    Once the outsole is worn down, you can trim the heal and then sand the outsole flat and basically turn it into the midsole and cement on a new outsole. Works pretty well and you still retain some of the squish that you initially had with the softer outsole.

    • @RyanAlexanderBloom
      @RyanAlexanderBloom 2 роки тому +9

      I’ve heard that this doesn’t work very well. Cured polyurethane, so I’ve been told, doesn’t accept glue or cement well and the sole can just delaminate. Most boot resole places won’t touch them and the results from places that will are not highly reviewed.

      @@RyanAlexanderBloomthere is a lot of adhesives out there. Permabond Flex is one that is recommended for flexible PU. There is so much surface area , I find it hard to believe it would not work.

    Polyurethane soles/midsoles are actually MUCH more comfortable and shock absorbing than any combination of leather, felt, cloth, and vibram as would be found in a traditional boot. You can also attach classic vibram outsoles to them and leather sock liners. You can also 3D mold them to get a better overall ergonomic anatomical fit. See Chaco sandals for instance. Extreme comfort and durability. It’s sort of the best of all worlds EXCEPT you really can’t resole them easily. Once it cures it’s really hard to glue or otherwise adhere a new outsole to it. It’ll never be the same the second time around. If anyone will even attempt it. So it doesn’t make sense to buy a $500 pair of boots made that way. But a $200 pair that are more comfortable… that’s a pretty ok trade. The best possible compromise in my opinion would be to construct the boot in a classic fashion but have a poly layer in the midsole that isn’t “direct attached” to the upper, but sort of floating, so that you could deconstruct and resole the boot more easily. But you still get a shock absorbing layer that will never pack out or lose its loft.

    I feel like you should count the safety toe as a con. In my experience you either are required to have it on the job site or you're probably not going to look at boots with safety toes anyway. Or often there's a no safety toe cap version as well. Seems better to compare these with other steel/composite cap boots rather than call it a con. Great videos. Wish we had as many options for boots in Australia as you guys do.

    I have these and they feel good once broken it, however the leather seems to scuff very easily. I don't do as much hard labor as I used to but just hitting the underside of a stair marks the leather.

    Are the hex nut eyelets functional or cosmetic?
    I can see the purpose of this type of boot but a moc toe is the squarest I want my boot toe to be. Style-wise it just wouldn't be my preference. To each their own.

    I only wear safety boots when it comes to work boots, so your point about comfort for a safety boot to me is me (they are meant to save your toes from being turned into pancake soup). I’m currently using Helly Hansen (composite toe & heel to toe plate) for over a year and they are awesome (only now starting to show wear on the inside).
    Would I trade out for these boots?… not sure. Here in Canada they would have to have the green CSA triangle safety footwear badge before I’d wear them.
    Great video as usual 😊

      I would consider comfort to be the second most important factor when it comes to work boots, I don't know about you but lately I have been wearing my work boots 13 hours a day 5 days a week averaging about 20 miles of walking per day (according to one of those fitness tracker watches) so if my boots aren't comfortable I am going to have a really bad time.

    I will not wear safety toe boots regardless of the construction. My boots of choice are Diehard 6" soft moc toe boots with metal rivet type eyelets and noo speed lace hooks. Currently I have 4 pairs of Diehard wedge sole boots. 2 pair of brown and 2 pair of black. My only complaint is when they are brand new getting used to the wedge sole takes a little extra time. They wear very well and appear to have a Goodyear welt. I always treat my all leather boots with "Bear Grease" waterproofing and since these Diehard boots have double stitched gussted tongues they are in fact extremely waterproof up too about 4 1/2" of standing water. At $80/pr. from RockRooster they are hard to beat value.

    You should check HAIX boots frol Germany. They make some of the best safety boots out there, and they are specialized in firefighter boots. The XR1 and Fire Hero 3.0 are the most popular models. Can you make a review about them?
