- This is the first run on this machine after a top end rebuild, with new piston rings to cure an oil burning problem and the valves were cleaned, polished and ground in. The carburettor settings and ignition timing were also attended to.
Really like the way you managed do capture the engine sound, instead of the exhaust. I like my Interceptor 650 a lot, but your engine sure sounds more interesting. Congrats for the great bike!
Thanks!
What a majestic and macho looking bike!
Exactly like a real bike should look like!!
Sounds great too..
I bet, it must be a really pleasurable, rather ecstatic experience while riding this, especially for long rides!
This thing is just too good!!
Thank you!
That is a proper one Paul. I'd still prefer this one over a new indian copy any day of the week.👌😉
Me too!
Another very sharp looking RE Interceptor. Sounds nice too!
Thanks!
A sllight hesitation and might there be a slight tad of clutch-slip? But the engine seems to be very strong though. Nice bike! Very nice!
Thanks. I think that slight hesitation might be cured now - the charging wasn't great, giving around 11.5 volts [now fixed] and this might have had adverse effects on the Boyer electronic ignition already fitted to this machine. there was a bit of clutch slip and that might also be ok now, as there was weight on the clutch pushrod, which has now been adjusted off.
I wish the new interceptors sounded this good. I know they put a 270 degree in the new ones to help stop vibration, but to my old ears the 360 degree sounds better. Thanks!
I totally agree!
Do they all have a rattling sound to them?
Certainly has a nice growl when it's working hard, and gives the impression it could easily carry a taller top gear. Roughly what sort of top speed did you touch? Indicated only of course, not real speed ;-)
Ray
Going by the clocks, 80 mph would be at 4000 rpm, so 120 mph, which is about the top speed would be at 6000 rpm, which seems about right. Like the Bullets, there is a big jump from 3rd to 4th gear, but the big engine isn't bothered about it, although the clutch slips a bit when you give it a handfull !
KNow nothing about this type of bike , but I like the old school look anb sound.
Looked and sounded strong up hooligan hill. That'd be a joy to go touring on. A result you can be proud of.
Thanks!
Beautiful old bike
Beautiful look .India should make it .
Do you also like / work on the new generation of Royal Enfield?
No, I am not so keen on them and not a big fan of electronics and fuel injection, ABS, etc, either. Generally, I have a cut off date of 1980, after that I lose interest.
@@paulhenshaw4514 Fair play. I have a few Hondas, some as late as 1982 and they still don't have any of that guff fitted. One is a 400N Superdream.
Aspirational!!
I enjoyed that! A beautiful bike. I think I want one! My C5 Bullet EFI with sidecar is great fun but I'd like an Interceptor or Meteor.
What a beauty! You've done a proper job. They're so rare, especially in the 'States. The last time I saw one over here was in the 1970's.
Your neighbors got to love you !
They make as much noise as me and we all get along fine!
Superb!
Thanks!
Gorgeous. Well done.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful bike and sound!
Your little ride-alongs are always a huge pleasure. I can't believe you always get such superb results with the modest gear and "Farmer Giles" bungeed setup you helpfully described at ua-cam.com/video/okExHYdMEs4/v-deo.html.
Thanks for that!
Could have placed the camera at a better angle. What's the top speed?
About 120 mph.
that is soooooooooooooooo sweet !!!!!!!!!!!! im creaming my knickers!!!!! thats the bike i want!
Great bikes and stunning lookers, too, aren't they?
@@paulhenshaw4514 what year is this one then mate?
If I remember, it was from around 1967/8
@@paulhenshaw4514 cheers man. i want one actually . they came out the same year i was born ('62) i used to see them going shopping with my mum hammering up the road in south tottenham. ive not been on a bike since about '83ish though but im feeling the urge again
Camera angle not correct. Focus from crossbar on to the road.
Thanks for that, I never would have known!
Is the valve clatter normal?
Most of what you hear is my camera mic picking up sounds we don't usually hear, rather than the engine actually sounding that clattery.
