- 7th Doctor Sylvester McCoy talks sonic screwdrivers & reads the Stonehenge Pandorica speech during the Bit of a Chat w/ Ken Plume panel at DragonCon 2011.
As promised, this features master camera video from the event.
I love Sylvester Mccoy so much. He genuinely seems interested in the fans, and isn't afraid to do that in front of all those people. Plus Radaghast.
I'm glad that Sylvester got a big role after Doctor Who. The unfortunate thing about playing the Doctor is that, unless you're already a massive star like John Hurt, you often get typecast after doing it. The younger Doctors have time to break out of typecasting but Sylvester's no spring chicken, so I'm pleased that Peter Jackson gave him a shot at a role outside of the show.
@@tomnorton4277 I think the Doctors have a much easier time of it, though, since Big Finish is always waiting in the wings (feverishly rubbing their hands together, excited grins on their faces) to invite them in for MANY audio adventures down the road. They'd never be wanting for work. That said, I agree with you. To his credit, Sylvester was an accomplished actor who even performed as a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company before Doctor Who, and that sort of clout surely helps one to keep working, even if it means going toe-to-toe with the likes of Sir Ian McKellen.
He got darker near the end of the speech, echoes of his chessmaster Doctor. Legit

Best part is he said the same line they used on the show without intending to.
"And say to the other Doctor's 'mine is bigger than yours!'"
LMAO, that's so much funnier because of how in the actual special Tennant accuses Smith of "compensating" because he has the bigger sonic. :P

He actually gave me chills when doing the speech. He's a really impressive actor.
He was also one of the funniest people I've seen.
The final line "let someone else try first" gave me chills.
Omg I just noticed... When he pulls out the Sonic screwdriver in the middle of the speech, HES HOLDING IT BACKWARDS.... AGAIN XD (Some things never change XD)
I don't know why McCoy got so much hate. he was one of my favourites!
TheLonelyTrooper Everyone thinks Matt is the good one but the 7th is the real gangsta tho. My fav tho tbh is the 8th doctor.

At the end, McCoy was definitely back in character as the 7th Doctor at his coldest. Reminded me of when he was threatening the Daleks in one episode from his tenure. Any villain with a brain would have left the system.
Agreed. He definitely was getting back into his stride around "Just remember who's standing in your way." From that moment on, it was ALL Seven, reminding us just why we shivered when he was introduced after the whole revelation with the Valeyard during Colin's stint.
And yes, with Seven giving that speech, even Daleks would be going "Not worth it. He knows something we don't. We know when he's bluffing. He's DEADLY serious, right now."
That's because the last time the Daleks called the Doctor's bluff, the Doctor blew up Skaro.
Basically a microcosm of the Seventh Doctor here. He starts out light and airy and gets darker as he proceeds. Well done.

I can really imagine his doctor at stonehenge making that speech - and really in all of the revived series episodes. Just shows how even though the doctor's face and personality change all the time he really is the same person.
If his doctor had made the speech, The Doctor's enemies would have huddled up and said " forget this , he's probably got a bomb for us down there."

5:10 The 7th Doctor has a GREAT take on this scene (and I can literally see the storyboard and the scenes in my mind. 6:07 Other Doctors have nailed parts of this speech but... this could have EASILY been written specifically for McCoy.
The feeling JNT had towards the sonic screwdriver is how it really should be, especially in the most recent series'. This is one of the few things I like about JNT.

Sylvester is one of the best Doctors. The writing in his seasons were rough but I LOVE Sylvester himself as the character.

Sylvester McCoy is really funny and he did a fine job reading the Pandorica Speech. Wish I 'd seen more of his doctor.
I feel like Seventh won't have to finish the speech since his enemies are already gone out of fear.
"When I pull this out, I can say 'Mine's bigger than yours!'"
What's funny about this line is that's exactly what Smith and Tennant did when they showed off each other's sonic screwdrivers.
"No weapons (worth a damned).... *Bzzz*" I laughed so hard at that.
It's really not a Seven speech, either - and Seven got GREAT speeches; the master of talking the ill-tempered into despair and fear. Done in-character, he'd be unsmiling and grim the whole way through rather than just at the end, his face on every ship's screen - The Doctor is speaking, not roaring, perhaps even whispering, but absolutely none of the aliens doubt for a moment that he WILL find a way to make the rest of their days DARK.
...When the stars go out, ask Seven what he's been up to.

I tried to count how long he can just sit still for doing nothing and just listen what that interviewer is going to say AND THE RECORD WAS UNDER FIVE SECONDS.
That man is like some adorable little kitten who's excited about everything he's just able to see. :D

:D I haven't watched McCoy yet, but just listening to him right now, I think he's absolutely hilarious. In the words of nine, "This is absolutely FANTASTIC!"
This was quite awesome, if for no other reason then because it was interesting to see how differently two Doctors who took inspiration from the same actor (both McCoy and Smith based their characters heavily on the Second Doctor) interpreted the same scene.

This makes me want to check out some of his Big Finish stuff. After I wrap up with 8's stuff in going to give 7 a run. From everything I read, he was one of the most unique Doctors....Sociopath like.
Like this lots. I've seen another version on UA-cam but this is longer (with some wonderfully witty retorts from Sylvester McCoy) and much better quality. Very nice indeed.

That said, 'All your silly little guns' reminds me of Seven's famous sniper speech.
At one moment he scared me to death with that. Brilliant.

Watching the interviews for actors who have played the Doctor really shows how incredible these guys are. Most of them are just as enjoyable to watch as themselves, as well as their portrayal of the Doctor. This video made me laugh :D
I love this man! Truly one of the most under appreciated Doctors. His performance had such depth to it
That bit with the sonics had me cracking up. He just seems like a great guy to hang out with.
I always wonder what episodes would be like if a different doctor were in it, this satisfies at least a bit of that curiousity

I watched him during the original broadcast of his episodes, and despite any criticism, I still think he is brilliant! There is room in the Doctor Who mythos for different types of personalities, and in the continuity, he was a good transition from Colin Baker's portrayal (I love Colin as well, met him in person and he was absolutely lovely). At any rate, cheers to all Whovians and all of the Whoverse! Allonsy!

I think that McCoy did a very good reading and I think his doctor could have pulled off this though his personality was different from Matt Smith's Doctor. But the doctor I want to hear the Pandorica Speech from is Colin Baker because I think this speech fits his Doctor perfectly.

You made the comment nine months ago, so I don't know if you've gotten around to it, but definitely watch Sylvester McCoy's episodes if you can. I started Who with Matt Smith and went all over the place, finding the DVD's whenever I could. And off all the old doctors, I absolutely fell in love with Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred.

OMG, i still haven't watched the classic who stories, but after watching this, I just want to go locked myself for a month and catch up with all that!! Sylvester McCoy is AMAZIING!! I mean, I love Matt doing this scene, but Mr McCoy wasn't bad at all!!

I'm fully behind that. I think Tennant's would be amazing but Eccleston's would require a trouser change directly following... And Tom Baker... That would be the one I am most interested to hear :)
The absolutely amazing thing is, watching this back to back with Smith's version, there are certain lines ("Who's got the pandorica? I DO", "Do the smart thing - Let someone else try first") where their delivery is nearly identical. It's a credit to Smith that he can unintentionally make his Doctor act the same way McCoy's would have.
McCoy reminds me of my grandpa and its great!

Yeah, I think he did really well considering it's the first time he's ever read it and it was actually almost how his Doctor would say it. If he had time to read it through once beforehand then I think he would've done it easy as anything.
Oh, I wish I could find a side where I could watch all the episodes with him....he is soooooo perfect!
