      That's the only way I drink as I just don't like cocktails, but if someone likes cocktails, that's what VS and VSOP are for. Why not? Historically mixing cognac is just as traditional as neat. Just like whisky. Of course every producer wants to maximize their sales, that's why mixology and cocktails were invented. Well, and also to mask inferior liquor with citrus 😎

    • @WittyDroog
      @WittyDroog 4 роки тому +5

      Well a Brandy Alexander is a fairly old cocktail, and while craft cocktails have made a resurgence it's not like cognac makers are doing the same pitches as Campari does. I think the guy in the guy in the video says it best when he says there's really no bad way to enjoy a good cognac. Personally I like drinking it neat but I also like it as a premium ingredient in something mixed, and to be clear a well thought out cocktail not just an expensive Long Island Iced Tea

    As a big fan of good cognac and brandy I find many similarities between good cognac and good bourbon - they are made in similar processes from completely different ingredients and mash but are distilled and aged in much the same way - much like two different sides if the same coin.

    • @alexk3088
      @alexk3088 2 роки тому +2

      Almost. Bourbon is made in charred barrels (charcoal on the inside), cognac is made in toasted barrels made from different species of oak. They are both similar and very different. Love both :-) also many bourbons are column distilled, while cognac is always double pot stilled.

    I drink it either with a big fat Ice cube that fills almost the whole glass or served hot, pre heating the glass with hot water, then putting a bit cognac inside and spreding it all around and igniting it. after that the glass is nice and hot, then i put the cognac in. The flavor comes out 10 times more! you smell on it and a cognac vapor fills your nose and you can smell much more aromas.

    alcohol drinks and tobacco smoke will never be the main stream like in 80's. that's why you have to dig into the information mostly by your own desire. not many teenagers would spend time on digging the alcohol drink history. for me, i drink from 18 of course. but i just drink for drunk in pubs making friends partying. just upto now im 40 and start concerning about notes and taste. and just understand the different of whisky from cognac and brandy.

    Gentlemen, cognac (brandy in general) should ALWAYS be served in HOT glasses, large body but narrow open.
    The warm alcohol will evaporate with all aromas and can be smelled, enjoying all qualities of this special drink.
    By the way, I recommend you to try an Romanian burned wine (vinars) called JAD. Is not cheap but it worth all his price, the price/quality ratio beats easily many cognac celebrity brands.

    • @alexk3088
      @alexk3088 2 роки тому

      Yes. Don't drink. Sip. Like you're trying very hot coffee and trying not to burn your tongue. Very small amounts, especially at first, on the very tip of your tongue. Ethanol overwhelms the palate and numbs it. So you need to ease into it. It may take several times. Once you took a bug gulp, that session is ruined, try another day. After a while your brain "ignores" the ethanol and only registers flavor.
