Gena, last night I binged a ton of your videos, after buying some products to help my hair. I'm 52, and had just accepted that my hair would be a frizzy mess. Been squeezing, towel drying and excessively crunching my curls all my life. After watching your videos, I had hope. Today, I washed and conditioned (still waiting on the clarifying shampoo) used Carol's DaughterCoil Enhancing Moisture Butter, Not Your Mother's Curl Talk cream and then gel, microplopped, twisting curls into the frizzy parts, and then diffused. My hair looked 1000x better just from doing this once. My hair color is kind of different, I'm graying in the back first. (Curls are everything from 2c to 3c). So my hair is dark in front, and nearly white in back. I can't wait until it's fully restored, its going to be look awesome! Thank you so much for these videos, I just didn't know that I had to actually spend time with curly hair and use more than one product if I wanted it to look good.
I really love Not Your Mother's curl cream alongside their gel and mousse. I think it holds even better than their gel tbh. It's my favorite product in their line.
the not your mothers hard hold gel is my holy grail gel!! i love it so much, providing fantastic hold and protein. i love a good hard hold gel. i do find that it is too drying for me to use often in cold weather. that’s where harry’s sculpting gel comes in!! this is another drugstore hard hold gel. these two are similar in consistency but the harry’s gel also holds in moisture SO well. i find it’s too moisturing for the warmer months, but this is my holy grail winter gel
also, the harry’s gel is usually found in the men’s section. that being said, it does have a stronger scent reminding me of cologne, but personally i love the scent. i know strong scents aren’t good for everyone though, so i wanted to mention that
These videos are so helpful, and I’ve found drugstore products that work for me based on them. One thing that would be a great added feature is how strong the fragrance is on the list of ingredients. I know it’s all subjective. A few of the Twist products have fragrance pretty high up on the list which IMO is strong. I ended up returning to Amazon, but will try other Twist products to see if the fragrance is still strong. Thanks!
I also love cantu's cream gel and finishing it off with wetline's xtreme gel (mixed with water for distribution). Lots of hold, moisture, protection and without residu or hard crunch.
My favorite drugstore brand has been the Cake Curl line so far. It seems to bring out my curls a little better. I have the Twist gel. It's really good too! I'm interested in trying the Curl Talk Bond Building and Umberto Giannini Curl Jelly Shampoo and Conditioner. Thanks for the recommendations!
@@GenaMariehave you ever tried the Cake dry refresher? It’s a cream that’s supposed to mist but the sprayer gets clogged. I have no idea how I’m supposed to use it.
Thank you so much for all of this hard work!! It has been so helpful to me!😊 Also, thank you for teaching about styling hair while it is still wet/damp--I never knew to do that, and have been styling *after* it is dry. It is no wonder, it has been working against me all this time! I'm (((still))) working to get clumpier and less crunchy AND with long lasting hold. So thank you for sharing all of this information! You are saving me from throwing in the (hair repear) towel and settling on 'good enough' products... LOL
I like curls blueberry for a like curl cream. I like uncle funky’s daughter curl activator as a light gel, but mostly use it as a refresh mostly. I like Mielle babassu deep conditioner. I get a good cast from Giovani gel.
Great video. Love the Not Your Mother's Mousse and recently purchased the NYM Whipped Cream. Did you say in the video you used them together? What order did you apply them?
We see a lot of clarifiers that rid the hair of oil and product residue. I'd like to find one that clarifies hard water residue from hair without damaging it. I have to regularly descale shower walls, take pumice to the hard water stains in toilets, descale shower heads, etc. I've no doubt it builds up on my hair too, it's not like I can take a loofah to my hair like I can to my skin.
Hey girl!!! love ur videos!!!! I live in Spain and pretty much all the products you suggested are super expensive here (like over 20 dollars)...any suggestions for brands/products that are easy to find and not crazy expensive outside of the US?
I haven’t found a strong hold gel better than LA Looks Sport Xtreme Hold Gel at any price point. I use it on day one over a curl cream, and then use the Twist gel, watered down, for day two and three refreshes.
That is exactly the same thing I use (the LA looks sport xtreme hold gel). I find it’s the only gel that will hold my curls the way I love. The blue has never dried my hair. Plus it is alcohol free.
My daughter uses inexpensive gel & gets quick, beautiful results. Keeps it simple. I also have curly hair, but get it professionally blown out every month. I brush it with a wide tooth brush. It grew to my waist with no damage, limiting washing. Use dry shampoo in between. Too many products, messing with it & over washing causes damage
FYI-Bio Ionic is having a sitewide 30% off sale today only- 10/19. I got the Goldpro Speed Dryer and the diffuser for a total of $115, with free shipping! It would have been $165 normally.
A really good curl cream it's a bit thick but I really love it us the Shea Moisture Intensive Hydration Leave in milk wuth the Manuka Honey and Marufa Oil it's definitely use it sparingly if you have finer lower density hair i have fine strands yet I have medium to high density hair so I can use thicker and more heavy products since my hair tends to love thicker and super hydrating products
Hi could you touch on what shampoo and how often to wash if in chlorinated pool at least 3x a week please (and conditioning) I feel like,I could be overwashing so someday I just rinse with water as I know I'm back in pool the next day..thanks
I have such fine hair that every time I use a curl cream (and I use maybe a pea sized amount) AND a gel, my hair falls flat in an hour, no matter how strong the hold. I'd love to try the NYM stronger hold one, as I have the other lighter wait gel, and it does ok but again, everything falls flat by the end of the day.
I hear you! My hair is not only fine, but low density as well. So curl creams are mostly off the table for me. I do use a tiny amount of Design Me Bounce Me Curl Balm which gives my hair some slip and softness. When I say tiny amount I mean just a trace on one fingertip. I then mix with water to help it distribute better.
@@Halo2glitchlover22 that just over moisturizes my hair. I've started using a leave in as a wash out conditioner and that's worked really well. And hairspray (the Bounce Curl one) on damp hair. That's helped a lot!:
Great video! I am a fan of NYM bond building shampoo and conditioner, mousse, and hard hold gel! I am still in search of a “favorite” gel but will say I like Curlsmith’s In Shower Style Fixer. My next products to try are 4U line and also Umberto Gianinni’s, especially Banana Butter - they will be bday splurges! Thank you for the discount codes and product sorter.❤️
I have to wash my hair in the daily. The plant I work at leaves my hair smelling like a motor 🥴 any product you recommend for daily use? Without coconut oil it tends to dry my hair out. Thanks 😊
So, I have a suggestion for a halloween video sort of. There is this moisturizing hair treatment stuff at Sally beauty that has placenta in it. Can you review if for us?
Can you recommend a good hairspray or finishing spray at drugstore prices that doesn't dry out your hair? I used to like a Marc Anthony one, but they must have discontinued it because I can't find it anymore.
I bought a can of Eva NYC hairspray. Their prices are kinda halfway between drugstore and salon. They aren’t as cheap as Aussie but they won’t set you back like Redken.
Art Naturals Argan Oil Curl defining cream is also so good so is they're entire arrangement Oil line I highly recommend it also ogx air dry cream creams are good especially their coconut and there argan oil lines
I can never find anything to fix my frizz at the top of my hair / all around till midway on my head….. it’s so bad right now I’m beginning to think it’s the water in my house I just keep my hair up all the time now plus bring new time mom 5months pp.. I really wish I could find products to fix my frizz to hold my curls my scalp is dry as well
i have thin low porosity curls (M), last year my curls were fuller and also had a lot more, I shaved my head, I'm growing them back now, I have so many bald spots on the crown area of my head, I'm using shea moisture, I'm legit about to cry I don't know what to do , pleas help me, I'm looking at old pics and the same timespan I started growing my hair, last year I had a lot more than I have now with the same time of growing, I'm lost , pleas help me
Most of these are brands unknown to me. Sadly. I do get a lot of my off brand stuff from Lidl & Aldi (500ml of shampoo for 79 eurocents, no kidding, and it's *good stuff* as well).

Yes! I would use the whipped cream first then the mousse so that way the strongest hold is on top.

I can't find this brand in stores anymore. My husband and I were looking for it a few months ago.

My curls are ultra fine..should I use a leave in??
You can and should if your hair feels dry and/or frizzy without any product it it. Just don’t use too much.
Hii, what do you think of redken acidic bonding shampoo and conditioner?
I’ve never tried it!
What leave in has the most moisture and the least amount of protein thank you
One of the best I’ve been using for years is the Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave-In. It’s protein-free and very moisturizing.
