I have been looking for a way to do this for years, and here you handfeed it in such a way it is making everything quite easy! Thanks a lot, awesome video as always =D
Wow this is best ever seen tutorial on youtube 😁.. my install.esd file is 7.3 GB and iso i created in IMGBurn 8.1 GB but all the apps i installed on old system is on the new one. Great tutorial
Another easy way to do this is to create a .vhd file with diskpart and use that as the vm's hard disk. Then, after doing sysprep, you can shut down the virtual machine and attach the .vhd to your real system and capture the image straight to an install.wim. You can convert it to install.esd format to save more space using dism or wimlib if you need to.
This is the first time I have made a windows image like this, I am so tired of installing everything one by one, so I am following this tutorial but am going with your suggestion. thank you sire
Another comment: I wanted to thank you for this video because it spurred me to some solutions for real world issues. First, I have a laptop that has only 32GB of EMMC storage. It runs Windows 11 but even after some space saving tricks, I only have about 5GB of free space. But your video gave me an idea: I created a bootable SSD with Windows 11 on it, and now I boot that laptop from that SSD. So I now suddenly have 1TB storage space and it runs great! As a test I did the same thing with a 512GB Micro SD card just to see if it could be done because that system is capable of booting from a Micro SD card. That also works. It's not a speed demon, but it does work surprisingly well. There are some issues related to pagefile usage, so I suggest using a HDD or SSD. Basically anything seen as removable media and not as a fixed disk drive will have these issues. The PNY Pro Elite USB 3.2 Gen 2 flash drive works very well. First, it is FAST, and it is seen just like a full SSD including support for TRIM. Then I had another idea: My roommate keeps a Mini PC out by the TV. That way, if we ever need to lookup something on the web based upon something we were watching on TV we can do it right then and there. But it always annoys me that I don't have all my settings in place. For example, I like dark mode, he likes light. I use Edge, he uses Chrome, etc. Now I can simply boot from the Windows To Go SSD and I have my fully customized Windows and I don't mess with anything in his installation. You can even apply BitLocker with a password to unlock the drive so your data is safe if you lose the drive. It's been a few years since I experimented with Windows To Go, but watching your video suddenly made me realize how useful this is. Thanks for this, as well as all your other videos. They are always well thought out and very much appreciated!
You don't need Virtual Box or Windows PE to do this. You can just boot to the Command Prompt in Windows 10 or 11 on the master PC to do this and capture the image to your C Drive and then copy it over to your Windows install USB. I do it this way all the time.
Thank you for the video! Give up the flash drives! I use a 128GB SSD in a small external USB 3 case thus eliminating the need for compression. Boot/copy/install times improve as well.
@CyberCPU I'm sorry for dropping the question here. I could not get the "@" to work in a separate comment. The question: If rolling from machine to machine inatalls, how are the necessary aystem HW drivers manages within the install?
Follow all of your steps but trying to install windows from the bootable usb with my custom install.wim file, windows fails right after install every time. where do i find why it's failing? what am i doing wrong??
My god that could save me so much time! Could I do the debloating and other general system settings adjustments and install drivers during audit mode as well? Followed by the same imaging steps as shown here, and installing the resulting install, would that work to end up with a fresh install that's ready to go? (of course, provided I install it to the exact hardware for which I installed the drivers in audit mode).
Technically, you could add any drivers while in Audit mode, but since you are on a VM, the drivers for your system won't be appropriate for that VM. However, you can inject all your drivers after you have moved the install.wim to your Windows image. In fact, I do this all the time. That way, not only are my apps already installed, the drivers are also all there already. Note that to do this, you need to leave the install.wim as is and don't convert it to install.esd since the procedure only works with a .wim file, not a .esd file. The procedure is a bit long but I can provide it to you if desired. As you noted, if you use your actual hardware to create this image rather than a VM, then you can do this. Again, there are some extra steps involved to make this work because sysprep normally uninstalls the drivers. It does not delete them, but it does uninstall them.
This is nice, but what about just after doing a fresh installation of Windows & updates installing the programs. Clone it to an external drive, then clone that drive to other computers with a new license key. Of course, I would have separate drives for Intel & AMD systems and then run Windows updates again might have to install a few drivers.
Hi, Do you have an idea why my instalation stop at 10% and shows me information "Windows 11 instalation has failed" bcs i did step by step your tutorial and it's not working on my laptop?
Very useful although I hi k you may have lost some people at 26 minutes, where having created the WIM file, you suddenly say that you are not going to use it but will use a downloaded ISO, with no specific information being given as to why.
The ISO is using the same wim file. I explain why in the video. It's because virtualbox is a pain in the butt trying to make it boot off of a USB stick. The ISO and the USB drive are the same.
Are people that clueless? You can just make (for example) make a folder Inside the Windows install stick and put whatever .exe files (or whatever actually) and have them ready after windows is done installing. And before anyone comments, I'm adressing the people who just want to install some stuff and not automate the entire installation process. Edit: Why download the ISO from Rufus? You probably should download it from MS directly. Not to say that Rufus is untrusted of course, but the general rule of thumb usually is to download files from the Original source.
Why not building one with Windows AIK? Almost forgot, checking "generalize" is really important, is forcing Windows to disregard any driver you have installed and NOT have any bluescreens while setting up a new machine, by making Windows to detect everything for the "first" time when using the customized image. Cool, but I hope and assune we can use the method in your video on making the installation install automatically with the autounattend.xml file created by the tool you showed. And also, I assum it doesent HAVE to be a virtual machine to make the image with the installed software? If you don't mind it creating the same user every time you install from that image that is. This option will work if you are testing tings and want to have the oportunity to start all over if your installation gets damaged or something.
My question is, what about the window updates? Are they done in virtual box or done after the new install ( with the programs that are as added to the windows install usb?

#CyberCPU_Tech: Tried this method with the "Win11_24H2_English_x64.iso" file and it automatically puts BitLocker on the drive (no way to disable it that I saw). I had to manually add a drive letter in Hiren's BootCD PE (make the BitLocker drive "C") to get it to show up. Please try it and tell me if I made a mistake somewhere along the process, or if this is the norm, may want to add it to the instructions. Thank you! PS: Also replaced the "install.wim" in the ISO file and I get a fail during install after selecting what hard drive to install it on. I click the "Install" button and it fails at 10%.
I need help keeping signal RGB and the presets on the user's desktop after I setup in audit mode and run sysprep. I installed it to program files and created a shortcut. I don't want to go through this complicated process for 1 app. Is there an easy way I am missing or a install location I'm missing?
You have a lot of vids about it, but you shouldn’t do that, bc of one thing : you need time, a lot of time. First, you’ll need to have Windows ADK with the PE addon installed, so at least 4-5 GB of disk space necessary. After, you will need to know how to use the DISM commands and its cmdlets Last but not least, you’ll have to do a lot of tests and have all you apps prepared to be “installed”
@@ricseeds4835 You will learn new things for sure. I mean : you’ll use DISM a lot, use the command prompt, the Windows ADK with its PE addon, etc. You’ll also learn how to keep control of yourself, bc you’ll make a lot of mistakes, you will have to revert them and patch them, etc.
I do not like the windows changes, its almost 1sec slower startup and buffering when pulling up sites, this will be fixed, may go back to 10 with my disc.
@cybercpu tech : I've been having issues using the Rufus method to make the USB. I've downloaded the windows 11 ISO 23H2 ahead of time prior to attempting the Rufus portion. I was doing this from a previous video of yours. I used versions 4.2, 4.3, 4.5 of Rufus to attempt the USB creation of Windows 11 and had failed multiple times. I get the error : files can not be patched.
🤔If I were to also create virtual machines with an .iso file, could I just put that .iso file through NTLite to debloat it and bypass the Microsoft account requirements without hassle (because that's possible to do within NTLite)
Yes and after that install all the stuff you want from a seperate drive (or usb drive, don matter) and done. This video is so long, 90% of people won't bother with this or even understand everything, and he skips small details every time...
Is there a way to find out what version (language) of Windows i need? Ex: my install was installed a long ago but i don't remember if it was en-US or pt-BR even though i do use it on en-US as i always change my country language to English. Or can i just use the en-US .iso since that's the language i'm using?
I don’t think you need a special version of Windows….its just that the version you make the bootable USB with is the same ISO you create the virtual machine with.
@CyberCPU : how do you add a specific piece of software that may not be necessarily downloadable but has a license that’s assigned to you too an image.
For reasons beyond my abilities I cannot copy the new install.wim file from the client to a shared usb folder on the host (ie on my desktop computer). I've tried many different things I found on the Oracle VirtualBox site to no avail. If I look in the host drive folder the wim file is there on the VM. When I shut everything down there's no wim file in that folder when examined with FE on the host. Would VMPlayer be easier to use? Then I'll have to figure out how to set up a new VM with a Win ISO and the xml file I made successfully. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I'd buy you a beer even!
I followed this step by step and it keeps showing me the setup prompt when I get to the select version it's just blank and has a message of "windows could not display the images available for installation" HELP PLEASE

Did you find an answer? I’ve been trying to do this but every way I’ve tried, when I use the final image it doesn’t let me go past the menu selecting the windows 10 version, as in its blank. Theoretically it should work, i swapped out the xml file in the virtualbox files and didn’t skip unattended install, and it doesn’t matter what you put in the virtualbox username menu if you do it this way. I’m sure there’s a better way but I’m very new to this

I wish finally windows give us option to install on external ssd usb. For normal user too much hassle in my opinion, don't bother to do it that if you are not installing OS every day.
I had a problem with Anydesk and TeamViewer software having the same id number on all installs with this method, did you encounter something like that?
Followed your video all the way to the part where you start the virtual box (I am using win 11 Pro) getting the error supHardenedWinVerifyProcess failed with VERR_SUP_VP_NT_QI_VIRTUAL_MEMORY_ERROR (rc=-5637) any suggestions to get around this?

It can be done even easyer .... I install my System one time complete. Then I make an image with Macrium Reflect. Put this image on a Ventoy bootable USB-stick with Macrium ISO on it. And startup on an empty computer from that USB-stick. Copy that Macrium image to the new computer. After around 15 minutes I can boot the new system, which is asking to install its drivers. To be sure for the newest drivers I'm using iObit Driver Booster. ..... and thats it. A complete working system.
In your video you mentioned that you can debloat the Windows installation. BE CAREFUL doing this! You cannot delete or add items to the start menu, you cannot uninstall OR install any Microsoft Store apps, and you should not launch any of the programs that you are installing while you are still in audit mode. Note that some installers will ask if the program should be run after installation. Do not choose to do this! Doing any of these things will cause difficulties. There are ways to perform the debloat, but that is way beyond the scope of this video. At least three times that I counted you referenced double quote marks as "parenthesis". Be careful and follow what is being typed on the screen and not the narration.
Yeah, this video really has nothing to do with debloating. I always make that mistake by calling quotes parentheses. I have no idea why I do it. I do it constantly. 😅😂 Sorry. 🤷🏻♂️
The command is cut like that : /Capture-Image : Self-explanatory /ImageFile : Where you will put the .wim image /CaptureDir : The folder or disk where you want to capture the image /Compress : Just to reduce the image footprint
You can, but be careful on HW-specific drivers when you create the image The VM way is better when you have already your OS installed and you don’t want to redo everything

I need help keeping signal RGB and the presets on the user's desktop after I setup in audit mode and run sysprep. I installed it to program files and created a shortcut. I don't want to go through this complicated process for 1 app. Is there an easy way I am missing or a install location I'm missing?
Is there a video on making your own Windows PE iso with custom apps? Basically, making your own Hiren's CD
You have a lot of vids about it, but you shouldn’t do that, bc of one thing : you need time, a lot of time.
First, you’ll need to have Windows ADK with the PE addon installed, so at least 4-5 GB of disk space necessary.
After, you will need to know how to use the DISM commands and its cmdlets
Last but not least, you’ll have to do a lot of tests and have all you apps prepared to be “installed”
@@malodevic8895 Sounds like a fun project. I want to try it. I might learn a few things along the way :)
Hi, I want to know does Windows 11 LTSC also the same?
Hey Rich I was able to fix the problem by installing VMware workstation and then it works. I wonder if because I am using Win 11 24H2 on my system?
Can this be done using Hyper-V instead?
0:15 same for Windows 7 update
@@zackzeed thanks for telling me :)
@@mikefalderoff8236 Thanks
Will this work if I choose default themes and settings as well? So how can I apply settings for all users? :)
He doesn't specify a lot of mall details...
Do I need windows 10 already? I have windows 7. When I put windows 10 on another computer it erased everything on it.
2:34 same for Windows 8.1 to Windows Vista
@15:45 - you did not select "Generalize" ???
would this not give the admin problems later on??
no but make the image more specific for that pc
@@tcntad87 Why would you want that, when you can just image the drive?
@@fbifido2 huh? Generalize removes user/computer specific drivers and settings and procees, you dont want unnecessary stuff and things complicating next install
@@tcntad87 ok, i understand your reply comment, just to make sure, "This Win 11 USB will only be used for this computer"
@@tcntad87 "Generalize remove unique PC-specific information", it does not remove drivers, just the config.
What if you cannot use a VirtualBox, but have an extra system to use?
That will work.
@@CyberCPU Thank you, I will try it. I sent you an email earlier asking for help with other issues saying I love your videos, aand I do you have been a great help, Thank you
can you do this with answer files?
Did you find an answer? I’ve been trying to do this but every way I’ve tried, when I use the final image it doesn’t let me go past the menu selecting the windows 10 version, as in its blank.
Theoretically it should work, i swapped out the xml file in the virtualbox files and didn’t skip unattended install, and it doesn’t matter what you put in the virtualbox username menu if you do it this way. I’m sure there’s a better way but I’m very new to this
what does this mean Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) how do I fix this i have windows 11 home laptop i get this error when I plug in my cyberpower LX1500GU ups battery backup to the usb port on laptop and i tried different usb ports still the same problem how do i fix this problem ??
u got a bear free from me thank u
Check if don’t Microsoft requirement bypass still works
Do you have video how to install Windows on external usb SSD hmm . For now, I'm using Clonezilla to clone all my partition to an external SSD. I wish finally windows give us option to install on external ssd usb.
For normal user too much hassle in my opinion, don't bother to do it that if you are not installing OS every day.
Will this work with the unattended install .xml video you made earlier?
It can, yes, but installing apps could be tricky if they are not included or if you mess up accidentally
what is that "Nite" program to install all the programs/.
Ninite I think he means
if an item is installed as a single user sysprep will throw up an error so ninite or somthing similar must install for all users........
I had a problem with Anydesk and TeamViewer software having the same id number on all installs with this method, did you encounter something like that?
See my comment about NOT doing it this way!
2:57 same for VMware
Followed your video all the way to the part where you start the virtual box (I am using win 11 Pro) getting the error supHardenedWinVerifyProcess failed with VERR_SUP_VP_NT_QI_VIRTUAL_MEMORY_ERROR (rc=-5637) any suggestions to get around this?
Right Click on OS image . Settings->System->MotherBoard Increase the base memory
@@christianwarrior413 no matter what I increase it to I get the same error
Could you add your anti virus and back up to that
If they are some apps without a local license, yes. If there’s a key to enter, you’ll have to do that after the installation
@17:31 - Why can't you use the windows ISO to create the "install WIM/ESD" capture image ???
You still need to NTLite to customize
@@SametKaratas-db1xu Sorry, i did not seem him use NTLite, so, how does that answer the question?
@@SametKaratas-db1xu does NTLite some with the HirenCD ?
@@fbifido2 ntlite is a debloading custom Windows operating system while own operating system with save esd is possible, but, might be a lot of space. They recommended saving as wim, but, you can debloat yourself with ntlite if you like
It can be done even easyer ....
And does Macrium reflect cost anything to be fully used? Yes? No? If yes, then your comment here is unnecesary.
Not the beat idea. You can mess a lot of things up

Please make a video Of Free and powerful External Internet Download Manager for Windows. Love from Bangladesh. 🇧🇩
Sorry. 🤷🏻♂️
windows could not collect information for [OSImage] since the specified image file [install.wim] does not exist.
Redo the command (but be careful on the order)
That error can happen if you mess up on some of the subcommands
The command is cut like that :
/Capture-Image : Self-explanatory
/ImageFile : Where you will put the .wim image
/CaptureDir : The folder or disk where you want to capture the image
/Compress : Just to reduce the image footprint
You could skip the vm and do it from your real computer if you want
You can, but be careful on HW-specific drivers when you create the image
The VM way is better when you have already your OS installed and you don’t want to redo everything
@@malodevic8895 if you have at least a spare 64 gb flash drive you can create a windows to go drive with Rufus and once you get to the out of box experience do the things you need to do and you should be good

Anyone else getting an error that says, "Windows could not display the images available for installation" after using this method to create a USB installer? I'm using Windows 10, otherwise I'm following this tutorial to the letter. Help?
Have you found a fix by chance? Im getting the same thing. Im trying it on windows 10 too
17:51 it’s easy on VMware
AI took over and decided the unfocused look was an improvement. LOL.
Anyone have any ideas on instant Black Screen in UA-cam anyway with no cursor? Easy fix although I have had 3 since the second last Chrome Update. May have something to do with the various Tab Options.
This didn't work for me. I get errors reading then get errors writing and if I get through all that and it's on the stick in the sources folder I get an invalid image error. I will have to give up on this one. lol
For me it fails to install
3 months later: All your pre-installed programs have updates!
Then update them like normal...
4:20 mine is fiber optic internet so, my internet speed is fast (soon might automatically upgraded 40mb/s to 100mb/s)
this seems way too involved extra steps and some wierd konami codes in order to create a iso. this wont save me any time the amount of time i need to create this disk i could have just had a folder with all the installers in it installed.
It won’t save you time for the first installation, but after, you’ll see that you did save time
And if you only install Windows every now and again, it won't save you time. I install Windows on different computers daily, so this works great for me!
