I have a different theory. I had a Macbook Air with magsafe a while back, and the problem with the magsafe connector on it, was that it doesn't disconnect when someone trips over it because the Macbook Air was too lightweight. The Macbook Air would be pulled off the table together with the magsafe cable and the disconnect would not happen. I believe magsafe worked on earlier versions of Macbooks because their weight was sufficient to hold the laptop in place if the magsafe cable was yanked out. But laptops today do not have sufficient weight to make magsafe work the way they intended it to hence it no longer makes sense to include it when USB C can do the same function, and much more. Just a theory though, nobody will know the truth except the engineers who worked on the Macbooks.

Low power mode on the iPhone is basically the OS saying “Sorry, no more being a computer in your pocket. I’m just going to be a phone for now until you charge me”. In other words, the potential of being able to take an important call at any time, is using the iPhone, even if it doesn’t seem to be. But you don’t need an iPad to be on standby like that.
Dedicated charging port means dedicated charger/charging cable. If it's something that requires more than 100W to charge properly, then maybe it's a good choice, since you won't be able to use it without a charger for too long. But otherwise, being able to take a single charger and a single cable for all devices is probably more beneficial to having the power cable trip-resistant.

Ah yes the simplicity of finding the type c port and plugging in the cable instead of just taking the cable near the Mac an it being plugged in automatically. The simplicity is unbelievable
USB-C doesn't pull out safely like magsafe :/ its the worst when it comes to that sort of thing, that you'd have to hide away the cable to prevent the device from being jerked around.
IMO it was a big mistake to remove mag safe. It was designed to be a safety mechanism in case someone steps on the charging cable. USB-C is very fragile IMO and is a really bad connector for a charger. I understand the decision but it was kind of a step backwards, so now your laptop is very vulnerable to damage again. I also find that it can be a bit confusing having USB-C being used for EVERYTHING. Can you use your phone charger to charge your laptop? How about for your vape? Different voltages means the entire point of USB-C is flushed down the drain. Making the decision to have a dedicated port for a charger just makes more sense and IMO makes things way simpler
Do you know what USB PD is? This is literally fixing the "voltage problem". Yes, you can charge your MacBook with your IPad cable and vice versa right now
@@uranium_donut There are USB-C’s in a lot of different pieces of tech, not just iPads and MacBooks. E.g my Lenovo has a USB-C as a charging port and my friend tried to charge his vape (which also has a USB C port) using my laptop charger. Needless to say it blew out his vape and it stopped working (and it’s not because the cable was faulty or whatever). My point is, how do you know if a USB-C works on a different device? Having unique ports for certain devices IMO makes things less complicated and more black and white, having one port for EVERYTHING makes it much more confusing
This explanation is what a diehard fanboy would come up with. It’s expected that MagSafe will make a return later this year in the new Apple Silicon 14” and 16” MBP. Also the explanation of USB-C being safely removable, that’s is false. Ask anyone in IT how well it works. Plenty of MacBook Airs have flown off desks in schools and USB-C ports damaged because it’s not magnetic. Hoping they bring it back. My 2014 13” MBP is still going strong, but chokes when attempting to edit 4K content.
I always keep my MacBook plugged in if I'm near an outlet, otherwise you're wearing the battery out needlessly by discharging and recharging it over and over
So, apple always wants to know better than me what I need. Like 3.5 mm Jack, Magsafe, Replaceable RAM or storage. Eh. That's why I probably won't ever upgrade my 2015 Retina
Hi Greg, I really love the song you use in the background of all your videos! It is super chill and relaxing - please could you tell me what it is called? Thank you! 😊
Greg, you sorta forgot to mention that the MacBooks nowadays can also be charged with powerbanks now, which are of cos normally placed on a table, which no one would trip over.
Researched a bit on this topic before. I didn't reached the same conclusion though. I think they removed the magsafe because it was always breaking the cables. The USB-C cables are stronger and stiffer and doesn't create knots that slowly burns the cables. You can't have a stiff cable with magsafe, because it will easily disconnect when you move your laptop. With magsafe you want to have a flexible cable, because then you can move around your laptop easily without it being disconnected. Sadly, flexible cables breaks more easily due to knots being created and that increases the electrical resistance and in time the cables slowly burns and breaks. Essentially, you want a flexible cable that is able to rotate around a connector, to eliminate the knots.
What could be simpler, easier and more convenient than the MagSafe? Nothing they've come up with so far. I mean, just the ease of it snapping into place by itself. No need to fiddle around to find the exact right spot. Removing it made things more complicated, less convenient, and so on.
or why apple removed magsafe was so they could sell more macbooks. if you tripped over the cable and broke your mac book. that was an expensive repair or even more expensive replacement as i am not sure if applecare would cover user faults.
I'm honestly not sure if Apple will re-include MagSafe on MacBooks. Currently, Apple has also used the MagSafe name on another product line: the iPhone 12's magnetic charging accessories. And while they have some similarities to the Mac's MagSafe (the magnetic charging mechanism) that justify the sharing of the name, these are completely different product categories.
i love usb-c. and i enjoyed your comment on how it's similar to mag-safe where if you yank the cord it is designed to not bring the laptop with it. I just tested it, and you're right, amazing!

I love your videos! Keep up the AMAZING work!!
Why do I keep watching these, I don't even own any apple product 😂😅
Same, the reason I watch these videos is to make sure that Android/PC is ahead
@@Ved_Overclocked I don't want to involve myself in the android vs apple war 😂 but of course I'm gonna root for the platform I use.
Ah yes the simplicity of finding the type c port and plugging in the cable instead of just taking the cable near the Mac an it being plugged in automatically.
The simplicity is unbelievable
This didn't age well
I have the last Mac with mag safe and a sd card slot. I love not having to carry a dongle being a photographer
"Why the Macbook's MagSafe Connector Was Removed"
Easily because Apple wants more money for the accessories lol
@@nosoyyo527 .... the adaptors to connect HDMI and USB A
USB-C doesn't pull out safely like magsafe :/
its the worst when it comes to that sort of thing, that you'd have to hide away the cable to prevent the device from being jerked around.
Pog now it's back LMAO
They removed it because it worked without breaking
Well, this video is awkward…
When I had my MacBook Pro, I really enjoyed the MagSafe charger. They should totally bring that back!
I agree, and rumor has it that the new MBP models will have it again, sometime this year.
This video didn't age well.
MagSafe is cool until you have a cat that chews through the wire.
And a cat wouldn't chew through a normal wire? Stupid argument
next video: why steve jobs only pooped once a week
Next video why I make videos
Apple a day keeps the poo poo away
I always keep my MacBook plugged in if I'm near an outlet, otherwise you're wearing the battery out needlessly by discharging and recharging it over and over
So, apple always wants to know better than me what I need. Like 3.5 mm Jack, Magsafe, Replaceable RAM or storage. Eh. That's why I probably won't ever upgrade my 2015 Retina
Thumbs up after you found out that 2021 Macbook pro brought back magsafe! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
The answer is: …because Steve Jobs died.
He sounds like a spokesperson for Apple
Essentially, you want a flexible cable that is able to rotate around a connector, to eliminate the knots.
its funny how they removed magsafe and brought it back again
What could be simpler, easier and more convenient than the MagSafe? Nothing they've come up with so far.
I mean, just the ease of it snapping into place by itself. No need to fiddle around to find the exact right spot.
Removing it made things more complicated, less convenient, and so on.
Guess who’s back, back again…
or why apple removed magsafe was so they could sell more macbooks.
if you tripped over the cable and broke your mac book. that was an expensive repair or even more expensive replacement as i am not sure if applecare would cover user faults.
Please also explain about weird charging style of mouse
MacBook Air M2 Already has MagSafe
I'm honestly not sure if Apple will re-include MagSafe on MacBooks. Currently, Apple has also used the MagSafe name on another product line: the iPhone 12's magnetic charging accessories. And while they have some similarities to the Mac's MagSafe (the magnetic charging mechanism) that justify the sharing of the name, these are completely different product categories.
It was leaked it could most likely happen by reliable leakers
i love usb-c.
and i enjoyed your comment on how it's similar to mag-safe where if you yank the cord it is designed to not bring the laptop with it. I just tested it, and you're right, amazing!
Jony Ive and his push for bare, simplistic, and minimalistic design. This has been reverting in many ways since his leaving Apple. I Believe not everyone at Apple 100% believed in his design approaches.
Guess Greg has to do a “why Apple brought back magsafe” vid now
Eyyy Magsafe is back
