I have watched most of your videos over the past month and I must say you by far have the best videos on UA-cam for karting! You go into such great detail with every video you make and explain everything in simple Laymans terms. I really appreciate you taking the time to make these videos. I am new to karting but I feel confident just from watching your videos. Cheers from America👍
oh yeah Jeff, thanks heaps for the kind words and for tuning in and liking the videos. We specialise with new people to karting here locally in Australia. I make most of the videos for our customers so they can try and fix their own machines at home, just like I used too. its great you guys can use it too. The concepts of kart mechanic are not complex, especially once someone has taken the time to show you a couple of times. thanks for tuning in and keep us posted on your karting life as it expands. if you email me your address and tee shirt size I will send you out one of our new POWER REPUBLIC tees shirts for taking the time to give us some uber supportive feedback. made my day ;)
Would it be possible for you to do a video on the perfect chain tension please? So far these have all been really helpful just our chains tension seems to be really inconsistent and we don’t really know how it should be Thanks
Nobody mentioned reads on those carbs break... just back from track, my gokarts STILL not running properly. Maybe a vid on that repair would be a good idea, preferably in next weeks vid so im ready for the 22nd...
Any chance of getting a tuning video for the Mini Rok Dell 'orto Carby only new to the sport, have watched your need position video but would be good to see a tuning video aswell if possible.
@@PowerRepublic Have watched the servicing of the mini rok carby video you have. Looking for more info on the setup of the idle screw and air bleed screw
for the carby, set the low jet to 1 turn open. for the high jet set it to 1.5 turns open. after the first run , nick the high back a few degrees and go again. the best way to do this is with a easitune or lambda sensor.
Can you explaine how to adjust the low screw? When should i adjust it to get the engine perfect, and what are the low screw doing? Today we only adjust the high screw to get the right exhausttemp at top speed.
once the EGT is correct, then check to make sure the kart hammers off the corners too. if not change the low jet to help the kart off the slow corners. also too, get a lambda sensor if you can, they are the best thing for tuning any engine
Would you guys recommend having an easytune on all 2 stroke karts? And is there any chance of a video on what to be looking for with the Easytune system?
the easitune is an excellent system. Aim for the last orange light off the corner, the 2 greens lights through the mid range and the first red at the top of the straight and you are Gold!
both work once then throttle is open. the low more when closed throttle and from closed -open. the high is in the Venturi of the carb and is used mostly once the throttle is WOT and air speed increased with RPM. If in doubt use 1 turn open on both the high and the low, then fine tune the carb using a Lambda sensor. hope that helps
Gday mate, Love the videos been good while stuck in lockdown! Just wondering if you have a safe setting as a base line for an X30? mines currently on the previous owners settings.. I was able to take it out once before the lockdowns kicked back in and I did notice the engine running pretty cool, about 35-40 max which i thought was too low, could that be carby tune related? cheers!
was the it a cool day when you went last? if so cover the radiator up with race tape until the water temp hit 55 degs. Is it the Tyrton or Tillottson carb?
You think one could run such carb on a Reed fed 30hp Vespa engine 150cc ? Engine gets into the powerband at 7500, peaks at 12500 and revs to like 14k. Some people even run DD2 Rotax Barrels on vespa so i think it should be possible to get it to work ? How do Tillotson handle low Speed situations ?
yeah give it a go, carbs are easy to tune with Low and High jets seperated. however, most motorbikes I have seen use a slide carburettor instead of the butterfly style go kart carb. so keep that in mind
Hi power republic could you please do a video about the carb slide in a Rotax max as I have been told it shouldn’t open past the copper pin is this correct and if so is it just a case of adjusting your throttle stop thanks
that was the case with the old style none EVO's. The new senior MAX love wide open though. but yes the copper washer was the go and we used to do it with the throttle stopper
most tuners use egt for tuning down here in Fl. do you end up with the same egt in relation to your sweet spot using lambda? i'm very curious to find out. i have the aim lambda but i find myself not using it much since i cannot use it on race day.
Can I use the EGT to measure the right settings? And if so, what would be the ideal EGT for an IAME Super Shifter 175cc with a Tillotson card, about 650 degrees? (I’m currently adjusting the Tillotson carb without the tool, I’m doing it with my hands, always trying to guess the approximate settings.) Thanks in advance.
Hey PC, I haven't used an EGT for years as I find them to vague. I have heard that 100 degrees from high to low is about right and 650 max. during engine testing I have found the tune/power readings can be way off and the EGT is still reading correct. I'm sure with some practise you could get them to work, otherwise save up and invest in a Lambda sensor (easitune is my preference www.easitune.com.au ) and then tune it as you drive.
Power Republic Derek what’s the price for the easitune? (I’m trying to read the information but it’s a bit blurry) does it come with everything that I need, even the Lambda sensor itself? Thanks 🙏 (I have an Alfano 6 but I think I need to buy the expansion box where you can connect 12 sensors, but it’s expensive and then I still have to buy the lambda sensor itself, which will make a total of more than 500€!! - so the easitune might be a better/cheaper option?) Thanks 🙏
Hey XM, yeah you can display the data in many configurations. I like to use the measures graphs feature in aim software and tune to the 2 decimal places on lambda values ( i.e 0.93 - 0.99 ). but in the video we made I also showed you guys how to look at it on the GPS maps represented in colour code for the scale perimeters that we had set. either is fine, so use what you like to get that tuning perfect so you can take some race victories!!!!
@@Surfo1980 I use the lambda over the AFR scale personally. either is fine, but I use the Lambda values. also too, I find it so simple to use on track as the number show up on the dash and I can change the high and low needles on the X30 on the fly. make Childs play out of tuning the engines IMO
Hi Andrei, I don't have a lot of direct experience with the KZ carbs, but I would use the same sort of techniques as I would with the Rotax style carb. the KZ carbs you can change all the little jets inside too for more adjustment.

tightening it leans the engine, you can cause quite a lot of engine damage if you make it too lean though .
