A city in Washington state awakens to the surreal sight of foreign paratroopers dropping from the sky - shockingly, the U.S. has been invaded and their hometown is the initial target. Quickly and without warning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation. Determined to fight back, a group of young patriots seek refuge in the surrounding woods, training and reorganizing themselves into a guerilla group of fighters. The original Red Dawn is one of my all time favorite movies. The only (two) problems I had with this one was first off, that it was made, and second, that all of the characters did not die within the first few minutes.

This movie should be subtitled: "How a major American studio caved-in to pressure and re-edited a film at the last minute because it offended the PRC".
The movie seemed a bit rushed. They didn't really take the time to develop the story. One moment they're training, the next they're already killing all the bad guys and winning.
Forrest Dump YES. that’s it exactly. for me at least. i actually really enjoyed it but it felt unfinished. rushed. i don’t think it’s more than an hour and 20min. they had plenty of time to do more. training should’ve been longer. should’ve been more quiet moments between the characters (both before and during the invasion). and ur right, there’s barely any time between deciding to fight and the bad guys being defeated.
sucks bc it could’ve been better. it’s like people hire chris hemsworth for a film and then half heart their way with the actual movie. (look at his past films. for a great actor and great leading man, his track record isn’t too great. aside from Marvel movies, Rush, and maybe one or two more, they all kinda end up just “pretty good”.
hell even the new MIB movie. he was hilarious. he and tessa had great chemistry. the movie had potential but alas, it ended up “just okay” due to a half hearted approach and, aside from the word “international” in the title, there wasn’t even an attempt to extend the world.
hope this hemsworth trend stops. especially now that his marvel days are mostly over.

Maybe because it was North Korea. It couldn’t be taken seriously. Even the invasion itself is much more watered down than the original. The invasion is just in the northwest where in the original it was all over the place in multiple parts of the country. Originally it was China but they changed it to not affect Chinese distribution of movies. Thank you capitalism LOL

I watch this movie finally. When i saw it i realized i have so much to be grateful for in just thinking what WWII was really like. This couldn't even depict the real WWII. God bless all those men. And the rest who served bravely. I'm always so grateful when i see the war pictures.

Funny, the film's story was originally about China invading the US, until China caught wind of this, and paid the studio big money to change the invaders ethnicity to North Koreans, they had to go in and digitally edit the uniforms of the extras to make them North Koreans.

It was filmed with Chinese villains, but because of concerns that might jeopardize its entry to the Chinese movie market the villains were transformed into North Koreans in post-production - at considerable expense. Given that there’s no distribution of Hollywood movies in North Korea the producers knew there could be no loss of box office revenue by alienating that country.
...although, as I understand it, the movie never did penetrate the China market.

When I heard they were remaking Red Dawn I was exited. As the original was pretty cool. We used to dress up as kids back in the 80's and play war games about this movie. But this modern remake sucks!

I'm usually not too crazy about remakes of 80s action movies and TV shows, because they usually turn into goofy ass comedies instead of resembling the emotion and action found in those works in general. However, this looks pretty damn good. Definitely going to rent it soon.

I saw the movie today. Josh Peck was phenomenal! I wasn't sure how he would handle such a serious role, but he made the movie. Josh H, was very good too. He's so cute and small. Such an amazing movie.
