Always amazes me how some drivers get it about just how big you are and most have no idea and don’t move over. BTW I love the way that trailer breaks down. All it needs is a flip axel and a stinger.
Yeah…the content is sick and the communication and planning and everything that goes into it…these guys and gals operate at an extremely high level of professionalism
Great haul, I sure thought you were going to drag going into the parking lot there at the end! Was questionable on the off load but they got it done! 👍🤠
This is so amazing to watch! My favorite parts are the turns haha. I love how the cop really made sure you had plenty of room for all your maneuvers. You are a very talented and professional driver!
You know, it's to bad steerable trailers remotes don't have the same capabilities that yacht-controller has: able to turn engines like that pony motor on or off, 500 foot range and simple joystick toggles for the left and right. With those you could have the remote in your cab and use as needed for un-escorted trips where you need the extra control. The yacht controllers are meant to allow the boat captain to have active control where they have best sight while moving in a marina where damage can be extremely costly, not for use in open waters so much the same as the steerable trailers.
That’s an interesting and good comparison! The technology is there. The problem is the budget. In North America we are just starting to get steerable trailers but not fancy stuff. There are systems already on the market that constantly steer the trailers around all corners, the driver doesn’t even need to get out but these systems are reserved for the really big loads. If you watch some of my videos with the wind mill towers for example you will see different and better quality steerable systems.
Grew up in Columbus. They are doing a ton of heavy hauls for the new intel center down there right now from the ohio river. Anyways time to get the popcorn!
Douglas you have to be the most patient truck driver I’ve ever seen. I myself can’t stand how rude some of those people are in those little cars. If they understood how stressful it is to drive a big rig let alone heavy haul just maybe we would get a little highway respect.
youve got MAD skills! All the more respect I have for what you truckers ahve to go through. TO the rest of us, you see a trucker with his/her blinker on, let them in!
Hi Doug, again you show how true a professional you are !! I wish we had more truck drivers like you here in Ontario. Unfortunately we have to many that have never driven in winter conditions. I respect winter conditions growing up in northern Ontario. That was a lot of work to configure and dismantle the trailer components !!
Yes we see it every day the new drivers who don’t adjust their driving to the conditions. Unfortunately people love seeing pictures and videos of the carnage and drama on the internet.
Jeez, you should get paid by the mile and the steps! Interesting video and excellent driving! Kudos to the fork lift operators for their help and professionalism! Thanks for another great video!
I assume those were the rigger’s that off loaded the material separator from the trailer, and their compensation is part of their rigging job. My experience is they are the best at what they do, coordinated moves by multiple tow motors.
You was in my neck of the woods. Wish I knew was coming, I would’ve come helped you and met you. That must have been a new place, I haven’t seen that one before. I moved a shear up from southern Ohio to a place on 17th Ave, it looked pretty close to where you were. Have a good ride back.
I was amazed that with a trailer that long, there was no operator controlling the steering of the wheels either directly on the trailer or remotely from a vehicle following. It's inconceivable that the driver had to stop part way through an intersection, walk to the rear of the trailer, start the hydraulic pump engine, turn the wheels, walk back to the tractor, and move around the corner, then have to stop to straighten the trailer wheels, all the time holding up the traffic. All this could have been avoided by either method I outlined previously.
How long did it take to break down your trailer after unloading. Looks like quite the process. Do you have in the freight contract that the receiver will help? Nice that they do, but surprises me at the same time as everybody's worried about liability instead of doing the right thing.
This trailer particularly is a long process. It takes more than an hour to assemble or disassemble. Usually there is an agreement with the companies shipping or receiving these oversize loads that they will be required to help.
I was thinking the same. find it weird that the regs differ so much that Doug started with no escort and ended up with escorts AND police. There doesn't seem to be a common logic....
It would be prohibitively expensive and cause more headache. Every state has different geography and road layouts. Nothing is stopping a trucking company from hiring escorts. But a load that needs 3 escorts plus cops on the east coast may very well need 0 in Wyoming or the Dakotas.
i am a CDL-A driver too. i have always wanted to do Heavy haul work. cool job man. i wish i did what you do. But i am stuck in a Cascadia pulling a Dry-Van or Intermodel.
Don’t wait for your company to buy a heavy haul trailer. When you have some experience start applying to other companies. Don’t give up on your goals 💪
Come on, Doug. "The best-laid plans of mice and men go oft awry." Lucky you check-scaled that puppy. You know how little sense-of-humor the scale boys have when you show up "over on your (fill in the blank)."
I knew about the (in most cases optional) dolly between the semi and the RGN trailer, but i didn't know that the RGN trailers could be extended or shortened like that, the more ya know!
Hey I love the channel I myself used to drive moving heavy equipment, over size, Iam very curious how you like the automatic transmission. I myself have always loved shifting
This trailer is made by the Temisko company but most brands have similar setups. They are called “modular” trailers because you can replace sections to suit your needs.
interesting process of shortening the trailer and loading the jeep. you should do a video on using the jeep, what does it do, how do you use it etc etc. i know why, but i'm sure many dont! are your jeeps adjustable for weight loading onto the tractor? or do you have different length of jeeps to use depending on the load? i have seen you push the trailer forward by backing up the tractor and jeep to clear an obstacle, that was a cool move!
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll keep that in mind for a future video! We have different styles of jeeps depending on the requirements. 1,2,3 axles and with different axle spacing. Different provinces require different axle spacings.
curious that in Ontario, being so close to the pilot vehicle requirement, that you didnt elect to use one. Also, thinking that on the drive thru Columbus, the police escort was a great idea, Neighborhood looked a bit sketchy.😬😬

If so, how many hours does it take to assemble for the haul back home? How much do they get paid or is it somehow worked into the contract for the delivery of the product...
With these big deliveries the client understands that the driver will need help with manpower and equipment to breakdown the trailer. A trailer like this one can take over an hour just to break down. Obviously the same goes at the opposite end when we load at the shipper. Some places such as at the ports will charge us for the time so we will adjust the freight cost accordingly.

This trailer does have a flip axle but it wasn’t necessary for this load
Just found this channel 5-6 days ago and finished a binge-watch just in time for this latest one 😊
Keep 'em comin'

Mr. Banana does a great job with this videos.

Quite the project to break down that trailer. Good job.
Nice of you to show the break-down of the trailer. I wasn't aware of it being assembled in pieces. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Doug, thanks for bringing back memories to an old man that cannot work anymore. Travel safe!
Great video! Thanks for taking us along, I'm stuck here in Worse Case Ontario, nice to see random places I'll never be :)
Your drone shots really give us a great perspective, thank you!
Great content as always, Doug. Be safe and look forward to the next one!

It’s really interesting watching you haul different types of oversized loads in these videos, keep them coming I enjoy them all

This was awesome! Good job man! Keep it up!!
Seeing that steerable trailer in action was awesome!!
Reminded me of those inner city fire dept long ladder trucks that had a guy on the back to steer rear wheels.
Doug, I learn so much about trucking with your videos. Merci de les partager!
You are a master of your job

great video. thanks
I don’t like dealing with heavy loads or heavy haul or flatbeds, I mostly deal with reefers and I like how I’m in and out and go on my way.
Each to their own. That’s what’s fun about trucking, there are different jobs for everyone!
Tabanack , je suis à Trenton. Ça aurait été beau de voir ça en personne. Belle job.

Unfortunately it all comes down to $$$. If a pilot car is not required by law then the customers don’t want to pay for it ☹️
Great job 👏

Tip for takin’ corners without an escort: if you go fast enough, it behaves as a short rig... though a relatively wider one 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Hi - wow it is interesting what is involved to move a long load - especially the trailer setup!!! Thanks!!!
Yes the trailer setup is a big unseen part of Heavyhaul
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 The trailer is like a giant Lego. It unsnaps here and re-attaches over there. 🇨🇦🍌
@gwgrote5 yes exactly!
Man, I'm glad it's you and not me! Now days it's just a 1 Ton and a 37 ft 5th Wheel Rv.
it is to bad all countries and citys would not get togather and write up one rule book so every where would be the same.

I always wanted to get into heavy haul. I did some push trucking up in Alaska that's about it. I enjoyed doing that as well.

Money well spent for the police escort. You wouldn't have gotten through those streets alone.
I wonder whats cheaper, 2-3 normal escorts or 1 police escort. I know, there isn't an option if that's the regs!
Hello from Germany, We have trailers here that we can pull apart. This is how we also transport these lengths. This is translated with Google
Not gonna lie, when you said you have to pay the policeman, it sounded so much like a bribe lol!

The whole thing was impressive. I really enjoyed the putting the trailer away. Just curious what was your weight empty in that configuration
Somewhere around 70,000 lbs
Hey I love the channel I myself used to drive moving heavy equipment, over size, Iam very curious how you like the automatic transmission. I myself have always loved shifting
I’m not going to lie. The automatic is very capable. But personally I still prefer a manual

What's the typical cost of a Police escort? Is highway different than city?
Typically $300 - $500 per police car. I believe Baltimore is something like $1500 for a night move with police
Did those rear axles just turn 😮
Super cool! What type of loads dictate whether you use a 3 or 4 axle truck?
All about weight distribution. We are always trying to do the most with the least

I understand that they are shutting down the ferry across the Detroit River. Will you be able to use the Gordie Howe Bridge ?
I honestly don’t know what the plans are for moving future oversize loads across Detroit. We try to avoid that area if possible.
Excellent run again. Do you prefer automatic or standard ?
The automatic is doing a good job but I still prefer standard
Was it prearranged that they would help you reconfigure the trailer\jeep after you unloaded? Did you end up driving one of the forklifts?
It was a surprise to them that they didn’t really appreciate on a Friday afternoon 😅🤷🏼♂️

How much turning ability do you lose adding the jeep? It cheats the kingpin over just a wee bit and a bit longer, is that a noticeable difference?

The hydraulic engine in the rear needs to be started and stopped manually. If the engine is left running the remote will reach the cab in front yes.
