Honestly Nick, I thought your daily shave series last year was incredibly fun and informative. You still managed to share a lot valuable knowledge about the products you were using, and it seemed like it gave you the freedom to give more broad tips to new wet shavers. You've been our product review guinea pig for a long time now... Just relax, enjoy some shaves, and have fun sharing your experience.
Really appreciate that you went ahead and posted this video and allowed everyone watching to see the reality of shaving cuts. It happens! I recently shaved with a brand new DE-89 and cut myself 4 times! Ha! New razor, Feather blade, and overconfident. I learned a lesson ... Slow down. Great video! Thanks!
Thanks! Yeah, it's just going to happen from time to time. Oh well! A great shave nonetheless
This is a great soap.
Nice back to basics, truth telling video, Nick. Great stuff.
Always happy to see you post a new video! Amazing as always. Thank you Nick
Nick, I always like your honesty!
Great video Nick, love your daily shave vids. Catie's Bubbles is amazing stuff, lathers like nothing. Keep doing what you do man it's encouraging and inspiring.
Thanks man! Really enjoying your videos too - always like seeing your techniques and what you are using
Thanks! : )
Nice of you to continue after getting the cut. Still a very nice shave, Nick.
I never knew about the whole with grain, cross grain, against grain routine to get the ultimate shave until i started watching these videos. I use to just shave like a rookie or something i guess lol Ive been trying it now and damn there really is a difference.
SO GORY! AHHH! Nice video. cuts happen! Glad you didn't cut it out. no pun intended. I just picked up the QCV and I am surprised with how fresh and floral it is. CB is just flat out great stuff. The Soap Commander balms are incredible, Integrity goes with everything. Shave on Nick!
Same thing happened to me too! Same blade same razor!
Nice one, Nick. I have been using the iKon #102 slant a lot recently and love it. I sold my Merkur 37c because I found the iKon to be smoother and less aggressive (my preference). Great video. Hope you're surviving the epic winter in Boston.
even surgeons cut themselves haha. Thank you nick for showing that we're all human. You're a real inspiration in more ways than just shaving advice
Hi Nick,
Here's a little tip for you. In terms of styptic pencils Pinaud Clubman's styptic pencils are the best and you can get and you can find them where ever shaving items are sold. Walmart has the jumbo sized ones which are easier to open for around $3 bucks. I'm a free bleeder and when I get cut, it's not pretty and these work great for me.
I think nick shaves offers the most unbiased product reviews. I honestly thank him for that. If I could make a request, I'd love to see Razorock P.160 lol. It's tallow based, apparently smells like bitter almond (?), and is $5 so I think I'll jump on it.
I just tried this soap this week. The scent is amazing, and the soap performs very well. I had a little redness on my neck right after shaving, which I've read that other people have experienced as well, but it went away very quickly.
Is it harsh? I read the description and it had an odd way of saying it was harsh.
I got mine from Italian Barber (www.italianbarber.com/p160-special-shaving-soap-by-razorock-10), and read that the original formula was a little harsh for some people. It has since been reformulated, and is supposed to be more mild. Like I said, I had a little redness for a few minutes, so it might not be the right soap for someone with very sensitive skin, but I would say that it is well worth the $4.99.
It is biased in the fact that he doesnt review items he doesnt like (he mentioned this somewhere) So we wont get a product that is truly bad
Don't sweat it nick shot happens I cut myself straight shaving yesterday great vid glad u posted it keep them coming
Nice shave Nick. Yes in the real world even the best most experienced shaver will cut them self's .Hold the styptic against the wound with a little pressure. Thank you and have a good day.
I was tempted to buy that scent because I thought it would be intriguing. I think I'm glad I didn't now that people are saying that it doesn't really smell like MJ.
I got my lip sliced by a falling florescent light tube at work, and i stopped the bleeding with an ice cube on the lip till it stopped.
Always bring your alum block ;)
7:59 the elder gods of shaving are now pleased
Now we pray for good crops
Still waiting for Mickey Lee Shaving soaps and the legendary Drunken Goat!
Agreed. That soap is right up there with Catie's Bubbles LPV in terms of my favorite scents, but with B&M-caliber post shave and lather. Great deal at $12.
"I don't know if it really smells like marijuana" c'mon now Nick the police aren't watching. Great video as always.
hahah right acting like he's never smelled it. love it
Well is going to be a doctor. I guess he doesn't want his employer and patients think he is a stoner.
palillo2006 Am I also a stoner now? I know what it smells like.
+Gepstra don't be so uptight. the dudes talking about smearing the soap all over his face and Nick most likely wouldn't smear a marijuana scented anything on himself when he works in a professional setting, not to mention a medical setting where people must be wary of any scent at all. nothin to do with knowing what weed smells like.
Well he did, but thanks for your reply anyway!
The look on your face during this video was incredible! You looked scared to death.....like it was your first shave! LMFAO!
Hi Nick,
I love your videos,
In my opinion they are quite helpful for those who like the art of barber or simply for those who are "starting" to like shaving.
One of the products that ussed in my routine is: Nivea Shaving Cream Lather sensitive and Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm, I must say that I love these two products.
I have only two small questions to ask you if you don´t mind, Nivea Sensitive Shaving Cream Lather and Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm are also your favorite products for the moment and what do you think of MERKUR FUTUR SAFETY RAZOR.
Best wishes and continue with these wonderful videos.
RS
Can you do more straight razor vids?
I actually have the same styptic pencil matches - they're great! Actually, they're not from Russia, they're from Turkey! :)
I'm thinking about ordering from Catie's Bubbles, do all their soaps perform similarly to each other except for the scent? i guess what i'm asking for here is: are all their soaps the same except for the scent?
Hey Nick, appreciate all your video uploads! My den is based off of yours a bit at the moment. You're recommendation of the omega 10066 brush was spot on! First brush was van der hagen. They both brushes being dry felt the same initially, after lathering the omega, wow, just wow! And pew yew lol So I recently purchased my first DE razor, the Edwin Jagger DE89bl and I have sensitive skin, I think you said you prefer peronna blue blades? Where do I buy these at? Derby is what comes with the razor, I really want my first time shave with the razor to be a winner and a great experience!
Blades are very personal. One brand of blades will work for one person but won't work for another. Also, blades act differently on different DE razors. I recommend getting a sampler razor blade pack and adding a pack of persona blue blade if they do come with a pack. Maggardrazors.com is a great online store
This is a good place to get a few of each blade you might want to check out: tryablade.com
Cool! Thanks! I found them all over the web!
I thought using toilet paper would actually not prevent the bleeding. Toilet paper will prevent the cut from clotting whereas alum or a styptic pencil will actually help clot the cut. I still cut myself on occasion DE shaving and it is really frustrating!
Use an alum block for the cut, physician heal thyself.Love the videos.
As you shave more you generally cut yourself less but Nick has shown that even experienced wet shavers can make a mistake and draw claret once in a while.
Hi Nick,
What aftershave splash do you use the most? I noticed you have a few in your cabinet. As always, I enjoy your videos.
Thank you!
Hey Nick, I just wanted to let you know that when your schedule allows feel free to check your email inbox to see that Nick Shaves logo I created. Best, John
Bravo Nick! So you cut yourself, at least it wasn't the straight. You have shown me your a real human being and yes once and a while we make a mistake but it heals and tomorrow is another shave...I mean day! Great video like always.
Can you recommend one of these for a beginner: Catie's bubbles or razorock xxx or something else?
I'm gonna get a Edwin Jagger DE89 with Astra blades to start. what soap should i get for sensitive skin? or just what have YOU had better experience with? I'm looking for something that moisturizes and gives you a slick shave for easy gliding
If you're after a conditioned and hydrated post shave, I'd recommend a soap with lanolin. This includes Mike's Natural, Stirling, Barrister & Mann, Mickey Lee, and others. These soaps are also very slick, with Stirling often heralded as one of the slickest on the market. I'd recommend Mike's (his Barbershop scent is stellar), because it's easier to use than Stirling, and has the best post shave conditioning I've ever felt in a shave soap.
This isn't to say Catie's Bubbles or XXX are bad soaps. I love both of those, but for my money an optimal post shave comes from a tallow + lanolin combination with as few preservatives as possible.
Evan R I believe RRxxx has lanolin. I'll look at comparisons on those u mentioned. I found TOBS, RR, Cella and Stirling are good
Did you get the package bro?
What affordable safety razor do you recommend starting out with? Something quality built like Merkur that is under $50
"I don't really know if it smells like marijuana" Sure you don't, Nick. :)
smells like Marijuna
Good video Nick, aren't you meant to be away on holiday? Did you take your bathroom with you? Lol
I have a few videos loaded up that I will release this week - I'm definitely away, but want to have some videos for you guys!
What handle do you keep on your ikon?
I guess no making out before bed tonight...lol.
Just eskimo kiss (rubbing noses).
nick got nicked. thats weird
