Mariko is the strongest character that I’ve seen on screen in a really long time! Even here her sense of honor & duty battle against her love & desire for him.. it’s written all over her face & beautifully expressed w/an ever so slight touch of the hand. 👏
The way he articulates himself in conversations is absolutely stunning... Dude literally had to invent a new way of talking and expressing himself for this character and he nailed it.

I already watched Shogun back in the 80s when I was a child in my native Cuba. It was an American/Japanese miniseries based on Jame Clavell's novel of the same name. After waching a couple of "harakiris" (some sort of honor self-killing), I lost interest in the series. It was perfectly dubbed into Spanish. I still remember Mariko's character very well.
