Hi Noel! Congrats for the amazing work. I’m 179 cm / 77/78 kg. Broke my Cymatic 5’7 31lt that I loved and struggle to replace it. I have possibility to buy a dominator 2 - 5’9 - 31.5 lt or a flat earth 5’10 - 33.4 lt. Really curious about the last one because I’m a big fun of twin fins and try to surf this kind of shape 2+1 is tempting me a lot. In the past I surfed a cc fish and a lane splitter 5’7 (loved it exept in the back side that was difficult to manage). My sweet spot is around 31 liters so for what I understand 5’10 in 33 liters would be good. I tried a seaside 5’7 in the past that is almost same liters just a bit more and it felt good in the water but a bit big out of it for me but I imagine it surf very different from the FE. Thank you and cheers from Italy
I have to agree that your surfing looked better on the 5'7 with more volume. On the smaller boards you had to stay above the board in your turns but on the 5'7 you could lay into it and push harder without blowing out the tail. Great review and it's too bad they no longer carry this model for Slater Designs but if I find one out there I'll make sure to get one that's 34L as opposed to 32-33.5 that I usually ride.
Amazing detailed review. Thanks. I saw that board on sale at my lbs and still deciding since I have no experience with twin but you help me for sure. Want to keep my volume the same as my small waves board for easy paddling but want more perfomance.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thanks appreciate the reply. What you mean by user friendly and easier as a daily driver? I have a board similar to D2 for travelling and good summer waves but looking for board when I get fat in winter and wear thicker wetsuit and gloves.

Noel, another great review. I agree with your call on the 5’7”. Your timing is always on point but the flow you had on that board was beautiful to watch.
Hi Noel. Would this work as a daily driver? I noticed you have it as twin on your website. We get decent swell here (New Zealand) and I like the idea of the extra volume without impacting on performance too much.
Awesome review getting 3 different sizes... I can't wait to try one out I have been riding regular performance boards as twins for years now Yewwww 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
Hi Noel, just go this board, missing the fins now, will fcs2 modern keel be a good match ( my local store has these available) or does it make sense to wait and match it with some other fins
For Twin + Trailer go MR’s. For pure Twin Fin go Al Merrick Keels for maximum hold and drive. They will pivot so so. For best results you want my HP Keels in Two Tab. You can check those out here... www.shopsurfnshow.com/collections/fins/products/surf-n-show-hp-keels-twin-fins
Solid review, did you give it a go with the akilla twins without the stabiliser? Still waiting to give mine a go! Driving me crazy having it sitting in my room unused lol
Stoked you got one. I did not try it with Akila’s Twin without a trailer. Not enough fin for me... the board will pivot even faster and slide out on me. I can surf his fins so so frontside without a trailer but backside I slide out on every turn.
update: this board is an absolute beast! love it on steeper waves with a bit of wall, holds like my stepup but just has so much speed! yet to use it in waves below head high (having a sick run of swell atm) but it has great paddle power so i'm sure it'll grovel well.. for anyone unsure about how this board handles steeper drops, as long as you paddle with commitment & confidence, just trust the board! got foam in all the right places, Mr Aipa sure knows what he's doing.....
Hey Noel epic reviews , love your effort in your professional work, every video i enjoyed at the max! i got this board last week i'm wondering if is able to surf in bigger days with a Thruster large setup (i got the JJF thruster large set of fins). Thanks from Chile you're an absolutely legend! 🤙💥👑
Yes you can shred that board as a Thruster. The fin boxes are clustered (close together) so use a Neutral or Pivot Thruster set. The JJF might go good… try those first if you have them.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thanks Noel, every day at my breaks from work (office computer work) i watched your videos and tutorials, just wanted to say thanks for your epic info! we need more people like you in the world ! yeewwww good waves legend! 🤙
Great review! Have you ever been tempted to try the board as a thruster? Wanting to buy a board that does it all, twin fin, trailer and thruster for those bigger days when you need a little more hold! Just trying to figure out if the flat earth is the one!
@@surfnshowreviews7777 I worked at HS in Mona Vale, Australia, CNCing boards for just over a year. Even remember one for you (if I’m talking to Mr. Noel Salas). I routed in some fins one time but know little about how positioning affects the ride. I can imagine how important it is, and always been interested in fin placement! So I guess it’s a compromise! And while the board may work with a thruster setup, it could be better with thruster focused fin positioning. And the board is ideally ridden as a twin or 2+1 I guess
Hey Noel, thanks for all the content you guys provide to us. I have the FE and absolutely love it, I mostly ride it on 2+1 set up (MR's), and I'm trying the find the right fins to ride as a twin fin; I do have the FCS CI Keel set, and I was thinking about the FCS Power twins. Do you think the power twins would go good or I just look for something else? Many thanks - See you in the water!!
The Al Merrick Keels will go good backside but a bit tight frontside. The Power Twins will go pretty good frontside in 1-3’ surf but they slide out backside. My HP Twins work the best…. Check them out here. surfnshow.com/products/twin-fins-hp-twins
I say FE... I like a more responsive board in the pocket and I like to surf top to bottom. The Seaside flies down the line but it’s not really designed to shred the pocket with vertical lines.
Yes.. however be careful using those fins in bigger powerful waves. They put a lot of stress on the fin boxes due to their large fin area. I like them best in head high waves and under.
Owned a 5'5 x 19 x 2 1/4 Winged Twin @ 25cl and it felt way too small like a skateboard ....... I wish I went bigger as per my go-to fishes 5'7 x 20.25 x 2 3/8 29cl
Noel, thanks for the great review. Can I just ask why you didn’t run it as a twin with the MR ll fin’s? Do you feel you need to go to slightly bigger twin fins?
The MR fins without the stabilizer will slide out on every turn. The MR side fins do not offer enough hold, drive, or stability for me without the stabilizer. Adding the stabilizer they go great
Love your channel! For a daily go to from knee high to overhead lost rnf 96 or flat earth? Which Is the better paddler and user friendly? highly value your opinion. Cheers.
Hi Noel, you had a great flow with this board! quick question about the board volume, I am intermidiate 78kg, riding 5'7 seaside (33.6L). what volume would you recommend for the Flat earth, 5'11 34.2L or 5'10 33.3L?
I suggest the 34.2L if your Seaside feels good. The 5’10” might feel a bit to loose and hard to control…. It pivots quickly. The FE surfs like a HPSB with a Twin + Trailer set up.
As always, great review and surfing Noel. You can really see the projection and quick pivot on this one. Did Slater surf a version of this model at the Keramas comp in 2019?
@@akilaaipa6698 is this board the same or close to any of your own... really like your boards and been wanting to get one... Love riding performance shaped boards as twin fin... been doing it for years now 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
The Phantom has more glide for better paddling and it carves better compared to the FE. The FE pivots faster and offers more performance in the pocket.
Hi Noel, great review. I usually surf with a JS Bulleye 5’10” with 33L and a Dominator II 5’10” with 33L. I’m looking in to the Flat Heart and do you think I Should go to the 5’11” or 6’0”? I’m afraid that 36L will be too much.
OH cool. Nice review and tips, I really appreciate the part about fins. It sounds like a good performance board either for small or head high choppy waves. Thanks
This board is sick, took out a freshie this morning with the MR’s my only comment is my turns wanted to round out more because of the area in that fin it wanted to follow me more that what I’m use to. I put in the Machado fcs2 keel fins and plan on giving it a go in the morning. Yeeew!!!!🏄🌊
Okay guys here’s the final verdict: once you put in that twinnie wether it’s keel or not you can really feel the board going next level and know that your utilizing the board for what it was designed for. The fcs2 Machado keels were drivey and responsive however because of all that area in the fin you have to adjust to it but if you’re patient in exchange the board will show you good flow and technique in a high performance short board package 📦
Great review as always!! Which board is faster in average surf? And which one are you grabbing? Cabianca Medina JS Air 17X Lost Sub Driver 2.0 I was re-watching ur review on the Air 17X and looked like you were flying and surfing better than the Cabianca Medina... Was wondering why the Air 17X wasn’t one of your favorites?
The Medina model is faster and smoother rail to rail. The Air17X got better waves... I almost chose it as a favorite but it has a little too much rocker for 1-2’ mushy surf. It doesn’t have the quick get up and go speed in the weaker surf.
I have a question about Quad fins, i have AM2 Fronts and I'm in doubt about going for mediums or large rear stabilizers fins. I plan to use it in hollow surf between 4-7ft surf
FE pivots faster and quicker rail to rail. The Mod Fish is faster, offers more hold, and grovels better due to the wider tail carrying more get up n go speed. The Mod Fish is more user friendly to. If you have a Mod Fish then I highly recommend the Flat Earth as they surf completely different.
Hi Noel! i usually ride a phantom at 32,6 ltrs like you recomended me :) should i go for the FE in 5,11 (34,2 ltrs) or to 6,0 (36 ltrs) i would like it to work on point break and mushy waves, thanks!!
Great review, covered everything!! makes me want to get one :) Will you be trying more literage from now on in other boards? You may surprise yourself!
Stoked you liked it. Most other board designs do not lend themselves to be ridden with this much foam for me. The most I ride is usually 27L due boards feeling slow to turn and sluggish. For the most part most other board designs lack performance when I go up past 27L.
Hi, understood that the 28l feels less while riding. But for paddling and take off, does it feel like 28l, meaning much easier for paddling and catching wave than a regular board? (I am looking for a board easier to catch waves without loosing the high performance while riding)
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thank you. I usually ride fever or nb2 in 25L. I want more volume to catch more waves. Should I go FE 5'7 in 28L or even 5'8 in 30L (I am 145lbs, intermediate/advanced).
I bought this board thinking it was a thruster. I had no idea it was a twin. Can I get away with riding it as a thruster, because I already have the fins that would work for it from my previous board? I wrote this in the middle of your video, and did not realize until the very end that you covered the question of whether the board can be used as a thruster or not. I'll try it as a thruster first and work my way over to twin one day, thank you.
@@akilaaipa6698 Hello Akila Apia, I feel kind of silly for purchasing the board without knowing it is more twin fin orientated than thruster, but that is great I can switch it up. @@samsterronie don’t feel silly, it’s a fun design. Let’s help guide you to the right thruster setups and eventually a twin plus trailer. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how versatile the design really is. Aloha 🤙🏾
Great Review. I really like good paddle boards, with plenty of foam under our chest, which help us out to catch waves, specially when it is small. Do you see this board (with that extra volume) as a good paddler ? and, can it be a good option for smaller days (1 to 2 foot)? thanks
It paddles pretty good so having the extra foam is key. I think this board is exceptionally fast and fun in 1-2' surf... however the No Brainer and Seaside will paddle better and have a little more speed down the line compared to the FE in 1-2' mushy waves.

@surfnshow question: my mind is blown that you rode that 3 liters above your normal volume in head high plus waves and weren't sliding out. Are you recommending we should be size up that much, and won't risk sliding out on head high + waves?
I’m having no issues sliding out (jumped up just under 6L...) the bigger you get it the more forgiving it’s going to be, doesn’t seem like it’s sacrificing much performance but I haven’t surfed a smaller one yet.. I think the first thing you’ll notice is how much more time you have to read the wave.. rarely need to pump it so you can just relax and draw out your bottom turns a bit more, definitely feels like you’re cheating😉
Thanks Noel for such useful content! I wonder if taking FE in 5’10 wouldn’t be too much for me? I am 42 5’10 165lbs advanced surfer from west coast of Canada surfing most of the time with 6mm wetsuit 3-5ft waves. My everyday board is Pyzel 74 5’10 27L which feels lately lack of volume. Thanks
Thanks Noel for quick reply! I recently noticed that the price for the board was significantly reduced literally in every surf shop. Do you have any idea why? Is there any quality issue?
Just ordered FE in 5’10 only available I found, I will give it a try. Anyway the price was so attractive. The board comes with futures fin system. I am going to try it as twin using my Captain Fin Christenson Keel set for smaller waves. Would you recommend getting NVS Nautilus Apex Series Twin plus 1 or Aipa Ahi Apex Series Twin plus 1 in order to surf it in head height or bigger or any fin set from Futures? Thanks
I'd imagine this board with medium entry rocker will need waves with a fair bit of push, so probably no good if your surfing low period swells in the 1-2ft range, even with extra volume.
Hi Noel, this video is awesome - great review on the Flat Earth, and really helpful in helping to decide which size was right for me. I've also just recently watched your video on proper traction placement, and wondered what your thoughts are on traction placement for this board?
Noel, I ride with the boys at BSR (Andy, Kevin Mark, ED, and Asa). I've been riding a PJHP 5' 8" 32l and a Glazer 5'6" 32l. I am going to purchase this board. Would you recommend the 5'9" 31.8l or the 5"10" 33.4l at BSR? Both are available. Also looking at your HP Keels and the Stabilizer fins. Thanks
I recommend the 5’9” FE with my HP Twins and Stabilizer. The 5’10” might be a bit big and long. The 5’9” will float like 32.3L due to EPS/Epoxy construction.
@@homesledge The HP Twins are different compared to the HP Keels. The HP Twins have a high performance outline. Here is the link to both so you can see the difference between them both. www.shopsurfnshow.com/collections/fins
Hey, Noel. As always great stuff. Do you feel like the 5'7" board floated like it had 28.3 liters or did it feel less? Just curious why you bumped up so high in liters with this board.
The 28.3L 5’7” surfed like 26.5L as a pure Twin Fin. If I were going to surf this board mostly with a twin + trailer set up then I would like the 5’6” better.
The only think off with this board that I haven't seen you do with other boards was on your front side bottom turn to snap your seemed to be vaulting your yourself, really bending at the waist and swinigng your arms up to get more momentum vs just bending your knees and getting drive. Was that because of conditions? Were you tired? Was it the board? Or a combination of some or all of them?
Hey Noel, cheers for all the great content. I'm agonizing over volume decision on this. If you ride boards that are over volumed by a couple of litres (compared to a pro) already could you view this board as an opportunity to surf the correct size for your weight rather than seeking to up size by a couple of litres regardless? I guess the answer will depend on whether you feel you should upsize as it is harder to paddle at your normal volume. Thanks.
I say get it at what you normally are riding. If you already sized up a couple liters on your boards just stay roughly the same volume. If you’re in between two stock sizes then take more.
Hi Noel- great review. I am a "low" intermediate surfer out mainly Uppers/Barbed Wire. I have a "No Brainer" which I enjoy....do you think it would be a huge step to go to "Flat Earth"? Probably would ride with trailer. Thanks

I've only used FCS fins and never used Futures so am I doing myself a dis-service or should I try Futures. When you use FCS forever it's hard to switch when you closet is full of FCS fins.
Stay FCS then... just look at how limited your Twin Fin options are with FCSII plugs. With Futures boxes you can get Twin Fin templates from Futures, Naked Viking, Captain Fin, Shapers, True Ames. Just saying...
The FE offers way more performance in the pocket. The Misc is faster down the line and it will grovel better. My choice is the FE in 3-6’ surf with Twin + Trailer set up. If I’m groveling and I want performance I say Chilli BV2 with Twin + Trailer… best in 1-5’ surf
What would you say are the main differences between the flat earth and akilas twin fin? I have Duke Aipa dark twin and it seems like it has a lot of the same features as the flat earth and I am pretty sure it is the same Dims as that 5’7” you rode 😂
The Flat Earth and Akila’s Winged Twin are similar. I think the Flat Earth is a bit more refined... for quicker pivot and sharper turns and maybe a little exaggerated Concaves. I am not sure about Duke’s design..., it looks similar but I have not seen one in person.
Yeah, I’d honestly love it let you check the dark twin out and compare all 3! I personally love the dark twin. It’s double concave in the back is pretty sweet. It’s 5’7” x 19 1/4” x 2 1/2” x 27.4L.
Fishbeard is a true Twinny…. It’s faster down the line, grovels better and with my HP Twins it offers excellent performance in the pocket. The FE surfs more like a HPSB with the right Twin+ Trailer fin set up. It pivots quickly and surfs more like a Thruster in 2-6’ surf. The FE needs a bit of push from a wave to be in its element and if you want to surf it purely as a Twin you need to size up at least 1L or else it’s hard to control
Quick question Noel, dominator 2 or flat earth? I had a dominator some years ago and it was one hell of a board, loved it... Regards and keep inspiring us ;)
Tough one... both boards are insane. If you want a daily driver that goes mental in 2-6’ surf then go D2. If you looking for something different, that’s fast and pivots quick then get the FE. Either one you will be stoked

That board looks like a radical ripper to ride. Thank you for all the information
Which one would you choose btw this and the rocket wide as a groveler/daily driver ?
I would choose the RW Squash Tail. The FE does not grovel that good
Hi Noel. Would this work as a daily driver? I noticed you have it as twin on your website. We get decent swell here (New Zealand) and I like the idea of the extra volume without impacting on performance too much.
Absolutely

Hi Noel, just go this board, missing the fins now, will fcs2 modern keel be a good match ( my local store has these available) or does it make sense to wait and match it with some other fins
For Twin + Trailer go MR’s. For pure Twin Fin go Al Merrick Keels for maximum hold and drive. They will pivot so so. For best results you want my HP Keels in Two Tab. You can check those out here...

Mini Ghost
Solid review, did you give it a go with the akilla twins without the stabiliser? Still waiting to give mine a go! Driving me crazy having it sitting in my room unused lol
Stoked you got one. I did not try it with Akila’s Twin without a trailer. Not enough fin for me... the board will pivot even faster and slide out on me. I can surf his fins so so frontside without a trailer but backside I slide out on every turn.
Mine has been sitting in my room too for the longest time. I can't wait to try it out! have fun with yours!
update: this board is an absolute beast! love it on steeper waves with a bit of wall, holds like my stepup but just has so much speed! yet to use it in waves below head high (having a sick run of swell atm) but it has great paddle power so i'm sure it'll grovel well.. for anyone unsure about how this board handles steeper drops, as long as you paddle with commitment & confidence, just trust the board! got foam in all the right places, Mr Aipa sure knows what he's doing.....
One last thing.. Embrace the speed!!!

Great review! Have you ever been tempted to try the board as a thruster?
Wanting to buy a board that does it all, twin fin, trailer and thruster for those bigger days when you need a little more hold! Just trying to figure out if the flat earth is the one!
I surfed it as a Thruster in the review. I will surf as a Thruster best with a pivot set. Not sure it’s the one though…..
Is there something special they've done with the fin box placement to allow twin, 2+1, AND thruster setups to work well??
Some boards have the fin boxes more clustered (closer together) and the side fins are set back further off the tail. Fin box placement is a big deal.

Helo.when you say 2ft.to 5ft
2ft mean waist ?

Yes… 2’ is roughly waist high, 3’ shoulder high, 5’ roughly head high or little overhead.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 very helpful.thanks
Noel, if you were to decide between the Flat Earth or the Seaside which would you buy first and why?
I say FE... I like a more responsive board in the pocket and I like to surf top to bottom. The Seaside flies down the line but it’s not really designed to shred the pocket with vertical lines.
Thanks for the tip!
Do you think this board would go good with AMK fins?
Yes.. however be careful using those fins in bigger powerful waves.

I’d be interested to see how it would perform with NVs C drive twin and small trailer c drive. Kind of a bastardisation of keels and twin fins.

Should go to the 5’11” or 6’0”? I’m afraid that 36L will be too much.
The 5’11” at 34.2L is perfect!
Looks like the more volume the more spray out of the turns
Cabianca Medina
JS Air 17X
Lost Sub Driver 2.0
I was re-watching ur review on the Air 17X and looked like you were flying and surfing better than the Cabianca Medina...
How’s this ride compared to the Modern Fish from Akila?
FE pivots faster and quicker rail to rail. The Mod Fish is faster, offers more hold, and grovels better due to the wider tail carrying more get up n go speed. The Mod Fish is more user friendly to. If you have a Mod Fish then I highly recommend the Flat Earth as they surf completely different.

I say size up 2L for sure... sliding out will determine what fins you use.

How would you compare the Flat Earth to the CI Fish Beard?
Fishbeard is a true Twinny…. It’s faster down the line, grovels better and with my HP Twins it offers excellent performance in the pocket.
The FE surfs more like a HPSB with the right Twin+ Trailer fin set up. It pivots quickly and surfs more like a Thruster in 2-6’ surf. The FE needs a bit of push from a wave to be in its element and if you want to surf it purely as a Twin you need to size up at least 1L or else it’s hard to control
