I bought my first bottle of RM VSOP. Took it to a party. All the ladies loved it. I liked it but not my favorite beverage by any means. It’s an easy drink, very smooth. I noticed some camel and vanilla flavors.

The origins on how Cognac started is also well worth to mention . See below some history on its heritage Note the name brandy comes from the dutch name Brandenwijn ( burned wine)
The principle of cognac preparation dates back to the 17th century. At that time, Dutch ships had been calling at the coasts of the Charente for decades. The crew happily stocked up on wine on this occasion. As this quality lost due to the long journey, the Dutch demand for distilled wine (brandy), which had a longer shelf life, grew. The inhabitants of the Charente developed the second distillation at the end of the 17th century. The town of Cognac has since associated its name with this new spirit.
It didn't take long for consumers to discover that the brandy from the Cognac region was better than its competitors and willing to pay more for it. The Dutch strengthened their interests in the region and supplied their best cognac mainly to the English nobility. Because cognac remained mainly an export product, many young foreigners settled in the region. They regularly intermarried into the local community and this is still reflected in the name of many well-known cognac houses.
In the 1890s, the houses of Martell and Hennessy managed to gain the upper hand in the cognac trade. They dominated the market for the next 150 years. After this, small companies were able to take back part of the market. Demand for cognac continued to rise, leading to overproduction and a sharp fall in prices at the end of the 19th century. Then the grape aphid, also called Phylloxera vastatrix, struck. In sixteen years, 85% of the vines were destroyed. The rescue came by grafting the European vine onto the resistant American rootstocks. As a result, there was also a massive switch from folle blanche to ugni blanc.

Well done. I would guess that the reduced space requirement on board cognac vs Wine was also a plus

@@simpinainteasy680 Correct there was one other wine that could be taken on long journys , quite a heavy wine from the white wine grape grown primarily in the Tokaj-Hegyalja region of Hungary
Creating wines that could be stored for prolonged time without losing its flavour .

I've cooked with cognac for years and a few months ago I thought, hey, I'm going to try this neat and see if I like it. Well as it turns out I have discovered cognac! I'm going to spring for the XO as a Christmas gift for myself. Great review guys!

Hello, what would you like brandy from variants: Torres 20, Sarajishvili VSOP, Park VSOP and Meukow VSOP. Possibly others for a similar price. (Remy Martin VSOP and 1738 until I have and I must say that they are excellent :)

Just got the 1738, man oh man it's like drinking non carbonated champagne. The heat is there but after it settles, man oh man, do flavours rush through. Drank it first thing in the morning as I didn't believe the flavours last night

Good review guys and can’t argue with your choices as had all three myself. 1738 is an excellent product and here in the UK it is about 1/3 price of XO.
XO is obviously excellent and always impresses but on value for money terms 1738 wins every time.
