    I really can't understand why Sony hasn't released a EVF for the ZV-E10. With the intelligent hot shoe I'm pretty sure they could. They could also improve the menu system to be touch screen enabled. I've always thought that just having touch focus is such a waste of a touch screen. Canon menu system and touch screen has always been superior in my opinion. I've mentioned before that I bought a 90D not long after I bought the ZV-E10 and I much prefer the general usage of that camera even if I still can not afford to buy the lenses that I want for it. I'm glad you are doing more than just Sony reviews now. Canon has been my favourite manufacturer for many years but I'm always willing to experience other systems hence why I bought the ZV-E10

      I’m a nutshell here is my review - it’s a full canon cinema camera without the ND filters. It’s amazing but it’s autofocus in video isn’t perfect. If you wanted one off the best photo cameras in the world AND a cinema cam for shooting pro work like documentaries - there’s nothing like it.

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Sounds good. For me it comes down to do I want to spend $700 more for the C70 which has built in ND filters, or go with the R5C. Tough choice.

      @@AllThingsFilm1 it is a really tough choice. For video I’d lean toward the c70 for battery life and ND and button layout (and a little better dynamic range). BUT the R5C is full frame and an amazing photo camera.

    Heyo Mark! Left a comment a couple of days ago about the possible issue with the use of the hotshoe on the ZV-E10 while using the Smallrig Cage. I splundered and got myself a Doug + the cage. Needless to say, Smallrig updated their cage! It now has a notch in the NATO rail at the top, so the hotshoe is again fully functional!

    Hi Mark i have just purchased the R10, thanks for a great video. i had been using a canon 80d for about 3 years. I was going to step up to 90d, but sales lady recommended the R10, said lighter, has more fps, and canon really pushing wildlife, so have the animal tracking auto focus. I had my trusty 100-400mm mk2 on 80d all the time, and used my 700d for other lenses. I didnt want to spend nearly £3000 on the R7. Not had a chance to test R10 properly, just a few photos of birds on feeder at full range. Was impresssd with EVF, and the colours straight out of camera on AV. Have looked at a video re settings. So my first mirrorless. I guess my main concern is R10 has no dust or weather sealing, p
    Will have to be careful re battery shots lot less, but purchased a spare. So will have to be careful. Hopefully made the right choice over 90d, and first mirrorless camera. Off to a zoo next week to try it out

      The 100-400 II is a great fit for the R10/R7, basically the same or even better than the RF 100-500L.
      I was the most impressed as i saw how good the IBIS of the R7 and the 100-400 II work together, nearly as good (or as good) as the RF 100-500.
      I saw in vacation the R7 for a similar price i would pay where im coming from for a R10 so i just hoped its not a bad deal and at least does what the EOS RP is incapable of. And it wasnt, after 2 months i even sold my full frame camera, the R7 is good enough to be the main camera.

    Hey Mark! I've recently been binging all of your ZV-E10 video's (as a lot of others probably do), and you've been making some great content for that. Love the way you manage to keep me entertained and informed at the same time! I had a question about your setup in the ZV-E10 Rig Build video you made back in November! I've heard and seen some complaints online how the hot shoe on the ZV-E10 is blocked due to the Smallrig Cage. Have you got any recommendations on getting any type of hotshoe extention with that specific build? (or do you maybe have intel on a V2 edition of that Smallrig Cage?)

      Just a question... do you enjoy it?
      I began with RF 800 and full frame camera (really enjoyed it, just wanted sometimes more than 800mm), but as i was going to the R7 and so effective 1280mm... OUCH! I instantly looked for a zoom lens and ended up with the Sigma 150-600C which is MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE than the RF 800 (and was cheaper).
      The RF 800 is an awesome lens, especially well stabilized and light for 800mm, but on APS-C its just too much often and the F11 doesnt allow for proper, sharp wildlife photography in the woods for example, at best video with 1/30 to 1/60 shutter speed.
      The Sigma give me 240-960mm uncropped (for 4kfine and 120 fps slowmo), in 4k60 crop video something like 400-1700mm. Also its a lot brighter (so lower ISO or higher SS) than the RF 800 F11 with 6.3, just the weight is a bit of a dealbreaker for hiking where i still love the RF 800.

    • @WestVirginiaWildlife
      @WestVirginiaWildlife 2 роки тому

      @@harrison00xXx Hey, I ended up getting the 600 f11. It was on sale ($595) and I thought it would maximize the convenience factor while still having enough reach on an apsc camera. I really enjoy it, it is far lighter which makes birding a lot more relaxing. I can hang the setup by the camera strap around my neck and the pictures look great. One thing I noticed is that when the light levels are low the frame rate in the viewfinder dips which makes it harder to track things but that's part of the tradeoff in having the f11 aperture.

      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  Рік тому +1

      The problem with the R10, including for photos, is lens selection. To get something wider than a 20 (which is 40mm full frame equivalent) - in the Canon R - lineup - you have almost no options. The 16mm 2.8 (which is a full frame equivalent 26mm on the R10) is about the only thing you can get. And it's not a great lens. 2.8 isn't great in lowlight and the lens is only ok. There is a 24 1.8 which is much better - but it's much more expensive and gives a full frame equiv with the R10 of 38mm which is not much compared to what you have. So the only other option is the 15-35 f2.8 - which is huge and over $2000. This is currently the problem Canon has. You simply cannot buy R-Mount lenses suited for their smaller, lower priced cameras. You can buy an adapter and look for EF glass - which is what some people are doing.

    Not sure why the advertised 23 fps with electronic shutter is dismissed with the "you'll probably never need it and the 15 fps mechanical shutter works". Many of us who are looking for mirrorless are weighing heavily on electronic shutter capability. 15 fps mechanical shutter and any number ELECTRONIC shutter fps are 2 different things, particulary if the camera was bought with the expectation to rely on the electronic shutter. So, at what fps rate does the electronic shutter operate. And why are they even still showing on their advertising paperwork something that would be a major "pro", but obviously doesn't work.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  2 роки тому +1

      Fast electronic shutter performance doesn't matter if the rolling shutter isn't good. Sure you'll get 23 fps - but chances are you're shooting something that requires a burst, like a moving subject. And that moving subject will be slanted or bent strangely because of the poor rolling shutter. This does not happen in mechanical shutter. Race cars, sports, wildlife - all will be warped with electronic shutter on the R10.

    Meh. If you have an M50 and a few lenses, then "trading up" to the R10 means selling the good lenses and going to a system with a total of 4, mostly painfully slow, autofocus lenses. I don't see the advantage. (Although I don't do video at all.)
    I think I'll stick with my M50 until Canon either catches up, with a few fast primes (I mean "fast" like f1.8) or f4 or f2.8 zooms, OR Canon allows third party lenses.
    If Canon doesn't support this system with useful lenses, then Fuji or Sony would be happy to fill the gap.

      Yeah, EF-M users are pretty fked, thats true.
      I always though like this about EF-S users when they realized Canon want to force their customers sooner or later to full frame and then they had a ton of garbage EF-S glass. A problem i completely avoided by just going for the full frame lenses and if possible higher end than lower end (and 2nd hand to make it affordable)
      And why are the RF system haters always complaining about missing RF APS-C lenses... yeah it sucks, but damn, EF-S still exists, something i would see as BONUS POINT (because of the Meike EF RF filter adapter!). Except for a 50mm 1.8 and a RF 800 F11 i just prefer EF(-S) lenses, with zooms its less of a problem to adapt lenses than with compact primes where the EF RF adapter gets bigger than the lens itself.
      Thankfully many EF-S 17-55 2.8s still exist, probably one of the best (and affordable!) fits to any APS-C canon. At least i love it on my R7

      @@pankajmandal522 I got at vacation in moldawia the R7 (new, in a photo store, with warranty...) nearly for the price i would have paid for the R10 in the EU
      I would go for the RP if you are really on a budget and dont care too much about video or animal eye af, or if you really want a hybrid camera, i would just step up directly at the R7, just avoid the R10 (basically too cheaped out, much more than the R7). The RP is at least only cheaped out at the video features, speed and partially by using an "old" 6D II sensor.
      I would have never thought about the R7 , let alone the R10 (i hated on them because of the price), but as i saw this deal i first calculated, watched, calculated again, asked... and well i had the R7 in my hands pretty fast. During vacation i saw already coming that the R7 will replace my (for over 2 years...) loved EOS RP.
      Whats another interesting option to think about: What about the R10 or RP, depending on your ACTUAL NEEDS and in the future a 2nd hand R10 or RP whatever you dont have yet, they share the same battery and are as RP+R7 combination very good fitting to each other (the one is a full frame photography camera, the other one a faster video and crop sensor camera)
      The biggest issue with canon... if you want a good all in one package, you need to get a R5 or R6 Mk2 and to get the full potential out of them you also need overpriced RF glass.

I'd rather buy a eos Rp or Fuji S X10 or XT3 all day over this, and the Sony ZV e 10 and Nikon Z30 both have better IQ, IMO. I completely disagree. While Sony a6000 series are getting long in the tooth, their native apsc lens selection is vastly superior since it actually already exists. Glass is way more important than the body imo. Given Canon’s priors with apsc glass release (both with EF-S and EF-M), it’s begging for serious frustration to trust they will deliver this time with RF-M. And if they do, how long will it take ? and at what price ? And Canon have recently confirmed they won’t allow 3rd parties to develop RF lenses. That doesn’t bode well at all.
      On the other hand, with the recent release of the FX-30, it’s pretty clear that new photography and hybrid apsc bodies are around the corner for Sony.
      I absolutely love my M6 mk ii, but the lack of native long telephoto and quality fast zooms, finally made me get a Dougie + the sigma 18-50 f2.8 + sony 70-350. I’m keeping my M6 for sentimental reasons and I genuinely love the tactile feeling of shooting with it; but the E-mount got me with these 2 lenses: i love their IQ and compact sizes. It’s a great travel/hiking lineup (will be perfect once I get the 11 f1.8).
      I’m waiting a bit to see if an update to the a6400 is coming out for xmas or I’d be happy with an EVF accessory for the zv-e10. Otherwise I still think the A6400 is the best value for money apsc, even 3 years later.
