Hey Noel greetings from the UK. Really great to see surfers of different heights & weights all in one vid- helps with considerations when sizing a board model against build & local surf conditions. nice one!
your spot on with this board - have had it for 4 months - like many of you I was waiting for the review to drop and even asked noel when it would drop lol - I caved in and bought it not knowing how it would ride as I never rode a 96..now its the only board I have been riding as Ihaven't taken any other board out - it works in everything! - I'm 195 and got the 34-litre black sheep from the nice folks up at catalyst in San Clemente - love this board. never had the 96 so I cant compare - been riding this board out here in so cal and its been super fun especially with the latest swell we received. I've run it both with a tri fin, and 2+1 - didn't mess with quads - and the 2+1 is the way to go. I've gone thru many boards and noels advice is spot on - just get it!
I have the RNF 96 - i can honestly say it is amazing board! I have it in PU it does everything for me! 2-6 ft easy handles everything. Highly recommended!
BUYER BEWARE....! I bought a Lost Driver 3.0 in Lightspeed from Catalyst Surf Online. Says it was made in Vietnam. Not a big deal except there are no double-concaves in the board and no vee out the tail. It's basically a flat board in the lower third of the board with only a single concave. These boards are getting mass produced with no quality control. Could you do a show on how these boards are made? You say you have a stock Pisces, but it appears as if it's been signed by Biolos. I would assume he gave it his stamp of approval. All the rest of Lost surfboards on the market seem machine produced and differ greatly from their intended design. Basically, I have a brand-new defective Driver3.0. No way to contact Lost Surfboards, either. Go figure.
Had the same issue with a FireWire I recently bought. Called the surf shop to get the number from the local board rep. Board rep got me a new replacement. I would try that route if you don’t have luck with Lost directly
There isn't supposed to be vee out the tail of the Driver. That's one of the major differences between it and the Sub Driver (which does have vee out the tail).
@@benkelley9207 Vee or no vee, the double concave in this tail is flat, non-existent. I felt the concaves on my light speed and the PU driver 3.0 and each board is completely different. Look at all the stock Lost boards in the shop. All machine made and all potentially defective.
Same deal. My pisces is glassed heavy as fuck. I have a pu rnf 5'8 thats my all time favorite. Rode it from 1-6ft. Cant get off it, figured the pisces would go just as good if not better, as everyone says it does. So I got a pu 5'8 pisces, it's .6L less than my rnf, and it feels significantly heavier. Cant whip it around like I can the rnf. At first I thought it would take some getting used too, but while riding it in glassy 3-5ft surf, I was wishing I was on the rnf. Felt sluggish and shitty. I'm over it. Selling because it's a frickin lemon. Biolos- You are botching some of these boards. My advice to you- see the board in person before you buy it- feel it out.
Is the RNF96 easier (more stable) for an intermediate compared to the Pisces being more performance oriented? I have an RNF 96 and thinking about the Pisces cause I love quad fins set up. Thank you for everything!
I'm 6'3(188cms), 180lbs (81kgs), intermediate with aspirations of being advanced, and I live in el Salvador. I have a custom pu Pisces in 5'9 x 20.88 x 2.42 32.9 liters. Its a great board but in my custom dims I don't know i'd call it groveller. These custom slimmed-down dimensions make it more of a waist-to-head and half-board. It's got very nicely refined rails and gets into waves great, better than a 6'8 mid-length I have. In small waves I run will run Noels HP twins, I've also tried his keels in but I don't think they go so well with the pulled in tail. Not really sure why. When it gets bigger, I go to the pivot plus trailer. I think asa is right I could use a smaller trailer but I don't have one, it does pivot great but I think a large portion of that is the significant kick in the last 4 inches of the board and a fair amount of v. Finally, I'd agree with what everyone else said about carrying speed in the flats. This is very true. it skates across the flats great.
Hi Noel Great review! Ive been surfing 30yrs im in great shape id put myself in advanced category im 6.3” 185lb how would you recommend sizing this board for me? My thoughts on the stock dimensions are that i would end up riding something so short to get the width and volume i want and my knees hang of the back when i paddle and my stance feels awkwardly narrow but if i go up to say a 5.10 or 5.11 its soo wide and big it loses performance abilities. This is something i go through mentally looking at dims on lots of boards in this category. Thanks
Noel, did your friend Asa ride your board? ( I’m wondering because he has my height and my weight 5’10 160lb) What size of board do you recommend? Trying to order one for San Clemente area (Churchs, Uppers, t street, etc..)
@@robysurf The Twin Turbo has a performance outline and it’s a bit longer compared to Pisces. The Pisces is a performance Fish that’s ridden shorter compared to TT. I would put the TT in the Small Wave Performance board category. Not much comparison in these two sleds
@@yorodan Great Question… my 3 board quiver if I lived in So Cal. 1. Groveler Hybrid “Pices” 2. Performance Groveler “Supernova” 3. Performance Board Driver 2.0 /Rusty Deuce
Would you say it surfs longer? Im 6ft1 105kg 30 year surfer. They have a 6ft4 at 44litres in stock but a 6week wait for the 6ft3 42litres. Had a 6ft4 bobby quad (awesome shape) but snapped it in some hollow surf and was considering a 6ft2 in Spinetech but none available n also found the Merrick pu construction to be very poor. How would you compare the two boards?
@@douglassolazzo4248 I personally like Black Sheep better than Light Speed. For this type of board I would not get it in PU unless I surfed choppy waves or planned on surfing it in bigger waves as a travel board.
This show and information is so great. This board doesn't look smooth off the bottom turn into the lip. All of the lefts Noel rode, the turns off the top looked kinda of two stagey( if that's a word ) to me. Also, the front end of the board looks too wide and has a lot of foam to whip around. This is the first time I don't agree. I have purchased several boards on Noel's recommendations and been super happy. Sorry
I agree on backhand it turns slower than some of Noel’s other boards (say the Deuce). But given it has wide outline and is designed for small wave, it still performs very well.
Idk the board doesn’t look very fast despite what the reviewers claim. Don’t see much projection… can think of a dozen or more previous reviews on this channel that showcased a board with more drive. Bit of a surprise tbh
@@finnf.4861 Other boards were not in this same board category. This is a performance fish with a hybrid outline. Most other boards have been Small Wave Performance boards, HPSB, Etc….
Can we just take a moment to commend Ian on his positive attitude towards all those people dropping in on him? (I'm presuming he didn't lay into them off camera..haha).
