"It's always fun to spot them (the vandals) and drop them into a lake or something." I see that old habits from the early RCT days are still there.

You've given me so many ideas that I'm now trying to implement into my everyday building and have really shown me what's possible in games like this, keep up the great work, earned yourself a new sub dude!

I love this game! It's refreshing to see you playing a game where you're actually completing parks instead of spending multiple episodes making just one ride! While the detailing isn't as in-depth as Planet Coaster, this game has a very simple, but appealing aesthetic that I really dig. It's definitely a throwback and worthy successor to the early RCTs. I hope you'll consider doing a free-form park after you complete the campaign! Keep it up!

To me Parkitect is perfect because I lose myself in the customization of Planet Coaster and never complete anything or even really play the game. In Parkitect there’s just enough building and decoration to scratch that itch with an amazing sim/management aspect on top. One of my favorite games currently and watching your vids gives me inspiration for my park as always.

In case no one else has pointed it out yet - Canobie Lake Park has a classical woodie called the Yankee Cannonball (and it's a really cute family park with Alton-style height limits, amazing theming, and RCT-esque popcorn stands shaped like popcorn) but not Boulder Dash - you're thinking of Lake Compounce in Connecticut.

For those interested, GCI use a refined version of CCI's old circles-and-lines method with smaller circular arcs. They deliberately eschew the parabolic curves seen in the rest of the industry, and in addition only ever use two axes of rotation at once. If a track is turning and banking, it must stay at the same pitch, for example.

Tip for Vandals: You will get a notification in the bottom right corner (!) telling you how many vandals are in your park. Pause the game, hide attractions, scenery paths e.t.c then manually find and ban them. They always wear caps backwards which is the best method to find them. It will notify you when all vandals have left the park once you have banned them. Works well for early in the game when you don't have adequate security and stops them going ham on your park. Love the series!

Try to utilize zones for your workforce. By doing so, you can increase their efficiency a lot and make sure that things run well, e.g. keep vandals at bay, entertain guests where are the most, have clean pathways at rides with high dizzy stat or have mechanics always ready and nearby broken rides etc. They will still go to any nearby ˋchillout building´ no matter if it is in or outside a specific zone btw.

Hey Silv, I finally managed to watch this episode. Awesome series, I enjoy it a lot!
The way I deal with vandals is as follows: I pause the game, hit c, v, b, n on the keyboard (hotkeys for hiding scenery, attractions and everything) to find and ban all of those sneaky vandals. Also: using the pipette tool lets you replace broken things much easier than selecting the exact item from the menu. Just open the scenery menu and hit the Y button for the pipette tool, then select something (bench, lamp or any other object) and (re-)place. Keep up your great work, thanks for your insight!

Would you consider a video about specific little details you do? Just little detail work things you probably have committed to muscle memory?
Like, you seamlessly make these paths that look wide and usable but also have seating areas and segmented spots incorporated into them, and it looks so effortless. Like in front of the swinging ship. Or adding supports to the side of the first coaster station, what even compelled you to do that? It works so well. And how did you build the brake section? Is that just shapes and fences? Just some of the things you build are so simple but so good. I'm stealing the "criss-cross" path thing you do.

    • @Silvarret
      @Silvarret  6 років тому +14

I'm totally down to make some "Parkitect Coaster College" videos - about general tips and coaster building, probably. As for your questions right now - I think the effortless part of it just comes down to playing these kinds of games almost exclusively since I'm little. Sometimes it's just throwing ideas at the park and seeing what sticks (like for the supports, honestly), but often I'm just taking lessons from my RCT experience. The brake section consists of a half roof piece, a cornice on the side and a fence on top of the cornice, yeah.

Try hiring some more security gards to prevent it and some more mechanics who will automatically (but not freely) repair broken items. Mentioned Canobie Lake Park and Boulder Dash. Boulder Dash is in Lake Compounce, but they're in the same geographic region so I totally understand the mix-up.
Another trick that will make blocking more efficient would be to use 4 blocks for 2 train setups instead of 3, that way once a train clears the final brake run the other train can freely move about through the course without having to wait on the lift until the other train is basically in the station. It helps get an extra few guests per month which on charge based rides is very important.

Regarding Vandals: If you get a popup that warns you, you can simply open the info box at the bottom right. It will even tell you how many are remaining. You can either sit it out and hope security fixes the problem, or sort it out yourself. From my experience, security is useless (sometimes even ignoring vandals when I drop them off right next to a dude vandalizing). So I usually pause the game and play a round of "Find Waldo". Hide scenery and rides when neccesary and go on a vandal hunt. They'll leave a bad review anyway once banned, but you save the cost of replacing half your park. Dunno if killing them terminates both the vandal and prevents them from leaving a bad review, since they technically don't reach the exit (which is when a guest will influence your experience rating).
In terms of identifying them: Look for guests with caps, then check if they are vandals. Designated vandals always have a backwards cap and a bandana. Afaik, it doesn't matter if they are happy or not. It's simply an event spawned by the game, just like temporary higher or lower interest in theme parks.

You need more security guards to keep vandals away.

Hi silv, really enjoying the parkitect series. Been following for planet coaster but I also love the simplicity/old school feel of parkitect.
I would love to see you do a coaster building tips video for parkitect! Or at least, some tips regarding banking/cornering and smoothness! Would you consider it?

Lol I have the decorating issues with Zoo Tycoon whenever I play. I restarted out of nostalgia and ended up running my bank dry because I had "uninteresting" animals and just spent way too much money making my scenery look nice.
Have been thinking about getting back into RCT games lately, this looks like the perfect game to add to my list. Definitely a nice in-between for RCT fans and those who very obviously can't run Planet Coaster because they have over 5 year old laptops :D

    *Passes second vandal*
"I'm not seeing any other vandals..."
    *Bans third vandal*
"Huh, I don't remember banning him..."

To me, Parkitect's coaster builder seems to be a perfect balance of the limitations in RCT3 versus the more-less complete freeform method of Planet Coaster. For me, someone who has played RCT3 intermittently since I was 10 (so... almost 8 years now), I am very adjusted to its systems but do acknowledge it is very limited in some aspects. However, Planet Coaster's builder is too freeform for me because of my long-term use of RCT3; I got adapted to these limitations and developed strategies on how to kinda get around them. With PC obviously this is not longer an issue, so it was almost offputting to me when I could essentially do everything I wanted with little to no consequence. That's why I think I'll be buying Parkitect in the near future. ;)

I had my “AHA” moment when you were talking about the wooden GCI coaster.. when you said they have the distinct crashing sound of another train going through the station.. I thought, “Omg wait, the wooden coaster Apocalypse at Six Flags Magic Mountain has that!” I’ll never forget how freaking loud it was, but it was my favorite coaster in the park because, for a wooden coaster, it felt so much more fun with pops of air time. So I googled it, and… YEP, it was made by GCI! This is the first time this has happened to me. Does this mean I’m starting down the path to coaster obsession? 🤣

It is also similar to the map evergreens garden from RCT2 which I loved because of its size.

Dankjewel! You should make a building tutorial for scenery! The pieces and the isometric perspective are a bit daunting.
