  • This is the 7th Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) performing the iconci speech from
'The Pandorica Opens', originally performed by the 11th Doctor Matt Smith.
    FULL SPEECH:
"Hello, Stonehenge. Who takes the Pandorica takes the Universe, only bad news everyone cause guess who?! Hah! Listen you're all whizzing about, it's really very distracting, so could you all just stay still a minute because I am talking! Now, question of the hour is who has the Pandorica? Answer I do, next question, who's coming to take it from me? Come on... look at me no plan, no backup, no weapons worth a damn. Oh, and something else, I don't have anything to lose so if your sitting up there in your silly little spaceships with all your silly little guns and you have any plans on taking the Pandorica tonight just remember who's standing in your way; remember every black day I ever stopped you and then, and then, do the smart thing and let somebody else try first.
Speech above scripted from Matt Smith's original performance. McCoy's may differ slightly

Honestly the way Sylvester reads this, you really think this speech was actually written for 7. It’s so good considering he was doing it at a random convention with no real practice.

Considering that McCoy is doing a cold read, I think he did an awesome job. I do think that we have to keep in mind, the speech was written for Matt, for the personality that he brings to the Doctor, for his way of speaking. If Sylvester puts a slightly different emphasis on the speech, it's because his style is different.

Also, the way Smith said it it was not quite clear where the punctuation, but I kind of preferred this sentence:

    to this:
"Oh, and something else: I don't have anything to lose!"

    Favourite speeches from 7th:
    Afterlife: "Fear me..."
    Curse of Fenric: "Kill Her..."
Remembrance: "Unlimited rice pudding..." + "Every great decision..."
Happiness Patrol: "You like guns, don't you?" + "Do these things make you happy?"
Dragonfire: "The homeless traveller and his old police box..."
    Battlefield: "Machines of death..."
Survival: "There are worlds out there..."
Can't include Pandorica as it's 11th's, with Sylvester being his crowd pleasing self - but if he was doing a televised version (instead of a cold-read), I know it would be perfect.

If they got McCoy and/or Sophie to cameo in any shape or form in present Who, I would squee like a little girl, much like I did when I first saw the flying Dalek in Rememberance (the first ever episode I ever saw as a kid). To think the era/McCoy got so much flak due to the decline at the time. It's nice to see him get some appreciation all these years later. I don't think many people understand just how much McCoy/Sophie/Cartmel influenced what is now called "NewWho".

Out of all the Pandorica speeches done by anyone else other than Smith, McCoy did it the best especially considering that he did this on a dime! I love McGann's Big Finish performance, but his convention speeches are a bit dry considering that he has no prep time to prepare. The same goes for Peter Davison

Shortly after making the speech, and the various ships fly off.
Doc "Right, that should keep them busy for a bit, now, lets see how things are going downstairs" starts heading into the bunker whilst talking on the communicator "River, how's it going with getting my tardis here"?
River "On my way sweetie, this consoles just not one I'm used to, what do half of these controls do by the way"?
Doc "I'm still trying to work out what my fifth incarnation was thin- Ace, why did you have to go and do that"?
Ace "It's just a precaution professor, always good to have a backup you say"
    River "What's happening sweetie? trouble"
Doc "Not exactly, ill get back to you" shuts off the communicator "Precautions, Ace, entail a fail safe that disables a device before it becomes a threat, covering the device in nitro nine does not fall into the category of safe"! and he was right, the amount of explosives on the Pandorica, if indeed it had come to setting them off, would have not only destroyed the device, but also stone henge, and a small amount of the country side in the process.

Personally though, what I find to be the best difference of them all was how little emphasis Sylvester puts on the "I am talking".
Matt's was great, but McCoy shows how he doesn't have to be loud, but the Doctor wants those aliens to stop whizzing about, and still gets the attention, because after all, this is the Doctor, they may be out to get him, but maybe it would be worth erring on the side of caution and doing what he says.

Skylar Lee Sylvester had a much darker doctor than Matt's. I'm pretty sure if Sylv was given the conditions Matt had, it would be just as amazing as it is different, for each of the doctor's incarnations has their own persona.
Also, you must not speak to large crowds all that often because anyone who does is aware and would respectfully admit that there is a stark contrast between impromptu and rehearsed. Moreso when being compared between an amateur recording and a fully produced and well budgeted season finale.

    • @bulbapologist7096
      @bulbapologist7096 10 років тому +5

      Skylar Lee
Understandably, it's all fine if you still say Matt can only do this speech justice, that could probably still be true. But do remember, it was tailored for Matt and his doctor, made exclusively and primarily for him.
So to be fair to both actors. Imagine Matt recited a speech, written and composed for Sylvester's doctor, on the spot, first time, with only a piece of script in his hands. You spoke of 'Character's nature', how do you think Matt would fare? A compassionate and loving doctor, who puts the lives of his companions above concerns belonging to tremendous scales (the fate of the universe even!) and who is also willing to die alongside with them, reciting the speech of a manipulative and shrewd doctor who sees his friends and enemies like pieces on a chessboard, taking into account only the bigger picture, the struggle between good and evil, and deceives and lies to his companions if necessary to achieve a favored result. Seventh was treated with disdain and dislike by most, if not all, of the classic doctors (based on certain episodes, books, and comics). 11th, compared to the new series doctors 10 and 11, is unarguably softer (much softer if compared to 10) than his predecessors (based on series and printed sources).

Then as it goes on, the smile fades and it turns more serious until finally he's just glaring and leaning totally forward. Then at the very end of the speech when the space ships are gone he smirks again.

@all13Doctors You're probably right. After all, this speech fit Matt Smith to a tee. He hit every note just right in that speech. I love watching the 2010 Proms version of the speech with the Cybermen, Cylerians, and vampire girls watching the Doctor, then leaving along with the others on the screen as the music crescendos!

I said that judging on the Doctor's reaction while regenerating into 11. It was evident he admired his 10th incarnation fondly therefore his next incarnation would obviously admire it a lot.

+Doctor Who Fan I disagree. Nine could definitely pull it off, albeit with very different tone and inflection from the original. He'd alternate between goofiness and tranquil fury.
"Hello, Stonehenge!" *waves, grins* "Who takes the Pandorica takes the universe!"
*suddenly darker and slower* "But bad news, everyone. 'Cos guess who."
*goofy* "Ha! Listen, you lot. You're all whizzin' about, and it's really very distracting. Could you all just stay still for a minute, because..."
      *darker* "I am talking."
*goofy again* "Now, the question of the hour is: who's got the Pandorica? Answer: I do! Next question..."
*darker* "Who's comin' to take it from me?"
*loud, crazy* "Come on! Look at me! No plan, no backup, no weapons worth a damn..."
*goofy* "Oh, and something else I don't have..."
      *darker* "...Anything to lose."
*goofy* So, if you're sittin' up there in your silly little spaceships, with all your silly little guns, and you've got any plans on takin' the Pandorica tonight..."
*darker* Just remember who's standin' in your way. Remember every black day I ever stopped you. And then...and then...do the smart thing: let someone else try first."

On the note of 'Big Finish' you might like to know that they've confirmed a special multi-Doctor audiobook titled 'The Light At The End' and it feature's the 4th to 8th Doctors to celebrate the 50th anniversary.

McCoy was my Doctor and will always be my Doctor. Also, without Ace we would not have had Rose. As for who likes who best in the actors: Matt took his cue from Patrick Troughton ... Frazer Hines recognises most of Troughton's quirks in Matt's performance. Interestingly, McCoy ALSO took his cue from 2 and played like the Clown until the moment got tough. I can see some of McCoy in the Eleventh Doctor's performance.

Did always love Silversters darker more narcissistic tone as The Doctor, I'm pretty young but Remembrance of the Daleks will always be one of my favourite episodes, 7th Doctor is what I'd imagine a TimeLord to be mysterious, cunning, narcissistic, emotionless, looks down on others kinda aristocratic stiff upper lip pfft tone. And Silverster nails that at times.

@DoctorDragonball Guessed that, but totally agree. A multidoctor story is really the only thing fitting for the 50th anniversary, but Christopher Eccleston has already said that he isn't too keen about returning for it, like Tom Baker, but Tom Baker said that he would prefer a cameo rather than play a major role in the story, and I think Eccleston would be similarly minded, so I think that the only way we could get Eccleston in would be to have McGann regenerate into him
