
John Cook Thanks!
Awesome vidd!
Look forward to tryin this in the near future
Alfonso Bernabe It's very nice.
its smooth initially....
STRAWBERRY JELLY
I’m pairing this now as we speak with a Perez Carrillo la historia cigar. Good pairing yes. Usually I would drink scotch but I do love my xo cognac aswell.
Cognac seems to be more to my taste with a cigar too! Enjoy!!
thks jason
Love your videos
the bottels are open
So you enjoy🐞
Greedings from germany
Thank you! I seem to be getting a lot of viewers from Germany as of late. Hope all is well in Germany in these difficult time. Yes, I do enjoy these whiskies and share liberally with my friends to get their thoughts also.
I was lucky to find this for $75. This is exceptional Cognac. I will one day buy Louis 13th but till then, it doesn't get much better than this.
Lucky I would say! Happy holidays and enjoy!
@@JasonDebly Thanks buddy, you too!
Cheers I saw a bottle of this I am in Australia the bottle was around $200 AU , Thankyou for the information I will be buying a bottle of this to relax and enjoy also. Brandy of different % was my first preference Some 50 years ago then I found scotch now cognac has my interest, keen to broaden my horizons so I will be. Watching further cheers good health
Eric Chilver Cognac, particularly the XO level is very pleasing and much more subtle than Scotch. I am sure you will like it. Thanks for watching!
Good review, Jason. Your video makes me want to rush out and buy a bottle, but the price of XO cognac is more than I want to splash out.
The price is ridiculous. No value for money here. A somewhat similar flavor profile could be achieved with Wiser's Legacy (Canadian whisky for $60).
But, cognac is different, unique and uncompromisingly so and I wanted to know more about it, so here I am. Owner of a very expensive bottle.
i was about to comment on the video where you said that martell vs is really good, actually better than hennessy despite being a slightly lower price range (atleast in europe)
Hey Jason, nice review. I must admit scotch has taken over chez nous il y a des decennies and I just don't get around to Cognac/Armagnac much any more. I have to get one of these XOs for cigar pairing, you obviously know what I mean.
Oh I know what you mean. Waiting to take delivery of a box of Arturo Fuente Anejo. But for pairing with Cognac I would probably go with a nice Connecticut like My Father CT. Cheers!
XO was a minimum of 6,5 yrs until 2018 when the minimum age was changed to 10 yrs.
ceefyra
Correct!
Its disappointing that big cognac houses like Remy Martin put additives other than caramel e150. They also add sugar and wood extract (Boise). They also bottle at low abv. For 180$, it should be at cask strength. Phthalates is another issue. Its like you are paying more for the name and packaging than the content itself. I read they also put water hastily when diluting their cognacs giving it a soapy flavor. You got to try Germain Robin's brandy, they make cognac the old fashioned way.
You raise valid points. Apparently smaller cognac producers can produce better quality.
Yeah but they are hard to come by. If you do find one, it will be overpriced. Delamain is a small house from what i read that does not use additives. Their XO is 190 usd over here in the Philippines.
Way too expensive for me. Crazy!
Which is your favourite. De Luze xo or Rem Martin xo
Rich Asians are driving the price up mostly of the XO are short supply. But not that much with easy to get affordable VS which I believe is plenty good for the price. 36$ or so 750ml
i drink these alot but when i see others review, it seems to be be delicious and the review seem to enjoy better than me
Remy Martin XO is quite expensive. While I like it, there are other XOs to try like DeLuze. Very nice. My current favourite. All the Best.
I think Cognac can seem muted to a scotch drinker, but the right bottle can have a subtle complexity that keeps you coming back.
Great observation!
But scotch is spicy. I’ve always hated that
hi jason when u review martell ox i got a few but havent drink yet thks
Robin Loke kk will do
Would you do a review on Cardenal Mendoza Brandy de Jerez
Friend, I would if I could, but unfortunately that particular brandy is not available where I live.
Happy holidays!
👍👍👍
Costco has Kirkland Signature XO (from Peyrat) for $46.99 and to me it's more complex than both of these (Remy and Henny). it's so good to me that I'm not inclined to try others (for my money) and will rather explore each of Scotland's malt distilleries :) And you can also get better value with armagnac, even though they're not identical spirits.
@@possibilityspace I seriously doubt it.
well cognac is not really out there for competition is it? Where drinkable cognacs are starting at 150$ and there are absolutely great whiskies at 30-50$. and then comparable quality products to XO's are at half their price. There's also nothing in production of cognac that would warrant such a high price, although it is known from whisky world some brands value themselves highly even though spirit is not really reflecting that inflated price.
Never tried REMY MARTIN XO but tried VSOP. It had lots of flavours but felt slight alcohol burn.
Little sips is the secret.
@@JasonDebly Thanks for your valuable suggestion. I mostly prefer single malts where I never felt any alcohol burning including Indian, scotch and Irish single malts. Remy Martin was my first take on cognac. Definitely will try that method in future, if possible XO.
If you had to choose one XO of the Remy, Henny, Martell or Courvoisier which would it be?
Martell!
👍🌱
are you going to try Remy Martin 1738? Napoleon grade. better than VSOP but below XO
I purchased Remy Martin 1738 after reading a few good reviews, then found out it doesn't quite fit my palate. Comparing with Remy VSOP, I found that it has a narrower array of flavors and less kick. Interestingly, I mixed 75% "1738" with 25% "Nikka from the barrel", and found the sum of them to be superior than either of them on their own.
The Remy Martin 1738 is not available where I live, so unless I see it on my travels, not going to be reviewed anytime soon unfortunately.
My mom used to work in remy martin
I think if I worked at Remy Martin I would be a workaholic!
@@JasonDebly haha ☺️
Jason, how would you rate it against Martell XO? I'm considering which to buy!
Martell XO is more complex and probably the better of the two. Enjoy!
thx
Drinking some now still have half the bottle left
I am sure it will disappear quickly!
Jason Debly lol, I'm going to try to make it last
I prefer rem xo over hennessy xo

Interesting. Have a Happy New Year!
Wait why do only Canada and u.s have 750ml and everyone else 700? Is there a reason?
Not that I am aware of.
@@JasonDebly interesting, thanks for the reply!
Тамаша
Is it worth $150.00?
$150 is not a bad price actually, but I think you can get De Luze XO for same price. I would always go for the De Luze!
In response to Ramon, Hennessy XO is superior to the Remy Martin XO.
Jason Debly wow
4 SHO
Thanks

Remy Martin XO is fine. Dont worry. The difference is slight like Mercedes S class versus BMW 7 series.
He's a lucky guy! Very generous gift!
How is it compared to Louis XIII? is it a similar product or very different? can it get too old so XO is actually better.
And if you open them, can they keep or is it borrowed time. Say you buy a Louis XIII as display but open for tasting with the beautiful fleurs de lys stopper, is that a dead end? must it be drunk when opened. Can it be kept cool? or a spray of nitrogen before closing.
Good luk не риялно ✅😁
Courvoisier is pronounced

Отличный бред! Хорошая выпивка
