My son was parked with his engine not running at a gas pump waiting for his passenger to pay/put money on the gas pump.
A police officer pulled up behind him and ran my son's vehicle plate number on his MDT screen.
For what ever crazy reason, the screen showed WANTED PERSON.
The warrant later ended up being for an entirely different individual.
My son did not have any warrant amd had not been in trouble for 9 years.
At any rate, rather than verifying the hit, or asking dispatch to verify, the officer, in his zeal, walked up to my son's driver window and asked him to step out of the car.
My son said, "Is there a problem?"
The officer told him he had a felony arrest warrant but refused to tell him what it was for.
My son was afraid by the cop's amgry and rude manner.
He asked Cop to please check again, then asked for a Supervisor.
The officer screamed at him (I saw the body cam footage)..
And breached tbe glass of the window, tasered my son in tbe heart area..and instead of asking dispatch to verify the warrant or waiting for a supervisor, he asked for back up units bevause my son was "not cooperating".
Before 5 minits had passed, my son was kicked, beaten, tazed..and hand cuffed.
THEN the supervisor arrived and said do NOT RESTRAIN him, he doesnt have a warrant.
But it was too late...the cops discoved evidence on my son, towed his car for evidence, booked him in jail amd the jail nurse was mean amd said he didmt need medical attention.
At any rate, they charged my son with a felony posession and are saying he cant supress the evidence...amd just plea to a felony or they will take away the plea deal if he tries to file a suppression motion.
10 months later, that same officer fatally shot a man that had a baseball bat, had dropped it and had his hamds in the air.....
but tbe prosecuter is sayimg the cop acted reasonable and put the cop back to work.
Apparently this same cop has a history of this but the bosses amd prosecuter refuse to do amything.
I think this officer will kill again.
Is he justified by acting "reasonable"?
I was told DO NOT GO TO THE FBI WITH THIS....NOT TO TALK TO THEM OR FILE COMPLAINT.
Anyhow, I reckon we cam't fight city hall amd will maybe talk to civil lawyers.
      Our system is sad

I wrote CAD software and worked on what was called the "mobile" version which was just the software that runs on the laptops in the cars. The other version the dispatchers used - it was the full featured windows desktop application. The mobile version was a desktop application too - but it was full screen and locked and a single window, the dispatchers could open several windows at once. Two of the features I remember fondly were BOLO and record check. They were very challenging to test - both have very strict security requirements.

I was a dispatcher/911 operator for about 9 months. In Arkansas, we can't just get certified online for NCIC; I had to drive an hour away to the nearest state police station and we took a course that lasted about 5 hours followed by a test. I learned two things that I still remember very clearly:
1 - My own name comes back clean as a whistle in a fresh bath.
2 - Yes, we see everything about you. EVERYTHING!! O_O But not your search history, you lucky bastards. But if you have a concealed carry license, we see that. If you have warrant, we see that. We see every traffic violation that you have gotten anything more than a verbal warning for. We see every crime you've ever committed. We see where you live, any aliases you have, and any known contacts. We see the vehicles that are in your name. We see at least one picture of you. Anything info you can think of that you have given to the government in some kind of way, as long as it can potentially pertain to anything that would possibly help if you were to commit a crime or be in danger; it's probably there. So, we don't see that you paid your property tax a month ago. But we do see your height, eye color, weight, pictures, vehicles, addresses, aliases, history, and more.

    • @sammott8557
      @sammott8557 5 років тому

So, this includes marriages, divorces, bankruptcies, every time you sued someone or took someone to court, legal name changes (legal, not just aliases), adoption records on yourself and your kids, your military record, government subsidies you've ever received, the emergency help from the city you got when your house burned down, etc., all that and more? There are like a ton of things the government has compiled on us since before say 1950 or so. A friend of mine has has had a lot of the above, even legally changing his name and no cop ever gave him flack for his history. How much do cops pay attention to or care about our lengthy governmental documentation going way back when?

They're not asking for that because they don't know. They want to see if you have proof on you. It's not enough to merely have insurance and registration. You have to have proof of it on you or in your vehicle.

    • @SpeCifiC0507

Because the system is not flawless, having your insurance and registration on you shows valid, easy to read proof that everything is correct and legal -- similarly it relays that information to the officer much easier and quicker than getting it from dispatch or the computer system (if qualified). Computer software is not flawless, and neither are humans so an easy to read piece of paper and or card directly from your insurance stating you're valid removes the unnecessary guesswork and potential errors that can occur with software and human interaction.

I've got a question about something that's been troubling the communities.
I do not apologize if anyone feels this is wrong of me. rights don't end where feelings begin.
I always hear about "officer safety" and you see them say it about everything. A wii remote is an officer safety issue. Someone recording police is an officer safety issue. Everything in the eyes of the thin blue line is an "officer safety issue"
But what I never have ever heard in the decades of me living is, "citizens safety", "civilian safety" or any issues about it.
Never it being a citizen safety issue that cops drive playing solitaire on their laptops or hit a cyclist while they're texting and driving.
Never it being a citizen safety issue when the wrong house has been raided and the occupants killed because they were defending their home from persons breaking in with use of violence.
Never a citizen safety issue when a cop high tails it out of his patrol car unloading a magazine into a 15yr old boy, before ever saying, "stop!"
Never a citizen safety issue when officers know they're breaking laws, violating people or worse... Murdering them.
Where is the safety for citizens?
Could someone please help me understand where this "safe place" is?
I see yellow and black signs at places where police reside. They have figures of what look to be people hugging and the words "safe place" below.
But I yet to find an officer who genuinely cares for citizen safety
The officer who is looking to help citizens be on there way and down the right path. Not in handcuffs for something petty or that they didn't do. Or worse, dead on the ground for "not complying and officer safety"
THE only reason there was ever an "officer safety issue" is because cops break laws all the time.
No citizen would be upset if those who enforce laws obeyed them too.
You're a moron to think otherwise. Or just a bootlicker who love jack boot societies. Your choice!

Brings back memories. I was a police dispatcher in the Montgomery County PA Communications Center an underground bunker outside Philly. I used to work the service channel doing wants, warrants and license checks as you explain on a system in 1984 for many departments in the county. Hated it though as the cops were jerks and were abusive on the radio, so I left it pretty quickly, call me thinned skinned but I couldn't take the verbal abuse. I still don't understand the lack of professionalism and I understand it persists to this day, but don't get me wrong, I love cops, always have, but I can't work with them in service to them due to that abusive behavior. It's unfortunate, but true, the life of a dispatcher to police is one of abuse.

In the local system yes, but that's not something that would go into a national system. Spillman stores local stuff mainly...but you can use the NCIC portion to see things from other states like full tickets, charges, etc. So in your case, let's say you get stopped twice by a department in GA and one in FL...both have spillman, but both instances of spillman are on different local networks...so neither would be able to see a warning. Only bigger stuff.

great explanation of CAD, can see how this reduces congestion on radio and makes getting info faster. Thank you mark, and Spillman does actually have those features but some departments don't have them enabled...the officers can assign themselves to calls and clear up, and some officers with GPS enabled can be seen on the map, however it's frowned upon for us to change our own status. They want dispatch to handle that and most officers don't know how anyway, or have been restricted in doing so on their access level to the software.

Hey Officer 401. I know you probably won’t see this but I’m commenting on the off chance that you might. I’ve actually been subscribed to the channel since before it blew up and I’m a fan of the channel but I haven’t always had the best relationship with law enforcement in general. I’ve moved away from my hometown and haven’t been arrested in 10 years but whenever I get pulled over in my current city I’m made to get out of the car based on my priors according to the officers. Even if I ask politely to stay in the car they make me get out. Then they say they have to “frisk” the car for weapons to make sure I don’t harm them when I reenter the vehicle. I politely tell them that I don’t consent but they proceed regardless...search the entire car and come up empty because I’m not doing anything. I have a felony burglary conviction from 2010 and a two misdemeanor convictions from 2006 for a concealed weapon and resisting arrest. It’s 2019. I don’t expect anyone here to feel like I deserve a break but I’ve served my time and my probation. And it’s not even recent. What can I do to avoid spending an hour on the side of the road sitting on the curb in my clean clothes at the age of 31 for something I did when I was 21? I’ve been pulled over for “traffic violations” 5 times. I’ve gotten ZERO TICKETS but I’ve been searched without my consent 3 times and each of these encounters takes at least 45 minutes. I’d rather just take the ticket and go about my day like everyone else. It makes me not want to go to the grocery store at night. Any feedback would be awesome Officer.

    • @officer401
      @officer401  5 років тому +39

I would film the incident and immediately hire an attorney. They're not supposed to be searching your vehicle for no reason. Be polite, do as they ask, film it, and hire someone. You can't just go around frisking people if they're not believed to be armed AND dangerous, unless they're on probation/parole and have a 4th amendment waiver that they signed and agreed to as a part of their conditions.

Thx. I haven’t filmed bc these are kinda aggressive and they’ve threatened to take me to jail for nothing. Exact words “city jail will take anything.” I’m not scared to go BUT the impound etc. is a big disruption and I have kids at home. I’ve literally never had a confrontation with these guys. I just politely ask to stay in the car and politely ask that the car not be searched when I’m made to exit but it doesn’t work. If it happens again I’ll definitely turn the camera on and keep it cordial. Thx.

idk if its true in all states but at least in Michigan yes the fact you are a CCW comes up when the cop runs your information.
we have a legal duty to inform the officer we are armed as well however. it would be pretty much impossible to enforce without the cops being able to know they weren't told and question it which is why.
even when im not armed i usually tell the officer that i am a ccw holder but am not currently armed so they don't feel they are in a sketchy situation. most cops really appreciate this and will probably let you off with a warning as a result. haven't gotten a ticket in that situation yet and theres been several over the years.

I would think not. In Georgia, you are not required to disclose that you have a weapon, unless you are specifically asked. I have a Georgia Weapons Carry License, and was pulled over once for blown headlight, with my 380 in my pocket and I never said anything about it, and the officer never said anything either. Just gave me a warning and we went on our way.
