I did this mod a couple of months ago. Using the same Hamerworks mounting brackets. One thing I did differently was I installed an automatic switch attached to the ground wire. When the hood opens the lights automatically come on. Works fantastic!
I thought about going that route but seem to have the hood open more during the daytime anyway.
@@Tacomaholic Could always install an automatic switch but keep the manual switch as an override to shut it off in the day time. As always good vid.
Damn! That’s nice. Well done. Thanks Tacomaholic.
I saw a post on Reddit and thought to myself "dang I really hope he does an install vid on this!" Haha. Thank you!
Old Mercury Grand Marquis under-the-hood lights have mercury switches built right in (so they come on when you open the hood). I use to go to the junk yards and get them for next to nothing and install them in other cars or pickups I'd get. They only use one wire, because the mount attachment is grounded well enough when you screw it to a rib under the hood (to complete the circuit). A person could swap the cheap incandescent bulb with a bright efficient LED cob lamp to make them brighter.
The underside of your hood is insanely clean! Looks good! Glad the kit worked out!
Ha ha thanks buddy! Love the brackets. Simple Green for under the hood. 😃
I was able to run the wires through the hole at the end of the bracket by pulling the clear cover back on the black wire...The black wire went through the hole then the red wire...I bought extra brackets to run lights under the truck with some very strong magnets I got off Amazon that have a small threaded rod that the bracket will attach to.
Those are sweet. I don’t think I need them but must have anyways.
I know right lol? I preordered my 2021 TRD Pro and haven't even gotten it yet and I'm already planning mods to be done ha!
Dayum those are bright!
Dude this is legit! Definitely going to be looking into this.
Bought a $12 LED strip off of Amazon and it's at least that bright if not brighter. Cost me $22 total with wires and a switch.
That’s what I did originally but the adhesive wasn’t great and I was worried about it falling and getting caught in the radiator fan or serpentine belt.
Excellent!
Wow, really nice!
👍
The rubber encapsulated nuts are called "well" nuts. The wiper grill cover is called the cowl.
The hood was originally called an engine cowl; it started way back in the days of tractors. Jet engines also have cowls around them today.
Boogie, how hard would it be to caption these awesome vids for your deaf and hard of hearing fans?
I thought UA-cam was adding closed captions automatically, but I guess not so I'll have to look into it and see what's involved.
Follow-up response ... I checked some of the last few vids I uploaded and closed captions is working on those, so I assume it just takes UA-cam a little while to get them added for a new video.
I can't find the link for the installation brackets. Can you give it to me please?
You just need to comment on this thread that you want a set: www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3d-printed-rock-light-mount.669909/
Any idea what the current draw is on these? I figured that if you are using these for maintenance then you are likely doing so without the engine running. I was wondering how long you could burn them without significantly draining the battery.
Spec sheet says 0.25-0.55 amps.
I ordered the brackets and the lights...There is no hardware to attach the KC lights to the bracket...What did you use?
If I remember correctly my KC kit came with hardware, but if not you can get something at a hardware store. Are you using the same holes in the hood that I used in this vid?
@@Tacomaholic The hardware came for the Hamerworx Brackets to mount to the hood...What did you use to attach the lights to the bracket?...The washers provided for the screws to mount to the hood are too big to even go into the center hole of the KC lights...I hate when you have to go find something to make what you ordered work...I ordered some Ampper Rock Lights, they should fit the brackets.
Do u have a link for them brackets. Thanks

What is the power tray and that black (source) box?
That's the SPOD 6-switch relay system I installed in this vid: ua-cam.com/video/erotP050Tmg/v-deo.html
I'm surprised you're just now doing this.
I definitely should have done it sooner.
that's cute...
Your hood has shocks. my don't, I have to use a prop.
Yep those are the Redline Tuning hood struts: amzn.to/3jZw04o
you have faith in me? a guy who took 2 months to put aftermarket stereo in, am laughing cause i know you might be getting emails on how to do this or will be back to rewatch
This kit is super easy to install.
@@Tacomaholic I am getting 1 of those
