    Most excellent video. This will be my next science day project for when my Grandson comes over. I'm going to tell him he is going to build his own gaming console. I'll do the RetroPi and update to eliminate the black border. I'm going to have him do the assembly and the mandatory stickers. Keep broadcasting!!

      @@kiwi9402 It's been awhile but I never got around to doing this with the Raspberry Pi. Instead, I learned how to solder and started modding Gameboy Advance's instead :P. If I want to emulate something, I usually just do it on my phone. I do think the project could still be viable, but I'm sure there are newer/better ways to do this.

    I'm curious about the way you record your videos. Is the audio recorded at the time, or are you redubbing over it later? For that matter, do you even talk while you're filming, or do you just silently gesture and point at things, knowing your script ahead of time?

    • @SheepyIsSleepy

      now that you say that im curious as well

    • @BrainSlugs83
      @BrainSlugs83 6 років тому +7

      My assumption was always that it was the latter (redubbing) -- but I don't actually know. -- It just seems like the most obvious choice. -- I bet he mumbles through the script or something similar while recording to help with timing, but then redubbs it after. -- Again though, I don't actually know.

    • @pass6749

    I would just recommend a $30-50 prepaid android phone. It will out-perform this and be way less bulky. I have been doing this with an LG Tribute 5 for years. Actually super nice because the resolution of the screen is only 480p which means integer scaling on NES/SNES (2x) -and- more importantly GBA (3x).

    it's a cool project. but to be hones... at this point you can just strap your old phone to the controller and install the emulators there.
    i'm sure almost everyone have an old phone somewhere in their home. you don't need the phone functionalities.
    the pros - a lot lighter and not so bulky, higher battery life for the size/weight (you would use only the emulation, so no phone coverage, you can play in airplane mode or just turn off the sim and so on), it won't look like put together from scraps.
    the con - it won't be that powerful. unless you use your new expensive phone, emulators won't be as powerful as they would be on the raspberry pi 3

      Eh, my terrible Mali-400MP-powered tablet is able to run Commander Keen in DOSBOX along with many N64 games, Doom and anything i want it to run so it's good enough.
      Sadly it has no gamepad support so while pairing it with a cheap Logitech F310 is a no-brainer it's not possible. And i suppose this is the case with many other old phones.

    • @IcoKirov
      @IcoKirov 5 років тому

      @@TDRR_Gamez isn't f310 a cord controller? what pairing are you talking about?

    Loved the video but I just have one question for you. Do the games come pre installed to the retro pi or do I have to install them?

    I'd like to see this modded to use the PiJuice Hat... That would be sweet.

    How usable would raspbian be on that screen? A dual boot with one of those keyboard/controllers would be kinda cool.

    How do you install retro pi? Do you need an sd card? If so, is sandisk fine?
