Queens Roger Taylor, Guns n' Roses Matt Sorum, Deep Purples Ian Paice, Pink Floyds Nick Mason (on his Ferrari-drumset), Dave Grohl, Phil Collins, Stewart Copeland of the Police, Tommy Lee and some more famous masters of the art ...
btw no i don't own the copyrights to this video-sources, but i guess the BBC won't have a problem with this little funny video-cut, since this is a 'non profit video'...

As a guitar player I must admit that the drummer is the most important member of a band, without a good drummer your fucked!
Boat Axe, that reinforces everything I, as a drummer, have always believed. For a guitarist to say that makes it mean that much more.
The drummer sets the mood. Ringo as generic as he is, he is the best for Beatles. Neil Peart has many fills that fit the playing of Lee, thus the are made to be great together. Cave is a calm drummer, best for Pink Floyd.
Everyone is important in a Band. A great drummer, is nothing with decent members. And as a guitarist, they set the sound of the band. Pink Floyd with Barret, as great as they were, weren't amazing like with Gilmour. And in small bands like Rush, the bassist is also important. Now the singer is the only part that can be replaced if the replaced one sounds the same or sounds even better.
Ringo isn't Generic. He's one of the most unique and distinguished drummers in history. Don't talk about things you don't understand.
Boat Axe - Interesting point. I have pondered this for a while and the way I'd say it is not to much that they're the most important member of a band as each is necessary. However I would say this, the drummer determines if a band is good or great. A couple of great examples are Rush and Jethro Tull. When Neil Peart replaced John Rutsey the band transformed from good to great. When Barrie Barlow replaced Clive Bunker the band transformed from good to great. Everyone in Tool is great on their respective instrument but Danny Carey makes the band awesome. Could you replace him with another drummer? Of course. Would the band suck? Probably not. But it's likely going to diminish a bit. I think that most drummers use their drum set to "hold down the beat" which is clearly very necessary. But a few use the drums as a real musical instrument. Beyond just rhythm keepers, they become part of the music. My two cents.
Flacid House He's usually very straight and always solid. Excellent right hand. See "Help!" The Beatles didn't NEED Buddy Rich or Peart. Wasn't going to fit the mood or the songs.
The point he stated was he was more about feel than throwing 1,800 hit per measure in there. And for all the guys that do that, there's Ringo. Straight-up and solid. A WHOLE lot of guys can't do a good Ringo or anything remotely straightforward. They want to show off EVERYTHING, every last second of the song.
Meanwhile, these dumbasses never realize, "You'll WORK MORE IF YOU BACK THE HELL OFF!" Lol. Bernard Purdie with Steely Dan said that. The master of restraint. I've seen him play from 5 feet away. It was amazing, and he didn't just cram stuff in. It was all as deliberate as if he were paying for each hit.
I have heard from.Kenny Aronoff that Ringo is much harder than it looks when you hear the isolated drum tracks.
I started on 6 string, learned voice, bass, keys and not into drums, which is what I end up doing most.
I'll never be Gene Krupa, but I'm happy to be likened to Ringo. I am told I do a nice, solid beat with a lot of feel and never overplay.
As a guitarist, this is literally one of my favorite videos of all time
35 years ago a girlfriend of mine babysat two toddlers at my house while I practiced one night. If she held their hands they could stand without falling. When I switched from soloing to playing some four-on-the-floor disco those two kids started bouncing up and down right on the beat. They were six and eight months old and could basically already dance. Until this morning I always wondered where such primal instinct originates. At 1:54 John Densmore answered that question---the first instrument, boom boom boom. The unborn gestate in the womb along to changing rhythms, a heartbeat. I'm glad I watched this.
wtf did u just say
he's being profound! gahl!
Kids LOVE that four on the floor beat! So do my dogs. They come in for band and nap in front of the kick. Bernard Purdie with Steely Dan once said if you get the booties moving, you'll always have a job. It's got not much to do with 1,789 hits per measure.
I share 2 jokes, first one from Neil Peart, second from Nick Mason. “How do you get a drummer off your porch? Pay for the pizza.” One morning a young boy tells his mother, “When I grow up I want to be a drummer...” His mother looks at him kind of sympathetically and says, “Son, you can’t do both.” 😎
Two of the best drummers are pretty good comedians I guess haha
All drummers are a little nuts, but that’s good in this tough world. Somebody has to be...
I'm glad that i'm a drummer!
We drummers do think different.
Out of all the music you could have chosen, you chose Floyd. Nice choice. 👍👍👍
Props to any and all drummers. I can't do it at all as much as I try. Thanks for contributing to the collective beauty
How do you get a drummer off your front porch? Pay him for the pizza...
I'm kidding. I love good drumming and Keith Moon is a personal hero (I also like lunatics).
We drummers are a dying breed! We are also known comedians and not known for being angry! Nick Mason's Ferrari painted DW kit with the black Paiste cymbals is epic. Only drummer not here is Neil Peart (who is intelligent and smart).
Terrence Reardon bit dire forecast don't ya think? Drumming has been evolving this whole time
Terrence Reardon That actually makes me wonder if drummers are more likely to die young. It seems like we're always hearing about a drummer of a famous band dying...
Shakes Rear Bonham, Moon, John Panozzo, Cozy Powell all died before their time.
Terrence Reardon
I know, and there are others. It would be interesting to see some statistics. A chart of some sort. Maybe I'll suggest it on dataisbeautiful.
bucky468 Neil has retired officially!
Samantha from the Hole had part of audience reaction correct.
Yes the drums do effect the audience but at the level of the feet and fingers.
It is the bass that gets the torso dancing. Example : observe an audience during a drum solo , they stand still with their toes tapping and mouths open. Without the bass part dancing seldom happens.
Best of all the drums / bass team !
Hole not The Hole.
ROGER TAYLOR ! QUEEN!!!
The drummer is just the person who hangs around with the musicians 😀 & I am an ex drummer myself 👍
Wonderful funny and inspirational video. Absolutely terrific.
Breaaathe..... Breathe in the air
Im crying cause im a drummer cause im very very glad
The thing I find myself doing as I drum to tracks is Humming; I don't know why but it makes it all come together when I play. One constant tone, not multiple pitches.
There is a big difference between drummers who can keep solid time, are unique/creative, play rudiments with accuracy, have limb independence, and know how to compose drum patters/fills that add value to a song vs. drummers that just love making noise, hit things, and bang away like primitive cavemen
SXI96 Well said Sir.Much respect indeed.
I played drums in High school, and drummers I liked were the crazy asses, Bonham, Moon, Roger Taylor from Queen, Alex Van Halen, then I got turned on to RUSH, wow!, and after hearing Neil Pearl in interviews I’m thinking, he’s a fucking Drummer?, a 180 from the boozing, race cars and crash, etc.
All I want is a drummer who keeps time. So many of them make lots of noise but cannot keep to the tempo.

That's my thing! I'm never going to be Bonham, but I can do straight ahead and the the friggin point. :)
Nick Mason and John Densmore...my favorite 2 drummers of my favorite 2 bands!
Nicky & Phil Collins a 2 of my favorite
Same for me
We used to get introduced as 3 musicians and a drummer.
OMG I love Roger Taylor and Phil Collins I want to become as good as they are :3
Roger Taylor is my favorite drummer ever!! Great to know he isn’t crazy and fits in perfectly, and I’m now closer to be just like him
Well you have a shot at being as good as Roger...
What a load of Bollocks! Drummers are drummers. We are the keepers of the rhythm and the beat. We were drummers before we were born. We will be drummers after we die. We will be drummers when we choose to born again......
Nick Mason's adorable... he looks like a Koala, these days. A posh English Koala who plays drums and races cars.
You all should search Google for a clinical study done in Sweden I think on “ Drummers Brains “ . You’ll be pleasantly surprised! We are indeed different but in a very particular special way.

It's all of us drummers and we can control the tides and the moon: especially in the human heart and really in the family, and make no mistake we are a big family; all unique; all having a role to play literally in the society of man.No?

Good one, Dave.

Kieth Moon, there is no Substitute..
Kenny Jones.
I had behind-the-stage seating for The Who in 1980. Watching Kenney Jones execute all of Moonie's chops perfectly was the highlight of the show for me. I'd seen The Who before with Moon in 1976 from a second row center vantage point. They were fabulous that night, but I enjoyed the other show with Kenney more. He kicked ass in The Faces too.
no SUBSTITUTE... ha ha, nice.
I am pretty sure Kenney was asked to leave because he was not up to Moon's or the Who's standards. I believe that is what Pete said once.
god i love manic street
Yeah us drummers are pretty much like that
1:22 rasper?
FRESH POT!!!
From Muse
Great 2 b different
:47 "hey, pert(peart)! i wanna try this cymbal."
I would risk Phil Collins's reference is to Pert, as in Morris Pert (percussionist), with whom he played in Brand X.

Silence Samantha Maloney, you play for Hole. Stop trying to be profound, it's embarrassing to us. Also, Tommy Lee, just...just stop.
Get Tommy Lee out of this video. Lol.

Pink Floyd? Like that lifeless shit is drummer-based!
Longboardsinglefin it's called "pocket." And you work a lot more than doing Rush with a 300 piece kit, I assure you :) and I saw Rush 4x and had a chance to meet them.
