This is genuinely a video I keep coming back to when I'm feeling down. Quagsire and slowbro are two of my favourite water types and it's weirdly uplifting to know that those two are tearing up the tier list without a single thought in either of their heads
Update for Scarlet/Violet, Quagsire is still in gen 9! What’s more hilarious is that he has a brother! Introducing Clodsire! Grass possess no problems for his brother. Being poison neutralizes grass and with water absorb, Clodsire happily showers itself with water! They both also can be unaware the world around them. His brother is more physical than the original Quagsire. Still though, both sires happily accompany each other!
@@Giratina575 Indeed! Derp sire brothers! XD Non competitive wise, the community overall loves Clodsire! Unaware should have been given a hidden effect, where moves like Taunt are ignored. It would have been very true to the pokemon that get the ability...and who knows, maybe it would make the ability selection matter more than just asking, "How many Kyogre will I face today?" :)

Gen 6 and 7 Octillery is a Pokemon that's basically screaming: Octillery: Can I have a Mega Gamefreak? Gamefreak: No! Octillery: Okie Dokie! I'll stay in PU...I guess....
How could you NOT love quagsire? It has mediocre stats, lots of checks, and it's clearly stupid, yet it keeps kicking ass and annoying everyone no matter the tier it's in. Respect.
Daniel Llanos I fear the day Quagsire gets buffed. This thing is an abomination on Hardcore Stall teams, and the last thing Singles need is Stall buffs.
I don't know about that. Despite it's utility, quagsire it's nowhere near to being used frequently by players compared to other mons. Sadly, this pokes don't get that much love to deserve the treatment.
Daniel Llanos The reason Quagsire doesn't get enough usage is that aside from Hardcore Stall Teams, quag is dead weight. Take Toxapex for example, amazing on stall while splashable on balance teams. If Quagsire gets buffed to the point of being viable on other teams like balance, Stall wil be unbearable.
MD3 Fan I agree, but it is also because quagsire is one of those pokemon that are seen as average, and people tend to use badass and more known mons like garchomp, metagross, etc, overlooking its potential.
This one is my new favorite lol After the Smeargle one. There’s something really funny and heartwarming about Quagsire just showing up in higher tiers and doing whatever it wants while the other mons are like “Wtf...?”
"And not much changed about Quagsire in the transition to Gen 6, as it probably watched the emergence of Fairy-types and had absolutely no cogent thoughts about what that meant." Guess Quagsire and I pretty much share the same trait, eh? Being unaware to the world around us.
Quagsire was actually OU for a while in ORAS, then some of the stuff it dealt with got sent to ubers and also the meta just shifted and made quagsire a niche pick, again.
I was surprised it wasn't mentioned when it went to OU when Baton Pass chains got popular and lead to Clefable rising as an Unaware user over Magic Guard
As someone who's played around with Ditto a lot, I think I can answer this. Before gen V, Ditto was awful, setting up with transform means a dead ditto before it can do anything. Beginning in gen V, Ditto was pretty decent, because with a choice scarf and imposter it can outspeed anything. Playing around ditto is surprisingly difficult, because imposter copies setup, so Ditto is one of the best counters to setup sweepers in the game. If your team can't handle your +2 attack Garchomp, Ditto can just sweep you. Ditto plays really well against aggressive teams, but can do pretty poorly with stall teams. Ultimately, how good Ditto is depends on how well designed your opponent's team is to counter itself. If you have a garchomp and five pokemon that can be koed by earthquake or outrage, you're in trouble. However, Ditto's reliance on choice scarf to guarantee getting off an attack means that it can be played around, moves like protect can pretty much guarantee a free switch if you have one available to you, so its still not top tier.
Really?! The guy who tells about the Pokemon's competitive history in these videos told that Quagsire got into Ubers once but only for the sake of checking Kyogre!!
Honestly I'd love a "How good were the Water/Grounds actually?" Because there has basically always been a presence of at least a couple punching above their weight class, whether it be Seismitoad holding Sword and Shield together when Dracovish was allowed, Gastrodon winning two world championships, Swampert defining several metas, and Quagsire not giving a s**t what tiers are.
Fun fact: in May 2016, during usual tier shifts, Quagsire moved from NU to... OU? at once? That was due to the rise of Stall in OU. Still, it jumped THREE TIERS? June? still there. July? hasn't changed. Still hanging on. It took until August for it to drop to UU, but by September it was RU, and October had it back in NU. Just to show how crazy this thing is.
Thing is, when rises happen they rise to the tier that uses them. If something in NU becomes popular in OU it'd make no sense rising it to RU when it isn't used there. But yeah, metashifts that favor stall usually meant Quagsire got better.
Quagsire has always been used in OU. It's just about meeting the usage requirements and with the Unaware ability it has a role in stopping setup sweepers on stall teams. So when stall becomes good/popular, it usually means Quagsire got better also. Although in this specific example it is due to a stall team that was really popular at the time.
This video is giginv me goosebumps no matter how many times I rewatch it. The ending is just like the conclusion of a fairytale! One of the most iconic and best episodes ever for sure, and forever in my heart :>
Unaware is such a fascinating ability. You're basically forcing your enemies to fight without the power creep that defined future generations as setup moves became more common. Way to keep everyone honest.
Love Quagsire. Caught a shiny Wooper in Emerald, used it for years after. Genuinely glad to see it was just as wild and wacky in competitive as it was on my team.
Reckless, Access to such incredible moves like Close Combat, Brave Bird and Double-Edge or Return... But seriously moved apart from OU, probably because its defensive stats.
Reckless and Intimidate are two very great abilities to chose from. Also it has a strong moves but not that huge pool to choose from. Also look at it's hairdo! That is so fucking punk!
yeah maximum attack investment shaggy still can't 2hko it, and with recover boosting only a double crit will let shaggy kill, if quag gets a stockpile or a burn shaggy might have to switch out.
Although theoretically sash wobbuffet is the best counter to maximum instinct shaggy With sash wobbuffet could live 1 hit and remove it with counter easliy since shaggy couldn't switch out.
Quagsire is the epitome of Smogon’s fails as a competitive organization. He’s here, he’s there, he’s everywhere. What tier is he in? Quagsire the Unaware!
Back when gen 5 was the current gen, I used him on my UU team to fight Ubers. I swear they never saw the Unaware ability coming. They all thought water absorb. Then a nice swift counter lol
Smogon is based on usage. That's why they sometimes make up high tier strategies for Pokemon in RU or lower or why they tend focus on something being outclassed even though it's OU
A Ghost ok in gen 3 Very good in gen 4 Bad from gen 5-7 it just got outclassed by garchomp and now it had ddance over chomp but there's still zygarde. Unless it gets a mega it won't be very viable in OU
Swagford95 well we don't know yet when they make gen 4 remakes they probably would make megas. Imo it was dumb for them to release so many megas at a time. It would be better with like 5 or 8 megas a game like for example in the gen 4 remakes give the starters a mega and give iconic mons megas like staraptor, honchkrow, luxray, gliscor(new lando maybe) but that's just my opinion
No wonder why quagsire doesn't give a shit about anything, it's literally in every teir except NU/PU ._. I wonder what tiers gamefreek wanted quagsire to be in
@@matt54740 Given that all of its base stats end in 5, it would be cool for it to just get small buffs of 5 across the board to end in 100/90/90/70/70/40, or even just raising its physical and special stats by the same amount. Quagsire clearly only needs a tiny numerical boost to become truly effective.
I'm a total Pokemon casual so I didn't understand most of what you said but I still watched the whole video because I love Quagsire and the way you mixed its personality in with the technical stuff about stats and moves was really funny!
The gist of it is Quagsire has bad stats, its movepool is only so so, and there are multiple pokemon that does its job far better. And yet somehow Quagsire continues to check some of the strongest pokemon in several generations. In the current generation Zacian is the strongest pokemon and yet it struggles to breakthrough Quagsire. Meaning even though Quagsire should be bottom tier, people are still using it in the highest pokemon circuits.

Quagsire in Gen 7: Smogon: Your stats suck and you're RarelyUsed. Quagsire: ..... :) (Current B- Viability Ranking in OU). As for its Water/Ground bretheren... Swampert? Dropped to total irrelevance in OU. Only its Mega is doing anything viable and that is only in rain. Gastrodon? Plummeted into PU. Seismitoad? Lol. As the video says, Quagsire just does not give a fuck about your tiers or "niches". It goes where it wants to go, and does whatever it wants to do.
its a bittersweet feeling, because my favorite pokemon are swampert and quagsire. I'm happy that quagsire finally got the recognition it deserves, but my other baby swampert :(
I just love quagsire. There is nothing I love more than a game character that defies tier lists, making it difficult to say if it’s good or not. It’s as based as defying destiny or a prophecy.
I keep revisiting this episode a lot, Quagsire's skyrocketed to one of my favorite pokemon just because of how doofy he is, both aesthetically, and from a competitive standpoint.
"How good was Quagsire? Man I don't fucking know." Legit the most honest thing I've ever heard. Anyone on P.O back in gen 6 knew that thing could run a train if you didn't have the right thing to keep it in check. Other times you'd laugh at it when it came out.

I don't know why, but the idea of Quagsire staring down a Kyurem-Black with that goofy smile is hilarious.
This is genuinely a video I keep coming back to when I'm feeling down. Quagsire and slowbro are two of my favourite water types and it's weirdly uplifting to know that those two are tearing up the tier list without a single thought in either of their heads
Especially rn quagsire is firmly uu while its regional variant clodsire is great in ou
The derp twins
@@Giratina575 Indeed! Derp sire brothers! XD Non competitive wise, the community overall loves Clodsire! Big, squishy, and derpy looking, the poison Pokemon is very loved
Competitive, as of right now, Clodsire gives off as a respected Special Defense. Being able to utilize Unaware, Clodsire ignores the stat changes and his Special Defense is pretty high. He also possesses moves such as Recover to make him last longer than usual. Overall, Clodsire is well loved and respected much like his counterpart Quagsire XD
Also the sires are hard counters to Zacian, an AG tier mon
Also, Quagsire is almost entirely outclassed by Dondozo in stall teams - another physical wall with unaware
Competitively good? Competitively bad?
Quagsire doesn't care, He's just happy to be here.

How GOOD was Ditto ACTUALLY?
Yeah. I'd like to see you explain that
April fools day is not far away. That is a good idea.
How good was it’s opponents?
Was only good when it got Imposter usually it was used as a anti-setup or revenge killer.

I remember that time. It was so annoying but once everyone got the trick it disappeared.
Just to wait in the shadow and crush your dreams again...
I was wondering if he'd talk about that
Thing is, when rises happen they rise to the tier that uses them. If something in NU becomes popular in OU it'd make no sense rising it to RU when it isn't used there.
But yeah, metashifts that favor stall usually meant Quagsire got better.
I know, but here's the thing: How did a pokemon like Quagsire, NU, somehow become very popular in OU in such a short timespan?
Quagsire has always been used in OU. It's just about meeting the usage requirements and with the Unaware ability it has a role in stopping setup sweepers on stall teams. So when stall becomes good/popular, it usually means Quagsire got better also. Although in this specific example it is due to a stall team that was really popular at the time.

Low judging from its stats, but it was given many gifts over the years. With better stats, it’d be totally top tier.
@@jacobdyingextraordinaire4805 they really should give him more hp and defense
