Im currently practicing this piece on violin myself. This is hands down one of my all time favourite compositions ever written. Its such a challenging piece to play, but I want give it all the respect it deserves and never stop practicing until I can do this solo justice.
Jesse Crawford, an organist back in the 1920s and 1930s covered this using the theater organ. And Leyland Kirby (under The Caretaker moniker) sampled this in his track called "A Stairway to the Stars". He pitched this down to make this track.
The "délicatesse" of that very first note of the violin took my breath away. When one know who Thaïs is, through this interpretation, one cannot but deeply feel her turmoil and her distress. There is no exploitation, sensationalism, of that piece; he IS meditating. I know it is necessary in this instance but I wish I could hear him without the orchestra.
