Chinese competition is a good thing in that it doesn't allow domestic brands to raise prices higher than they have to be. It also requires that the domestic brands also offer a truly superior boot rather than just relying on a positive sentiment towards MITUSA products. Having said all that, while I appreciate the contribution these boots make to the market at large I am fortunate enough to be able to afford a nicer/higher priced boot MITUSA boot so that's what I would buy. 10 years ago though, decent chance I'd be buying this boot or something like it. Great video. Love the Moctober series.

The fact our government allows that is the issue, can't blame the Chinese for doing what they can for their own people at least in commercial competition.
The obvious problem is that the US or other companies are not competing against a Chinese company but against the Chinese state as well. Since China is a centralized state controlled economy the government can through subsidies and control of labor costs etc artificially manage production costs. That kind of altruism is mitigated by the fact that so many brands, through complex chains of ownership, are currently owned by multinational corporations whose offshore operations don’t contribute to any democratic nation/state and serve only their wealthy shareholders. If I was a labourer again and truly only had $120 to spend on a pair of boots so I could go out and contribute to my country’s economy I’d buy these in a heartbeat. If I could afford more I would search for a privately owned company with fair labor practices that manufactures a quality product for the money. Wish me luck.
I don't *think* you've reviewed a Duradero Moc-Toe yet. Made in Mexico and includes one free re-sole in the price. The customer reviews are very positive. This was a fantastic update video, by the way!
I came here to say this. I took a chance on them after emailing them with a list of questions. They took the time to reply back not only promptly, but with pictures and a video of every piece of the boot that I inquired about, as well as why they chose to use it over say other more "classic" materials. Needless to say, it was enough to sway me to purchase a pair. I'm currently on my second week with them and so far I have no complaints (other than they smell like glue/leather dye). Comfort is absolutely top tier for me, and they are wider than say Thorogood or Danner, which is great for me. Even Thorogood's "wide" wasn't quite wide enough for my feet. (I was an avid Thorogood user prior)
I completely disregarded the first rock rooster video because I thought it was sponsored, especially when in later videos when you would compare moc toes to each other these never came back up. I'm happy to have been mistaken, and sleeping on a shockingly good boot.
Junk products from China being dumped on the US market is bad. If they can make a high-quality product that undercuts prices of American-made products, that’s just capitalism. Most of us cannot afford a $700 Nicks, so this Rock Rooster is surprisingly great quality at a price that we can afford.
Rock rooster sent me a pair of their hiking/black tactical boots about two years ago to review. I use them on patrol as a police officer, every winter and they still look great.
I highly disagree. I've owned 3 pairs rock rooster boots and every pair the junk cork board broke up into chunks and migrated creating voids, and felt like rocks underfoot. Cork board is junk vs hot cork that is bonded to the shoe. Rock rooster are ok , but do not expect a long life. I personally would take old stock die hard or a rocky boot over a rock rooster as a budget boot. For a premium boot go with a thorogood 1957.
Rose, I LOVE my rockrooster VAP611's. I bought a pair when you did your first deconstruction vid on them. I've been wearing them daily in a warehouse environment for almost 3 years now! The Vibram is almost completely worn down but I still wear them because they fit so well and are so comfortable to walk in. I might be the one guy to get these resoled.
i have the rockrooster roberta they are great boots after some easy mods . sand down that sole then glue with 3m 1357 and use a vibram 1321 sole . take out the cork and insole and replaced with a keen k20 . mink oil the whole boot and use paracord for laces .
In my experience with cool max vs merino wool, cool max wicks away more moisture, but it reeks compared to merino wool and my foot seems to sweat more in cool max than merino wool.
I had a pair of these and the upper tore away from the welt within 3 months. It looked like the stitching from the welt was barely stitched to the very edge of the upper leather, barely fastened. I probably just got a lemon but I’ll still probably never buy them again.
Thanks for the review, love your work. I brought the golden fox service boot last year for work and I am happy with it. I plan to sew on a new leather welt, cork and convert it to a black vibram wedge sole when the outer sole wears down (teaching myself shoemaking and cobbling). I have lots of boots but didn't want to use a high quality boot to work. The quality of the Golden Fox and Rock Rooster are good enough for relatively light to medium duty work as long as you maintain them. (I brush off the boots every other day and wipe them down every two weeks with a wet rag. Thoroughly clean and condition them every few months)
I'm very curious to see how something like this holds up to re-soleing... It's got that synthetic midsole, meaning it might need replacing, but if the welt is in good shape it might mean you end up paying only $220-$250 for two full cycles, which is wild...
I just bought these and they are by far the most comfortable boots I own (Carolinas, Thorogood included). I feel like I got a great deal and might buy a second pair.
I bought a pair of RockRooster Roberta (VAP615) boots about a year ago. They have the same vibram outsole and funky insole as that mock toe. First thing I did was swap that squishy insole for cork insoles. Then gave them a good dose of water proofing. I wear them almost every day and they're going strong. What I like most is the huge toe box. I'm very happy with them and hope to get another year or so of use.
Well you did not take into account that there are Chinese product makers that constantly look at videos like this to improve their products. Thats why this new version is much improved than the last one you cut up. They even do the same with imitation products. They keep improving it until it becomes too hard to distinguish if it is real or not. The next gen imitation products would probably need chemical analysis test to prove it is fake.
I have a pair and they don't suck. Comfortable and stylish. I have gotten tons of compliments on them. They have aged nicely with some good looking patina. I would most definitely recommend them. Plus you get a cool little moc toe key charm in the box.👍
Just tried these boots like everything about them but 1 thing that heel liner where it is sown rubbed the living crap out of my heel would pull my sock down. I tried it without the insole and was fine. So I think they need to sow it higher or make sure it is flat. Sucks I really did want to like these boots. Ended up going with Timberland Pro Barstow was cheaper and a lot more comfortable. Could you do a review on them?
Hey I think you are overlooking a brand this and past 'moctobers' that fits in well with the focus of the channel. They have been making boots in wisconsin for 125 years. Russel Moccasin.
the VAP621 which is steel toed is C$149 with import tax in Amazon Canada. I would’ve preferred the VAP611 as reviewed here but the price was just too much for me.
I live in Sydney. I can tell you that no one's heard of Rock Rooster. Maybe in Tasmania they have, but not on the mainland. I've never seen them selling in any shop. My guess is that it's totally based overseas from Australia now. The boots are also American designs.
100% agree and I've lived in 3 different mainland Australian states. I bet most Tasmanians have never heard of them either. I think the marketing team is just pumping up the "Aussie" theme.
Tactical Boots Part 3? Belleville Amrap Vapor, or Thorogood, Belleville 800 ST, Corcoran 985, Carolina combat boots, or the popular Austrian Para Boots (surplus)?
I feel like the $120ish category is turning into a sleeper category. With good build quality available in shoes that, if you compared value to the synthetic sneaker/shoe market, for a 3 year shoe or boot it looks like there are great options out there for many.
I bought these when these (steel toe version) when I watched the other video a year ago. I didn't like how it rubbed on my pinky toes and bought the Keen Cincinnati with Composite Toe (9W). Wayyyyy more comfortable and lighter.
Let's just say the Chinese boot manufacturer have their cost cut down way more than you think... for around $160 you can get yourself a pair of decent Wesco or White's homage boots with Horween leather, Vibram sole, real leather lining, welt and mid soles all that jazz. A similar pair of boots would easily cost double the price in US. Vibram has their own HQ and distributors in China, their soles are readily available at fair prices.
I think the reason why they can make shoes this cheap, is that labour in general is just cheaper in China, and average citizen's buying power is lower, even tho it had been going up this days. If you look up on Taobao, there are like 875 knockoffs with real leather for like 40 bucks or something, knock off brown leather Air Jordans with a GYW with leather welt for like 60 bucks. But then you can't really have a more expensive boot sold there, cuz that's just around the price what everyone expected, a 120 bucks boot on Taobao that is made in China would be outrageous. There are some other Rockrooster hiking boots selling for like 40 to 50 bucks as well, but they are like, your average hiking boots like Columbia.
I would like to see Allen Edmonds moc toe and 1000 Mile Boot moc toe in Moctober. Both are visually similar to the Indy Boot by Alden. I don't think Allen Edmonds shoes have been cut in half on this channel yet.
Well I just bought a pair of Bata industrials Horizon Ultra boots in Crazy Horse leather. Bata say they have partnered with BASF and Michelin to make this boot. Which sounds impressive. I wonder if you have put any Bata boots or shoes through your band saw?
Sometimes you gotta hand it to the Chinese. I have no idea how they make this work for $120 (and it raises the question why everything else at such a price is so crappy...)
Thanks for the review, awesome, I'm off to buy one now :). I'm more on dress shoes (all types including boots) rather than "work" boots which I would rarely use, so these will do fine. I'm not bothered where they are made, I have some terrific dress shoes from China, goodyear welts for like $70 to $150. I also have one from Acme (China), expensive, but highly-rated by dress shoe connoisseurs in the west.
Professional painter here just got a pair of these boots in today and wore them for work. I am massively impressed with the comfort and support on hard floors and they are great when kneeling due to how soft the leather is. I’m still unsure of the insole but I kinda dig it so far, I have a crazy high arch and this has been the only stock insole that I haven’t had to replace yet
I think its been mentioned already, but the common vibram wedge sole is the 4014 cristy, which is made in usa and does not have the yellow logo. Looks like the sole they use is the 377K, which is made in china.
Thanks for all the info on boots. One thing that should be remembered is that companies often pay a portion of the price for a work boot. A good, cheap boot that comes in under the stipend is very helpful.
Pretty sure I've seen that particular outsole elsewhere. Could be a regional thing. Anyway, very impressive for the price. Glad that rockrooster aren't cheaping out on materials.
Funny thing, i walked by the Dr.Marten store today at my local mall, the salesman is busy pitching the dr marten boot to a customer, i almost said F that boot, just get a rockrooster.
If I am remembering correctly, the old Vibram outsoles of t he 1980's were bright yellow. I am impressed with the ROCKROOSTER product; however, the sort of flimsy shaft is a slight turn off. And again another great review. I appreciate you man.
vibram will make you any outsole you want as long as you have the money to order in sufficient quantity. they make custom soles for lots and lots of shoes and boots.
"Made in China" doesn't mean "bad quality" and "Made in America" doesn't mean good quality. iPhones are almost all made in China. I think all Ford Explorers are made in the USA.
I have had a pair of Rock Roosters since your first review. They are very well made. The insert makes my feet sweat too much. In fact, I do not like thick foam inserts, at all. Bad for my feet, IMHO?
I found foam to be a good option when you are constantly walking on a hard surface for a long work day (think 10 hours a day loading trailers). The gell stuff was painful. A well shaped leather hard insole can also be comfortable under those circumstances.
Agreed. So I guess they are made by the 11 year old Chinese boy vs the 8 year old that makes the gold fox junk. There is a lot of stuff that it’s not realistic for it to be made in USA but boots are a different story. If you can save the 120 for this junk why not save a little more And get a boot that wasn’t built from slave labor. Not saying you need to buy nicks or whites or jk but thorogood or Carolina moc toes are made in USA and just over 200 if you shop around and you are supporting people Getting a fair wage.
Ive heard really good things from people who wear 2 pairs of boots interchangeably. Obviously they are going to last at least twice as long as one pair, but you are also giving them 36 hours of time to air out in between use instead of only 12.
I think it's unacceptable that thorogoods don't have a leather welt. I'd buy them all day over these if they had the leather welt. My v series insulated thorogoods are less than a year old and their plastic welt has multiple cracks in it so I'm probably going to just toss them when they start to fail instead of fixing them and looking elsewhere for my next pair. Might just go for an injection molded pair instead of welted.
By the way rockrooster insoles are the best on the market in my opinion. I got a pair for my jim green and it fixes the convex issue of the jim greens. I noticed on my rock rooster with that sole is the sole wears out faster than the older style.
It's hard to imagine a better option for something that you can just throw on and maybe abuse, and just generally not worry about too much. I have expensive boots and I don't love working in them around oil and grease and scraping them all to hell, but I could 100% see myself wearing these for the nasty jobs.
I have a pair of jk300’s with a Christy sole, and I tried a pair of rock roosters with the yellow vibram logo shortly after. There is no way that is a legit vibram sole. I sent the rick roosters back after a few hours of wear.
I would take these in a pinch if I needed boots that I did not care who they were made. But, since you have begun educating me, I will follow my teacher and still buy quality over cheapness and flimsy made boots. Danners may not be perfect, but I got four years out of my last pair Bull Runs and I should spend the money to have them resoled....Thanks for always being spot on with your reviews...
Those insoles are so badass and comfortable, you can stand all day. I bought replacement ones and unfortunately they are not the same thickness as the ones that come with the boot.
Vibram has a color version of the 4014 wedge that they use on more fashion oriented footwear (377K). The white version looks similar to the classic 4014 but it's whiter and has the yellow logo.
It's a shame they don't still make the boot with their own outsole. Vibram is nice, but the dual-density setup on the old one makes them last basically forever; I've just barely worn the corners of the heels after a year of near-exclusive wear working in an oil shop and another year splitting between these boots and my danners building airplanes.
The redwing Irish setter Ashby is fairly analogous boot in a similar price range with a dual density sole. I currently have a pair and have been mostly happy with them, although they are pretty much worn out and not really worth a resole.
@@garethbaus5471 The counter covers on mine have a couple small holes and they need some new insoles, but otherwise they're in great shape. A lot better than when I was going through $40 walmart boots every 6 months.

Frank's Patriots are $350, made in the U.S. and the same as the builder pro and type 2 high lander
Rock rooster sent me a pair of their hiking/black tactical boots about two years ago to review. I use them on patrol as a police officer, every winter and they still look great.
I saw your Boderry review the other week. Was good
Is it still online? I couldn't found this review on your channel

Imagine if them Aussies bought Rockrooster back!... then I would purchase a pair.
Precut cork is very consistent! It wears evenly and tends to have less 'dead' spots. For the price this is a steal!
Yeah.
I used to love merino wool, but I had to stop wearing it after I developed an allergy to it a couple of years ago.
I had a pair of these and the upper tore away from the welt within 3 months. It looked like the stitching from the welt was barely stitched to the very edge of the upper leather, barely fastened. I probably just got a lemon but I’ll still probably never buy them again.
That is the Vibram 377k outsole its part of their sole factor line its softer underfoot than the 4014
Got them a couple days ago for $80 on amazon sale, feel like a thief. 😄
Hey I'm doing the same thing here with some self taught cobbling, where are you getting your tools and supplies?
Honestly that is kind of a win/win in this particular instance, since this isn't a knockoff.
I have a pair and they don't suck. Comfortable and stylish. I have gotten tons of compliments on them. They have aged nicely with some good looking patina. I would most definitely recommend them. Plus you get a cool little moc toe key charm in the box.👍
Mine too! I actually just cleaned mine up and gave them a coat of conditioner and was admiring how good they still look
You can’t see patina beneath paint
Unbelievable - I checked Amazon, and these exact boots are $244 here in Canada, not the 129.99 on the US Rock Rooster site.
the VAP621 which is steel toed is C$149 with import tax in Amazon Canada. I would’ve preferred the VAP611 as reviewed here but the price was just too much for me.
Where in canada? Im in niagara falls ny. Have them shipped to my place and we can meet up.
@@alanmunoz8961same here . Plus they want an extra 12 bucks delivery now to Canada. Seems everyone is drinking the koolaid and buying them though.
Going to start commenting this every videos.
Check out Silverado boots. Made by Abilene boot company. Based in Somerset PA. Claims to be USA made
I would buy British (living in the UK), or American. Not Chinese, although I expect I have some sneakers made there.
VIBRAM DOES HAVE YELLOW TAGS..CONFIRMED OWN MORE THAN ONE..pair with yellow tagged
Would love to see an Urban Shepherd boot cut in half. Great brand that doesn't get enough recognition.
YEEEESSSSS please
2:30 Tasmanian farmers don't look like that. I've met quite a few. Maybe ones that moonlight in the local adult film industry . . .
Sometimes you gotta hand it to the Chinese. I have no idea how they make this work for $120 (and it raises the question why everything else at such a price is so crappy...)
I’ve never met anyone who lives a pure non china life. They may claim but it’s a lie they tell themselves. I can’t afford $400 boots.
I have a Safety shoe by ELTEN and it also has a Vibram sole with the yellow Logo. I've also seen them on other german made shoes like this.
You sold me on them. Just put in my order.
I seriously don't know how I got addicted to watching videos of some guy cutting boots in half.
Have you ever reviewed Allen Edmonds boots?
Thanks for all the info on boots. One thing that should be remembered is that companies often pay a portion of the price for a work boot. A good, cheap boot that comes in under the stipend is very helpful.
Exactly! Some companies only pay once every two or three years, and only about $200. An amount that hasn't changed since the 1990s.
Weston that looks like vibram 377K. Theyre great.
Thanks, Rose, Rock Rooster boots, built for comfort, made to last!!!
Browsing their website, that offer boots almost identical to Lowa’s tactical line of boots for early 1/3 of the price. Wow😮
If I am remembering correctly, the old Vibram outsoles of t he 1980's were bright yellow. I am impressed with the ROCKROOSTER product; however, the sort of flimsy shaft is a slight turn off. And again another great review. I appreciate you man.
These look actually pretty great! My Chaco's have a vibram sole with yellow insert.
I tried these, they squeaked like crazy. Tried a second pair and it too squeaked every step. Hard pass.
Those look like the best work boots you’ve done yet. The price to performance on those is impressive.
I think it would be worth it… I’ve bought wolverines made in china that were good
Stop it. Just stop. I used to dislike moctoe boots, and now I'm considering getting some
vibram will make you any outsole you want as long as you have the money to order in sufficient quantity. they make custom soles for lots and lots of shoes and boots.
"Made in China" doesn't mean "bad quality" and "Made in America" doesn't mean good quality.
iPhones are almost all made in China.
I think all Ford Explorers are made in the USA.
No but it typically means if you buy made in USA the workers are getting a fair wage and not a 8year old child making them for next to notbing
Can you do the Georgia boot moc toe wedge boots. I’m interested in them but wish there was more information on them out there.
Not buying chinese junk regardless
The point is, they aren't Chinese junk. They're Chinese decent
Not saying you need to buy nicks or whites or jk but thorogood or Carolina moc toes are made in USA and just over 200 if you shop around and you are supporting people
Getting a fair wage.
Ive heard really good things from people who wear 2 pairs of boots interchangeably. Obviously they are going to last at least twice as long as one pair, but you are also giving them 36 hours of time to air out in between use instead of only 12.
That, and if you stagger when you get your boots you never have to wear boots that haven't been broken in for multiple consecutive days.
This guy must really appeal to people who don't like China lol
I think it's unacceptable that thorogoods don't have a leather welt. I'd buy them all day over these if they had the leather welt. My v series insulated thorogoods are less than a year old and their plastic welt has multiple cracks in it so I'm probably going to just toss them when they start to fail instead of fixing them and looking elsewhere for my next pair. Might just go for an injection molded pair instead of welted.
But you might be able to have them resoled with a leather welt for less than a good injection molded pair of boots.
The only thing about the vibram outsoles is they wear out in half a year but pretty much is the lifespan of my boots.
Please review Duradero boots! Thanks!
By the way rockrooster insoles are the best on the market in my opinion. I got a pair for my jim green and it fixes the convex issue of the jim greens. I noticed on my rock rooster with that sole is the sole wears out faster than the older style.
please get a pair of RUfflandrers! from william lennon and co!
I’m a fan girl about these brand of boots I personally love the “Roberta” model for the Extra width
can you do a review on the Duradero 8" moc-toe by any chance ? thanks
Dam this is 220 in Canada Amazon what a rip even with the exchange rate
In one hour they're up to $130 on their website.
Not worth it. Everyone is getting caught up in the hype and the company obviously knows this and has inflated the price .
So r u saying that is a fake Vibram sole?
10:15 It looks like you were trying to sneek up on yourself and kiss your own neck.
Surprised it ranked higher than the Ecco’s
Can we share this great video on our social pages?
Man what a wild boot. My one concern would be if the employees are being payed a fair wage or not.
Can you do a video on the Keen cincinnati????
I would take these in a pinch if I needed boots that I did not care who they were made. But, since you have begun educating me, I will follow my teacher and still buy quality over cheapness and flimsy made boots. Danners may not be perfect, but I got four years out of my last pair Bull Runs and I should spend the money to have them resoled....Thanks for always being spot on with your reviews...
As previously stated in this thread, I believe the outsole is the Vibram 377k Christy thick outsole…made of “Newflex” material.
Those insoles are so badass and comfortable, you can stand all day. I bought replacement ones and unfortunately they are not the same thickness as the ones that come with the boot.
Seems like they're worth every penny.
I have these boots. Love the soft insole, but I don't walk 5+ miles a day so the softness doesn't cause leg fatigue.
