We used the “slotted” column when you want something in between the bottom and top holes the standard column provides. Using the top holes in the “slotted” column reduces steering input but not as much as using the top holes of the standard column. Worth having.
After moving one side, you said do it up nice and tight. The video shows that you do what I do. Loosen both sides slightly first, so that it is easier to move the roses, washers and bolts, before tightening both sides.
Great follow up and info! Thanks Dez. Since you’ve been covering the front end a quick video on caster/camber or ride heights in this video format would rock!
g'day mate, I suspect the answer may be different based on where the Ackerman adjustment is made: If I were to adjust to the tope hole on the steering column, would I likely have to recheck toe after making the adjustment. If I make the adjustment at the spindle, would I likely have to recheck toe after making the adjustment. Really appreciate your tutorials always looking forward to more. Be well
love watching these videos ... i am a dirt kart racer so a lot of things are different to what the bitchi guys do, but i have still learnt alot from your videos. i really wish you did some dirt kart stuff too
Hey Nick. awesome mate, thanks for tuning in. I haven't ever been dirt karting, so I can't speak directly to your problems. However karts being what they are, I'm sure most things on our channel should be able to cast a little light on the subject for you. where do you go karting?
@@PowerRepublic Yeah mate, the stuff you share on the channel has been really helpful. have been able to learn all the basics and get an idea on what will happen when i make adjustments. Dirt Karting is awesome mate, you need to give it a go. i do AiDKA and SKAA. i am in Darwin so i go to the local tracks at hidden valley. ( top end dirt karts)
hey Sal, thanks for tuning in. definitely test them our for sure. for the most part, speed comes from the driver IMO, the changes will help with the feeling and maybe you can drive it faster. Good luck and let us know how it goes for you!
Love your videos, I am new to karting . But I cant see when that Ackermann comes into affect as the steering wheel doesn't turn anywhere near that amount on track, Just goes from 12 to 1 position or 12 to 11 ! when would you ever turn the wheel so much ? Thanks in advance
Unrelated question, I know you’ve done a few awesome videos about the X30 Super 175cc including the Dyno test, here is my question.. Any idea how the IAME X30 SUPER compares to the IAME OK direct drive 125 engine? I know the X30 SUPER has a lot of torque and it flies coming out of the corners, but I’ve seen a few OK engines at my local track and they are super fast, but which one is faster? Any idea? Thanks in advance
I haven't got an OK senior engine to compare. I think the OK engine karts have a weight advantage too over the 175 which is a little beefy. are you planing on racing in a class where you have to choose>?
@@PowerRepublic Thanks Derek, yes you are right the OK engine is so light, and yes I need to choose between the X30 Super or the OK engine, obviously whichever engine is faster would be better, although I like the fact that you don’t need to push the X30 Super to get it going, that’s pretty convenient- Any idea of the top speed of the X30 Super on a track with very long straights? Which one would you go for?
@@p.c.h.6721 the top speed isn't insane on the super X30. they do have incredible bottom end, but above 12k rpm the power is back to normal, and its hard to rev them much past 14.5-15k RPm. if you have a high speed track, maybe use the OK engine
Hey AA, I love the jecko seats. maybe the close edge over the open edge seat. but not for the tall drivers. also too, some padding in spots help customise the seat fit. Still, hard to beat a Tillett T11 in a Tony Kart Racer 401R in my opinion .
I understand the Ackerman Principle - I don't understand why the outer wheel starts to steer back in the opposite direction before full lock. Could you explain that one please? Thanks
It’s because the steering column is rotating and the pickup point goes past the maximum - think of it like a crankshaft and tie rod is like a conrod. As a general you should never be using that much steering, even in the wet unless you’ve gone sideways and you’re running out of talent.
100% correct, a wheelie is a must after changing the ackerman. my bad, should have mentioned that in the video for sure. if ya wanna see me do mad wheelie skills??????Then check out our sniper/wheel alignment videos
i would start with the kart in its standard form, as it was delivered from the factory. with new tyres. then make a few small changes each session or 2 as required. if you are new, leave it standard for the first few sets of new tyres until you can highlight the patterns of problems as they arise

Fraz, agreed, definitely worth having in the kit. thanks heaps for tuning in, sharing the videos and giving us your feedback in the Comms1

I love these man. I’m trying to learn everything I can and these are super helpful.
epic news, thanks for tuning in and sharing the videos!!! are you new to karting?
Another good Video Dezzy, the wheel alignment will need to be reset after the adjustment too to maximize the adjustment
Hey MB, yeah for sure, totally forgot to mention that in the vid.

I guess its cause the arc or radius the tie rod end takes as you turn the steering wheel.

why does the wheel turn backwarsd at the start? is it abs?
nah its the steering shaft where the tie rods attach. they are a little off set from the centre line, Ackerman steering
2:32 I hate that these aren't shanked. The extra strength isn't really needed but it looks sloppy. TonyKart can do better.
