So I’ve never heard of this game until I just saw it on sale for switch. Is it worth putting $5 into it? Or has the publisher left it unplayable and I shouldn’t support them?

did Lauren Faust and the devs lose the rights to the IP? that's really bad if so

I love that Baihe is grossly overpowered, but even still, I have two things I take issue with: The staff SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN FIRED, THAT’S COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. (2) If they make any character broken/boss level, make a separate mode where people can play in where every character is broken and can just have fun, sort of like gold characters in GGXXAC+R

One question: was this ever patched?

Baihe is basically a playable version of Shin Akuma from the original SSF2 Turbo. My thing is, keep Baihe busted, but offer two versions: “casual” and “busted/boss”. “Casual” would be the only selectable version for online and tournaments.

watching publishers fuck over games feels just as bad as seeing music labels fuck over artist. companies are not human. they value fabricated things that they'll easily trade your way of life to get.

When you were discussing the fact that the corporation could delete the discord server, to then add that like 10 years of sacred history could be all deleted in one fell swoop, I instantly realized what you were saying, and I felt an intense sickening in my stomach. That’s horrible. All the history of the original game, to the Creator of MLP:FiM helping to get the game a new start, to the game’s official beginnings and launch to now, would all be completely gone in a snap. I’m genuinely feeling nauseous just thinking about this.

Imagine being the Baihe player starting the round just to realize halfway through the infinite that they unintentionally broke the game already and didn’t even do anything themselves. Just comboing the opponent just to eventually see they are literally frozen in place and have been since the round started.

This is the type of funny ass and expressively cool character you’d expect to see in some fighting game released in 1994 or something. Like heritage for the future or guilty gear og. Not a modern fighting game if this polish and support. I’m going to start calling this game “Them’s Bizarre Fightin’ Crusaders” or something

Hey, have you ever heard of the 7 deadly sins? Not the show, the actual ones. One of them is greed, and it's when anyone will do ANYTHING to get a quick buck. Here's a few examples: 1. Universal The original owners of the Spyro series, they handed it out to other second party devs to make more games. One of which was Enter the Dragonfly. There was going to be a ton of content in the game, but as I'm sure you can guess, Universal rushed the devs to get it out by Christmas of 2002. Wanna know the result? The game was released unfinished and was poorly received. 2. Activision After the success of the Skylanders franchise (apologies if you either have never heard of it or don't like it), Activision decided to double down in the fourth game in the series by having specific characters open up elemental gates. For context, previously, you didn't need that many toys to 100% a Skylanders game. Now, in this game, you need to buy 10 Trap Masters and 11 traps! My point is, greed can ruin, not just one person, but a whole group of people! And in my opinion, greed is the worst sin of them all!

The amount of options baihe has reads as an April fools day joke

I remember watching the devstreams, and they explained that the way they develop a character's gameplay is by starting testing with them being super-mega-busted to find out what the most fun things to do with the character are, then scale things back while preserving those fun elements until things are relatively balanced. So when they said the team was fired before QA could happen, it probably meant Baihe was still at super-mega-busted state before iterating towards balance.

I haven't followed this game since it was announced for the main stage at EVO. Sad to see this fall from grace.

I slept on this one then I bought it like a week or 2 before this all went down. Never been so pissed.

For the question about ‘why would you lay off an entire team if you’ve had a successful year’. The trick is that they’re fundamentally connected. ‘Why would you do it to a team that’s working on content people paid for already’ is the reason to fire them, they’re redundant from a short term revenue perspective. They already got the revenue, and now are able to cut costs of a team working on something people already bought. So from a yearly revenue perspective they made money at a lower cost. Now for the following year it leads to the problems you’ve mentioned about damaged reputation and less sales in this game, but even that issue is sidestepped by the announcement. The goal was to have a high revenue year so they can use that stat to parley negations with another company to get the rights/funding for the new avatar game, and hope that with the new ip people buy into that and the game damage they’ve done can be quietly walked away from.

What's almost more disappointing is the announcement that the story mode is just straight-up canned, leaving chapter 1 as the only story mode content. Story mode was looking SO promising (even though it ends on a cliffhanger), and it stings all the more because the devs had announced that after Nidra, the rest of story mode was next up for development. Canceling this is so incredibly dumb from a business standpoint. For better or worse, >90% of fighting game players are casuals who have little to no interest in multi-player. All FGs releasing recently that don't give casuals a reason to stick around are doomed to failure.

Yep, the Skullgirls curse continues. I don't blame Maximum. Mane6 had indiegogo money and two publishers at this point (Humble, Modus) and still failed to deliver story mode.

I know this video is now 3 weeks old and I probably won't be seen but I have to comment on here as someone who didn't see this video yet but have been following this game since it came to consoles. 1. Thank you for sharing the unholy tech that Baihe has. When I tried her out I thought she was definitely a little silly but was lacking in finding good proper openings, but I now see that I was truly bad with her even after finding out she had infinites. The fact that she has some of the loosest cancel opportunities in the game along side her broken ass buttons and her reflect, it's just insane. Also thank you for committing to having seige cannon having the SE everytime it's used in the footage. 2. All the bugs and stuff are honestly the things that just make this situation worse because I was most sad about the story mode never getting finished. That was the main reason I convinced my brother to try and pick it up to try and get him into fighters, but then this is pulled out and then one of the most awesome looking parts of the game doesn't get its chance to shine and actually get more people into the game. 3. Maximum games screwing over Mane 6 is easily the worst part of this. In the vid I know you were wondering why they laid the team off, and its because of every publisher rn. Covid made these companies go into a frenzy and now that things are back to normal, capitalizm strikes as investors need the line to keep going up. So they fire Mane 6 because their game is already out and they don't forcast any major future profits from it, and just want you to direct their attention towards their new stuff. It honestly makes me glad that as much as SG has gone through it, they can actually get the chance to finish their damn stuff. Like as much as people as that Future Club and Autumn "ruined" SG with it's censorship of aspects that are very understandable and normal people would actually be ok with and wouldn't of noticed if the devs didn't be honest, while TFH can't even the glory to be complete with content. I know you said that you didn't want this comment section to be a ranting section but I did just have to say it. The Z-Engine is still cursed either way. Anyways that's about it. Fantastic video! If you made more full on videos like this I would be super excited to watch them! You have a good style that would lend to more indepth disscussions

As someone who remembers the original Fighting as Magic and that inspiring me to look more into fighting games as a whole, this absolutely saddens me. I remembering being so excited to see this game be finally released and even recently got to experience myself first hand thanks to playstation sales. Seeing Mane6 just dissolve and with MaxEnterainment not giving us a clear answer and dumping a buggy update pisses me off. While I love Nidra's design and gameplay style, it kinda sucks Baihe is now just a buggy mess. Justice for the ex members of Mane6!!

Let this serve as a lesson for developers seeking a publisher: Don't.

Baihe is just guilty gesr 1 axl if he was good. Unfinished character who is invincible in some moves because the devs just didn't code in hurtboxes, but this is way more extreme and less funny than stuff like "axl has no hurtbox on frames 12 and 17 of his f.s"

MikeZ should help finish it. He is still with the publisher and knows the SGEngine pretty well

To be real honest... Aside from the literal game breaking bugs and player lockouts... I want this character to stay broken. We have never seen a character this STUPIDLY broken in a looooooooong time, like this is near Ivan Ooze levels of dumb.
