-sigh- It's really tough, cuz like, I get why devs pursue publishers. It's hard to be confident that you'll have the organization in place to advertise/organize/optimize your game, and publishers offer that out. Sometimes it works, but other times, you get a Nicalis, or a Modus and it fucking sucks. I don't think the lesson is "don't seek a publisher," so much as it's "be careful before you sign that dotted line, you might lose more than if you did it yourself"
@@nintendork9207 it's better to not seek out publisher's knowing that advertising isn't worth losing your baby your hardwork especially considering the game is 10 years old and so many backers deserve to get something out of it for contributing to the game in it's beginning.
they fire a whole team whose best point is making a good fighting game, then they announce making a fighting game about avatar. they are not clowns, they are the whole circus.
Yeah, apparently they have mike z on there payroll but I still don’t get why you would fire devs that have been proven to make a good product in the industry/niche you will be going into.
good fighting games don't pay the bills, licenses do the good fighting games that you are about to try and list are large enough to themselves be the licenses
Absolute heartbreaker all around. The character concept too, even. Maybe some of this was the words my brain wanted to see and not what was literally written, but I remember reading the pitch for Baihe and thinking "slow moving zoner who holds down the fort with siege tactics and heavy artillery instead of circle-strafe-y schmoove zone machine guns" was probably my most ideal character type. I'm addicted to defensive play, space control, and slow-moving juggernauts. Instead, the overlap between Longma 2 and the features that put the funny icicle bird from Heritage For the Future on the tournament ban list is actually kind of uncanny. If I didn't know better, I'd suggest it might be an obscure, deliberate joke. To see the final delivery be "Actually, she's basically just Pet Shop, only somehow even MORE cracked out and over the top stupid" because the whole team got fired halfway through QA testing and they just shipped her anyway feels like a cruel trick. "Oh Monkey's Paw, I wish we could get another space control character in one of my favorite games. That would be totally rad." "Well, alright, but there's gonna be characters banned from tournament play in games made before 2001 that are weaker and more stable than her. You wanted UMK3 Kabal and MK Trilogy Noob Saibot on crack, right? Yeah, let's go with that. That sounds much funnier than what you wanted."
What is worse is that most of the reasons she is busted is because a move has a property it should not or is missing a property it should have. So if there were any people left who new how to work the engine then a lot of it would be an easy fix.
While the comparison to pet shop is funny, my understanding of the two characters makes me believe they’re completely different. Baihe honestly seems a lot more absurd than pet shop on paper, just because whilst pet shop does have insane air mobility and is immune to lows while standing, he also doesn’t have access to complete and infinite invulnerability. Pet shop’s strong because of his flight yes but also mostly because he has access to icicles, which are overhead projectiles that are activated on button release and lead to unblockables and absurd damage. Baihe just has infinites and can’t be touched at all. I get the comparison but they’re actually both pretty distinct.
Same here, actually, the way she stands makes her look stiffer than Tian, even though her body is more noodle, especially with the very boxy, square shape of her D Stance. That, with the description of her transferring due to an injury, had me believe that she’d want to keep away from her opponent and would have far less mobility, both due to the effects of said injury and out of a desire to protect herself from further injury, or something along those lines. It was a bit of a shame, then, to not see that turn out. I wish her design reflected her injury more than the little scar on her nose, at least. Both her Shadow (HDSHT) and Zombie (Boom, Headshot) palettes reference the injury, so it’s clearly meant to be significant to her, with that and her being “disgraced”, but it doesn’t really *feel* that important. Oh well, I guess.
It's just mind-boggling to me that they couldn't just finish the patch before burning all bridges. If TFH isn't profitable enough for season 2, I understand. But they could've just kept the team on long enough to finish the patch, respond to bug reports, and give the game an appropriate final send-off before closing up shop. The most frustrating part of this is knowing that it won't be fixed because there is no one left who even knows how to fix it. Maybe they might patch the crashes and the infinites, but as you've shown the problems run much deeper than that, deeper than they'll ever be able to address. You can tell me they were in that much of a hurry to cut their losses, but this PR nightmare is going to cost them so much more in the long run when no one trusts their future products. I sincerely hope Diesel Legacy and the Avatar game bomb, they deserve it.
Yeah clearly they could have avoided this whole situation. They want to sweep it under the rug now, I guess they thought we wouldn't make this much noise lol
Diesel legacy is a fighting game. TFH history going to ruin their reputation. For avatar, lets say not many have tried and based on Netflix series, they either decide failure or success of avatar franchise for 1-2 years.
lay off like this are just a scheme companies use to keep investors, they hire new staff only to lay them off in oder to say there restructuring when in fact the company is running the same. it's part of the Boom Bust cycle that most companies are obsessed with.@@PocoQuinn
watching publishers fuck over games feels just as bad as seeing music labels fuck over artist. companies are not human. they value fabricated things that they'll easily trade your way of life to get.
This is how I found out the DLC even got released at all. No trailers or the like. They really just threw this out to get it all over with, didn't they? :/
Yeah, also a lot of players came back as well anyways, like a lot of players. Also if the two characters worked we would have pushed TFH like no ones business. We would’ve gotten like 1000 people playing.
"So Baihe can cancel everything into everything, forever, thus never being unsafe if they don't want to be." Wow that's- "Now to move on to her more broken things-" If this is what all the characters were like before tuning them down to something balanced, good lord! [Siege Cannon] You know what, now I'm afraid to even ask what the other characters were like, this goes beyond nuts into full on SNK boss with nothing removed levels of broken.
I Was completely in the dark about all of this drama, and excited to see the new characters drop. Heck, Baihe has been my favorite character to play in the game so far (no I was not aware of her busted shenanigans). If the game can somehow get updated to bring her into balance, I’d be super excited! Thank you for making this video, and keeping it concise. I may not be an active member of the TFH community in the slightest, but I want to see this game thrive. Maybe, in some future, production will be given back to people who care.
What's almost more disappointing is the announcement that the story mode is just straight-up canned, leaving chapter 1 as the only story mode content. Story mode was looking SO promising (even though it ends on a cliffhanger), and it stings all the more because the devs had announced that after Nidra, the rest of story mode was next up for development. Canceling this is so incredibly dumb from a business standpoint. For better or worse, >90% of fighting game players are casuals who have little to no interest in multi-player. All FGs releasing recently that don't give casuals a reason to stick around are doomed to failure.
Hey, have you ever heard of the 7 deadly sins? Not the show, the actual ones. One of them is greed, and it's when anyone will do ANYTHING to get a quick buck. Here's a few examples: 1. Universal The original owners of the Spyro series, they handed it out to other second party devs to make more games. One of which was Enter the Dragonfly. There was going to be a ton of content in the game, but as I'm sure you can guess, Universal rushed the devs to get it out by Christmas of 2002. Wanna know the result? The game was released unfinished and was poorly received. 2. Activision After the success of the Skylanders franchise (apologies if you either have never heard of it or don't like it), Activision decided to double down in the fourth game in the series by having specific characters open up elemental gates. For context, previously, you didn't need that many toys to 100% a Skylanders game. Now, in this game, you need to buy 10 Trap Masters and 11 traps! My point is, greed can ruin, not just one person, but a whole group of people! And in my opinion, greed is the worst sin of them all!
Great video man, very sad to see what modus did to tfh... I initially tried to let it mellow inside me, and just try to let it pass. But after so many years of playing this game it eventually hit me... I just kinda started going over all the channels and servers i've joined over the years and suddenly got kind of upset. Thanks for all the work you put into shedding some light on the whole situation. Hopefully the game can get some type of proper balance patch/update it deserves. 😔
For the question about ‘why would you lay off an entire team if you’ve had a successful year’. The trick is that they’re fundamentally connected. ‘Why would you do it to a team that’s working on content people paid for already’ is the reason to fire them, they’re redundant from a short term revenue perspective. They already got the revenue, and now are able to cut costs of a team working on something people already bought. So from a yearly revenue perspective they made money at a lower cost. Now for the following year it leads to the problems you’ve mentioned about damaged reputation and less sales in this game, but even that issue is sidestepped by the announcement. The goal was to have a high revenue year so they can use that stat to parley negations with another company to get the rights/funding for the new avatar game, and hope that with the new ip people buy into that and the game damage they’ve done can be quietly walked away from.
I remember being somewhat interested in this game yeeeeaaaars ago just bc of the unique story mode (for a fg) but nowadays i forget it exists every time
I mean he made the engine last time I checked. But they fired all the Devs who knew how to work the engine, so this is it. Still going to play it though.
You know, announcing your big get of an Avatar: The Last Airbender fighting game, immediately after proving you're willing to leave a fighting game high and dry, creating an audience with an active grudge against you, and deliberately burning bridges with developers who have a decade plus of successful fighting game dev experience... It's not a great look!
They also fired all the devs that made the game. Not relocated to a different section, fired. You know proven talent in the fighting game industry, that you would not need to train to make a good fighting game!
Speaking as someone who's old and grizzled enough to have messed around in that ancient Fighting Is Magic demo, hearing about all this has been weirdly depressing. I'm not even a fighting-game person myself, I mostly knew about TFH through its pony-related roots, but the fact that the game and its devs are getting treated so terribly is a really bitter end to such a longtime project.
i do find it extremely funny how there was like 3 emergency edits made because new Baihe stuff got discovered after the original audio was recorded and despite that the THIRD infinite where she can just loop the reflector attack wasn't included Baihe meta is actually eternal
I remember watching the devstreams, and they explained that the way they develop a character's gameplay is by starting testing with them being super-mega-busted to find out what the most fun things to do with the character are, then scale things back while preserving those fun elements until things are relatively balanced. So when they said the team was fired before QA could happen, it probably meant Baihe was still at super-mega-busted state before iterating towards balance.
Gosh, that makes me wish there was a 'just for fun' 'original busted version' for all the characters. If only for the lulz of casual play doing that in both directions. Edit: Having seen the entire video now, I feel like this post was a monkeys' paw.
I think we deserved, like working charters. The minimum basically. But hey they unintentionally created one of the most overpowered characters ever, and one of the fastest banned characters ever. So that’s neat.
I don't even care if WE deserved better, the DEVS behind it deserved way better, to have their characters and world shine freely. Imagine creating a varied world with beautiful characters and stories and then be legally stopped from telling even a third of the lore. The game is still fun, its future is just gone.
Modus is vile, but after everything I can't help but also feel miffed by how Mane6 operated over the years, long before the Modus acquisition. Transparency was always minimal and the QA team/community managers were always just... really rude? It's hard to talk about the latter because the two most prominent communities for the game (the Discord server and the /mlp/ general) have two EXTREMELY absolutist positions on the issue ("How dare you criticize them" and "They are the spawn of Satan" respectively), which from what I've seen has completely burned out most of the community whenever the issue gets brought up. But since it's all over, well, that's my thoughts on things. Interaction with the community was always really bad, even before Modus entered the picture to further ruin things.
Honestly, speaking as someone who came into the game later than most it's really off putting how everyone is talking so much shit about Modus/Maximum, while seeming to be completely oblivious to their own hostility towards M6 in the months prior.
@@Yee-Haw_Bird Yeah, the double-standard is so stupid. I saw something similar recently in the Neopets community, when the community did a 180 on a member of staff that was infamous for being a dick when it came to light that she's basically the only one on customer support duty. It's like, it doesn't have to be one or the other. Acknowledging Mane6 had many instances where they messed up doesn't excuse or justify Modus/Max's deplorable treatment of both the devs and the community. Criticism of both parties are talking points that can and should coexist. And suddenly pretending to be all chummy chummy with members of Mane6 that up until a year or so ago netted mostly negative discussion is... I mean it's nice that there's solidarity, but it feels performative.
Probably the most important comment here. Mane6 isn't innocent and has earned a lot of (justified) ire over the years, but Modus still should be heavily criticized for these horrible decisions. It's just weird that so many people have seemingly forgotten the first part. Maybe it makes it easier to rally for justice for Mane6 if you forget about what they did to get to this point in the first place? It's a complicated situation, but there's always that question in the back of the mind, of "how did they get here in the first place?" Maybe that sounds like victim-blaming. But Mane6 has always had a slow development speed, and it's not unreasonable to think that they were fired for missing deadlines, or that they contracted with Modus in the first place because they ran out of funding before they ran out of promised work to do. We don't know for sure what happened behind the scenes, but it's still something to consider, and it probably doesn't help to be saying or thinking those things if you want retribution on Modus.
Well that and also the stupid amount of stuff you can do with your armored stance. But that got kind of glossed over (I wanted to play baihe so bad, why did the fire the hole dev team!)
The really insane part is not just the fact that she can get invul on so many things, it’s the fact that it lasts the ENTIRE move every time. If she triggers the invincibility via tiger knee or follow up from the armor being hit or just reversal timing literally any special from a knockdown, the invincibility lasts through the ENTIRE animation, so even on wiff she’s invincible for the entire recovery.
Good video. I just can't stand the thought of modus getting away with what they've done to the game and the devs. I've got no experience in editing but I'm gonna start a script and see where it takes me. Thanks for making this one.
Every time you think Baihe can't get any worse, the video gives even MORE information. This may be the single most broken fighting game character ever released. And not just "overpowered", but literally broken mechanically on a fundamental level.
No not a a few fundamental level. More like “half of her moves have properties that they should not have and the other half are missing properties they should have” - me after realizing whitch a lot of moves are missing combo decay and a air specials can be invisible. If you look at her moves through that lens a lot of things make sense. That or they are way to + or way to fast.
@@thenormalpsycho4198 Well she would be the most busted charter in the game. and then promptly banned. I think MvC2 charter is more appropriate. (She would be top one there as well and then promptly banned)
@@1inimilian567lololol no the fuck she would NOT be _top one_ in MVC2. She is _maybe_ broken enough to be somewhat competitive. Remember, it's a totally different game at a basic, fundamental level - with much floatier physics, assists (obv) and all the team fighter mechanics, generally FAR higher damage, and the utter fucking ubiquity of ToD's/infinites just being some of the first to come to mind. As a general rule of thumb, a character simply transplanted 1-to-1 from a different game/series is going to function... weirdly. If at all.
Skullgirls are very ironic lmao They kicked out their CEO and become worse than their CEO WHAT THE FCK WAS GOING ON also the stupidest thing is censorship of the game. Ppl buy it bcs the game style itself. Just make skullgirls 2 lmao. Don't ruin the og.
@@3takoyakis Okay so the Skullgirls situation is much worst than what people have been led to believe. The official story for a long time was that Mike Z was this awful boss who sexually harassed his employees and was just generally unpleasant to be around. This is until he decided to sue them and a youtuber named Technicals managed to get the court documents of the case (which hasn’t had a verdict yet to my knowledge) that contains a variety of in-company messages between employees. These revealed that the company just had a weird culture all around that wasn’t exclusive to Mike and that the leaders of the whole “Fuck Mike” group actually planned to straight up steal the company from him and that the majority of those accusations were mostly bullshit with little to no evidence. I recommend looking into yourself as it a really complicated situation.
It's actually so sad for the devs not only having their game fucked over by Hasbro but also not even being able to finish it's predecessor due to these god awful publishers. Maximum's other multiplayer games have had content drought since they bought them out as well in favor of micro transactions.
I was learning how to play TFH for like few weeks now and I really like the game. I was expecting something like guilty gear with horses, but the game is actually much better and unique than I thought. It's heartbreaking to see such a good game being ruined by the publisher.
ZA/UM and now Maximum Entertainment(/Modus?).... Y'know, maybe indie devs are better off just indie devving if a company can con you before kicking you out on the street.
As someone who was around during the Fighting is Magic era, this shit hurts. Not one but *two* companies spat in Mane 6's face. At least with Hasbro, while I didn't agree with their C&D, I could understand their reasoning; they didn't want a fighting game made for their kids show. Maximum is just malicious corporate spite, and I can't wait to see their names on a list of companies subsumed and dissolved by a larger company. They've ruined any chance they had at a successful fanbase by demonstrating just how swiftly they are willing to not only abandon, but decimate any fanbase that rests under them. This shit just hurts, man. It hurts a lot.
Yeah. Maximum has shown they can't be trusted to deliver on their business agreements with customers. Meaning I'm going to watch out for them and avoid anything they touch because why wouldn't I?
They say money speaks louder then words. Not buying their games starves them out as a company. We the consumers who buy games whatever's can do something just by ignoring them an don't buy future games they do
More revenue then ever but you're kicking people out when you still owe content? So the publisher is pure evil and I'll never buy a game from them and if I see anyone considering buying from them I will warn them so they can't get screwed over by the publisher's malicious and negligent behavior. Thanks for the heads up.
This is the type of funny ass and expressively cool character you’d expect to see in some fighting game released in 1994 or something. Like heritage for the future or guilty gear og. Not a modern fighting game if this polish and support. I’m going to start calling this game “Them’s Bizarre Fightin’ Crusaders” or something
Imagine being the Baihe player starting the round just to realize halfway through the infinite that they unintentionally broke the game already and didn’t even do anything themselves. Just comboing the opponent just to eventually see they are literally frozen in place and have been since the round started.
It's certainly a heck of a time. As much as the developers have done wrong over the years, and as much as they very much played a part in their own downfall, I don't think anyone wanted it to end like this. It's a damned shame and Modus is crazy for thinking this was remotely a good idea.
Yeah no one really did. We all kind a knew development was coming to an end and we weren’t getting story mode. At least everyone who could see sense thought that. We just kind of wanted the game to end in a good state so we could enjoy the product and recommend it to others. But you know. . . .
Dude if she was in DBFZ she would be top 1 and then banned. Though I thing MVC2 top tier is a bit more accurate (she would still be banned as well). Also we found more busted stuff.

I liked it well enough, but ended up falling off because I just didn't have the time I hate seeing this, wish Mane6 got to finish their game Hope they land on their feet Also, I do appreciate putting the Friday damn on every Siege Cannon during the Baihe sections
as someone who's played this for a number of years I really started getting into the game and it's community late last year. It's been depressing seeing this downward spiral, I always thought that buyout was suspicious but I could have never have seen this coming. Glad you've made this video, I hope that this will grab the ears of people in charge who care. thank you all the fun fights hope to see things get better
When you were discussing the fact that the corporation could delete the discord server, to then add that like 10 years of sacred history could be all deleted in one fell swoop, I instantly realized what you were saying, and I felt an intense sickening in my stomach. That’s horrible. All the history of the original game, to the Creator of MLP:FiM helping to get the game a new start, to the game’s official beginnings and launch to now, would all be completely gone in a snap. I’m genuinely feeling nauseous just thinking about this.
This game is what got me into fighting games. I was ecstatic when Shanty, and later Texas and Stronghoof were introduced. Seeing this game left abandoned and broken is deeply saddening to me.
I still do not have my backer rewards for this game and was a $100 backer. I felt such a close connection as someone who showed up early on enough to say I wasn't going to help them make it if they go with using Fighter Maker instead of Mugen. I do not regret my choice, I had the experience to know they'd never get far on their awful engine. But who woulda guessed they'd get the Skullgirls engine later on?? I was always so happy to see their past mistakes turn into huge triumphs. I was always rooting for them to succeed. But I was among the few who was terrified when they sold themselves to Maximum. Just ask Skullgirls what happened when they got a publishing deal with Konami. It ended the game. And it's not the only example. Mane6 weren't just naive to how the business world works. They were actively ignorant. They were in the perfect position of contacts, with a similar game to compare themselves to, where they could have seen this coming. And they took the gamble anyway. Coding and art skills do not have to come at the expense of common sense. This is something we can blame Mane6 for, because they had the resources to know the mistake they were making was a bad idea before they did it. They just did it anyway. And now they get to see what these consequences look like. After the initial legal trouble you'd think they would know the value of owning the IP. It's amazingly sad that as talented as Mane6 are, they were the equivalent of a child repeatedly touching a hot stove and never learning from it. Which means if they get to work on anything in the future, which I hope they do, as they deserve it, I'll remain skeptical that they should be in a position of any authority. They just did not make good company decisions. And there was no good excuse for it. This is such a waste. Such a damn sad situation. But I'm really glad to see this video so well describe the current sad state of things. Nothing can be done to fix any of this. But we sure can watch it burn down together and hopefully educate future indie developers on NOT SELLING THEIR RIGHTS AWAY. And make a few jokes to dull the pain.
That's why I'm so sick of everything going to Discord servers instead of the tried and true forums of yesteryear. Discord has been the bane of archivists everywhere.
I absolutely adore this video! I came by because i was fixating on thems again and looked up the unfinished, you explained everything so perfectly, sadly because of this i wont be getting the game. I dont want to support the publishers awful decisions and cheap runaway, this game had so much love put into it, especially with how this game even came to be. It is very saddening.
Came into contact with the game and the community a few years back It's the reason I know the friends I know today, and the start of liking fighting games for me too Stopped playing it as time went on because things seemed to feel worse and worse Despite not playing it anymore, every piece of bad news still stings, and all this But I'm glad that the GoFundMe campaign has reached the goal, at least. Very glad
Jesus Christ, that Baihe breakdown was a roller coaster. This is probably the most busted "800 yen tier" I've ever seen, and those have a LOT of dumb shit tied to them, lol.
I followed the development of the original fangame when I was a fan of both fighting games and its source material. I'm no longer a fan of either, but it's really sad to see this passion project end up like this. Thanks for making the video.
Jeez, this company seems genuinely awful, and I was genuinely excited for Diesel Legacy. I wonder if some people will manage to make a community edition like with Kirby Fighters 2 (that game's awesome, it just never got any updates or patches). I'm sure the game's community will survive in some form, at least I also wonder if someone has a script for the rest of the story mode, and if that would bring legal trouble if it got leaked by a dev? And is it just me, or do the last two characters seem to have worse animation quality? But that might just be placebo or something
Im a SAR (super animal royale ) player I'm glad pixile cut ties with modus so that we didn't end up like this and they just buy out and abandon us and I'm sorry this happened to you guys no game should have to deal with this
Christ, with how OP Baihe is, I wonder if she could be considered even more busted than shit like SSF2T Akuma or Igniz from KoF. The General from Kaiser Knuckle seems like an apt comparison
So I was looking at Maximum's products to see what games I should avoid like the plague and immediately saw Super Animal Royale, a super fun twin stick shooter battle royale game that I put a lot of time into and immediately became afraid for the company behind it
Honestly i adore this game too much,i really wish that this game wasn't run by those who are only interested in money over a community My major hopes are either a different team picks up the game and continues or that someone ports and fixes the charecters for ikemen/mugen
I had this game since launch and I always thought it deserved better, heck I fell out of fighting games so I barely played it at all but it sucks. First getting slack for being “the pony fighter”, now on top of staying unfinished the last two characters… modtly Baihe are problematic for the game. Hope I can join other parts of the community, it sucks. I guess GGPO games are just cursed honestly, I hope the devs can come together and make something new but… it’s awful. Alternatively, community edition/mods honestly. I know that gets messy but at least getting a universal fix for Nidra crashes etc. would be cool (and that’s never happening officially)
just disappointed, had high hopes for this game even just waiting for chapter 2 to drop after it was promised to find out that any future for it was getting canceled
OH. MY. GOD. THIS IS WORST THAN I THOUGHT! I played the game a bit in its early access days and came back to try Nidra and Baihe (especially baihe because she has a really cool design) but deep down, I knew something was off about them basically shadow dropping them both. I never imagined most of the team I wanted to support got fired... I'm considering joining the community now, I know it's probably too late, but what you said about really intrigues me to see more of it. I love the colorful cast of the game (and I'm not even big into mlp, lol), especially the longmas, that's why I was really excited about Baihe, I'm disappointed that she's broken and banned... It's absolutely unfortunate what was once a beacon of inspiration for me just became another clog in the machine...
This was a great video! You've got a knack for breaking down complex topics into entertaining, accessible bits of info. I'm not too familiar with this game (nor fighting games in general) but even I can understand how awful this update is. Hopefully this situation'll get better, although failing that, I hope at least that everything turns out well for this community.
If the game stands the test of time im super interested in seeing how people evolve to get around these characters, will the meta be JUST these 2 or do we see people coming up with strategies to work around it; who knows
Baihe legitimately has no counterplay, so she will probably never be legal in tournament. Nidra seems balanced, she probably wouldn't be meta. but she might get banned anyway bc of a glitch that crashes the game when she uses her super in some situations.
great breakdown of the whole situation, didnt realize how busted the new characters were. hopefully the community can come together to make their own patch or something
Yeah ideally a fixed baihe would keep a lot of her strong properties, but require Magic to access some of them. A lot of her problems would be solved just by making her require a resource
This is heartbreaking to hear. I wasn't keeping up with the game, but I liked it and was waiting for more story mode content. I hope the people from Mane6 can pick themselves back up after this disaster.
>buy the game with all the dlc >2 more dlc's come out >something pushes me to read the reviews >Turns out I spent about 800rub (~$8) on a dead game >Steam is discounting the remaining 2 dlc -_-
As someone who remembers the original Fighting as Magic and that inspiring me to look more into fighting games as a whole, this absolutely saddens me. I remembering being so excited to see this game be finally released and even recently got to experience myself first hand thanks to playstation sales. Seeing Mane6 just dissolve and with MaxEnterainment not giving us a clear answer and dumping a buggy update pisses me off. While I love Nidra's design and gameplay style, it kinda sucks Baihe is now just a buggy mess. Justice for the ex members of Mane6!!

Sometimes it works, but other times, you get a Nicalis, or a Modus and it fucking sucks. I don't think the lesson is "don't seek a publisher," so much as it's "be careful before you sign that dotted line, you might lose more than if you did it yourself"
Capitalism. Maximum profit extraction at the cost of maximum exploitation.

@@edfreak9001 Licenses being made into a game by people with a good track record are what sell _the most_ copies.
That would be totally rad."
"Well, alright, but there's gonna be characters banned from tournament play in games made before 2001 that are weaker and more stable than her.
You have no idea how much I wanted to play baihe.
And I was excited for Diesel Legacy...
Diesel legacy is a fighting game. TFH history going to ruin their reputation.
For avatar, lets say not many have tried and based on Netflix series, they either decide failure or success of avatar franchise for 1-2 years.

Man . . . She was my favorite too. I still have Arizona but I really wanted to play baihe.
I check on this game every once in awhile and the last time I checked Texas was a newcomer.
I LOOK AWAY FOR ONE SECOND...
Why all her fireballs explode green but SIEGE CANNON is red/orange lol
This is a great video dude, I hope to see you make more content like this, you're really good at it
so glad you checked it out matey!
Very informative! These characters look like they could be super fun, so I hope they do somehow get fixed.
Hey, have you ever heard of the 7 deadly sins? Not the show, the actual ones. One of them is greed, and it's when anyone will do ANYTHING to get a quick buck. Here's a few examples:
1. Universal
The original owners of the Spyro series, they handed it out to other second party devs to make more games. One of which was Enter the Dragonfly. There was going to be a ton of content in the game, but as I'm sure you can guess, Universal rushed the devs to get it out by Christmas of 2002. Wanna know the result? The game was released unfinished and was poorly received.
2. Activision
After the success of the Skylanders franchise (apologies if you either have never heard of it or don't like it), Activision decided to double down in the fourth game in the series by having specific characters open up elemental gates.
Great video all the way through, you indeed didn't sugarcoat it.
Me a few minutes into the video: "Okay that's kinda good but not too insane"
Me after finishing the video: "What the fuck"
Bottom line: someone screwed up and this is the result.
I remember being somewhat interested in this game yeeeeaaaars ago just bc of the unique story mode (for a fg) but nowadays i forget it exists every time
MikeZ should help finish it. He is still with the publisher and knows the SGEngine pretty well
I mean he made the engine last time I checked. But they fired all the Devs who knew how to work the engine, so this is it. Still going to play it though.
Anybody know if they still havent fixed this😅
i havent played this since the elk dude came out. wtf happened to this game :( makes me sad
It’s pathetic and embarrassing tbh
Speaking as someone who's old and grizzled enough to have messed around in that ancient Fighting Is Magic demo, hearing about all this has been weirdly depressing. I'm not even a fighting-game person myself, I mostly knew about TFH through its pony-related roots, but the fact that the game and its devs are getting treated so terribly is a really bitter end to such a longtime project.
Right?!
To think this whole, triumphant thing is going down like this.
i do find it extremely funny how there was like 3 emergency edits made because new Baihe stuff got discovered after the original audio was recorded and despite that the THIRD infinite where she can just loop the reflector attack wasn't included Baihe meta is actually eternal
We found more shit by the way. Plus they didn’t even cover all the fucked up shit she could do. She now has 4 infinities.
Considering it's the last patch she truly is the best character
@@1inimilian567truly the sandbox character of all time
I remember watching the devstreams, and they explained that the way they develop a character's gameplay is by starting testing with them being super-mega-busted to find out what the most fun things to do with the character are, then scale things back while preserving those fun elements until things are relatively balanced.
That's actually a great process
My heart aches for this community. You all deserved better.
It's a complicated situation, but there's always that question in the back of the mind, of "how did they get here in the first place?"
Maybe that sounds like victim-blaming.
Yeah I remember cam being really rude
The way my jaw dropped when you said that all her specials are invul with a TK input, this character is a crime against humanity
This engine is cursed to have any game made for it be tainted by bad management and pissing off fans.
which is a goddamn shame because it is a SOLID engine with INCREDIBLE potential that feels so buttery smooth and comfortable
Good video. I just can't stand the thought of modus getting away with what they've done to the game and the devs. I've got no experience in editing but I'm gonna start a script and see where it takes me. Thanks for making this one.
I'd love to see what you make!!
"Why did they have to lay off people in a profitable year?" Welcome to capitalism! Money doesnt matter. Its all the money or nothing.

@@1inimilian567lololol no the fuck she would NOT be _top one_ in MVC2. She is _maybe_ broken enough to be somewhat competitive.

As a general rule of thumb, a character simply transplanted 1-to-1 from a different game/series is going to function... weirdly. If at all.

It's certainly a heck of a time. As much as the developers have done wrong over the years, and as much as they very much played a part in their own downfall, I don't think anyone wanted it to end like this. It's a damned shame and Modus is crazy for thinking this was remotely a good idea.
Yeah no one really did. We all kind a knew development was coming to an end and we weren’t getting story mode. At least everyone who could see sense thought that. We just kind of wanted the game to end in a good state so we could enjoy the product and recommend it to others. But you know. . . .

The free armor stance cancel into safety alone is bannable imo.
Publishers still going after EA's throne of embarrassment I see, a real pity it actively takes so much more effort to try reach.
This game is what got me into fighting games. I was ecstatic when Shanty, and later Texas and Stronghoof were introduced. Seeing this game left abandoned and broken is deeply saddening to me.
No more updates, characters, story mode, worst ending possible really, it's so sad (and kind of anoying, thank's maximum)
It is an interesting intellectual question: Would a full cancelation at the time of the C&D have been better for all involved?
I hope people have downloaded the stuff that got deleted or privated and can upload it somewhere for archival purposes
Came into contact with the game and the community a few years back
It's the reason I know the friends I know today, and the start of liking fighting games for me too
Stopped playing it as time went on because things seemed to feel worse and worse
Despite not playing it anymore, every piece of bad news still stings, and all this

So what you're saying is, Baihe could probably beat Goku.

Jeez, this company seems genuinely awful, and I was genuinely excited for Diesel Legacy. I wonder if some people will manage to make a community edition like with Kirby Fighters 2 (that game's awesome, it just never got any updates or patches). I'm sure the game's community will survive in some form, at least
I also wonder if someone has a script for the rest of the story mode, and if that would bring legal trouble if it got leaked by a dev?
And is it just me, or do the last two characters seem to have worse animation quality? But that might just be placebo or something

Im a SAR (super animal royale ) player I'm glad pixile cut ties with modus so that we didn't end up like this and they just buy out and abandon us and I'm sorry this happened to you guys no game should have to deal with this
Christ, with how OP Baihe is, I wonder if she could be considered even more busted than shit like SSF2T Akuma or Igniz from KoF. The General from Kaiser Knuckle seems like an apt comparison
I figure Baihe is much stronger than ST Akuma just off of the basis that she can be invulnerable the entire round lolz
So I was looking at Maximum's products to see what games I should avoid like the plague and immediately saw Super Animal Royale, a super fun twin stick shooter battle royale game that I put a lot of time into and immediately became afraid for the company behind it
SAR is dope, thankfully that team is not owned by Maxent!
Hopefully their experience with the publisher is a bit better
Honestly i adore this game too much,i really wish that this game wasn't run by those who are only interested in money over a community
My major hopes are either a different team picks up the game and continues or that someone ports and fixes the charecters for ikemen/mugen
Don’t know if anyone’s told you since you made this video, but Baihe is pronounced “Bye-Huh”, not “Bye-Hey”. It’s Mandarin for “white river”.
@@ziqi92 Never knew that thank you!
Can't wait to see Baihe on Salty Bet
she can definitely hang with the mugen high tiers
14:58 this fucking killed me. Ultimate power for a fighting game character.
LMAO
The amount of options baihe has reads as an April fools day joke
just disappointed, had high hopes for this game even just waiting for chapter 2 to drop after it was promised to find out that any future for it was getting canceled
OH. MY.
It's absolutely unfortunate what was once a beacon of inspiration for me just became another clog in the machine...
you should still join the community, the game rules and we'd love to have you!
@@PocoQuinnAlright! I'll be in one of the Discords!
I haven't followed this game since it was announced for the main stage at EVO. Sad to see this fall from grace.
All I knew she had a infinite, but I had no clue she was THIS broken holy
This was a great video! You've got a knack for breaking down complex topics into entertaining, accessible bits of info. I'm not too familiar with this game (nor fighting games in general) but even I can understand how awful this update is.
Hopefully this situation'll get better, although failing that, I hope at least that everything turns out well for this community.
Thank you!! I tried to make it at least somewhat accessible, so I'm glad to hear that helped!
And it's reflectable keeps surprising me💀
great breakdown of the whole situation, didnt realize how busted the new characters were. hopefully the community can come together to make their own patch or something
How to fix Baihe:
Just make the busted things cost resources, really!
Yeah ideally a fixed baihe would keep a lot of her strong properties, but require Magic to access some of them.
A lot of her problems would be solved just by making her require a resource
Thank you for being classy, Poco. especially with leading off with Viv's Gofundme.
absolutely, let's hit that goal!!
This is an excellent video, Poco. Thank you.
that means so much lindsay, thank you
This is heartbreaking to hear. I wasn't keeping up with the game, but I liked it and was waiting for more story mode content. I hope the people from Mane6 can pick themselves back up after this disaster.
I appreciate literally every single edit of the “DAYUM” oh her plus projectile.
Essentially, we have an SNK boss. Nice. Now to see if Baihe can beat General from Kaiser Knuckle in I.K.E.M.E.N. or M.U.G.E.N.
This is so awesome.
Btw, can i use some references of the video for art that i am making it?
sure, go for it!
alas poor modus person! i knew him, tianhuo
The sound at the end of Siege Cannon sounds like the "DAYUM!!" from Friday. I can't unhear it. It's like the move knows just how ridiculous it is.🤣
32:46 - Perfect "two" synchronization.
i'm not gonna sugarcoat it! Siege Cannon! i used to play valet and i like stroghoof too but Baihe is cool to. shame the game ended up this way
A thoughtful and dedicated explanation on the situation which honestly shocked me, keep up the good work on whatever else you do
Whelp, looks like it’s time to make a new game “horses and horse-like creatures beating the tar out of each other”
>buy the game with all the dlc
>2 more dlc's come out
>something pushes me to read the reviews
>Turns out I spent about 800rub (~$8) on a dead game
>Steam is discounting the remaining 2 dlc
-_-
As someone who remembers the original Fighting as Magic and that inspiring me to look more into fighting games as a whole, this absolutely saddens me.
